Greens respond to government pausing of social media bill
The government has confirmed legislation aiming to ban under-16s from social media is now on hold. Labour agreed to support National's proposal for a ban - but the Greens and ACT were opposed to the idea. Green MP and youth spokesperson Tamatha Paul spoke to Guyon Espiner.

Kiwis turning to Afterpay for fuel and basics
In the 12 months ended December 2025, Afterpay New Zealand reported buy now pay later revenue of $119.99 million, up from $102.96 million the year before. For some New Zealanders that includes using Afterpay to buy essential goods like petrol. Poihaere Whare is a Waikato mother of four and a nursing student. She's also the co-chair of the New Zealand Nurses Organisation's National Student Unit. Whare spoke to Guyon Espiner.

New Zealand had a net migration gain of about 24,200 in the last year, up from a net gain of 14,000 the previous year, according to numbers released by Stats NZ today.
