MOVIES WITH MY MOTHER

My mother and I sit down and watch a random cult classic movie, give listeners an overview and maybe a few opinions before we move on to talk about literally everything else. The gimmick is that I *love* movies and she hasn't seen a movie in a cinema since the 90s.

  1. 106

EPISODE 108: LOCK, STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS

Mom and I sat down to watch Guy Ritchie's Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. We talked trivia, the director and the Madonna of it all. We had a lovely pub grub fish 'n chips meal and did a basic TikTok. We discussed a bad review we got too. Fun was had by all. I have to apologize for some farty sounding squeaking. I had my microphone too close to my face the whole time, and with a computer, a notebook and a couple of cats in my lap, it was hard to get comfortable LOL.

  2. 105

EPISODE 107: NIGHT OF THE COMET

Mom and I sat down to watch Night Of The Comet. We were...disappointed, though it's easy to see why it's a Cult Classic. We had a grab n' go style food court breakfast smorgasbord, talked for 2 seconds about the director, the end of the world and I troubleshot Mom's favorite news app on the Roku.

  3. 104

    EPISODE 106: V FOR VENDETTA

Mm and I sat down and watched V For Vendetta. We chatted the director, trivia and stats and had a theme meal of Egg In A Hole's with a side of hash and fruit. We get a little critical of current events and my brain melts down at the end. Go watch our accompanying TikTok.

  4. 103

    EPISODE 105: RONIN

Mom and I sat down to watch Ronin, a movie I was sure would cleanse her palate after The Shining. We had a lovely charcuterie board lunch and talked about the director, trivia and stats.

  5. 102

    EPISODE 104: THE SHINING

Mom and I finally sat down and watched The Shining. We didn't have very much snow to accompany it, but we enjoyed it nevertheless. We had a room service meal from the Waldorf-Astoria in Chicago because the room service at The Stanley was all steak and I had to think of Mom's digestion. We talked trivia, stats and the Kubrick of it all.

  6. 101

    EPISODE 103: WHITE CHRISTMAS

Mom and I sit down to watch this Christmas classic. We had lovely lettuce wrap sandwiches and talked about the movie. We get a little political at the end, so put on your tinfoil hat and join us!

  7. 100

    EPISODE 102: DRACULA

Mom and I sat wrapped up Halloween 2025 with Dracula 1931. There is no food in this movie, so as a nod to Bela Lugosi, we had goulash and boy was it good.

  8. 99

  10. 97

    EPISODE 99: ABIGAIL

Ending our streak of favorite movies on our way to Episode 100, Mom and I sat down and watched Abigail. A bright spot in Universal Pictures Dark Universe, this movie is great. We talked the directors and trivia, and Mom learned more about Found Footage Films, and learned that Abigail was not Found Footage, to her relief. Find this movie, it really is one of the better horror movies of the last few years.

  11. 96

    EPISODE 98: THE WEDDING SINGER

Mom and I sat down with a good meatball and enjoyed The Wedding Singer for the umpteenth time. If you haven't seen this, it's time to move out from under your rock. The soundtracks are bomb. We talked the director, the trivia and just how well Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore mesh on screen.

  12. 95

    EPISODE 97: TOTALLY AWESOME

Mom and I sat down and watch an unhinged 80's parody, Totally Awesome. This movie had next to no trivia and mom wasn't able to dig too much up on Neil Brennan. It's on YouTube to watch in the shittiest resolution possible, but get your hands on a copy of this, you will love it.

  19. 88

    EPISODE 90: BYZANTIUM

Mom and I started our Countdown to Episode 100, with Byzantium. This is one of my favorite movies, by one of my favorite directors, Neil Jordan. The recording was a little wonky because the first twenty minutes got doubled when someone's ear touched my computer screen. I'm not naming names, but it starts with Tallulah. Prepare to hear me gushing. And continue to follow along as we continue to countdown to episode 100. LOL this is the first time Mom and I have planned a block of 10 movies. We are NEVER this prepared.

  25. 82

    EPISODE 84: THE POPE'S EXORCIST

With the passing of one Pope and the installation of the new one, Mom thought we should watch a movie with a Pope. Of the list she gave me, I knew this was currently streaming. This is a blind watch for both of us and to say we were surprised it wasn't trash is an understatement. We had a meal fit for Pope Francis and talked about the very limited info on both the director and the trivia. Go find this movie...it had it's moments of being formulaic, but overall, it was an OK show.

  26. 81

  30. 77

    EPISODE 79: PCU

Mom and I sat down and watched a classic 90s comedy that played on a loop on Comedy Central. Now it's out of print and hard to find. But seriously...try to find it! There wasn't much on the director or trivia-wise, so we just riff most of the time.

  31. 76

Mom and I sat down and watched Freaks, Tod Browning's film about circus sideshow folk. We had circus food, corndogs and pretzels, peanuts and candy as our theme meal and we discuss Tod Browning and whether or not this film was exploitation. 34. 73

EPISODE 75: CAPTAIN KRONOS VAMPIRE HUNTER

Mom and I dipped our toes into Hammer Films with Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter. It's not a great movie, but it will always have a soft place in my heart. We talked about the director and Hammer Films and then move into hot topics and recent deaths. The movie didn't have any eating in it, so we had pub grub and it was great.

  35. 72

EPISODE 74: LET'S GO TO PRISON

To send 2024 out with a laugh, Mom and I sat down and watched Let's Go To Prison. It's not a cult classic, per se, but it's hilarious nonetheless. We busted out the prison trays and had chicken sandwiches, fries, greens and hawaiian punch. This movie had hardly any trivia, so we talked Bob Odenkirk, 2024 prison stats and a Movies With My Mother year in review.

  36. 71

Murnau. The copy we watched was very muddy and the music was oddly jazzy...so if you go looking for this, find a better version. This is our 70th episode!! Who knew we'd get this far? Thanks for being with us on this ride!

  40. 67

EPISODE 69: HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL

    EPISODE 63: VAMPYR

Mom and I sat down and watched a film, like Mom has never seen before: foreign and nearly silent. We watched 1932's Vampyr. The Criterion cut we watched was comprised of bits and pieces from the German and French releases. The English release has been lost to time. There was no food in this movie, so we just had a nice diner breakfast. We talked vampire lore, vampire film history then made fun of JD Vance a little. All in all, a good session.
