You might think a Trappist monk is on a spiritual level far beyond us. But in our next class in The Saints we come to Thomas Merton, who made prayer, meditation and contemplation accessible for everyone. He is one of the most thoughtful writers on the spiritual life in all of Christianity. Merton will help us grow in our awareness of the Lord.

At Missio Dei, we believe Jesus is the center of everything. This conviction shapes who we are and how we live as a community. We call this insistence on the centrality of Jesus, our Jesus centered theology. Here's the thing though, practicing a Jesus centered theology isn't always easy or even simple. Especially in a world where so much can divide us. In this class, we’ll explore what it means to be a people centered on Jesus. Together, we’ll examine how focusing on him unites us beyond our differences and theological distinctives. Instead of dividing we aim to embody a faith rooted in the life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

Books like Daniel, Ezekiel, and Revelation captivate us with their vivid imagery, sparking both wonder and confusion. Few sections of Scripture have generated more debate and disagreement than these, but how should we read and understand them? Most importantly, how do they ultimately point us to Jesus, even when they feel so different from His teachings?

There are over 21 letters in the New Testament, filled with profound theological content and controversy. These letters also serve as intimate correspondence between real friends, exploring what it means to follow Jesus in their specific time and place. How can we read these letters in a way that respects their context and informs our world? 

On May 26 we started a new series exploring peace; what peace has to do with the gospel, what it means for Jesus to be the "prince of peace," and how we can be "peace makers." But exploring peace in the Bible, raises some important questions like, what do we with all the violence? Especially the violence attributed to God in the Bible.

Theologian J.I. Packer famously called the Incarnation the “supreme mystery” of the gospel. Neither the mystery of his death or resurrection, but rather Christ’s entering into the world and sharing in our humanity is what C.S. Lewis called the “Central Miracle” of the Christian faith, upon which every other miracle depends. And yet we seldom talk much about how “the Word became flesh and dwelled among us.”

In our newest, How To Read the Bible class we are joined by Old Testament Scholar Dr. Brennan Breed. Dr. Breed helps us understand the nature of apocalyptic literature throughout the Bible. As we gain an understanding for this peculiar genre we're able to grasp, in a new and deeper way, what the apocalyptic literature of the Bible is saying to us today.

In this class, we were joined by Dr. Michael Gorman (professor/scholar/author) who answered some of our biggest questions about the book of Revelation.

In this class we explore how to study and read the conquest narratives of Bible through the person and work of Jesus. We believe the entire people is about Jesus even the most difficult to read parts. As we learn how to see the Bible through Jesus, everything changes. But, how do we read and make sense of the war, violence, and racialized conflict of the conquest narratives?

How do we read there Bible? How do we make sense of the strange and difficult passages about God that seem to so contradict the person of Jesus? We believe the entire Bible is about Jesus, even the horrid and offensive parts are intended to lead us towards Jesus. As we learn how to see the Bible through Jesus, everything changes.
