Digital Day - How Are We Spending Time Online

This episode is a re-broadcast of the Social Cafe Twitter Space co-hosted by myself and Deborah Anderson of Social Web Cafe.We are joined by our friend Martin Lindeskog aka LyceumPeripatos on TwitterSummary generated by ZealousEpisode Art Credit: https://ideogram.ai/@ileanesmithIn this episode of *Social Cafe*, co-hosts Ileane and Deborah delve into the evolution of their digital routines, reflecting on how their daily online activities have transformed over the years. They discuss the shift from blog commenting and community engagement to navigating the complexities of social media and content creation. This evolution is marked by a transition towards platforms that allow for more immediate and flexible forms of communication, such as Substack, where writing can happen on-the-fly rather than being constrained by the structure of traditional blogging. The conversation reveals the challenges of maintaining engagement in a content-rich digital landscape rife with spam and the changing expectations of audiences who now often seek instant gratification in their online interactions. Ileane reminisces about her early blogging days, when commenting was a vital part of community building, and contrasts it with today's landscape, where many opt for quick interactions on social media instead of in-depth discussions on personal blogs.Ileane shares her recent experiences using affiliate marketing tools and how they fit into her daily digital workflow, notably highlighting the importance of utilizing apps that streamline these tasks. The hosts also touch on the surprising popularity of platforms like Instagram and TikTok for shopping, and they discuss how their personal workflows adapt to take advantage of these trends, often embracing the integration of video content across multiple platforms.Deborah contributes to the discussion by highlighting the importance of finding one's own rhythm in the digital space. She notes the challenges he faced with checklist applications like Trello, emphasizing the importance of finding tools that support productivity without becoming a distraction. This point helps listeners relate to the struggle of balancing technology use with achieving meaningful output in their personal and professional lives.Listeners are left with actionable insights on navigating the modern digital landscape, emphasizing the balance between embracing new tools like Substack and maintaining ownership over personal content. The episode closes with a light-hearted nod to the necessity of adapting to the always-changing digital environment, encouraging everyone to find the right tools and methods that align with their life and workflow preferences.Resources:Follow Ileane on Substack https://substack.com/@ileanesmithConnect with Deborah https://www.socialwebcafe.com/ai-ideas/

Audio Content is The New Black

There has never been a better time to be a Podcaster. All of the major players online are listening to us, catering to us, and suddenly audio is the new black. People like you and me believed in the power of Audio content long ago. It almost seems weird to us that the rest of the world is finally beginning to catch on. We know that podcasting (especially indie - podcasting) is a way to get our message across without fear of retribution. There are no "bosses", no gatekeepers, no government regulators, standing in between our message, our voice and our audience. Now here come all the mega - platforms jumping on the bandwagon. First we got Clubhouse - and that was all fine because it was meant to be ephemeral content. “Social audio” (I’m using air quotes) suddenly became a hot topic. Link in Bio Tools for Your Podcast

As informed podcasters, we want our podcasts listed in every directory but the problem with this is, it makes it hard to find a place where your listeners can find your show across all of the apps that they might use to listen to and follow your podcast. What you really need is one page where you can list all of these options for your listeners, but it’s hard to do this because there are so many different apps out there. Listeners can be annoyed or even frustrated when their podcast listening app of choice is hard to find. This is not a very effective way to grow your show and get more loyal listeners! In this episdose I share two tools that offer Smart Links that auto-open Podcast Apps and make it easier than ever before to get new listeners for your podcast. Anchor is Changing Course

The Anchor voyage is heading in a new direction. Anchor has announced they will no longer distribute new podcasts to Apple podcasts and they will not automatically generate RSS feeds for new shows hosted on the platform. Here's a little background; prior to Spotify acquiring Anchor one of the biggest selling points that Anchor used to bring in new podcasters, was that podcasters didn't need to worry about the hassle of submitting their shows to all the major podcasting directories (like Apple Podcasts). In the past, Anchor pledged to take care of this grueling process for you, behind-the-scenes, and submitted your show to Apple podcast with a randomly-generated email address that was hosted on the Anchor domain. Well all that is changing! Anchor is no longer going to submit new shows to the Apple podcast directory. Podcasters will be provided instructions on how to do this on their own.  Read the blog post announcement from CEO Mike Mignano https://ileane.link/anchor2021 More about Anchor from James Cridland at Podnews https://podnews.net/article/anchor-dead-shows-mythbusting Connect with Ms. Ileane on social media and sign up for the free email list https://ileanesmith.com/links If you like this podcast: BUY ME A COFFEE ☕️ https://ileane.link/coffee

Be Careful What You Ask For in Your Social Media Polls

One of the fun things we can do on social media today is ask our audience a question in a poll. We can ask, what’s their favorite color. We can find out if they like short videos or long videos! And more importantly, polls can be a lot of fun and they can increase engagement with our followers because everyone likes to voice their opinion! If you keep the poll short and simple enough as long as people see it they will probably vote one way or the other. That’s why yes or no polls work well!  But there are times when polling our audience can get us into trouble. Find out why you need to be careful what you ask your audience on social media! You can show your support for this podcast!
