Mother-Daughter Designers: How Jute + Jade is Blooming on Queenwood Part II
Send Ben a message, he'd love to hear from you. What happens when a mother and daughter spend 31 years building a business together—and then decide to rebrand, relocate, and take the biggest leap of their careers? In this episode, we sit down with Ann and Kim, the mother-daughter team behind Jute + Jade, Morton's full-service floral and interior design studio. What started as Floral Designs in Tremont in 1994 has evolved into something much bigger—and they're about to move into a brand new space on Queenwood this June.Ann shares how she started the business on a whim when Kim was just in grade school, training for only one week at a Peoria florist before opening her doors. Kim takes us through her journey from picking up flower scraps off the floor as a kid to co-opting at the shop her senior year, to eventually buying into the business in 2016.We talk about the creative process behind custom interior design projects, the decision to rebrand after decades as Floral Designs, and the nerve-wracking week when five buyers competed for their dream building—the old Flickinger Tractor location on Queenwood. This is a story about mothers and daughters, small-town roots, and what it takes to grow a business for over three decades without losing your passion. Whether you're dreaming of working with family, planning a home refresh, or just love a good mother-daughter success story—this one's for you.Jute + Jade is moving to their new location at the former Flickinger Tractor building on Queenwood in Morton. Tradecraft: Joe's Recipe for the Cheat Code of Life Part II
Send Ben a message, he'd love to hear from you. What does it look like to leave behind a successful career in law and finance to pursue your true passion? In this episode, we sit down with Joe, the owner and sole operator of Tradecraft, Morton's newest bakery specializing in expertly crafted French laminated pastries. Yum!Joe's journey is a bit unconventional. From East Peoria to Chicago, Philadelphia, Texas, and back again—he's been a law student, a university administrator, a Certified Financial Planner with an MBA, and now, a trained French pastry chef who found his home in Morton just three months ago.But here's what makes Joe's story truly special. Open just two days a week (Saturdays and Sundays, 8am-12pm), Joe runs Tradecraft entirely by himself because this isn't a job—it's a craft. It's a passion. And in his own words, it's how he found "the cheat code to life."We talk about what it takes to master the art of laminated pastries, why he chose Morton over the big city, the buildout process from farmers market to brick-and-mortar, and what it means to define success on your own terms. Joe's philosophy on quality over quantity, craftsmanship over commerce, and passion over profit will resonate with anyone who's ever dreamed of doing what they love.Whether you're a croissant connoisseur, an aspiring entrepreneur, or someone searching for permission to pursue your passion—this conversation is for you.Tradecraft is located in Morton, Illinois, and is open Saturdays and Sundays from 8am-12pm.
