Season 8, William Bonin, Episode 7 "Will You Take Me To Disneyland?"

William Bonin. The Freeway Killer. The winter of 1979 is about to get a lot darker. In this episode, Tony Ciaglia ,The Serial Killer Whisperer,  and his father Al walk you through the brutal final weeks of 1979 and into the blood-soaked opening days of 1980, as Bonin accelerates his killing with terrifying speed. Victims 8 through 13 — Frank Dennis Fox, John Kilpatrick, Mike McDonald, Charles Miranda, James McCabe, and Ronald Gatlin,  each story more devastating than the last. But this episode goes somewhere most true crime podcasts never can. Tony plays never-before-heard recorded phone calls from accomplice Gregory Miley — in his own words, in his own voice describing what happened inside that van. Flat. Casual. Remorseless.Twelve-year-old James McCabe just wanted a ride to Disneyland. Charles Miranda, 14, was standing on a street corner. Within 24 hours, both were gone. And then  impossibly the system had Bonin in custody and let him walk. Twenty-eight days later, he killed again. This one is not easy to listen to. Season 8, William George Bonin, Episode 6: "A Kid On a Bike"

The freeway never sleeps in Southern California and neither did William Bonin. This week, Tony and Al pull back the curtain on the Freeway Killer and the Murder Van that became a rolling chamber of horrors on the highways of Los Angeles. They break down the chilling details of how Bonin hunted, who he hunted, and  most disturbingly, who helped him do it. Tony shares never-before-heard audio from his personal phone calls with accomplices Greg Miley and James Munro, and the two men tell very different stories. One honest. One not. At the center of it all is seventeen-year-old David Louis Murillo a kid on a bike on an ordinary Tuesday who never made it home. His story, and the stories of Robert Wirostek and an unidentified victim whose name has never been recovered, demand to be told. This one hits hard. Remember the victimsWe willStandard Legal Disclaimer for Murder Phone:“The content of this podcast, including all phone calls, interviews, and original commentary, is the exclusive property of Murder Phone Podcasts, You Tube Video,Ciaglia Productions and Murder Phone LLC and any and all Murder Phone Productions. Season 8 William George Bonin Episode 5 “The Freeway Killer And Monsters Who Rode Along”

William Bonin wasn’t the only monster inside the Murder Van.In Episode 5 of Murder Phone, we dive into the twisted world of the accomplices who didn’t just witness the horror — they became part of it. Men like Vernon Butts, a predator who needed no corruption, and Gregory Miley, a seemingly normal young man who climbed into Bonin’s orbit and slowly transformed into something terrifying. This episode follows the brutal escalation of violence as 17-year-old Markus Grabs, far from his home in West Germany, crossed paths with the Freeway Killer. Seventy-seven stab wounds later, another life was discarded along the California highways. But this isn’t just the story of William Bonin.t’s the story of weak men, broken men, willing men — shadows standing beside pure evil.We examine how Gregory Miley allegedly evolved from troubled follower to active participant in murders involving children like Charles Miranda and James McCabe, embracing Bonin’s infamy like a badge of honor. And then came the moment that should have ended everything.August 9th, 1979. Bonin was arrested again — caught molesting a 17-year-old boy in Dana Point. A blatant parole violation. A guaranteed return to prison.Except it wasn’t.The Monster slipped through the cracks AGAIN!Standard Legal Disclaimer for Murder Phone:“The content of this podcast, including all phone calls, interviews, and original commentary, is the exclusive property of Murder Phone Podcasts, You Tube Video,Ciaglia Productions and Murder Phone LLC and any and all Murder Phone Productions. Season 8 William Bonin The Freeway Killer Episode 4 "The Freeway Killer's Most Disturbing Accomplice — Vernon Butts

Tony and Al turn their attention to Vernon Butts, one of the most disturbing accomplices in the William Bonin murder spree. Known as the Freeway Killer, Bonin didn't always act alone — and Butts stands out as one of the most unsettling figures in his orbit. This episode features a chilling audio conversation with James Munro, another accomplice who knew Butts personally. Munro offers a haunting firsthand account of Bonin's transformation during his crimes, describing how Bonin's entire demeanor would shift — his appearance and eyes changing into something unrecognizable, almost crazed. Munro also paints a vivid and deeply unsettling portrait of Butts himself: a towering 6'4" figure who didn't just assist in the killings — he relished them.Tony then walks listeners through the first two murders committed by Bonin and Butts together — the deaths of Thomas Lundgren and Mark Shelton. Two victims. Two lives cut short. And as Tony makes clear, it was only the beginning.Standard Legal Disclaimer for Murder Phone:“The content of this podcast, including all phone calls, interviews, and original commentary, is the exclusive property of Murder Phone Podcasts, You Tube Video,Ciaglia Productions and Murder Phone LLC and any and all Murder Phone Productions. Season 8 William George Bonin, The Freeway Killer. Episode 3 – “Stamped Safe, Set Loose, Proven Deadly”

Bonin came back from war in 1968… but whatever returned wasn’t the same man.William Bonin walked into California colder, emptier—like something had hollowed him out and left the shell behind. His family saw it in his eyes. Not pain. Not trauma. Something darker. Something waiting. Then the frenzy began.Five boys. Abducted. Assaulted. Discarded. Not a spree. Not even chaos. This was a predator off the leash, sloppy, reckless, escalating. And for one brief, fragile moment, the system actually caught him. This should’ve been the end. A cell. A lock. Silence.Instead? They studied him. Labeled him. Diagnosed him like a specimen on a slide. Manic depression. Sexual sadism. Antisocial.A stack of clinical terms trying, and failing to explain a human void. At Atascadero State Hospital, they didn’t stop him. They paused him. Because monsters don’t heal… they wait.By 1974, the same system that saw everything, every warning sign, every victim, stamped him safe and opened the door. And Bonin stepped back into the world, ready to hunt.Arrested again, he didn’t deny it. He smirked.“Next time, there won’t be any living witnesses.”Still no life sentence. Still no real consequences.By 1977, he was out. Again. Eighteen months probation. That’s it.He buys a van. He starts recruiting. And what comes next, Isn’t a spree. It’s not even madness. It’s method. And that’s when the killing starts!Standard Legal Disclaimer for Murder Phone:“The content of this podcast, including all phone calls, interviews, and original commentary, is the exclusive property of Murder Phone Podcasts, You Tube Video,Ciaglia Productions and Murder Phone LLC and any and all Murder Phone Productions. Join host Tony Ciaglia and his father Al as they descend into William Bonin’s time in Vietnam.December 1966. Bonin doesn’t enlist for honor—he enlists because someone thinks the military can fix him. It can’t. Because Bonin is already broken. Before the uniform—before Vietnam—he’s already fantasizing about rape. About murder. Then comes the theft arrest. Charges disappear. Not because he’s innocent—but because the system has a better idea.Ship him to war. Vietnam doesn’t create the monster. It gives him permission.Strapped to the open belly of a helicopter… machine gun in hand… 700 hours of combat…Bonin doesn’t just survive the chaos—He thrives in it. Power, Control. Life and death at his fingertips.Because war doesn’t ask questions. It buries them. And Bonin learns the most dangerous lesson of all: You can do anything… and walk away clean. He wasn’t alone. Shawcross. Berkowitz. Gacy. Kraft.Different names. Same pattern. Warning signs ignored. Darkness documented, then dismissed. Stamped, Filed, Forgotten. Season 8 William George Bonin, The Freeway Killer. Episode 1: “Groomed by Monsters: Bonin Before the Freeway.”

Before the headlines. Before the handcuffs. Before the bodies…There was a childhood shaped by violence, neglect, and unchecked warning signs that were impossible to ignore—yet ignored anyway. This season exposes not only the making of a killer, but the system that failed to stop him.And again exclusively,  Murder Phone brings you something few ever hear: real conversations with Bonin’s accomplices.Greg Miley and James Munro weren’t just witnesses. They rode in the van. They heard the screams. They were there.Through firsthand accounts and chilling insight, we explore what they called “cruising sessions”—a deceptively casual term for something far more sinister: hunting, trapping, and destroying innocent lives. In the shadowy annals of true crime, few names evoke the same level of horror as William Bonin. Season 7 Slipping Through the Cracks of Justice Part 18 “Arthur John Shawcross: “Visit With a Monster”

In this unforgettable episode of Murder Phone, Tony,The Serial Killer Whisperer, joins his brother Joey and their father Al on a journey into the heart of darkness: a face-to-face visit with Arthur John Shawcross in Fallsburg, New York. What they didn’t know at the time was that this visit took place exactly two months before Shawcross would drop dead, making this one of his final, unfiltered conversations on Earth.Inside that cold, echoing room, the trio dove straight into the grotesque depths of Shawcross’s mind. They talked about his crimes, life inside Sullivan Correctional, and even the notorious rumor that he once ate a vagina raw. Shawcross didn’t just confirm it, he demonstrated how he did it.But the real shift—the moment when the room’s temperature seemed to drop, came when Tony asked about the two children Shawcross murdered Shawcross froze… then cracked. His voice changed. His eyes went dead. And suddenly, everyone in that room understood the difference between seeing evil and feeling it breathe in front of you.As the visit wound down, Tony made a bold request: he asked Shawcross to write out detailed descriptions of every murder, in the killer’s own words. Arthur said, a lot of people asked before, and I turned them all down, but I’ll try and do it for you.”Before his death, Shawcross typed every account and mailed them to Tony. The final letter, his last communication with anyone, arrived on October 29th, 2008, containing the last murder description. That’s when Tony realized something chilling: Arthur John Shawcross, one of America’s most sadistic serial killers… actually considered him a friend.Standard Legal Disclaimer for Murder Phone:“The content of this podcast, including all phone calls, interviews, and original commentary, is the exclusive property of Murder Phone Podcasts, You Tube Video,Ciaglia Productions and Murder Phone LLC and any and all Murder Phone Productions. Season 7 Slipping Through the Cracks of Justice Part 17 “Caught Beneath the Bridge — Shawcross Meets Justice.”

October 1989: Rochester, New York. A body is found — Patricia Ives — and just like that, the mask of safety slips off the city’s face.Police quickly realize they aren’t dealing with a one-off killing. This is a pattern… the calling card of a predator.Victims, mostly sex workers. Strangled. Dumped near the river. Posed like trophies. And the man behind it? Arthur John Shawcross — a bloated, wandering nightmare who didn’t just kill… he escalated with every victim.Tony’s correspondence with Shawcross goes into gruesome detail about the hunting, torture and murder of these poor innocent women. In just three months, from September to December 1989, Shawcross slaughtered eight more women, bringing his tally to eleven in less than two years. And when he wasn’t murdering, he was grabbing a bite at his favorite restaurants, like a guy who thought brutality earned him a lunch break. This Murder Phone episode brings you onto the very streets where it all happened. You’ll hear about Tony’s 2010 trip to Rochester — the restaurants Shawcross haunted, the exact corner where he picked up June Cicero, and the bridge where he dumped her body after 24 hours of torture, and the sick moment he returned on January 3rd, 1990, when the police helicopter finally spotted him by the body. The hunt was over.  Shawcross’s little field trips to hell had come to an end.Standard Legal Disclaimer for Murder Phone:“The content of this podcast, including all phone calls, interviews, and original commentary, is the exclusive property of Murder Phone Podcasts, You Tube Video,Ciaglia Productions and Murder Phone LLC and any and all Murder Phone Productions. Season 7 Slipping Through the Cracks Of Justice Part 15: “ The Children of Watertown”

When Arthur Shawcross came home from Vietnam, the violence he unleashed overseas didn’t stay buried. In this chilling episode, you’ll hear about the day the nightmare began — April 7th, 1972 — when 10-year-old Jack Blake vanished after a “fishing trip” with the man he trusted. What Shawcross later confessed will shake you to your core — acts so depraved, so inhuman, they leave scars on the soul just to repeat them aloud.Months later, another child — 8-year-old Karen Ann Hill — was found raped, strangled, and dumped under a bridge like trash. The town demanded justice. The system offered a plea deal.Twenty-five years for manslaughter. Fifteen years served. And the killer of two children walked free. What follows is the real American horror story: psychiatric reports piling up like tombstones — each one warning that Arthur Shawcross was a ticking psychosexual time bomb. Every warning ignored. Every red flag buried.Because the day New York State opened that prison door… the countdown to Rochester began — and the Genesee River Killer was born.Standard Legal Disclaimer for Murder Phone:“The content of this podcast, including all phone calls, interviews, and original commentary, is the exclusive property of Murder Phone Podcasts, You Tube Video,Ciaglia Productions and Murder Phone LLC and any and all Murder Phone Productions. Arthur Shawcross was not born a monster—he was made. Forged in a house of sin, scarred by incest, violence, and a twisted childhood, then sharpened to a lethal edge in the jungles of Vietnam. But the most terrifying part of his story isn’t just what he became—it’s how the system had him in its grip… and let him go. Again and again. In this series, Tony Ciaglia, The Serial Killer Whisperer, takes you inside Shawcross’s own private writings—letters and journals he wrote exclusively for Tony—where he confesses to incest, atrocities in Vietnam, and the origins of his hunger to kill. You’ll hear how the state moved him like a venomous animal from town to town, hiding his past, until finally dropping him in Rochester, New York… a decision that left at least thirteen women dead. For the first time ever, Tony opens the vault on rare video footage—long thought lost—retracing Shawcross’s killing grounds in chilling detail. Slipping Through the Cracks of Justice Season 7, Part 13 – “Hell’s Timeline: The Final Chapter”

In this chilling conclusion of Hell’s Timeline, we expose the brutal truth the official record refuses to tell. David Gore and Fred Waterfield—Florida’s “Killing Cousins”—didn’t begin their slaughter in 1981, as the system claims. Their reign of terror started years earlier, in the mid-1970s, with warning signs flashing in neon.Survivors like Angela Hommell bravely named their attackers, but law enforcement dismissed her as a liar. Other victims fought to escape, reported the assaults, and still—nothing. Instead of stopping them, the system gave one of these predators a badge. From 1973 to 1983, a full decade of ignored red flags and missed opportunities left a trail of bodies across Florida. By the time Gore and Waterfield were finally caught, the ground was already soaked with innocent blood. This isn’t just a timeline. It’s proof of how justice failed at every turn. They could have been stopped—but they weren’t. And because of that, countless young women never came home.Standard Legal Disclaimer for Murder Phone:“The content of this podcast, including all phone calls, interviews, and original commentary, is the exclusive property of Murder Phone Podcasts, You Tube Video,Ciaglia Productions and Murder Phone LLC and any and all Murder Phone Productions. Slipping Through the Cracks of Justice Season 7 Part 12: Ghosts Beneath the Orange Groves

Beneath the sunlit rows of Florida’s orange groves, the ground still keeps its secrets. Some were dug up long ago. Others are ghosts—still waiting to be found, still whispering their stories. In this episode, we’re pulling one of those lost voices into the light: the story of Rose Two Trees. A daughter who vanished. A mother who refused to give up searching. And a confession that came not from rumor or suspicion—but from the killer’s own hand. But before we bring Rose’s tragic tale out of the shadows, we turn the spotlight on Fred Waterfield—the so-called “good cousin.” The family man. The one his relatives still defend as innocent, clinging to a fairy tale while the truth screams in their faces. Angela Hommell—the survivor who lived to tell the story—saw through his mask. David Gore—Fred’s own partner in crime—shredded it completely. Together, their words burn away every excuse, every lie, every scrap of the illusion that Fred Waterfield was anything other than what he really was: a predator, a sadist, and the leader of one of the most dangerous duos in American crime. This is a story of mothers and daughters. Of survival and silence. Of family loyalty twisted into denial. And of a confession so cold it leaves scars decades later. The ghosts beneath the orange groves are still waiting to be counted. This episode drags you straight into the abyss—into the sickening heart of David Gore’s own confession. You’ll hear the chilling account of The Tragic Story of Missy in Gore’s own words… a crime so vile, so monstrous, that I believe it sealed his fate on death row.For the first time, Gore lays bare how he and Fred Waterfield hunted their victims in the 1970s—how they lured them, tricked them, and killed far more than the courts ever proved. At least thirty souls lost, erased by predators who thought themselves untouchable.Be warned—this isn’t an easy listen. Some Murder Phone fans have said, “It’s too brutal.” And they’re right. It is brutal. But that’s the point. This is true crime in its rawest form. We don’t censor. We don’t sugarcoat. Season 7 Slipping Through The Cracks of Justice Part 8 John Wayne Gacy: “The Clown Is Dead… But the Network Lived On”

On May 10th, 1994, John Wayne Gacy was executed. But make no mistake — the real monster wasn’t buried with him. This episode uncovers the darker truth: Gacy wasn’t acting alone. Behind the clown was a network — a trafficking pipeline built by convicted pedophile John Norman, who ran child sex rings like corporate enterprises. Catalogs. Client lists. Systems. We follow the thread from Norman and the Delta Project, to Gacy’s inner circle — Philip Paske, David Cram, and Michael Rossi — all tied to a web of missing evidence, mysterious deaths, and silent immunity. And then... we connect it to Jeffrey Epstein. Different decade. Same playbook. Same vanishing client lists. The question no one wants to answer: Where are the clients? Because kids weren’t trafficked into thin air.The clown is gone. But he network,  still has a pulseStandard Legal Disclaimer for Murder Phone:“The content of this podcast, including all phone calls, interviews, and original commentary, is the exclusive property of Murder Phone Podcasts, You Tube Video,Ciaglia Productions and Murder Phone LLC and any and all Murder Phone Productions. Step inside the twisted world of John Wayne Gacy—a suburban home that looked ordinary on the outside but hid unimaginable horrors within. In this episode, Tony and Al dive into Gacy’s chilling methods: his Tiki Bar of terror, the “magic trick” handcuffs that became instruments of torture, and his monstrous transformation from jovial host to sadistic predator. You’ll hear survivor accounts that expose the darkness behind his grinning clown mask, and we’ll reveal how his young employee, David Cram, dug more than just trenches in Gacy’s crawl space—he dug graves. Jeffrey Rignall’s face was burned from chloroform, his eyes haunted with terror. He reported the nightmare — the torture — the agony. The police did nothing. Ignored him. Why? Because he was gay. But Jeffrey refused to be just another victim. He hunted his own monster — tracked the Oldsmobile to 8213 West Summerdale. Handed the police Gacy on a silver platter. And they charged Gacy… with assault and battery. No search. No real investigation. Just another failure in a twisted circus. And the Clown Show kept rolling. We began to investigate Ground Penetrating Radar and after much investigation and some disappointments we finally are able to rent a GPR device (Noggin 500) and return to Cape Cod in November of 2018.We retrace our earlier steps and spend 4 days formulating grids and soil slices. During these 4 days we were on the phone with experts in the field of GPR.  We had sent so many videos and images and had so many false alarms that we were getting discouraged. Finally on the 4th day we find an area that is as Hadden described it, and it is at a depth that makes sense. At this point we are pretty sure this is it, so we sent all the new images to Hans and waited to hopefully hear some positive news.We finally got the call we had been waiting for, Hans said, “after looking at your notes and the data from the GPR I’m sure you guys found what you were looking for.” It was music to our ears. After over two years, two trips to Cape Cod, and a whole lot of time, work and expense we finally found Hadden’s secret Root cellar. It was late in the day and the sun was going down. The fact that we were standing over the root cellar made the excitement almost unbearable, but at the same time foreboding. Standard Legal Disclaimer for Murder Phone:“The content of this podcast, including all phone calls, interviews, and original commentary, is the exclusive property of Murder Phone Podcasts, You Tube Video,Ciaglia Productions and Murder Phone LLC and any and all Murder Phone Productions. Season 6 Episode 5 The Hillside Stranglers “L.A. Women”

The year is 1976 and Kenny is 25 years old and moving away from mommy with a whole bunch of problems. Tony shares many phone conversations with Bianchi  covering his move to L.A. and his feelings about woman. These are all lies of course because Ken Bianchi has never revealed the real truth about the ruthless killer he is. As an adult Bianchi’s behavior had gotten worse. He has grown into a polished con man, a compulsive liar and a skilled manipulator.  Bianchi’s Anger and hatred of women stemmed from a variety of sources. Much of the rage was directed towards his own birth mother and his adoptive mother Frances for having told him who and what his biological mother was. Ken desperately wants to be a police officer for control purposes. He cries to his mommy and this leads to him moving to L.A. where cousin Angelo Buono promises he can get him on the force. Tony and Al cover the first two murders of the Hillside Stranglers, 20 year old Yolanda Washington and 15 year old Judy Miller. Season 6 Episode 4 Ken Bianchi: “The Demon Teeth of The Hillside Strangler”

Tony shares a phone clip with Bianchi’s mom that has never been revealed before. When Kenny was 4 or 5 he got 3 sets of front teeth. She asked the dentist if he would be a demon, and if he would go crazy later in life.Talk about foreshadowing isn’t it ironic that this guy truly is a demon.Bianchi’s adopted father Nick Bianchi died suddenly in 1965. It has been said that Frances made him wear his dads shoes to his funeral to symbolize that now he has to fill his father’s shoes.Tony shares a conversation with Ken were he fervently denies this even though Ken’s mom told Tony that it happened. Here’s where his psychopathy shows because Bianchi always wants to control the narrative. The internet drives him crazy because he’s a true  psychopath and he can’t control what’s being said, so he has to improvise whenever he can.Ken claims that Tony was duped into believing that a piece of art that he obtained was a forgery. Tony shows the artwork and reads the COA that is written and signed by Kenneth Bianchi in 1991 verifying that he was the artist. Once again Ken is shown to be a compulsive liar that lies even when he doesn’t have to. We know how bad Ken’s first 3 months were and now we will hear some of what the rest of his childhood was like. Tony will quote comments from some of the Medical reports that go back as far as the 1950s.  Here are a few examples:“The relationship between Ken and his adoptive mother was not normal”Ken Bianchi was a bed wetter and when he was taken to the hospital the first time a quote from the attending doctor read “Mother Needs Help”The worker went on to say“Mrs. Bianchi was unwilling to accept the possibility she as well as the boy might need psychiatric treatment rather than medical treatment.”We also learn that relationships were always a problem, Ken proposed to a girl named Susan in 1969 but she turns him down, so he marries Brenda Beck for a few months, but she doesn’t meet his standards. In 1971 Ken marries again but this time his wife leaves him after 8 months. The title of this episode is Ken Bianchi, “Nature or Nurtured?  Dr Jim Fallon does a great job explaining the differences between the two.Murderphoniacs can make up their own minds as to why he became the monster that he is.Standard Legal Disclaimer for Murder Phone:“The content of this podcast, including all phone calls, interviews, and original commentary, is the exclusive property of Murder Phone Podcasts, You Tube Video,Ciaglia Productions and Murder Phone LLC and any and all Murder Phone Productions. Season 6 Episode 2 Francis Bianchi “Loving Mother or Evil Step Mom”

This episode we are going back to Ken’s early years and we’ll see some of the reasons he turned out the way he did.Frances Bianchi and Tony became good friends so you will hear a lot of conversation from her during this season. As we get into the story we’ll see that it was a really complicated relationship between mother and son. A true Oedipus complex.Tony and Al think that this, along with his other childhood issues  really messed little Kenny up during his early years. Kenny’s birth mother was a 17 year old alcoholic sex worker. For the first 3 months baby Kenny was passed around, he was never held, taken care of or even loved a little bit. This is called Abandoned Baby Syndrome which is a terrible source of stress for infants. This along with the way Kenny was treated over the first 3 years of his life will carry over into adulthood and can’t be reversed. When they adopted Kenny at the age of 3 months Frances thought her prayers had been answered and she was overjoyed that she now had a son. However over the early years when the problems started mounting up, Frances was torn between being the overbearing doting mother and a strict disciplinarian.Standard Legal Disclaimer for Murder Phone:“The content of this podcast, including all phone calls, interviews, and original commentary, is the exclusive property of Murder Phone Podcasts, You Tube Video,Ciaglia Productions and Murder Phone LLC and any and all Murder Phone Productions.
