You're Not Beyond Help: Whole Person Change After Addiction & Homelessness — Jackie & Jeff
In this episode, I sit down with Jackie and Jeff from the Other Side Academy and Village, a nonprofit helping people coming out of incarceration, homelessness, or addiction through a two and a half year program focused on whole person behavioral change. Jackie shares 25 years of on and off homelessness, introduced to drugs young, losing her daughter, and finding relief when arrested because she'd have a bed and meals. Jeff talks about living in canyons for six years after getting stabbed, calling cops on himself to go to jail, and writing a letter to the Academy. They explain real community means people holding you up while also expecting your best, not accepting you as lesser. They discuss misconceptions like homeless people don't want help or are dangerous. Both are now coaches helping others discover who they want to become. The Academy is self-sustaining through Other Side Moving, thrift stores, and donuts.Brynne’s Social:Facebook: @Brynne Erickson - my public pagehttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61573316550355Instagram: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.instagram.com/brynne_erickson/Threads: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.threads.com/@brynne_erickson?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==The Other Side Academy and VillageDonate - https://www.theothersideacademy.com/donatehttps://theothersidevillage.com/donate-now/More information - https://www.theothersideacademy.com/https://theothersidevillage.com/Chapters00:00 Introduction to the Other Side Academy and Village04:34 Understanding Real Community10:34 The Journey to Acceptance and Change16:30 Personal Stories of Transformation24:12 The Impact of Upbringing on Life Choices30:08 Reflections on Drug Use and Recovery33:52 Embracing Mistakes and Unlearning Behaviors37:24 Focusing on the Present and Building Foundations39:19 Roles and Responsibilities in the Community39:40 Common Misconceptions About Homelessness42:11 Understanding Fear and Misunderstanding44:54 The Balance of Acknowledging and Embracing Brokenness46:17 Reframing Regrets and Learning from the Past49:39 Redefining Purpose and Self-Discovery55:35 The Goodness of People and the Power of Change57:17 The Importance of Love and Compassion59:27 Social Enterprises and Community Outreach

Feelings Are Information, Not Identity: Processing Emotions Without Shame
In this mini episode, I talk about how feelings are just information. Having a hard day doesn't mean you're failing. Crying in your car doesn't mean you're falling apart. Feeling angry, sad, or overwhelmed does not mean something has gone wrong. It means you're alive and paying attention. I share a story from my guest Mindy Cope who got a spider bite that made her foot swell up purple and black. Instead of spiraling, she wrote a poem about the spider and found gratitude in the colors. Her husband walked in and offered to help beautifully. What she thought was happening to her was actually happening for her. Negative thoughts and feelings are like an alarm bell signaling you've started believing something untrue about yourself. The alarm is a gift from your inner knowing saying let's get curious. Your affirmation: I can feel this and still be okay. My feelings are information, not my identity.Brynne’s Social:Facebook: @Brynne Erickson - my public pagehttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61573316550355Instagram: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.instagram.com/brynne_erickson/Threads: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.threads.com/@brynne_erickson?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==Chapters00:00 Understanding Feelings as Information03:46 Reframing Negative Emotions05:00 Embracing the Complexity of Emotions

You Are Enough Right Now: Faith, Perfection & The Spark of Christ Within — Jennifer Roskelly
In this episode, I sit down with my friend Jennifer Roskelly for a deep conversation about faith, scripture, and the spark of Christ within each of us. Jennifer shares her journey from age 15 asking "If Joseph Smith can see God face to face, why can't I?" to discovering profound truths in literal scripture interpretation. She explains how perfection actually means complete or whole, not flawless, referencing how God called Job a perfect servant. We discuss the biological spark of light when sperm meets egg, how the heart is the first organ formed and grows the brain, and Jennifer's belief that our bodies can change through faith to endure Christ's presence. She shares her one rule for truth: if it excludes anyone, it's not of Christ. Her message to the world: you are worthy, you are enough, let the light inside yourself define who you are.Brynne’s Social:Facebook: @Brynne Erickson - my public pagehttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61573316550355Instagram: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.instagram.com/brynne_erickson/Threads: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.threads.com/@brynne_erickson?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==Jennifer's Resources:The Parables of Jesus - https://www.amazon.com/s?k=parables+of+jesusLost Gospels of Thomas - https://www.amazon.com/s?k=lost+gospels+of+thomasPistis Sophia - https://www.amazon.com/s?k=pistis+sophiaThe Doctrine of Christ - https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/doctrine-and-covenants-student-manualThe Lost Gospels of Mary Magdalene - https://www.amazon.com/s?k=lost+gospels+mary+magdaleneChapters00:00 Introduction and Friendship Origins03:58 Jennifer's Spiritual Upbringing06:47 Questions and Doubts in Faith09:56 Seeking Enlightenment and Connection12:50 The Role of Faith and Personal Growth15:39 Understanding the Nature of Christ19:00 The Concept of Earning Salvation22:02 The Journey of Self-Discovery24:49 The Future of Humanity and Faith27:56 Finding Truth in Scriptures31:33 Understanding Worth and Value in Faith32:58 The Concept of Life and Death34:55 The Role of Dreams and Spiritual Insights37:03 The Spark of Christ Within Us40:08 Abraham's Test and Symbolism of Faith42:33 The Science of Life and Spirituality44:58 Becoming Like Christ51:49 Judgment, Mercy, and Faith54:35 Worship and Community56:22 The Message of Worthiness

Giving Biblical Women Voices: Inner Authority, Wholeness & Divine Feminine — Kristi Garcia
In this episode, I sit down with my friend Kristi Garcia to talk about her poetry book Women Who Knew, which gives voices to biblical women telling their own stories. Kristi shares how the book poured out of her in three months lying in bed next to her toddler, starting with a poem called "Mary's Response" to the song "Mary Did You Know?" She reads Sarah's Heartache about infertility and waiting. We discuss how God meets women where they are (in the kitchen, at the well, rocking babies) versus calling men to mountaintops, and how women's bodies were designed on purpose with heightened senses to meet God through physical presence. Kristi introduces her concept of inner authority and higher authority being the same power in two different channels, like a lighthouse's upper and lower lights. She's writing a new book called Feminine Discipleship about reclaiming wholeness without losing yourself to find God.Brynne’s Social:Facebook: @Brynne Erickson - my public pagehttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61573316550355Instagram: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.instagram.com/brynne_erickson/Threads: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.threads.com/@brynne_erickson?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==Kristi’s References: Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/kristigarcia.speaks/Join her poem of the month club, newsletter and buy her book “Women Who Knew,” via her link on Instagram. 📕Women Who Knew - https://www.amazon.com/Women-Who-Knew-faithful-fearless/dp/B0FLLHC2CB Key TopicsFeminine discipleship and biblical womenThe power of poetry in spiritual growthInner authority and trusting oneself in faithChapters00:00 Introduction to Kristi Garcia04:08 Balancing Life and Priorities07:06 Empowering Women Through Poetry10:19 Exploring the Theme of Infertility13:01 The Heroine's Journey15:52 The Power of Female Experience19:00 Writing Process and Inspiration22:00 Lessons from Women in Scripture25:02 Reclaiming Female Spirituality27:58 Conclusion and Final Thoughts32:23 Exploring Faith and Divine Communication34:58 The Journey of Self-Trust37:49 Feminine Discipleship and Inner Authority42:43 Reclaiming Wholeness in Faith48:34 Navigating Organized Religion and Personal Beliefs55:51 Understanding God’s Love and Authority

Trusting Myself Over Outside Voices: General Conference, the CES Letter & Finding My Beliefs - A Personal Reflection
In this episode recorded on Easter Sunday during general conference, I share why I didn't actively watch. I didn't want to do mental gymnastics sifting through what resonated versus what didn't. I talk about my aunt's advice to focus on who she wants to be rather than combating others' beliefs. I share how I get most frustrated when I disagree with something but haven't formulated what I do believe yet. I reread the CES letter (anti-Mormon literature) and it didn't ruffle my feathers this time like it did before when doubt felt debilitating. What I thought was Satan was actually my brain trying to protect me from uncertainty. I'm questioning whether we're acted upon by external forces or if the power is already within us, believing in universal collective energy. I encourage you to focus on what you do want to believe rather than proving what you don't.Brynne’s Social:Facebook: @Brynne Erickson - my public pagehttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61573316550355Instagram: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.instagram.com/brynne_erickson/Threads: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.threads.com/@brynne_erickson?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==Chapters00:00 Reflections on Easter and General Conference03:14 Navigating Personal Beliefs and External Influences05:58 Understanding Emotions and Their Role09:10 Revisiting Doubts and Building Confidence11:59 The Power of Collective Energy and Attraction14:55 Embracing the Journey of Self-Discovery

From Punishment to Self-Love: Mindset, Motivation & Postpartum Fitness — Heather Campbell
In this episode, I sit down with my friend Heather Campbell to talk about her journey with health and fitness. Heather shares how she shifted from punishing herself to approaching fitness through self-love instead. We discuss how motivation comes and goes but discipline is what builds consistency, why sustainable weight loss is slow (despite what the fitness industry wants you to believe), and how 80% of disease comes from unhealthy habits. Heather explains her nutrition guide and her six-week Elevate program with at-home workouts, meal plans, and a supportive community. We talk about giving yourself grace during different life phases, learning that calorie deficit doesn't mean starving yourself, and how showing up for yourself (even if it's just 50% some days) compounds over time. Heather emphasizes that taking care of yourself through nutrition and exercise is the highest form of self-respect.Brynne’s Social:Facebook: @Brynne Erickson - my public pagehttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61573316550355Instagram: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.instagram.com/brynne_erickson/Threads: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.threads.com/@brynne_erickson?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==Heather Campbell: Instagram: @wildmoonfitnesshttps://www.instagram.com/wildmoonfitness/✨Elevate Program and other resourceshttps://stan.store/wildmoonfitness1?utm_source=ig&utm_medium=social&utm_content=link_in_bio&fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQMMjU2MjgxMDQwNTU4AAGnMtfExOC6CXn4kA28wyItEnyle1uA5dA6FTTUoQf2vnMIzoKwoXP2Hjttyyw_aem_UMX5dRXiBK848AnBtj_HpAChapters00:00 Introduction and Friendship02:09 Heather's Journey into Health and Fitness04:55 Body Image and Diet Culture06:19 Mindset Shift: From Punishment to Self-Love08:27 Overcoming Societal Pressures11:18 The Importance of Mindset in Fitness12:36 The Slow Journey to Sustainable Health14:03 Focusing on Feelings Over Numbers15:29 Finding Balance in Nutrition17:52 Motivation vs. Discipline21:19 The Role of Willpower in Health24:02 The Ripple Effect of Healthy Habits26:46 The Impact of Nutrition on Mental Health29:47 Small Changes, Big Differences in Nutrition31:03 Understanding Caloric Needs and Nutrition Basics33:27 The Journey of Self-Care and Body Acceptance35:43 Introducing the Elevate Program40:34 Creating a Supportive Community for Moms42:58 Finding Balance in Fitness and Motherhood

I Stopped Folding My Kids' Laundry on Purpose & It's Been Liberating — A Mom Confession
In this episode, I share how I intentionally stopped folding my kids' laundry and it's been liberating. I was tired of folding everything perfectly only to have them pull out multiple shirts, leave them on the floor, and create piles I couldn't tell were clean or dirty. So I stopped. Now I taught my boys to sort their own clothes and shove them in drawers. Yes, there are wrinkles. No, I don't care. And guess what? The wrinkles disappear throughout the day anyway. For my baby, I literally keep a clean laundry basket and a dirty laundry basket side by side and pick out his clothes each day. It's been amazing. I remember seeing a mom get shamed online for doing a bin system, and I just think that's so unnecessary. If you need permission to let something go and simplify your life, here it is. Faith Expansion vs Faith Crisis: Finding Truth in Mormonism and Beyond — Cami Sanders
In this episode, I have a deep conversation with Cami Sanders about our faith journeys, truth, and navigating doubt. Cami shares how she's never felt like she was in a "faith crisis" but rather a "faith expansion," constantly seeking truth from multiple sources while keeping her roots in Mormonism. She introduces the fixed foot and searching foot metaphor, where you plant your foot in the doctrine with the deepest roots and then expand to gather truth from everywhere else.We talk about how God has spoken to all people throughout history, not just a tiny percentage in the LDS church. Cami shares her practice of lectio divina for studying scripture, a four-step process of reading, meditating, wrestling with God, and letting it change you. She talks honestly about reconciling hard church history like Joseph Smith's polygamy and Brigham Young's racist policies.Cami shares a powerful dream she had six years ago about a giant black cube with openings representing different religions and philosophies. She saw Mormonism as the largest window for her, but a man in a suit was blocking it. A woman's voice said "He needs to move. You need to move him," leading her to get a tattoo of a square with a circle inside, representing where earth and heaven meet. We discuss how to separate the institutional church from personal spirituality, and how love is the ultimate truth that overlaps in every religion and philosophy.Brynne’s Social:Facebook: @Brynne Erickson - my public pagehttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61573316550355Instagram: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.instagram.com/brynne_erickson/Threads: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.threads.com/@brynne_erickson?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==Chapters00:00 Exploring Faith and Spirituality03:49 The Journey of Faith Expansion06:56 Childhood Influences and Early Beliefs09:57 Diverse Experiences in Religion12:51 Truth and Its Many Facets15:50 The Nature of Truth and Knowledge18:46 Understanding Love and Charity21:41 Navigating Doubt and Certainty24:41 The Role of Scripture in Personal Growth27:38 Sources of Truth and Historical Context30:25 Revisiting Church History and Personal Beliefs36:25 Belief and Truth in Religion38:51 Agency and Personal Connection41:00 The Nature of Religion and Learning43:14 Exploring Racial Inequality in Faith46:27 The Role of Prophets and Leadership48:44 Empathy and Understanding in Spirituality50:53 A Transformative Dream Experience01:00:15 Navigating Systemic and Spiritual Aspects of Faith

What Happens When You Start a Faith Podcast While Questioning Everything: One Year of Middle Ground
In this episode, I'm celebrating one year of the Middle Ground podcast and sharing why I started it. The Scale Hasn't Moved in 8 Months and I've Never Felt Better — Why I Stopped Chasing a Number
In this episode I share my journey of personal growth and self-improvement over the past eight months, focusing on my approach to movement and fitness. Rather than sticking to traditional New Year's resolutions, I emphasize the importance of setting achievable goals that align with my lifestyle. I also discuss my commitment to reaching 10,000 steps a day and how I've learned to listen to my body, balancing fun activities with more intense workouts. I reflect on my past experiences with fitness, including running a half marathon, and how those experiences shape my current mindset towards movement and health.I also dive into my evolving relationship with food, particularly sugar (it's definitely an addiction). I share my desire to enjoy treats without obsessing over them, aiming for a healthier balance. In this solo episode I give you full permission to let go of any pressure you are feeling to have it all figured out by January 1st. I share why I personally prefer to flow with the seasons rather than the calendar, why I do my real goal setting in the spring, and what I have learned about honoring my energy rather than pushing through it. How to Actually Enjoy the Holidays When Your Family Doesn't Do Things the Way You Want
In this solo episode I share some thoughts two days before Christmas on how to actually enjoy the holiday season when you cannot control what anyone else does, says, thinks, or feels. I talk about buying my own presents and why I think that is genuinely the most empowering move, how my family is evolving our traditions as everyone gets married and grows up, and why holding our traditions too tightly can actually cost us the people we love most. This one is a quick and honest reminder that the holidays are about your people and everything else is just a means of being together.TakeawaysYou can't control what people think or feel. The best person to meet your expectations is yourself.Consider the true purpose behind giving gifts.Traditions should evolve with family dynamics. It's important to focus on the people, not just the traditions.Embrace change in family traditions as families grow.Connection is more important than material gifts. You can opt out of traditions that don't resonate with you.Show up in love, regardless of others' opinions.Your thoughts shape your feelings and experiences.Chapters00:00 Embracing the Holiday Spirit03:15 The True Meaning of Giving05:53 Evolving Traditions and Family Dynamics09:08 Focusing on Connection Over Gifts

What If Truth Isn't What You Were Taught — And That's Actually Okay? - A Personal Reflection
In this solo episode I share a lot of thoughts swirling around after seeing Wicked and somehow also watching K-pop Demon Hunters, two very different movies with a surprisingly similar message. I talk about the concept of truth and why I find it so hard to use that word in the context of religion anymore, what it was like when my perspective on the church started shifting and my husband and I found ourselves not on the same page, and why I think being broken and whole at the same time is not a contradiction but actually the whole point. Is God Fair? Rethinking Equality, Tithing, Scripture & Universal Spiritual Laws and Mormonism/LDS
In this solo episode, I share recent thoughts on fairness versus equality, using a water bottle analogy my three-year-old inspired. Just like different water bottles serve different purposes, we're all human but vastly different in our needs and purposes. I discuss why equality (giving everyone the same thing) isn't always fair, and how fairness means giving what's actually needed. I talk about my evolving view of tithing—seeing it less as a mandatory 10% and more as a universal spiritual law of giving and receiving available to everyone, regardless of religion. It's about contributing to humanity, not a specific number. Finally, I share two scripture resources I'm loving: the Book of Mormon Storybook and God's Stories as Told by God's Children. I read the Bible introduction explaining how it's weird because it's ancient with many storytellers, and how our voices matter in continuing that conversation. I'm learning to connect with scripture in new, more personal ways without taking everything so literally.Takeaways:Fairness is about giving what is needed, not just equal treatment.Individual needs vary, and support should be tailored accordingly.Tithing is more about contributing to humanity than a strict percentage. The Bible contains many voices and should be interpreted personally.Scriptures can provide valuable lessons without being taken literally. We should focus on the joy and abundance in our lives.Teaching children about fairness can help them understand individuality.Religious principles should guide us, not limit us.Finding evidence of joy and peace is essential for personal growth.Everyone has the agency to choose their path in life.Brynne’s Social:Facebook: @Brynne Erickson - my public pagehttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61573316550355Instagram: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.instagram.com/brynne_erickson/Threads: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.threads.com/@brynne_erickson?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==Referenced in This Episode:📕 "God's Stories as told by God's Children - Illustrated Bible Story Book for Children" by The Bible for Normal PeopleBuy it on AMAZON - https://www.amazon.com/Gods-Stories-told-Children-Illustrated/dp/1964423007📕 "The Book of Mormon Storybook" by Josh and Sarah SabeyBuy NOW - https://forlittlesaints.com/shop/🎧Faith Matter Podcast "Why We Can't Cherry- pick the Bible" with Dan McClellanListen on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hp5UErrEozIApple Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/163-why-we-cant-cherry-pick-the-bible-a/id1307757928?i=1000610216524Chapters:00:00 Introduction to Fairness and Equality12:13 The Principle of Tithing20:02 Exploring a New Version of the Bible

Danny & Kelsie Froerer - From LDS to Mixed-Faith Marriage: Leaving Mormonism, Reclaiming Self-Worth & Choosing Curiosity Over Judgment
HEADS UP: This conversation does mention sex and pornography. In this episode, I sit down with Danny and Kelsey to hear their journey from active LDS members to stepping away from the church together. Danny shares how years of pornography-related shame from bishops changed when one compassionate bishop told him "if only perfect people could go to the temple, the temples would be empty" and invited him to the temple instead of withholding it. That moment of love instead of shame cracked open years of buried pain and started his faith transition. Kelsey talks about how moving to Colorado saved their marriage by getting away from family voices telling her to divorce Danny, and how she eventually started her own faith journey after constantly receiving pity instead of understanding from church members. They discuss how they're raising their kids with curiosity instead of dictating beliefs, holding onto Jesus's teachings of compassion while letting go of the institution, and wishing everyone would seek to understand others rather than judge them.Brynne’s Social:Facebook: @Brynne Erickson - my public pagehttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61573316550355Instagram: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.instagram.com/brynne_erickson/Threads: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.threads.com/@brynne_erickson?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==Takeaways:Danny's experience in the bishopric highlighted the need for compassion over shame. They emphasize the importance of curiosity and understanding in relationships. Both Danny and Kelsie aim to raise their children with open discussions about faith. In this episode, I interview my longtime friend Alex and his husband Parker, a married gay couple navigating life after Mormonism. Alex went on a mission, got sick, went through correction therapy, and came home thinking he was "healed." Parker attended BYU while they secretly dated for four years before publicly coming out when they got engaged. We talk about their different experiences growing up Mormon, how they define identity versus learned behavior, and how they've reframed their relationship with God from black-and-white rules to something much more loving, compassionate, and hippie-ish.They share their journey toward having a baby through gestational surrogacy, including the heartbreak of their first miscarriage and the joy of their baby boy coming in September. We discuss what makes a "traditional family" and why love is really all that matters. Parker emphasizes that if a decision brings you happiness and you're being loving and kind, that's what God wants. Alex talks about learning to love his identity after years of trying to change it. Their final advice: live and let live, stop being critical, and let people make their own decisions even if you don't agree.Brynne's Social:Facebook: @Brynne Erickson - my public pagehttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61573316550355Instagram: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.instagram.com/brynne_erickson/Threads: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.threads.com/@brynne_erickson?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==Takeaways:Parker and Alex have been together for over 10 years, navigating their relationship in a conservative environment.Coming out experiences can vary greatly, with some being forced and others being more secure and self-driven.Identity is a complex interplay of innate traits and learned behaviors, with love being a core component. The couple emphasizes the importance of love and support in raising children, regardless of traditional family structures. They believe that societal norms often complicate the understanding of family and identity.Alex's journey involved significant challenges, including correction therapy and navigating his faith. They stress the importance of empathy and understanding in discussions about non-traditional families.Parenthood is a journey that requires preparation, love, and support from the community.Ultimately, they advocate for living and letting live, encouraging acceptance and kindness. Ryan Liston - What to Say (And What Not to Say) When a Loved One Leaves the Church + Faith Transition
In this follow-up episode with my brother Ryan, he shares the response he got after publicly sharing his faith transition story. Over 30-40 people reached out, many sharing their own journeys. We talk about what's actually helpful when someone you love is going through a faith transition. Ryan's advice: lead with love, ask "what do you need?" instead of trying to fix them, and avoid "why" questions that feel aggressive. Don't ask "haven't you had spiritual experiences?" because it feels like you're trying to pull them back to faith rather than honoring where they are now. The most helpful thing is simply letting people say the words out loud without judgment. We discuss how to navigate these conversations with honesty, asking clarifying questions to understand rather than convince, and trusting that love is bigger than our differences. How I Process Anger Before I Take It Out on My Kids — A Real-Time Walk & Talk
In this Walk and Talk episode, I share a real-time experience of processing anger before I got home to my kids. My six-year-old woke up his younger brother after I explicitly told him not to, and I was livid. Instead of being home to yell at them, I was out on a walk pushing the stroller. I called my husband, validated how angry I was out loud, kept walking, and within five minutes the anger moved through my body. By the time I got home, I didn't need to yell. I could calmly address it without biting anyone's head off or having to apologize later. I talk about how emotions are just information about our thoughts, and sometimes we just need to give them attention for a few minutes and let them move through. Movement helps process that energy. When we do react in ways we don't want to, the most important thing is to apologize and not shame our humanness, because that only makes it worse.Brynne’s Social:Facebook: @Brynne Erickson - my public pagehttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61573316550355Instagram: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.instagram.com/brynne_erickson/Threads: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.threads.com/@brynne_erickson?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==Takeaways:Processing emotions is a vital skill in parenting.Movement can help in regulating emotional energy.Emotions provide information about our thoughts. It's okay to feel angry; acknowledging it is key.We should allow others to experience their emotions.Yelling often leads to regret; awareness helps prevent it.Self-compassion is crucial when reacting emotionally.Emotions are temporary and can be processed.Grace towards ourselves improves emotional responses.Understanding emotions leads to better communication.Sound bites:"I am so angry about this.""We're human, and that's okay.""The awareness of it is key."Chapters:00:00 Processing Emotions in Daily Life02:55 The Role of Movement in Emotional Regulation05:50 Understanding Emotions as Information

It's Not a Trial, It's Information: How Reframing Hard Things Changed Everything - Robyn Whitworth
In this episode, I interview my mentor Robin Whitworth about the concept of contrast and how it's changed the way I navigate life. Robin explains how "contrast" is a neutral way of looking at anything that's not your ideal, instead of calling things "hard" or "trials." It's opposition that allows us to make choices and grow.Robin shares her journaling process for discovering sponsored thoughts, those deeper intentions fueling our surface desires. She introduces the concept of tethers from Living Untethered, which are the conditions we place on our own love and worth. We discuss practical tools like mirror work for unconditional self-love, and how realizing we've always been held and loved by God can help us release those conditions. Contrast isn't something to dread. Honoring Where You Are: Why Small Steps and Self Compassion Beat Forcing It Every Time
In this first Walk and Talk episode, I'm on the treadmill sharing my journey with exercise and postpartum body changes. I talk about fluctuating 40 pounds between three pregnancies and how I've shifted from desperately wanting to lose weight to focusing on strength and energy instead. I want a body that lets me hike, run with my kids, do a Spartan race, and do simple things like get up off the floor without effort. After my third son was born in August 2024, I tried jumping back into hard HIIT workouts and restricted eating. I completely depleted myself and couldn't function. So I got creative and asked: what does my body actually need? The answer was simple walks and honoring my hunger cues. No fad diets, no extreme changes. When I gave myself permission to honor what I wanted, I naturally started wanting to do more. Some days it's walking, some days Pilates, some days nothing. There's no shame, no race. I'm in this for the long game. Honor where you are, but also honor where you want to be, and ask yourself: what's one small thing I can do to get closer?Brynne’s Social:Facebook: @Brynne Erickson - my public pagehttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61573316550355Instagram: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.instagram.com/brynne_erickson/Threads: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.threads.com/@brynne_erickson?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==Takeaways:Embrace authenticity in your fitness journey.Honor where you are, especially during challenging times.Set realistic goals that align with your current circumstances.Creative solutions can help overcome fitness obstacles.Self-compassion is crucial for mental well-being.Small, incremental changes lead to significant progress.Avoid comparing your journey to others.Listen to your body and respect its needs.Focus on strength and energy rather than weight loss.Navigating grief requires patience and self-care.Chapters:00:00 Embracing Authenticity and Exercise Challenges03:13 Honoring Your Body and Setting Realistic Goals06:07 Creative Solutions for Fitness and Well-being08:57 The Importance of Self-Compassion and Small Steps11:41 Navigating Grief and Stress with Care

What Happened When I Let Love Make Every Decision — A Faith Talk on Choosing Christ Over Fear
In this episode, I share a talk I wrote in November 2023 after being called as young women's president, titled "Love Like Jesus." I talk about how I asked my counselors what message they wanted our girls to take with them into the world, and the common theme was love. This has been my guiding star for the last few years as I've grown spiritually. When things don't make sense or I'm confused or angry, focusing on the great commandments of love keeps me grounded.I dive into the three commandments: love God, love others, and love yourself. I ask whether our love has conditions. Do we see each other as equals even when we disagree, vote differently, identify differently, or parent differently? Do we love the weird kid at school the same as the popular kid? Do we love ourselves no matter our weight or mistakes? I share how Christ loved without bounds. He ate with, sat with, walked with, listened to, healed, and served all people, especially those on the margins.I talk about my parenting journey and how asking "what would love do?" in every moment has changed everything: calmer voice, fewer timeouts, more snuggling. I share how I realized I was trying to answer all my big questions on my own without including my heavenly parents and savior, and how creating an intimate relationship with them has given me peace even without all the answers. The love of our heavenly parents is never earned. It's always there. We just have to choose to partake of it.Brynne’s Social:Facebook: @Brynne Erickson - my public pagehttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61573316550355Instagram: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.instagram.com/brynne_erickson/Threads: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.threads.com/@brynne_erickson?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==Takeaways:The theme of love is central to spiritual growth.Love God, love others, and love yourself are essential commandments.Pure love is unconditional and inclusive.Christ's love is a model for how we should love others.Choosing love can lead to more peaceful parenting.Joy is found in loving Jesus, others, and oneself.Building a relationship with heavenly parents is crucial for guidance.Asking for help from God is a vital part of faith.Love is always available; we just need to choose it.Seeing others as equals fosters a loving community.Chapters:00:00 Introduction to Love Like Jesus01:55 The Commandments of Love04:19 Pure Love and Its Boundaries05:45 Parenting Through Love07:39 Finding Rest in Christ's Love09:55 Choosing Love and Agency

Called to Lead at Church When I Wasn't Sure I Even Believed: My Story of Faith, Doubt & Saying Yes
In this solo episode, I share my personal story of being called as young women's president despite my doubts, questions, and new beliefs that my bishop was fully aware of. I talk about how I first felt prompted to meet with my bishop just to let him know where I was at with my faith; not planning to step away from church, but having big questions and wanting him to know he could connect me with anyone else feeling the same way. Then one day while getting ready in the bathroom, I had this thought: "You're going to be the next young women's president." I immediately dismissed it as there's no way I could serve in that calling with my new beliefs, especially believing it's totally okay to be a lesbian. But sure enough, I got the text to meet with the bishop. I was scared and frustrated. I loved my chill activity days calling where I worked with young boys twice a month. In the interview, I told the bishop I felt so unqualified and incapable because of what I didn't believe. He asked me one simple question: "What do you think the youth need to know?" I broke down and said they need to know they're unconditionally loved no matter what they do, say, or choose. He agreed and extended the calling anyway. He told me my name came to him at 3 AM, and he couldn't deny it. I couldn't deny I already knew from my bathroom experience. It's been a beautiful journey. I just focus on helping these girls know they're loved unconditionally. Their simple testimonies have been helpful for me too. I believe God needed me with my doubts, and I'm grateful for this evidence of divine help in my life.Brynne’s Social:Facebook: @Brynne Erickson - my public pagehttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61573316550355Instagram: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.instagram.com/brynne_erickson/Threads: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.threads.com/@brynne_erickson?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==Sound bites:"I was floored. How to Lead Youth Without Being Controlling: Letting Girls Own Their Camp Experience with Kim Garrett
In this episode, I sit down with Kim Garrett to talk about her experience as girls camp director and how she created an incredible experience for the young women. Kim shares how she completely shifted the approach by letting the girls have as much choice as possible; from picking their committees (activities, bonding, spiritual, and food) to choosing lip syncing over traditional skits. The theme was "Daughters of Light," and instead of "stand in the light" (which felt too checklisty and rigid), she wanted every girl to know they ARE light, no matter where they are in their testimony journey.Kim talks about the powerful way she prepped the youth camp leaders by showing them the scene from Wicked where Glinda joins Elphaba in her quirky dance and teaching them to let go of their "coolness" and status to show up for people who are different from them. She challenged them to embrace the weird, quirky girls they'd never talk to outside of church, and the girls rose to the occasion beautifully. There was no drama, just genuine sisterhood. We also dive into the spiritual activities she planned, like a sunset hike where girls shared how they find light in their lives, and walking back in the dark with lit-up trees representing peace, hope, and goodness. It's a beautiful conversation about empowering youth, creating inclusive spaces, and trusting girls to lead their own camp experience.Brynne’s Social:Facebook: @Brynne Erickson - my public pagehttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61573316550355Instagram: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.instagram.com/brynne_erickson/Threads: @brynne_ericksonhttps://www.threads.com/@brynne_erickson?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==Sound bites:"All is not well.""This is their camp.""There was no drama."Chapters:00:00 The Joy of Girls Camp Memories03:24 Reflecting on Personal Camp Experiences06:29 The Evolution of Camp Activities09:30 Empowering Young Leaders at Camp12:20 Facilitating Creativity and Choice15:22 Balancing Tradition and Innovation16:10 Daughters of Light: A Theme of Empowerment19:21 Creating a Meaningful Camp Experience23:22 Finding and Sharing the Light29:34 Building a Supportive Community34:19 Anticipating Future Camps
