Married Geek Couple Ep 24: HUNGRY GHOSTS (prose novel), Chapter One

This is the first chapter of our prose novel HUNGRY GHOSTS. I, Park, am the person reading it out loud. We'll get back to our Road Trip episodes again at some point, but for now, I learned from working with the first chapters of our other two books that these are too long to embed (if that's the proper term) into a page of our website... And I didn't want to divide it in half... so here it is as an episode of our podcast. It's our hope that hearing the first chapter read aloud will pique people's interest and make them want to read the whole book.https://www.amazon.com/Hungry-Ghosts-Park-Cooper-ebook/dp/B0D2FMF84ZSo, there's the link for the whole book. If you have Kindle Unlimited, it's already FREE for people who subscribe to that!Overview:Takeshi Ito wakes up with bandages over his eyes, because slashing at Takeshi’s eyes was the only way his opponents could stop the battle-maddened teenaged swordsman his comrades had nicknamed “the little god of death.” When the bandages come off, Takeshi can still see– but he keeps finding out strange things about the monk who saved him. Takeshi eventually realizes that the man who’d taken the name of Eisai when he tried to become a monk is really the great samurai Isogai Heidazaemon Taketsura, the wielder of the incredible sword Lightning-on-the-Water. But will even Taketsura be able to solve the problem of the oni curse that Takeshi’s accidentally stumbled into before someone gets killed during a fit of bloodlust– someone like Kiyoko, the cute orphan girl who joins the two swordsmen as they roam Japan looking for a way to cure Takeshi…?“In the prose novel HUNGRY GHOSTS, a spine-chilling tale of supernatural horror, a group of unsuspecting individuals becomes entangled in a sinister curse. Drawn together by their shared pasts and nightmarish encounters, they must confront their deepest fears and battle the insatiable hunger of malevolent spirits. As the boundaries between the living and the dead blur, these desperate souls will be tested to their limits in a gripping fight for their very lives. Will they conquer the ghosts that haunt them, or will they succumb to the all-consuming darkness? Find out in this hauntingly addictive thrill ride. The authors (Barb Lien Cooper & Park Cooper) crafted a thematically rich yet breezy read that entertains and inspires.”–Michael Stinson, writer, BITEMARK

Married Geek Couple Ep 23: THE TALKING CURE, Chapter One

This is the first chapter of our prose novel THE TALKING CURE. I, Park, am the person reading it out loud. We'll get back to our Road Trip episodes again at some point, but for now, I learned from working with the first chapter of SONG TO THE SIREN that these are too long to embed (if that's the proper term) into a page of our website... And I didn't want to divide it in half... so here it is as an episode of our podcast. (It starts after 10 seconds.)It's our hope that hearing the first chapter read aloud will pique people's interest and make them want to read the whole book.https://www.amazon.com/Talking-Cure-Magic-Through-Psychiatry-ebook/dp/B0D88FT5NWSo, there's the link for the whole book. If you have Kindle Unlimited, it's already FREE people who subscribe to that!Overview:* Zach Cutter claims he’s not really an antiques dealer as such, but that he’s really a supernatural investigator.* Zach claims he’s got repressed memories, missing at least a year of his life, probably more.* Zach claims he can do magic. Not stage magician magic– REAL magic.* Zach claims he’s got FEELINGS for his new psychiatrist, Dr. Cynthia Mann.* Zach claims a LOT of problematic things. But they’re ALL TRUE.After a disturbing case in New York made Dr. Cynthia Mann wonder if the supernatural might actually be real, she’s started her life and her practice all over again in Cleveland, where she meets a new patient, stranger than any she’s ever met before—and far more charming than anyone she’s ever met, too.During the progress Zach makes as Cynthia’s patient, he tells her stories about his past, and their relationship slowly edges from a doctor-patient one to a friendship—and Zach clearly wouldn’t mind if it became more.Together, Cynthia and Zach will have to find a way for him to get out of the trouble he stumbled into long ago…“THE DRESDEN FILES Meets THE PRINCE OF TIDES. Paranormal with just the right hint of romance.”–anonymous reader

Married Geek Couple Ep 22: SONG TO THE SIREN, Chapter One

This is the first chapter of our prose novel SONG TO THE SIREN. I, Park, am the person reading it out loud. We'll get back to our Road Trip episodes again at some point, but for now, I was thinking of just putting this audio file on our website-- but it's too long! And I didn't want to divide it in half! So here it is as an episode of our podcast. It's our hope that hearing the first chapter read aloud will pique people's interest and make them want to read the whole book.https://www.amazon.com/Song-Siren-Book-Barb-Lien-Cooper-ebook/dp/B0D7MYVTV9So, there's the link for the whole book. If you have Kindle Unlimited, it's already FREE people who subscribe to that!**********Overview:When two young documentary filmmakers start investigating the enigmatic death of the infamous Reed Sinclair, founder of the never-quite-made-it indie rock group The Big Carnival, they interview Reed’s former girlfriend, photographer Samantha (“Sam”) MacNamara– who tells them the story of herself, Reed, and a frightening entity named Belle.Belle may have simply been how Reed’s troubled mental state interpreted multiple tragedies and coincidences in his life… or she may have been a supernatural being. As the filmmakers begin to uncover the frightening truth, Sam must face the riddle of her relationship with Reed if she wants to step into the light, away from the specter of Belle and the shadow that was cast over Sam’s life.Praise for Song to the Siren:“As soon as I jumped into this book it was hard to put down. When I wasn’t reading it, I couldn’t wait to pick it back up again and often found myself thinking about Reed. The authors did a wonderful job of making this a gripping tale . . . fascinating, creepy, and heartbreaking all at once. Reed has earned a spot in my [list of] favorite characters. He is broken, flawed, but still so caring. I finished this book days ago and I still think about his character. That’s how much I love the guy. Amazing character development . . . The ending was hauntingly beautiful and moving . . . A book I will not soon forget.Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐”–IndieBookAddict.com

Married Geek Couple Episode 13: The Road Trip (Part 3)

Hi! Park here again, with more of our new podcast, MARRIED GEEK COUPLE! We're continuing with Barb and myself on a road trip– to visit my mother, for Thanksgiving. So we’re talking in the car, on the highway, so yes, there will be some road noise– be warned! But I also think it’s really not too bad, and other people agree with me, because whichever one of us is talking for more than a couple of seconds is holding the phone right in front of us, so it’s not like you can’t tell what’s being said clearly, really. Each short episode is edited, of course, but it’s just us, again, casually (but intensely) talking about stuff we like! The goal is to mostly be for people who want to listen to a happy, positive, married geeky couple talking (in their car) about things that make them happy– perhaps while you do chores? kitchen stuff? folding laundry? other?  THIS episode features us talking about music: Alex Chilton, The Boxtops, and rockabilly...
