Moviesucktastic

MovieSucktastic is the movie review podcast that isn't afraid to occasionally stray from the path. Hosted by film fanatics Joey and Scott, MovieSucktastic includes features like the Finger List, Cinematic Confessional, and Movie Viewing Challenges. All kinds of films are discussed and dissected, with a special loving emphasis on bad movies. Want to hear what an out of work writer prone to ranting and an IT Tech with an exhaustive memory think about your latest Netflix rental? You've come to the right place.

  1. 474

    Episode 474: Alien Romulus (2024)

What Joey felt was a solid good film in the Alien franchise, Scott did not. For any mistakes it may have, it's better than anything Alien based in a while.

  2. 473

    Episode 473: Gamer (2009)

A film that tries too hard to be edgy and cool along with high velocity action scenes. Nearly everything in this movie doesn't work. Dexter and Leonidas can't save this one.

  3. 472

Episode 472: Oscar Talk: Oscar Predictions (2026)

This is our prediction episode. Scott and Joey go over every category and pick their winners. We'll see who wins the following week!

  4. 471

Episode 471: Oscar Talk: The Secret Agent (2025)

An excellent film that we're happy to see the recognition it deserves. Films like this were able to get nominated because voters didn't buy the Wicked or Avatar hype.

  5. 470

Episode 470: Oscar Talk: One Battle After Another (2025)

The inevitable Best Picture winner in my opinion. Scott thinks so too. One of Paul Thomas Anderson's best, if not his best film to date.

  6. 469

    Episode 469: Oscar Talk: F1 (2025)

The only true blue popcorn film on the list. A surprise that it's nominated for Best Picture but after watching you see why. A fun and thrilling film from beginning to end.

  7. 468

Episode 468: Oscar Talk: Marty Supreme (2025)

Loosely based or more accurately inspired by the real Mary Reisman, Marty Supreme is another excellent film by Josh Safdie. He's capable of getting just about any performance he needs from just about anyone.

  8. 467

Episode 467: Oscar Talk: Hamnet (2025)

The story of William Shakespeare and his wife Agnes after the loss of their son due to the black plague. Another extremely well made movie. I expect Jesse Buckley to walk away with the little golden man.

  9. 466

Episode 466: Oscar Talk: Train Dreams (2025)

Deeply depressing and sad film. Tells the story of logger through his life and all the happiness (not much) sadness, trauma and heartache along the way. Scott cried, Joey didn't.

  10. 465

Episode 464: Oscar Talk: Bugonia (2025)

A remake of the 2003 South Korean film Save The Green Planet! Lots to praise here but will it win best picture or any other nominations? Realistically not.

  11. 464

Episode 465: Oscar Talk: Sentimental Value (2025)

A very well made movie. A little too much hype though. Better films could have been nominated for Best Picture in its spot.

  12. 463

Episode 463: Oscar Talk: Sinners (2025)

Sinners broke the record of 14 oscar nominations with 16 this year. Joey doesn't feel it's best picture material even though he enjoyed it quite a bit. Scott feels it is. We both agree it's great though.

  13. 462

Episode 462: Oscar Talk: Frankenstein (2025)

Guillermo del Toro's adaptation of Mary Shelly's Frankenstein is as beautiful as it is a masterpiece. There isn't much wrong with this film but will it win Best Picture? We don't think so. If Guillermo hadn't won already for Shape Of Water it might have.

  14. 461

    Episode 461: Oscar Nominations (2025)

We talk about all the Oscar nominated films for 2025. What will win, what will not. Who's right?

  15. 460

    Episode 460: Society (1989)

Brian Yuzna's 80's horror classic wasn't released in America for nearly 3 years. I can see why people were afraid of this film as it's one of the best body horror movies to come out in that time period. It's not perfect but you should still check it out.

  16. 459

    Episode 459: Ultraviolet (2006)

Pretending to be a comic book wrapped in a sci-fi action film in one of the worst renditions around. The action scenes are formulaic and so bad it feels like a workprint. The story is thin and the concept is frustrating.

  17. 458

Episode 458: Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls (1970)

Directed by Russ Meyer and written by Roger Ebert, a film about making it in the 70's as a rock band and all that goes with it. It's tastes like the 60's so much I was looking for Austin Powers the whole time.

  18. 457

Episode 457: The Lawnmower Man (1992)

Loosely based on the Stephen King short story is highly inaccurate. Director's cut is a better movie but still only average.

  19. 456

    Episode 456: Alley Cat (1984)

Part 70's exploitation, part vigilante, part female prison, part court drama, part karate but ALL ALLEY CAT! Not a great film by any means but damn does it hit all the "so bad it’s good" vibes.

  20. 455

Episode 455: Death Laid An Egg (1968)

A Giallo esque style film. Nothing really horrifying from this movie at all. Except, except for the animal cruelty. If that bothers you, stay far away.

  21. 454

    Episode 454: Castle Freak (1995)

When your producer says that you have create control of the film except that it has to involve a castle AND a freak, you do it! Stuart Gordon's Castle Freak is better than you expect.

  22. 453

    Episode 453: Replicant (2001)

When a serial killer (JCVD) keeps killing "Bad Mothers" a secret agency decides to create a replica of him to track him down. Surprisingly not the worst JCVD movie out there. Just saying.

  23. 452

    Episode 452: Death Dimension (1978)

When you think Exploitation, you think films like this. Terrible acting, terribly filmed and quite honestly a plot that doesn't try too hard and it shows. Needless to say, you still kinda dig it.

  24. 451

    Episode 451: Buzzard (2014)

While a very low budget film, it has its moments and delivers on exactly what it is. What can be considered a character study, it's not always enjoyable but that's not really the point.

  25. 450

    Episode 450: Rabid Grannies (1988)

Troma only distributed this film when it came out. Do yourself a favor and watch the uncut version that's now on DVD and Bluray. Not amazing but better than you're expecting.

  26. 449

    Episode 449: Fatal Games (1983)

While not up to the standard of many horror slasher films from the 80s, it does have a couple of good kills. Not a must see but probably not the worst Friday night you'll ever have.

  27. 448

    Episode 448: The Vagrant (1992)

A little unknown Dark Comedy gem released during the dog days of Summer in 1992. If you've never seen it, check it out. It's even produced by Mel Brooks.

  28. 447

    Episode 447: Cube (1997)

While many sequels and a reboot has spawned, the best film is still the first one. Scott and Joey review this 90's classic.

  29. 446

Episode 446: The Island Of Dr. Moreau (1996)

Doomed from the beginning, Dr Moreau is exactly what you don't want to get out of hand on set. From hard to work with actors and even mother nature.

  30. 445

    Episode 445: Hellbound (1994)

The last film made by Cannon and man, does it sure feel like it. Movie studios don't fail Chuck Norris, Chuck Norris fails movie studios.

  31. 444

Episode 444: The Fantastic Four (1994)

Back in 1994, they tried to make a Fantastic Four movie. This is the product of that. It was never released, for good reason.

  32. 443

    Episode 443: After Midnight (1989)

A remake of the 1945 film Dead Of Night. Told in anthology style. Mediocre at best. Much better horror movies in the 80s.

  33. 442

    Episode 442: I Am Here...Now (2009)

There really is nowhere to begin with this. How bad it truly is, on every level. Does it even fill that bad movie void?

  34. 441

    Episode 441: Oscar Talk: Oscar Wrap-Up 2025

While Scott picked the right film to win Best Picture, Joey ran away with the win for the most correct answers! We also spin the wheel for a new film to review!

  35. 440

Episode 440: Oscar Talk: Oscar Predictions 2025

Scott and Joey go over all the nominations and make their prediction ahead of the 2025 Academy Awards! Who will win? Who gets bragging rights?

  36. 439

Episode 439: Oscar Talk: A Complete Unknown (2024)

A very young Dylan makes it into the Folk scene and quickly becomes famous. He's not able to handle it all too well as it ruins his relationships and nearly his music career. Well made.

  37. 438

Episode 438: Oscar Talk: The Brutalist (2024)

When Laszlo (Brody) comes to America alone to restart his life, nothing is easy. You see why he turns to alcohol and drugs. Why he's talented but throwing it away. No one ever seems to be what they say they are.

  38. 437

Episode 437: Oscar Talk: Conclave (2024)

Surprisingly well made and gripping film. The score alone should win an Oscar as it keeps this movie moving. While the film is good, with the score it's a much better movie.

  39. 436

Episode 436: Oscar Talk: Nickel Boys (2024)

Based on the Pulitzer Prize winning novel, Nickel Boys tells the story of two boys growing up in a reform school in Florida.

  40. 435

Episode 435: Oscar Talk: Anora (2024)

Another film that starts one way and pivots into something else. It's works so well that we thought we'd go in hating this film and came out enjoying it quite a bit.

  41. 434

Episode 434: Oscar Talk: Emilia Perez (2024)

Another musical in this year's Oscar list. Was Hollywood tricked into nominating this? We think so. So, so BAD.

  42. 433

Episode 433: Oscar Talk: The Substance (2024)

This could possibly be Joey's favorite film from 2024. It's a huge achievement that it was even nominated for best picture given how the movie starts and how it ends.

  43. 432

Episode 432: Oscar Talk: Dune Part two (2024)

What's not to love about this sequel that may actually be better than the first film? Scott's not one for Sci-Fi and even he enjoyed it.

  44. 431

Episode 431: Oscar Talk: Wicked (2024)

Wicked is reviewed this week. Only part 1 and quite long. Enjoyable? Yes. Are musicals for us? No.

  45. 430

    Episode 430: Oscar Nominees (2024)

We talk about all the Oscar nominated films for 2024. What will win, what will not. Who's right?

  46. 429

Episode 429: Beau Is Afraid (2023)

Up this week is the film Beau Is Afraid. It's an odyssey esque style film where reality from fiction isn't always easy to spot. Or is it?

  47. 428

    Episode 428: Phantasm III (1994)

We review Phantasm III because, why not? Actually, we didn't have any reviews from 1994 and this was the least crappy film. Seriously.

  48. 427

    Episode 427: Subservience (2024)

If there's one thing you never do, that's give sexy nanny bots naughty parts. Nothing good comes of it, ever.

  49. 426

    Episode 426: Hereditary (2018)

This week we review the excellent Ari Aster film Hereditary. It does everything right and keeps you glued.

  50. 425

    Episode 425: Longlegs (2024)

While Scott was disappointed by the film Joey enjoyed it quite a bit. How do the boys square off against eachother about Longlegs? Find Out.
