Michelle Explains Anime, Poorly

Lain tries to stop god from existing.  The Knights might be related to the Knights Templar, but that doesn't matter anymore.  Three grown men confess their love to Lain, and each is progressively weirder.  A fake family and fake friends, yes, it was all just a lie, Lain: [email protected]

We talk about Roswell, conspiracies, and the internet. Lots of grainy footage. I'm pretty sure this all boils down to aliens, at this point. Well, either that or black mold.  Lain confronts Taro, and they both shove things in each other's mouths. Lain remembers being placed with her "parents".  The truth has power for the very reason that it is the truth, Lain: [email protected]

"Lain" spreads vicious rumors about Alice and a teacher, possibly sets part of the school on fire, and is definitely having an identity crisis.  Are all Lains actually Lain? Is Lain a god?  I'm the only me, right Navi?: [email protected]

So we're just not going to address the explosion, then?!  Lain gets to chat with the guys with the weird goggles, and I gush over the tall guy's blue eyes for some reason.  The Knights are getting serious.  Tell me, Iwakurwa Lain, are you and the Lain in the Wired in reality one and the same person?: [email protected]

Lain is in the sky, and people are deeply unnerved for obvious reasons.  Kids may or may not be attempting to worship her or give her their psychic energy.  The professor won't answer one simple question, he'd rather die.  No, it's not a good idea to flood your room!  It was just the cooling system for your room, Lain: [email protected]

Lain's talking to inanimate objects about the internet and prophecies.  Mika's probably supposed to fulfill one of those prophecies, at least according to the bathroom door, a napkin, and some coffee she spilled.   eveyonegetsconnectedeveryonegetsconnected: [email protected]

Lain's trying to find out what's going on with all the recent suicides while kids play a game of tag.  Everyone's worried because Lain has changed, and they're telling her that a lot.  The wired has voicemail for some reason.  I'll be completely metamorphosed, Dad: [email protected]   

Lain gets questioned by the cops, but stays quiet! No one even knows she got in any trouble since her family just disappeared for the night. Mika meets two men with weird goggles that may or may not exist.Lain gets a chip or something like that and tries to install it into her Navi.Welcome home, oneechan!: [email protected]

Lain gets a new Navi. Now she can talk to her dead friend more, yay!  She also gets peer pressured into going to a club or a rave or something that middle schoolers probably shouldn't be allowed to go to.   We learn about Accela.  Lain sees something that no one should have to.   No matter where you are, everyone is always connected: [email protected]

I talk a little about the production and how Lain was supposed to radically change art.  A girl, who desperately needs glasses, gets an email from a dead classmate that's totally not a scam (the email even said so)!  You'll understand soon. Everyone will: [email protected]  

Uenoyama has a little internal breakdown.  Haruki and Kaji bless the relationship. Haruki is severely lonely and I'm worried about him.  Mafuyu wants to write a new song, but I don't know what it's going to be about!  See you on 4/23 when we start Serial Experiments Lain!  IT'S MUTUAL: [email protected]

Uenoyama and co. deal with the fallout from their show. And by that I mean they're happy, there's no fallout at all.  The band gets a new name. It's not Salted Tongue, unfortunately, but at least it's not Geavens.  Maybe Uenoyama and Mafuyu go on a date or something.  I like you, Uenoyama-kun: [email protected]  

I basically just rant about guitar strings, and now you hate me (sorry).   Mafuyu sings his song, and Uenoyama needs a lesson in consent.  When a string breaks, you just have to fix it!: [email protected]   

Time is running out to get your shit together for the show, Mafuyu. Has Mafuyu finished writing lyrics? Is anyone even gonna ask him if he has??  I rant about how great Take-chan is (he's really great).  Kashima Hiiragi wants to be forgiven. Uenoyama's feelings for Mafuyu are freaking him out and could destroy the band, I guess. Uenoyama touches Mafuyu's hands while he's asleep, and that's not weird at all.Uenoyama confesses his feelings to Kaji because Kaji is the best.  The song still has no lyrics.  Hey, it's green, Haruki-san: [email protected]   

Uenoyama struggles to figure out his feelings for Mafuyu. It's weird because he's the only one who doesn't know.  Mafuyu walks for a very long time and then confides something in Uenoyama that ends up really upsetting him.  If that person suddenly disappeared, what would you say?: [email protected]

Kaji is like non-stop flirting with Haruki, and it's really stressing him out!  Ueonoyama finishes the song, but we don't get to hear it : (  Kasai spreads rumors about Mafuyu.  I wonder if Sato-kun likes you, Uenoyama: [email protected]

We see almost a full minute montage of band practice, and I get annoyed about it. What did Haruki tell Mafuyu about the drink vending machine, damn it!  Uenoyama takes Mafuyu to look for an effect pedal, and they find a cute blue one.  There were rumors about Mafuyu in middle school.  That's what overdrive sounds like, Mafuyu (sorry that was the best I could do for this one): [email protected]  

What do you mean, Mafuyu said no?!  Uenoyama gets bad (relationship) advice from the internet.  We find out a little more about where Mafuyu's guitar came from.  I probably start crying (sorry).  How could you say something like that with such a pained expression on your face, Mafuyu: [email protected]

Uenoyama starts to teach Mafuyu how to play guitar. I explain how to play an A major chord and get kinda angry about it.  ES-330's cost like $3500, and Mafuyu should really be using a hard case.  Mafuyu can sing, but it's too bad he doesn't sound like Corey Taylor or something.  Well, aren't you a good boy, Uenoyama: [email protected]

I talk briefly about the history of BL, Given's anime staff, and Natsuki Kizu. We meet a boy with trauma connected to a guitar, and the boy who he's desperately trying to get to teach him how to play that guitar.  I even play the guitar a little (sorry). But you're cooler, Uenoyama-kun: [email protected]

All sorts of bad things happen to Nikaido, and Caiman almost goes to Hell (literally).   I learn to hate the Sorcerer world, their stupid laws, and the Devils in general.  I'm really pissed off about it for some reason.  He's not a pie, Caiman!: [email protected]

We find out how Shin and Noi met and became partners!  Fukuyama has a pretty cool power and uses it in a very upsetting way.  Ebisu and Garugaru eat food off the ground, and Nikaido's in major trouble.  Don't eat things you just find lying on the ground, you'll get diarrhea, Ebisu: [email protected]

Caiman almost starves to death in the sorcerer world, but then he gets a job!  We learn all about Blue Night.  Boing!: [email protected]

En needs to learn to control his anger, but at least Kikurage is ok (I love him).   We get a look at Shin's past, and it's not very nice.A big tonal shift at the end of the episode throws me off guard and makes me empathize with everyone in the Hole.  Fetch, Johnson!: [email protected]  

Caiman and Nikaido go to the world of the sorcerers and kill people there, yay?! Shin and Noi are also busy killing people.  The man in the mouth gets a name and a body, but he's kind of annoying now that he's alive.  Your bully sandwich is ready, Fujita: [email protected]  

We meet a sorcerer who cooks things, which is as cool or maybe significantly cooler than it sounds.  Shin and Noi find out more about the guy in Caiman's mouth.  En gets an adorable pet and names it after a type of mushroom that I like.  There's a door made of flesh.  Thanks for being my friend, Nikaido: [email protected]  

Happy Halloween, there's zombies in the Hole!  Nikaido and Caiman face off against Shin and Noi, and there is A LOT of blood and carnage.  The doc conducts a really strange autopsy, and brooms are motorcycles.  Let's dissect it and see what's in there, Caiman: [email protected]  

Formal introductions to Shin and Noi, who seem to really like killing people, yay!  A dinner party where no one listens to En at all, and they try to feed him calf's liver.     Caiman and Nikaido go to a really cool hotel, and Nikaido also kills some guys. I talk a little about the anime production, the manga, and Q Hayashida.  We start off with someone's head getting chomped on by a giant lizard, and it only gets weirder from there.Who's the guy in the mouth? Why do sorcerers wear masks? How can The Hungry Bug operate with so many health code violations?  What we'll learn in Ep. 2 is still hidden in chaos, and that is Dorohedoro!  So, what'd the guy inside say?: [email protected]

Everyone's probably dead and Shin is having a mental breakdown in a field of red spider lilies.  Maybe there's someone out there who can still save him or, at least, get him to want to save himself.  Nobody left you behind, Shin: [email protected]  

Comrades are whittled down dramatically as the final battle with Kiri looms.  Then they also fight the battle, hooray. Someone's helping out, but we're not sure who.  Kiri has a lot to say, but no one can hear anything other than a scream.  Pierce me with a hail of bullets, rip my body apart, and I can still fight: [email protected]

It's finally time for the gang to confront Shin about his reckless behavior. They don't quite understand his reasons, so he's forced to explain.   It's worse than they'd feared.  Also, a Morpho butterfly is consumed by ants, except for its head.  You didn't survive all that just to kill your brother, did you Shin?: [email protected]  

The gang battles The Morpho... well, sort of? Kiri has a conversation with a fellow Legion, and we learn about their plans. Shin's breakdown intensifies, and Frederica does something really stupid.  I get annoyed because I can't tell what's going on, but don't worry, it's probably my fault somehow, not the production falling apart.  You carry them all, Shin: [email protected]

Ernst is not pleased that Spearhead has been chosen for the suicide mission, and neither is Frederica.I forget that prejudice is real for a few minutes, and also can't pronounce Nachzehrer.Do you want to end up the same way, Shin?!: [email protected]

We finally find out what was in that letter, and it's not good.  Spearhead becomes Spearhead again : (  It's ok though, cos they have no family, so no one will be sad when they die : )  You killed him, right Shin?: [email protected]

Shin gets a note that destroys him for some reason, and everyone in the Federacy attempts to fight off a large-scale Legion offensive.  We finally see what's been going on in San Magnolia, and I say I'm proud of Lena at least three times (possibly more, I wasn't actually counting).  It's time for you to be crushed, Lena: [email protected]

We have a relatively calm episode, which is an ok change after the straight-up carnage of the last one. However, Shin's emotional state may be deteriorating, and the Federacy is vastly underestimating how dangerous the upcoming attack will be. That's fine though, cos Shin and Raiden don't think it's a good idea to tell them the reason why Shin knows they're wrong.  Also, I mispronouce Grethe's name so many times that I couldn't even fix it without redoing the episode (sorry, Grethe).  But... are you doing ok, Shin?: [email protected]

The Federacy seems pretty nice, they even made them a monument and everything. However, there's still all this weird racism going on, and they suck at fighting the Legion a lot.Someone probably dies, and it's so gory that I was impressed.  Shin doesn't seem like he's in the best place mentally.  Why didn't you save him, Shin: [email protected]  

The Spearhead gang adjusts to their new life without fighting and a lot less racism. Nobody's really happy about it, though.  Frederica is 10 and generally annoying.  Shin has a nightmare at the library (not a nice dream).    I'm dead. I still want to go home, Shin: [email protected]

We start over from zero with Lena and a new group of processors. Nothing and everything has changed.  What happens to Spearhead, though? Nothing? Where is Shin's head? Still with his body or no?  We meet some fun new characters (if you're into annoying kids, that is).  Is it yours, Shin?: [email protected]

Spearhead is low on food, fuel, and ammo. They spend the night at an abandoned school.  Kurena eats her last after dinner dessert.  Lena visits the barracks.  If, one day, you make it to our final destination, would you please leave flowers?: [email protected]

Spearhead Squadron has some quiet time in the wilderness, but Shin is acting very weird, and Raiden's noticed.The gang visits the most depressing zoo imaginable.  We see the world from Fido's perspective.  Are you going to the other side of the water alone, Shin?: [email protected]
