Authors: Oriana Fox with Martha Wilson
Description: This episode features an interview from Oriana's archive - a 2016 discussion with feminist art foremother Martha Wilson whose audacious work explores appearance and subjectivity through self-representation, both live and to camera. Wilson's important work provocatively teases out the relationship between the personal, the institutional and the political to question gendered double standards. Making art in the context of the 1970s when Wilson first started, entailed acting as if she had the confidence to take on the identity of artist, despite creativity being misunderstood to be a male-only pursuit. Galvanised by her detractors instead of discouraged, Wilson's method of faking it to make it, as Oriana points out, is similar to a therapeutic tactic called 'shame attacking'. Therefore, the two discuss the potential for critical, feminist performance art to breed confidence, that is, if artists commit, as Wilson has done, to being anything but pleasant. Martha Wilson is a pioneering feminist artist and gallery director, who over the past five decades created innovative photographic and video works that explore her female subjectivity through role-playing, costume transformations, and “invasions” of other people’s personae. As Founding Director Emerita of Franklin Furnace in New York, she continues to help run the artist-run organization whose stated mission is to make the world a safe place for avant-garde art. Oriana Fox is a London-based, New York-born artist with a PhD in self-disclosure. She puts her expertise to work as the host of the talk show performance piece The O Show.Credits:Produced, edited and hosted by Oriana FoxOriginal theme song written and performed by Paulette HumanbeingBackground music loop by Teddybeast6Special Thanks to Lara Perry, Sven Van Damme, Katie Beeson and Janak PatelPhoto of Martha Wilson by Sara KaplanSend us a textVisit www.theoshow.live for regular updates or follow us on Instagram.

Authors: Oriana Fox with Charlotte Warne Thomas
Description: Oriana interviews artist Charlotte Warne Thomas about the insights gleaned from the research report she was commissioned to write on the precarious and often unpaid nature of artists' labour. Charlotte shares the impact that research has had on her art practice, which explores the relationships between labour, care and value. She delves into the ideologies behind the notions of meritocracy, 'labours of love' and talent. Matters of uncomfortable self-disclosure, specifically around privilege checking are also discussed. Lastly, the conversation turns to Charlotte's self-presentation online and the admirable frankness with which she discusses her challenges juggling the demands of being an artist, parent, researcher and teacher, as well as her recent bout with breast cancer.Charlotte Warne Thomas is a London-based artist and Fine Art PhD candidate at Kingston University’s Contemporary Art Research Group (CARG), funded by AHRC doctoral training partner Techne. Authors: Oriana Fox with Nando Messias
Description: Oriana speaks with artist Nando Messias about the hypervisibility of their trans-feminine identity, the risks this entails and how it informs their work in the medium of performance. Nando Messias is a Brazilian-born, London-based performance artist, actor, and academic working between art, dance, theater, and queer theory. Their performances combine beauty with a fierce critique of gender, visibility, and violence. Messias has performed in the UK and internationally, at venues such as The Royal Court, Hayward Gallery, V&A, Tate Britain, Roundhouse, Royal Vauxhall Tavern, and ICA. Description: Oriana Fox interviews artist Chinasa Vivian Ezugha about her recent projects and the role her early work and upbringing in Nigeria have played in encouraging her political voice. Fittingly, she is currently developing an ambitious, multidisciplinary project speaking out against the use of food scarcity as a weapon of war; and is culminating her practical and doctoral research on glossolalia. Importantly, she also discusses her tenure as co-director of the Live Art Development Agency in London and the lessons she gleaned about creating safe spaces and the personal boundaries required to enable them. Chinasa Vivian Ezugha is a Nigerian-born, British performance artist, scholar and PhD candidate at University of Exeter, United Kingdom. Currently, she is the Assistant Professor of Live Art/Art as Social Practice at New York University, Abu Dhabi. Authors: Oriana Fox
Description: Artist Chinasa Vivian Ezugha discusses the performance piece Because of Hair, which was a springboard to her career as a performance artist and an activist. The piece entailed covering her face with a hair mask she had constructed as a sculptural object that, when worn, functioned as a catalyst for interpersonal and affective exchange, prompting myriad and often disturbingly violent reactions. Because of Hair reflects Ezugha's understanding of the politics of hair from her perspective as an Igbo woman living in Britain and also prompted her to make new work about the Biafran war, which deeply impacted her family. In other words, the interview explores how self-exposing performance art not only overlaps the personal with the political but also fosters the artist's confidence to have a political voice. This interview was carried out in 2017 as part of Oriana's research for her Phd on risky self-disclosure in performance art. Recently, Oriana has done a follow-up interview with Ezugha which will drop in two weeks. Chinasa Vivian Ezugha is a Nigerian-born, British performance artist, scholar and PhD candidate at University of Exeter, United Kingdom. Authors: Oriana Fox and Guest Felicity Allen
Description: Oriana interviews artist Felicity Allen who explains the neologism disoeuvre which she coined to describe her own artistic practice as distinct from a progressive, linear oeuvre associated with so-called 'real artists'. A disoeuvre stretches to encompass what is traditionally excluded from an artist's body of work, i.e. work carried out in institutions and the home, reflecting the adaptability of the practitioner as she responds to the demands of life. The sought-after 'real' artist's oeuvre commands increasing acclaim, while those artists impacted by precarity and contingency experience recognition only sporadically. Thus the discussion turns to these tender and sensitive topics. Felicity Allen produces work often collaboratively and over time, in various forms, from painting, writing, print, film and pedagogy as media. Description: In this long-awaited final episode of Multiple O's Season 2, Oriana shares an old recording from one of the first performances of The O Show. It features Scottee, our national treasure of live art, podcasting and yoga instruction, confessing to his deep-seated and debilitating academia-phobia. [Spoiler alert: It's not actually a phobia!] Angela shares some sage advice with Scottee and anyone else who suffers from self-doubt, especially in the arena of the intellect. Scottee is a self-taught, multi-award-winning actor who has received critical acclaim for his work in theatre and audio. Authors: Oriana Fox and guest Ann Hirsch
Description: Oriana Fox interviews the artist Ann Hirsch whose video and performance art practice entails participant observation within myriad mediated contexts. For her project entitled Scandalishious, Hirsch became a YouTube camwhore with over two million video views and then made an appearance as a contestant on Frank the Entertainer…In a Basement Affair on Vh1. Much has changed since that pioneering YouTube work, which was made back in 2008 when the platform had only just begun. While it’s much more commonplace now for a woman to explore her sexuality online and be taken seriously as a complex human being, the power dynamics at play are still locked and in need of dismantling. The pace of change is both intensely fast and heartbreakingly slow within digital capitalism. Also discussed in this candid interview is Hirsch's recent work as a male alter ego; her musical about academia; and her prophecy that every woman will show her vagina on the internet This interview was recorded live on Instagram in May 2021 as part of Oriana's digital residency at Mimosa House Gallery. Description: In this brand new interview with the artist and author Dawn Woolley, we discuss her brand new book Consuming the body: Capitalism, Social Media and Commodification published by Bloomsbury on 6 Oct 2022. The book is a sociological study of contemporary consumerism and the commodified construction of ideal gendered bodies, paying particular attention to the new forms of interaction produced by social networking sites. In short, there’s a lot of analysis of the phenomenon of the selfie. The book describes the behaviours of an ideal neoliberal subject, that is, the type of person produced by the current form of capitalism – the kind of capitalism that promotes competitive individualism and defines human worth in solely economic terms. In this context, Woolley identifies the sadistic demands the market makes of us, which is how we are transformed into self-disciplining subjects, but importantly, she also highlights forms of pleasure and opportunities for subversion. Oriana Fox is a London-based, New York-born artist with a PhD in self-disclosure. She puts her expertise to work as the host of the talk show performance piece The O Show.Dawn Woolley is an artist and academic whose work examines representations of gender in adverts, magazines, on TV and online in order to appropriate their visual language and expose the stereotypes they reproduce. In 2017 Woolley's photograph The Substitute (holiday) was designated the world's best selfie by GQ magazine, after winning Saatchi gallery's from selfie to self-expression competition. Woolley is also a research fellow at Leeds Art University. The book launch event is Friday, 21 Oct, 5.30 - 7 pm at Leeds Art University or online, book here. Authors: Oriana Fox with guest Ania Bas
Description: This episode contains a freshly recorded conversation with Ania Bas, a hard-working Polish Artist-turned-Author (based in the UK). Her debut novel Odd Hours revolves around a prickly female protagonist who works in a well-lit, unethical supermarket and lives in a badly-lit zone 3 flatshare. The book contains unidealised migrants, a self-help book-within-a-book, short and sharp poetry and some saucy scenes. The elevator pitch reads: "Odd Hours is a whip-smart social comedy for those of us who feel that life is a game where someone else has stolen the rules." Ania Bas is certainly someone who is living life by her own rules, transitioning mid-career from a socially engaged artist to a novelist. Oriana asks about that transition, the book itself and the important links between Bas's visual arts practice and her writing. Oriana Fox is a London-based, New York-born artist with a PhD in self-disclosure. She puts her expertise to work as the host of the talk show performance piece The O Show.Ania Bas is an artist and writer whose work explores how narratives shape understanding, mythology and knowledge of places and people. Her work takes diverse forms to create situations that support dialogue and question existing frameworks of participation. Description: 🏳️🌈 In honour of pride month, I'm sharing the interview I did with Jacqui Bardelang, the performer behind drag king Sigi Moonlight. Bardelang speaks about the various personas Moonlight encompasses and the way they subvert binary gender norms and racial stereotypes through seduction. Counterintuitively, Bardelang has gotten more in touch with her feminine side through drag kinging. We also discuss pronouns and the ups and downs of female masculinity on stage and off, from being the object of pansexual desire to being misgendered. Description: Oriana Fox meets The Golden Brown Girls, Indrani Ashe and Shannon Tamara Lewis to discuss the imagined futures that their eponymously titled web series presents. Grey-haired, witty and optimistic, their older selves live out a fantasy that is in distinct contrast to their lived reality in an age of austerity. Ashe and Lewis also discuss the show’s centring of women of colour protagonists. Finally, the three arrive at a plan for a future episode in which Oriana will play a cameo appearance. This interview was recorded live on Instagram in May 2021 as part of Oriana's digital residency at Mimosa House Gallery. You can watch the original video here. Oriana Fox is a London-based, New York-born artist with a PhD in self-disclosure. Soon after they invited another artist, Sara Umar to write herself into the script. It's now a growing network of women and creative professionals from across the globe with individual and collaborative practices. Their web series was envisioned as a method of imagining the artists' futures, a stage for their political concerns and a way to create new social structures with like-minded individuals. Indrani Ashe is a US-born, Goldsmiths-educated, Berlin-based interdisciplinary artist of Bengali and white American descent whose practice speaks to the experience of the body as a political vessel, wresting the narrative from hegemonical structures. Authors: Oriana Fox and guest Hannah Ballou
Description: This episode is a double feature as it includes not one but two interviews Oriana carried out with the performance artist Hannah Ballou. Last year, Oriana spoke with Ballou after she had just completed filming Goo:Ga II, itself a sequel to her 2015 feminist live art comedy show Goo: Ga I, which playfully subverted the gender reveal party and announced the sex of her first child, a much-desired daughter. As Ballou explains, she always wanted to do a follow-up show. But due to Covid, Goo:Ga II had to be staged in an empty theatre for the camera. The hilarity of the first performance continues in the film sequel as a heavily pregnant Ballou, accompanied by her now 5-year old daughter in matching leopard-print bikinis, takes us through a vibrant dance routine, replete with a giant yoga ball that Ballou vogues with, making a spectacle of her bump, Meghan Markle-style. The mood swiftly changes though, as we learn that the gender binary paradigm is the least of this fetus' problems since being diagnosed with a very rare heart anomaly. The mood of Goo ga II darkens as Ballou grapples to keep hope at bay, not knowing if the pregnancy will come to term. It's a film that will literally make you laugh and cry. Oriana's follow-up interview with Ballou, which took place recently, i.e. 7 months after the first, finds Ballou with the relief of her baby boy alive and thriving, and with a string of upcoming film screenings to plug. The first interview was recorded live on Instagram in May 2021 as part of Oriana's digital residency at Mimosa House Gallery. You can watch the episode here. ***Tickets to the next screening of Goo:Ga II at Colchester Arts Centre on 4 May 2022 can be booked here.***Oriana Fox is a London-based, New York-born artist with a PhD in self-disclosure. Description: This episode is an interview that Oriana carried out in the summer of 2017 with the artist Katherine Araniello. Sadly, Araniello passed away in February 2019, but she leaves behind a rich body of work that is politically fearless and infused with subversive humour, some of which is excerpted and contextualised in this episode. Her videos and performances often entailed self-representation, but in forms that were never earnest or preachy, instead they aimed to provoke and challenge. Satire, personas, absurdity, deadpan delivery and playing the victim were some of Araniello's key tools. The discussion focuses on how these play out across various works including her vlogs, her public interventions addressing assisted suicide and her crowd-funding campaign aimed at producing a professional music video for her song "Miracle of life". In this way, the conversation also inevitably touches upon the representations of disability that Araniello's work rallied against and her nonconformist appearance in everyday life. Spoiler alert: we talk at length about her hairdo!Dr Oriana Fox is a London-based, New York-born artist with a PhD in self-disclosure. She puts her expertise to work as the host of the talk show performance piece The O Show.Katherine Araniello (b. 1965, d. 2019, London) was a live art, performance and video artist. Authors: Oriana Fox with guest Nina Power
Description: In this episode, I speak with philosopher Nina Power, author of One-Dimensional Woman (2009) whose upcoming book playfully asks "What do men want?" in a nod to Freud's famous question. In this discussion, Power sheds light on her research into the manosphere, in addition to touching upon her experience of being cancelled for her views on sex and gender. My main focus, however, was to find out if and how her research on men might relate to and expand on a past live episode of The O Show entitled "Time's up, penis down: Masculinity, sexuality and #metoo", which explores the ethics of desire and the shaming of men. As the conversation unfolds, Power decries the male suicide rate as a collective stain on our morality and sheds light on the appeal of Jordan Peterson. Political battles including the so-called 'battle of the sexes' (or should it be genders?) are all too often approached as zero-sum games with winners and losers. Seeking to undermine this tendency and find new solutions to shared problems is imperative, especially in light of the extreme polarisation in our contemporary moment. But it's impossible to make this move without actually talking to people with whom you disagree. In addition to this being a topic Power and I address, it also serves to explain my rationale, if you're wondering why I'm talking to someone who has been labelled a terf (trans exclusionary radical feminist). Oriana Fox is an artist with a PhD in self-disclosure. She puts her expertise to work as the host of the talk show performance piece The O Show, which has been filmed in a variety of London locations including Tate Britain, Town Hall Hotel, The Hackney Showroom and The AllBright. Nina Power is a cultural critic, social theorist, philosopher and translator. She was a senior lecturer in philosophy at Roehampton University. Her book What do men want? is due for publication by Penguin in 2022. Authors: Oriana Fox and guest Season Butler
Description: Oriana continues the interview begun on The O Show live edition on Instagram with the artist and author Season Butler. In that initial discussion, they spoke about the racial empathy bias, climate change and Bill Cosby, each of which has played a key part in Butler’s work. However, they both regretted not getting to discuss their shared passion for The Little Mermaid in all its incarnations. So here they jump straight in with an analysis of varied versions including the original Danish folktale, Disney’s animation and Splash from the perspective of two grown women for whom these narratives played a formative role. In this way, the conversation begins with the topic of boundary-crossing and then unfolds and meanders to address race, addiction, coming of age, the role that community plays in one’s tastes and self-judgments, as well as the end of the world, themes dealt with in Butler’s debut novel Cygnet. Toward the very end, they touch upon topics that are more central to the focus of this podcast series, that is, the risks and benefits of using one’s self and life experiences as the fodder for creative work, about which Butler provides a unique perspective.Oriana Fox is an artist with a PhD in self-disclosure. Authors: Oriana Fox and guest Jaye McBride
Description: Jaye McBride is proudly transgender, yet self-deprecating humour is her stock and trade. In this candid interview, McBride discusses riding that line as well as the ups and downs of being an out trans woman comic, the doors that open while others shut; the fact that all her material is read as trans; and being told by liberal audiences that she shouldn't use the word 'tranny'. Her comedy undoubtedly puts her at risk of being haggled and trolled, but importantly it also offers her the chance to tell her story and to raise awareness of trans issues. Fittingly, McBride's motto is a quote from Margaret Wheatley: "you can't hate someone whose story you know". If you want more of Oriana and Jaye in conversation, check out the follow-up interview on Instagram. Oriana Fox is an artist with a PhD in self-disclosure. Authors: Oriana Fox with guest Ope Lori
Description: Not only is the artist and businesswoman Ope Lori an expert in the politics of looking and desire, but she gets turned on by her own work. In this durational interview, Oriana Fox asks Lori about the lessons learned from making work that addresses the intersections of race and gender, and about how that has impacted her life and career. In this meandering discussion they touch upon the impact of the media and its stereotypes; the limits of the tactic of reversal towards genuine inclusion; the importance of language; guilty pleasures; cross-identification; porn; and fighting the myth of the suffering artist. They also discuss the path Lori followed in founding her very own consulting and training business PILAA (Pre-Image Learning and Action). Through it, Lori puts the expertise gleaned from her practice-based research as an artist to work for the greater good. In this way, she follows the motto coined by Jack Halberstam in Gaga Feminism: “Know the game, be the game, play the game, change the game!” If you have ever questioned the wider use of art that addresses identity politics, then look no further than Ope Lori’s trailblazing work. Description: Oriana speaks with writer and filmmaker Juliet Jacques whose work poses a challenge to mainstream misunderstandings about trans lives. She has done this by putting her own stories in print through a blog in The Guardian, in her book Trans: A Memoir and through a new collection of short stories called Variations, which came out on 17 June. Speaking about her pivot to fiction, Jacques posits that telling a big lie, i.e. 'this is not true', has the benefit of allowing for but importantly not obliging truthfulness. Indeed, Jacques has disclosed a lot, but she is also quite particular about where she draws the line. To give some examples, she starts her memoir with a vivid account of her surgical transition and she's happy to disclose the circumstances under which she discovered that her clitoris worked, but she won't put her love life on the internet. So if you're curious to understand the rationale behind these choices, take a listen. Oriana Fox is an artist with a PhD in self-disclosure. Description: Oriana continues her conversation with sociologist and coach Jo Van Every who wrote the book Refusing to be a wife: Heterosexual women changing the family. In the previous episode, Oriana spoke with Van Every at length about the personal choices she has made to live up to her feminist values in the domestic sphere, informed by her research into anti-sexist living arrangements. Their conversation continues here with Van Every explaining her views on the Tories; the pandemic; homeschooling; doggy daycare; and the ways in which her ethos informs her work as a coach. In this way, they explore the space between personal agency and structural contexts, and while Van Every recognises the need for wider structural change, she asserts that we do not need to wait for them to happen for things to be better. Oriana Fox is an artist with a PhD in self-disclosure. Authors: Oriana Fox and guest Jo Van Every
Description: Oriana Fox interviews Jo Van Every, the sociologist and coach who wrote the book Heterosexual Women Changing the Family: Refusing to be a wife. The research that informed the book was prompted by the kinds of personal questions that come from being disillusioned with ‘little girl’s dreams’ about love, marriage and family. Although the book was published in 1995, the research contained therein about anti-sexist living arrangements informed Van Every’s commitment to do feminism in her daily life, not just theorise about it. In other words, it’s been her durational project for the past 26 years! So Oriana is catching up with Van Every because she’s got some questions (not to mention disillusionment) of her own about living a feminist life. For example, does being financially dependent on a man render a woman a bad feminist? Must imbalances in earnings be made up for by doing a bigger share of domestic work? Perhaps most importantly, how can women value their labour when society doesn’t? And finally, can Jo's advice actually resolve the one fight that Oriana and her partner continue to have ad infinitum? Listen and find out the answers to these and many more questions because the personal is as political as ever. Oriana Fox is an artist with a PhD in self-disclosure. Authors: Oriana Fox with guest Lois Weaver
Description: Mentioned spontaneously by two prior guests in this very podcast series, the influential and pioneering performance artist and professor Lois Weaver needs no introduction. Yet Oriana provides a very lengthy one at the start of this interview with Weaver in which they discuss her alter ego, Tammy Whynot, who decided to stop being a country and western singer in order to start being a lesbian performance artist. In Weaver’s own words, Tammy’s “sense of wonder and her ability to fail gloriously and without shame were her superpowers. Tammy’s wisdom of ‘why not?’ gave the definition she had been searching for: resistant femme = a highly competent woman who just looks like she needs help.” Having performed the role of resistant femme (among others) for decades now, Weaver shares her thoughts on femininity; falling in love (with your work); the challenges of autobiographical performance; Split Britches’ most recent piece Last Gasp; public engagement; orgasms into later life; and finally retiring on the topic of retirement. Dr Oriana Fox is a London-based, New York-born artist with a PhD in self-disclosure. She puts her expertise to work as the host of the talk show performance piece The O Show.Dr Lois Weaver is the director and co-founder (with long-time collaborator Peggy Shaw) of the company Split Britches, which among many accolades, won the Innovative Theatre Awards (USA) Lifetime Artistic Achievement Award in 2017. So many awards! In 2014 she was a Guggenheim fellow in 2014 and shortly thereafter a Wellcome Trust Engaging Science Fellow. She got the WOW Women in Creative Industries ‘Fighting the Good Fight’ award in 2018. And, the honours keep rolling in... Most recently in 2021 Split Britches’ theatre-piece-cum-zoom-film Last Gasp has been nominated for the Drama League award for Outstanding Digital Production. Authors: Oriana Fox with guest Harold Offeh
Description: Oriana speaks with the artist Harold Offeh whose practice engages with identity politics via an ambivalent and humorous self-casting within the pop-cultural material he admires (and in some cases, finds problematic). He pre-empts his own type-casting by pointedly living within certain racialised stereotypes including the Mammy, an Afro-Brazilian manual labourer and a toilet attendant. The discussion touches upon a range of topics such as cultural appropriation; national identity and belonging; decolonising the curriculum; and the undervaluing of the formal qualities of feminist and anti-racist art. Description: Curious about heterosexual dating habits in the age of the internet? Want to hear about it from the perspective of a feminist artist? Look no further! Oriana speaks with artist Indrani Ashe whose project 50 Dates of Grey documented her search for a man to spend her life with, to marry in fact, via online dating platforms. Unbeknownst to the men Indrani was seeing, she kept a blog under the pseudonym Unconventional Woman where she critiqued and vented about her experiences. Gossiping about this project with Oriana for this podcast six years later, having found love and steady employment, Indrani throws into sharp relief the economics of desire and the way that shame functions as a tool for social control. Dr Oriana Fox is a London-based, New York-born artist with a PhD in self-disclosure. Authors: Oriana Fox and guest Charlotte Cooper
Description: Should you embrace your curves by smearing yourself in Dove products, or drink slimfast and chase the thin dream? Either way, the same giant corporation will benefit. Do what you need to do, but listen to this podcast too! Oriana talks with the artist, psychotherapist and fat activist Charlotte Cooper, who is an outlier in every field in which she takes part. They discuss what it takes to keep doing your thing and valuing it and yourself along the way, despite reactions ranging from indifference to intolerance and hate. Cooper, who considers her psychotherapy practice to be revolutionary, advises that compassion is necessary to the creative process. Dr Oriana Fox is a London-based, New York-born artist with a PhD in self-disclosure. She puts her expertise to work as the host of the talk show performance piece The O Show .Charlotte Cooper is an artist, writer, psychotherapist and activist. It seems like there’s nothing she doesn’t do; she dances, makes music, produces zines and genealogies. She has collaborated with an enviable list of artists and most prominently with her girlfriend Kay Hyatt. The two perform as Homosexual Death Drive, a genre-defying band with irreverent lyrics and eye-popping music videos. Cooper's decades-long work on fat, like her performance practice, defies categorisation. A new edition of her book Fat Activism: A Radical Social Movement, will be available in June 2021. Authors: Oriana Fox and guest, Joshua Sofaer
Description: In this interview with the artist Joshua Sofaer, Oriana asks for his help in finding her purpose, her why. He is, after all, a socially engaged artist who is deeply invested in turning life into art because art makes life more interesting than art. And, he's also a relational dynamics coach and Oriana pays for his services from time to time. They also discuss the possibility of breaking into the mainstream simply by imitating the trappings of fame. But that is not all! Tune in to get the scoop on self-help, self-exposure, doubt and boilerplate definitions.Dr Oriana Fox is an artist with a PhD in self-disclosure. She puts her expertise to work as the host of the talk show performance piece The O Show . Joshua Sofaer is an artist who is centrally concerned with modes of collaboration and participation, which he explores through social sculpture, performance, installation, exhibition and publication. Equally as comfortable in the clean white gallery, the dramatic stage of the opera house, the carefully positioned vitrine of the museum, the shared areas of public space, and the domestic personalised rooms of private homes, what draws Sofaer’s diverse practices together is a concern with how audiences engage with the world as a place of potentiality. “Art is what makes life more interesting than art” is a quote from the Fluxus artist Robert Filliou, which he gave originally in French as, “L’art est ce qui rend la vie plus intéressante que l’art”.The O Show "Business or Pleasure?" episode discussed on this podcast is available to watch on Oriana's website and youtube channel.Artists mentioned in this podcast: Shobana Jeyasingh, Gavin Turk, Robert Filliou, Stacy Makishi, Hamja Ahsan, Jeremy Deller, Miranda July and Lois Weaver [FYI: Lois will be interviewed on an upcoming episode of this very podcast series]Cultural figures who have become famous and made a lot of money after doing TED talks mentioned in this podcast: Brené Brown, Simon Sinek and Ruby Wax (well, she was famous before her TED talk, to be fair)Credits:Hosted, edited and produced by Oriana FoxPost-production mixing by Stacey HarveyThemesong written and performed by Paulette HumanbeingSpecial thanks to Katie Beeson, Janak Patel, Sven Olivier Van Damme and the Foxes and Hayeses. Description: Oriana interviews Hamja Ahsan, leader of the introvert revolution. They discuss their mutual affliction, shyness. Or is it in fact their superpower?
