Music's Lost History

They were from the 1980's but do not call them a Hair Band. They do get credit for giving us a reason to turn down the volume and take in some great Rock listening.  Does that mean they get credit for inspiring MTV's Unplugged series?  

For some people getting rejected over and over never comes across as being that ticket to get out and stay out.  Then one night, an executive who had rejected him earlier caught his live show.  It changed the face of this genre of sound.  

Being an RVer I get it.  To live life totally away from freeways.  It was time to discover a place of peace without being crunched by huge numbers of people. Lets get Johnny Cash to sing it.  Yeah, it didn't happen.  This performer has made it a global anthem.  

Two things come from this song that seems to be promising forever love.  A son's nightly prayers and turning a womans hair green.  Why was it enough to call it Country Music's greatest love song?  

The song was and still is heavily influenced by the actions and reactions of real people who feel alone. Reaching beyond those moments of isolation brings together an invisible community that can serve as truly connecting during times of personal disconnection.

Three guys jamming out in the studio.  Then the words began to fly.  Song lyrics!  But what fruit are they talking about?  Is it west or east coast?  A love song that couldn't come across with a pop music flair.  

Written by the bands drummer who envisioned a connection with the bass player. It's a song about sex without mentioning one word or suggestion.

The critics called it Disco.  Mainly because of the firest ever use of a new electronic drum machine.  Fans labeled it Punk.  Oh really?  Cuz the band was hoping for Reggae.  

Two songs this time around.  The artist who was in a do or die situation and the ocean waves weren't enough to enlighten a Classic Rock favorite until he made a very important decision.  Then, Atlantic Records needed to get into the Blues game.  But it came with a request... make it up tempo.  The original songwriter didn't get to see his day in fame.  It was handed off to another man who opened many doors for millions of teens.  

He lies about love and women still couldn't keep away.  What kind of love are we talking about that seems to be falling under the category of emotional rescue?  

So many over the years have tied this classic rock piece to a tragic plane accident in 1977. That's not the real story.
