Welcome Chef Brian to MAC West
The Missouri Athletic Club is pleased to introduce the newest West Clubhouse Executive Chef, Brian Hardesty!Hardesty has been a hospitality professional for over 30 years. His career began at some of the top St. Louis restaurants at the time, working his way up quickly to his first Executive Chef level position at Terrene Restaurant in Central West End. Hardesty has owned and operated his own restaurant group, Guerrilla Street Food, for just over a decade while also running his consulting business Maven Bureau since 2012. He has created a handful of concepts over the years — from fine dining, fast casual service, and entertainment facilities. Get Involved in Your Club Through Club Governance
It is a great time to get involved in the future of the MAC! The Club is now accepting nominations for the 2025 Board of Governors and letters of intent are due on or before Feb. 25. On the latest episode of MAC Club Connections, hear from two past presidents on the important and rewarding opportunity that is serving the MAC through club governance whether that's on the Board or on one of the four standing Committees. Past President Brent Beumer and Past President Neal Perryman shared what led them to serving on the Board. Anyone who is interested in Board service should feel free to reach out to a current or past governor. They will be happy to answer questions and share their experiences. The Board of Governors election is on May 1 and committees will be seated in June by 2025-2026 President Mike Kozeny and his Board class. MAC Sports Foundation Finishes Youth and Family Center Project
After a year-long initiative led by the MAC Sports Foundation, renovations to the gymnasium and building entrances at the Youth & Family Center (YFC) are complete! The finished project was marked on Wednesday, Oct. 25 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony with those involved in attendance.The YFC welcomes neighbors of all ages and provides programs and resources to grow healthy families and build a strong community. The MAC Sports Foundation and the YFC are a natural fit, as both organizations share a vision that athletics has the power to transform lives in our community for generations.Renovations included installing a brand-new gymnasium floor, replacing exterior doors, upgrading security features, refreshing entrance and gymnasium spaces with new paint, and providing a protective floor covering when the gym is used as a multi-purpose space. MAC Charitable Society for Children's 2023 Charities
The Missouri Athletic Club's Charitable Society for Children has been giving back to the community for the past 20 years. They have impacted more than 50 charities and donated over $450,000. Taylor Twellman Celebrates St. Louis Soccer
Native St. Louisan, MLS legend and Apple TV broadcaster Taylor Twellman spoke about his career, his foundation and what it means for St. Louis to have an MLS team, all ahead of hosting The MAC Speaker Series presentation: A Celebration of St. Louis Soccer. USBWA College Basketball Awards
The Missouri Athletic Club honors the best of college basketball through exclusive interviews at the USBWA College Basketball Awards. Podcast guests include Jabari Smith (Wayman Tisdale Award Winner), Aliyah Boston (Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Winner), Aneesah Morrow (Tamika Catchings Award Winner), Tommy Lloyd (Henry Ida Award Winner), Barry Hinson (featured guest) and Aaron Pawlitz (College Basketball Awards Banquet MAC Chairman).The U.S. Basketball Writers Association College Basketball Awards made a great return to its home, the Missouri Athletic Club, on April 11. Following a two-year pause on the event due to COVID, a sold-out crowd filled the Missouri Room to honor the best in college basketball for the 2021-22 season. The event featured a star-studded lineup of award winners that attracted the media spotlight.Long-time coach and a favorite with MAC audiences, Barry Hinson kicked the banquet off with his mix of comedy and folksy stories. The male and female freshmen of the year were each honored. Auburn’s Jabari Smith, who has drawn comparisons to NBA star Kevin Durant, received the Wayman Tisdale Award. DePaul “Diaper Dandy” Aneesah Morrow averaged 21.9 points and 13.8 rebounds per game and won the Tamika Catchings Trophy awarded to the top women’s freshman in college basketball.University of Arizona’s Tommy Lloyd was awarded the 2022 Henry Iba Coach of the Year winner, the same award his old boss Mark Few won in 2017. Lloyd greatly exceeded expectations in his first season as a head coach as he guided the Wildcats to a 33-4 record, swept the Pac-12 regular-season and postseason titles and led his team to a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Dawn Staley was awarded the 2022 USBWA Female Basketball Coach of the Year for the second time, after winning her first in 2020. This year, Staley led South Carolina to the national championship.Staley’s star player, Aliyah Boston won the Ann Meyers Drysdale Player of the Year Award presented to the top player in women’s college basketball. Kentucky junior forward Oscar Tshiebwe won the Oscar Robertson Trophy after averaging double-double on the season. Kentucky coach John Calipari was on-hand to talk about his star player during the banquet.Tom Ackerman, Sports Director at KMOX and a proud MAC Member, did a masterful job as emcee. He concluded the banquet program by doing a Q&A with Porter Moser, the 2022 recipient of the USBWA’s “Good Guy” Award. The University of Oklahoma head coach who just completed his first season with the Sooners, shared reflections of his historic tenure at Loyola of Chicago, as well as the time he lived at the MAC for several months when he was first hired as an assistant coach at SLU.The strong support of the Membership and the sponsors made the event possible and the MAC looks forward to continuing to grow this event into another great annual sports banquet on the Club’s social calendar.Missouri Athletic Club Connections highlights the foremost private club in St. Louis known for attracting exceptional people and enriching lives for generations.
