Safe + Secure: Life with the Good Shepherd

Send us Fan MailIn this episode of the MomLife Ministries Podcast, Melanie and Christy pause to reflect on what God has been teaching us through our Safe + Secure journey. After spending the year anchored in Psalm 23 and John 10, we revisit the comforting truth that Jesus, our Good Shepherd, is present with us in every moment of motherhood—the busy, the beautiful, and the overwhelming. Together, we talk about fast-paced seasons, emotional honesty with God, noticing spiritual growth, and trusting him through wilderness stretches of mom life. We also explore the importance of remembering God’s faithfulness and building spiritual friendships that help anchor us in truth. Safe + Secure: Life with Prayer

Send us Fan MailIn this episode, we’re slowing down to practice Lectio Divina: an ancient, prayerful way of listening to God through Scripture. As we transition from Psalm 23 into John 10 for the spring semester, we’ll meditate on Jesus’s words, “I am the Good Shepherd.”Together we’ll walk through four simple movements:Read—Notice what stands out from the passage.Reflect—Consider what God might be saying through the passage.Respond—Pray from your heart.Rest—Sit quietly with God and listen.Using John 10:3–11, we’ll listen to the Shepherd who calls us by name, leads us toward abundant life, and protects us from the thief who steals and destroys. This practice helps us slow down, quiet the noise, and recognize Jesus’s loving, guiding voice in our everyday lives as moms.Listen during a walk, your commute, or a quiet moment at home… anytime you need space to slow down, listen to God, and build a practice of discernment.📖 Want more MomLife encouragement? Safe + Secure: Life with Contentment w/ Chris Baxter

Send us Fan MailWe live in a world that constantly tells us we need more, deserve more, and should never be satisfied. Yet Psalm 23:1 reminds us, “The Lord is my Shepherd; I have all that I need.” So what does it really mean to live with contentment when our culture fuels discontentment at every turn?In this episode of the MomLife Ministries Podcast, we’re continuing our series Safe + Secure: Life With the Good Shepherd with special guest Chris Baxter (learn more about Chris at respitefortheweary.com). Together we’ll unpack what contentment looks like in real life—how to resist the “I deserve” mindset without slipping into passivity, how to worship in the waiting, and how to trust God’s sovereign plan in our relationships, parenting, and seasons of longing. If you’ve ever felt the tension of wanting “more or different,” but also sensed the call to rest in God’s provision, this conversation will encourage you. Contentment doesn’t come from circumstances—it comes from the Good Shepherd, who is both our authority and our compassionate guide.Christmas Morning: A Heartwarming Christmas Adventure of Wonder and Faith by Chris E. Baxter, mentioned in today's episode, is available now.📖 Want to read along this season? Let this episode be your guide for how to prayerfully read through the book of Psalms. Bonus: Safe + Secure: Psalm 23 Lectio Divina

Send us Fan MailIn this bonus episode, join us for a gentle, guided lectio divina prayer time focused on Psalm 23. Whether you're on a walk, folding laundry, waiting in the school pick-up line, or savoring a rare quiet moment at home—this is an invitation to pause and open your heart to God’s presence.Lectio divina simply means “divine reading.” It’s a slow, reflective way of engaging Scripture—not just to gain information, but to cultivate intimacy with God. As we prayerfully dwell on his Word, we create space to listen, receive, and respond.Yes, there’s great value in studying Scripture with depth and context—but this practice reminds us that God’s Word is also deeply personal. It’s an invitation to be with him, to be known by him, and to find refreshment for our souls. We hope this time helps you reconnect with the Shepherd who sees you, knows you, and welcomes you to come just as you are.📖 Want to read along this season? MomLife Live: Parenting With Hope in a Broken World

Send us Fan MailMomLife Ministries hosted a live event in Clarksville, TN on April 7, 2025. This is the recording from that evening. Melanie and Christy were joined with 80 local moms to talk about how parenting in today’s world comes with so many unique challenges—especially as we find ourselves facing tough conversations with our kids about things like sex and relationships, technology and social media, and a culture that promotes messages contrary to the Truth of Scripture. It can be easy to feel overwhelmed—whether by fear, comparison, or the pressure of perfectionism. But we don’t have to parent from a place of defeat! Taking Captive Every Thought

Send us Fan MailWholehearted—Loving God With All Your MindEver feel like your thoughts are running wild and trying to make you believe a whole array of things that aren’t true or helpful? Christy and special guest Stephani Cook talk about what it means to practically take every thought captive in obedience to Christ. There are so many things around us fighting for our mind’s attention—social media, general media (tv, movies, books, music, podcasts, news), the voices of friends and family, our own negative self-talk… And all of it can feel so very loud. Discerning what is good and right and true can feel really challenging at times in the midst of all of the noise. We must learn to "catch" our thoughts, "check" them, and "change" them if they aren't in alignment with what God says is true. It is slow and steady work that requires patience, intentionality, prayer, and often the help, encouragement, and accountability of others. Sign up for The MomLife Monthly, our monthly newsletter at momlife.org. New Year, Renewed Mind: A Guided Prayer Time

Send us Fan MailWholehearted—Loving God With All Your MindJoin Melanie for a guided prayer time using Matthew 11:28-30. Take some time while you’re on a walk, folding laundry, waiting in the school pick-up line, or have a few rare moments of quiet at home to practice opening our mind to hear from God through the practice of lectio divina. Very simply, lectio divina is a devotional reading of scripture. The goal is to grow in your relationship with God by slowly and prayerfully dwelling on a passage of scripture. There is great importance in intellectually understanding scripture and exegeting the text to better understand the history, context, and meaning of God’s Word. But it is also important to remember that reading God’s overarching story in scripture is an invitation for us to intimately know him and be known by him.…Send in your questions! How are these words encouraging [or challenging] to you?A car has four wheels; the goal is to keep them full, balanced, and aligned.
