Movies for Breakfast

On each episode of the Movies for Breakfast podcast, I review, analyze, and discuss movies in depth, sometimes with a guest. My criticism is informed by my opinions on film, other media, art, culture, politics, history, and vibes. As much as I’m brutally honest, I also try to be fair. Movies are subjective at the end of the day, and I am not here to cinephilically explain to you why your favorite film should be Citizen Kane.XOXO, [email protected] Hosted on Acast. I read The Odyssey so you don't have to – here's the whole story, as translated by Emily Wilson.

Tried to make a long story short, but I mostly just made a long story slightly less long. Anyway I hope you enjoy this deep dive on The Odyssey by Homer as translated by Emily Wilson – I deeply enjoyed making it. Doing the reading and writing for this video made Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey (2026) that much more interesting for me and I can’t wait to analyze the film now too…if you’re reading this leave me a 5 star review on Spotify and Apple Podcasts 💗Tiktok https://www.tiktok.com/@movies4breakfast Instagram https://www.instagram.com/movies4breakfastpod/ Find me on all platforms at moviesforbreakfast.comChapter timestamps00:00:00 hello00:01:17 historical context00:07:47 translation talk00:15:42 themes00:27:26 Telemachy00:29:30 Book 1 The Boy and the Goddess00:34:47 Book 2 A Dangerous Journey00:41:58 Book 3 An Old King Remembers00:48:21 Book 4 What the Sea God Said00:55:56 Checking in with Odysseus?00:56:36 Book 5 From the Goddess to the Storm01:05:36 Book 6 A Princess and Her Laundry01:12:11 Book 7 A Magical Kingdom01:15:22 Book 8 The Songs of a Poet01:28:18 Apologoi01:29:19 Book 9 A Pirate in a Shepherd's Cave01:43:42 Book 10 The Winds and the Witch01:56:11 Book 11 The Dead02:04:07 Book 12 Difficult Choices02:13:23 Nostos02:13:51 Book 13 Two Tricksters02:20:42 Book 14 A Loyal Slave02:22:23 Book 15 The Prince Returns02:26:50 Book 16 Father and Son02:34:07 Book 17 Insults and Abuse02:43:17 Book 18 Two Beggars02:53:16 Book 19 The Queen and the Beggar03:02:03 Book 20 The Last Banquet03:08:55 Book 21 An Archery Contest03:18:02 Book 22 Bloodshed03:28:02 Book 23 The Olive Tree Bed03:36:50 Book 24 Restless Spirits03:44:56 conclusionMedia creditsMusic: Karl Casey @ White Bat AudioStock videos: https://www.vecteezy.com/free-videos/Movie posters from Letterboxd
