In the previous post, part 1, we saw that Neville Goddard and Bernardo Kastrup each arrived at the same foundational idea: what we take to be the physical world must actually be mental in nature. [update: re-edited] I see a certain affinity between the thought of Bernardo Kastrup and that of Neville Goddard. For example, he offers a rigorously argued case that, just as Neville contends, all is mental, not physical.Essentia Foundation course presented by Bernardo Kastrup - Analytic Idealism B Kastrup (2014) Why Materialism is BaloneyB Kastrup - home page

How to Use Hypnotic Rhythm
Hypnotic rhythm means the repetitive patterns in life which tend to engender fossilized habits of thought and feeling. Self-Teaching Works
1. Create a record of quality.2. Overcome self-doubt.3. Overcome fear of non-expertise.4. Self-teach through critical questioning.5. Self-teaching is continual refinement and culling.6. A record of quality preserves life-changing ideas against life’s onslaught.7. Real movement in life is not in time, but in quality of state.8. Discard the fallacies of age.9. The external world is really mind - an idea to explore via self-teaching.

You and Your World Are One
Our understanding of a key idea is limited by our habitual associations to it...1. I began this exploration in E02.2. CS Lewis: life in time and space is a gift -- and therefore it is in some sense a clever artificial arrangement.3. Continual alternation in life between inward focus/self-growth and outer doing and accomplishment.4. We don’t want to emphasize, but rather diminish the division between the psyche and the external world (see exercise in E20).5. Why is this division between internal and external so natural to us? a. We can’t accept that the vast complex external world is somehow us. b. We can’t accept basic unity with other people. c. We can’t accept the negative and evil parts of the world.6. Strangely enough, these objections can actually be answered as we continue to contemplate the paradoxical idea that the world is ourselves pushed out.7. Unity with others can be seen as a practical notion; yet in E26 the necessity of individuality is emphasized. 8. Although evil in the outer world is emanating from us, it is continually a question of what you accept as true.9. The background static of the mind results from being plugged into the unity of mind (the subconscious).10. But consciously, the elements of the mind are things to be selected and arranged as we wish. (See E05.)11. The quality of the ideas you have (E21) will determine what you encounter in the world.12. Throughout the series of 30 episodes to date, you will find: a. presentation of core ideas that Neville is offfering and an assessment of their value; b. interpretation and explanation of those ideas with references to other thinkers and traditions; c. practical exercises to overcome difficulties and to strive to internalize and live by the precepts of Neville Goddard.Thank you for your time and attention in listening to Neville On Fire.

The Law is Impersonal
A series of points regarding daily practice...1. “I don’t criticize; I don’t judge; I don’t complain.” Follow this, and save energy to be usefully redirected. 2. Single point of awareness, non-identification, opens a path of escape: you are not “that person”.3. Apply imagination to reach conscious solution: be self-persuaded as to your nature and identity.4. You might work better at night.5. This kind of experimentation is self-motivated learning; it engages the active mind.6. Now is the accepted time; the eternal present is waiting for you to move into the desired state.7. In earlier episodes we surmised Neville’s world view; we have a view of life and its conduct.8. We perceive that the universe responds with certainty; the law of conscious growth is impersonal.

The Poet's Protégé
Author, artist and the poet’s biographer Eustace Mullins relates his revealed truth. 1. Inspiration from E025: Ezra Pound.2. Follow up with his biographer: Eustace Mullins, Conversations with John F Kennedy.3. Two themes: metaphysics and personal instruction.4. Primacy of consciousness: humanity is asleep.5. Life is a sort of Purgatory (not an absolute notion).6. Collectivist groups.7. Paradoxical nature of groups, their activities and results. Institutional values of “the good”.8. Man requires for survival “the unremitting hostility of others”.9. Personal instructions: People seek unreality -- but escapism only creates more and greater problems.10. Is killing off your goals equivalent to suicide?11. “The individual” is a highly unique concept in itself.12. Man must be reminded of his own nature. 13. The life work of both the poet and his protege arrives at principles with strong parallels in Neville, Buddhism (Alan Watts’ view), and Fourth Way.Note:One should take critically epithets levelled at Ezra Pound and Eustace Mullins in conventional online sources. One must check the facts, notably that Pound and Mullns were condemned by, respectively, Alger Hiss and Dr. Otto John, two confirmed traitors. Hiss was found guilty of perjury regarding his treasonous activity in spying for Soviet Russia while working in the US administration. Intelligence chief Otto John burned the first edition, 10,000 copies, of Mullins' book on the Federal Reserve. The book burning took place in liberated (post-WWII) West Germany, shortly before the perpetrator Otto John defected to the Communist East. It was indeed their pioneering work (Pound as mentor and outspoken critic, Mullins as researcher and author) in exposing the precise origins, goals and activities of the Federal Reserve that earned them the wrath of the authorities.RESOURCESMullins, Eustace Conversations with John F Kennedy

The Way of the Poet
The poet and scholar Ezra Pound gives inspiration to overcome seeming defeat. 1. Essential assumption: “I am the creative source”. Doubt: Do I really believe this?2. Negative state surruptitiously engenders doubt, indecision, worry.3. Poet’s vision: I know who I am . Inspiration derived from example of Ezra Pound.4. Pound: background, history.5. His adopted mission to look into political/economic roots of war.6. His major work “Cantos”, and parallel example of modern art: direct experience.7. How can we take this artistic expression as instruction in the conduct of life?8. Do not be mesmerized by the narratives of popular culture and institutions.9. Is it nonsense? There is a consistent ethical position in the example of Ezra Pound.10. Neville’s similar message: Put aside all other processes; live by intent and imagination.11. Did Pound live by this ethos? Displayed unwavering presence of mind and courage.12. This is the example we need: “’inexhaustible resources of character” to meet adversity.RESOURCESMullins, Eustace (1961) This Difficult Individual, Ezra Pound

The Imagination is Therapeutic
The deliberate use of the imagination has a healing effect...1. Key revelation: deliberate engagement of imagination in speaking has healing effects.2. Nicoll: instructed by Gurdjieff that consciousness is healing in its effect.3. Neville: advocated “revision” -- to remake a past event to effect healing. Testimonials are published.4. Biblical quote: “My word shall not return unto me void.”_____5. Why don’t we use this faculty? We don’t have a balance in both hearing and expression.6. There is a spectrum: Unconscious/mechanical hearing and reception of information...7. By contrast... deliberate/conscious hearing and creative expression.8. Consciously creative talking is sorely lacking in our understanding and practice._____9. Popular culture does not promote intelligent communication.10. Technology, while practical, can have a deleterious effect._____11. Necessary to receive ideas, reformulate and then express them for personal relevance.12. E.g, Jung would do (amateur) art and sculpture for its therapeutic, psychological benefit.13. E.g., You have to express (write down, paint, etc.) dreams to give them form and work with them._____14. Summary: deliberate, mindful use of the faculties of reception/hearing and expression.15. Past use of diaries.16. In using these practices, people are self-healing.- The first aspect: find and destroy detrimental narratives.- The second aspect: Create (perhaps more difficult!)17. Image: the old films of great dictators. Take it psychologically to redeem this picture.18. Neville: “I remember when” -- perfect example of an orator, using vivid description, to create.19. I started out... in E16 and more at length in E20, investigative reporter Jon Rappoport conducted interviews with “Jack True”, whom he described as the most innovative hypnotherapist he had ever met.Rappoport:“I’ve written hundreds of articles that attempt to stimulate imagination, I’ve had to take into account the resistance...The word "will" has been pretty much removed from the modern vocabulary...To live through and by imagination is a choice, taken or not taken in freedom.”Jack True: “A person pretends, on some level, that all this business about imagination doesn’t mean much at all. But actually it’s very, very big. The trance he’s in is all about not using his imagination. That’s how he says no. He falls asleep. He walks around, but he’s asleep. He’s asleep IN A PARTICULAR WAY. He is asleep when it comes to imagination. Which means he’s asleep when it comes to the core of existence!”RESOURCESJon Rappoport Interview with “Jack True” (pseudonym) part 1 of 3

How to Maintain an Assumption
How to establish beneficial assumptions and maintain them?1. Assumptions may be held relatively consciously or subconsciously, in the background of the mind.2. Try to observe, bring to light, and dissipate detrimental background assumptions.3. Cultivate a positive “feeling tone” as the result of an affirmation exercise: focus on one specific goal.4. How to deal with several aims that are concurrent, in different scales, different targets?5. Advice of Robert A. Russell. (see Biblical ref.)6. Advice of Neville is parallel. (see ref.)7. How is it that multiple affirmations could be contained in a background assumption? 8. Beneficial to maintain a positive assumption: no downside; catch the odd moments; switch it on.9. Incorporate the disciplines of mind [E05]; e.g., thankfulness; and throw off the “old man”.10. The whole idea of the assumption... you can’t approach a mysterious thing directly.11. Perhaps in some mythical Golden Age, self consciousness was the norm.12. Your experimentation with assumptions and other techniques will be individual.RESOURCESBiblical quote. Phill. 2:5-6“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus,Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God.”Prayer - The Art of Believing, Ch. 7 ~Neville“Our subconscious assumptions continually externalize themselves that others may consciously see us as we subconsciously see ourselves, and tell us by their actions what we have subconsciously assumed of ourselves to be. Therefore let us assume the feeling ‘I AM Christ’ ” .

Lay Aside All Other Processes
I must “act by clear imagination and intention”...IntroductionHere is the premise: to stop wasting energy and go directly to what we want. Neville’s brilliantly confident formulation is this: I must “lay aside all other processes” and “act by clear imagination and intention.” In the last episode we considered political/social issues. I’m asking now: do you desire a deep blue, natural sky? To follow up, go to the show notes.PART I Problem: the maddening play of contradictions1. conceptual contradiction: internal vs eternal2. emotional contradictions: the vicissitudes discussed in E03; Fourth Way: stop being at the mercy of the pendulum3. identity contradiction: abject humility vs God within us4. faith (certainty) vs. doubt (uncertainty); Faith, on its own, doesn’t have an active quality without understandingPART II Solution: “Lay aside all other processes” and go to the imagination5. the mid-point: find a point of stillness6. ruthless [E18]: drop all of the usual associations, identifications7. the drive belt of impressions: self-remembering [E01]8. law of least action [E20]9. How to Enter the Creative State
Discussion of motivation and experiential technique...Neville quotes philosopher Douglas Fawcett, one of the philosophers of transcendental idealism. The secret of imagining is the greatest of all problems, to the solution of which everyone should aspire, for supreme power, supreme wisdom, and supreme delight lie in the far-off solution of this mystery. In this podcast series, we are taking Fawcett at his word, and exploring this essential mystery. He says that this truth is “the most important, most utterly enthralling” we could hope to find.negative motivation1. The scope and degree of deception and control. 2. The gravity of habit in thoughts, assumptions, and narratives accepted as true.positive motivation3. What is the significance of embracing and consciously developing the imagination? It is not just an “add-on.” It is transformative.4. Therapeutic function. The cause of illness is accepting reality as it appears.5. Method... the creative state. Progression: hypnosis; self-hypnosis (How to Meditate); Neville’s “controlled reverie”.Don’t be too bound by semantics -- in other words, strict definitions and instructions.6. Moving meditation. Long form affirmation; akin to acting. Use it in movement, both as exercise and a new way to be in the world.SummaryQuiet self realization forms a foundation for moving meditation. Consciousness and creation work together. The world should be place of wonder and marvel. RESOURCESNote: This episode draws on ideas from two anonymous sources interviewewd by investigative reporter Jon Rappoport (see The Matrix Revealed) who I mentioned in E16. One (“Ellis Medavoy”) is an insider in the world of propaganda creation; the other (“Jack True”) an innovator in hypnotherapy (misnamed) where the client’s imagination is allowed expression, effecting healing where psychotherapy and analysis had failed. (This is paid content. A search on these interviews may bring up partial posts for free.)Rappoport: The Secret Behind Secret Societies is a video of his lecture (1998); there is his book by the same title. 'Secret society' has a specific definition. Dated, you say. Well, see if this information is not actually exactly relevant for us today. How to Realize Spiritual Gains
We are too used to self deprecation. How to hold on to spiritual gains?..Introduction1. Recent reviews of first principles: self creation; meditation; appropriation of the wish fulfilled. 2. How to Meditate
How to do meditation, consistent with Neville’s instructions.IntroductionMeditation has many connotations and practices. What is important here is an underlying concept of the mind and spirit, an understanding of your own identity, to inform your practice, which is grounded in the ideas we have been considering, especially those in E4 (How to Really Use Affirmations).1. Concept of meditationa. Meditation, in the concept of it explained here, is equivalent to Neville’s explanation of prayer.b. Meditation, as I will explain it, is also equivalent to Alexander’s explanation of auto-hypnosis or self-suggestion.c. The essential element that ties together Neville and Alexander is the element of consciousness. Your highest faculty is asserting and repeating mindfully. 2. Understand your state; your consequent desire; your aim.a. Heartfelt desire -- in the personal sphere; trivial mattersb. Heartfelt desire -- in the personal sphere; matters of importance: for oneself; for othersc. Heartfelt desire -- in the broader social sphere -- matters of great import.3. How to approach multiple desires and goalsa. notesb. graphic symbol4. Procedure Quiet, privacy and dedicated time.5. Self-remembering; self-awareness; highest possible conscious focus6. Relaxation7. Quick induction8. Remain awake, address the passive part of your beinga. - use words, affirmations - visualization - all sensory modes - pure meaningb. use the appropriation of the wish fulfilled - most important9. GratitudeFlows naturally from the previous point. Gratitude and thankfulness 10. Remainder of the day“Walk in that assumption.” “Remain faithful to that assumption.” Connect this with the state of mind discussed in E14 where, instead of abandoning ourselves, to a “release” phenomenon, characterized by fragmentation, worry and doubt, bring yourself to the higher single point of consciousness and faith.Summary

Self Creation
The only way to acquire consciousness is consciously.IntroductionLet’s consider the idea of self-creation. We can see the intersection of the ideas and instructions of authors: Neville; Rolf Alexander; Maurice Nicoll; Eckart Tolle.1. Neville: awakened imagination -- expanded definition2. Alexander: self awareness as the life’s purpose3. Nicoll: if there is truth within us, there is a lot that is superficial to it4. Recent example of dysfunction5. Our own parallel experience 6. Nicoll’s explanation: the release phenomenon (i.e., subjection to lower level mental function)7. Approaching the work as one of our usual projects -- a future goal in time8. “The power of now” and “The creation of now”9. The consciousness (the imagination) is not in time, it is timeless 10. Daily experiences -- negative release into chaos. 11. These are subject to conscious noticing and positive release (Sedona method -- see E013).12. The only way to consciousness is to go consciously; and we are hoping for grace.13. Is this all just a mind game, or are we attaining to something more real?14. How far away from our conscious goals we stray.15. Conclusion: stop continual reacting and start continual creating.SummaryKEY QUOTE“Change of being is not a patchwork process.” (Nicoll, M. Many Ways to Die
Many ways to die to oneself are considered.IntroductionI did not post in the last 2 weeks. Discussion of illness. 1. Planet in its orbit - proximity to and remoteness from conscious source, as a test.2. Subtlety, refinement of state is desirable.3. Put off the old mental conversations.4. Helpful image of the serpent. 5. Blake: died many times since. Maurice Nicoll explains the seeming flatness and nothing to fall back on.6. Sedona Method: releasing; letting go.7. Where does the method lead? From having to wanting to being. Premature, artificial development is never a good thing (Alexander).Neville’s natural progression: accepting desire and wishes as expressions of one’s state.8. Summary: Need for a careful consideration of one’s worldview, one’s definite chief aim, and honesty with oneself about level of development. KEY QUOTE“There seems to be nothing to fall back on. Hypnosis vs Conscious Self-Persuasion
Mental sovereignty: escape the hypnotic influence of dominant narratives.1. Dominant narratives as hypnotic programs, and our own mental sovereignty.2. Mass hypnotic sleep -- society.3. Hypnotic sleep -- on an individual basis.4. Authors in field of hypnosis, self-hypnosis, autohypnosis: no idea of true consciousness.5. By contrast: GI Gurdjieff, Dr. R. Alexander and Neville: all hold a distinct concept of consciousness and are acutely aware of mass hypnosis used in society.6. What characterizes programs of institutional mass hypnosis and mass psychosis?7. Self-hypnosis, autosuggestion, affirmations -- used constructively to realize abundant life.8. Key difference in technique: use true conscious faculty, instead of surface-level readjustments.9. Recap: mass hypnotic control programs vs the acquisition of consciousness to achieve aims and even affect society at large.10. What is hypnosis really all about? How does it fit into Neville’s world view?Summary: Consider conscious use of self-persuasion. The extraordinary effects demonstrated by the phenomenon of hypnosis are dependent on belief systems. Knowing this, we release ourselves from dominant institutional narratives and realize more fully our freedom of choice.KEY QUOTE"At the present time most of us pass our lives in a state of hypnotic trance... Fantastic Psychological Instructions
Explore Neville's claim: the Bible as “fantastic psychological instructions.”..1. Why do we bother to entertain in a serious way Neville’s claim?2. Why I consider Neville’s presentation to be so compelling: a conscious influence, originating in the esoteric tradition.3. Quotes indicating fantastic psychological instructions.i. “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt in us” John.ii. “ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them” 2Cor.Echoed in Blake: “Why stand we here trembling around, calling on God for help, and not on ourselves, in whom God dwells?” iii. “do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you—unless indeed you fail the test?” 2Cor.iv. “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus:” Php.v. ”...until Christ is formed in you” Gal.4. Summary description of our own nature5. Affirmation [to be completed by the listener]KEY QUOTE“I speak of ancient prayers; many of them are much older than Christianity. These prayers are, so to speak, recapitulations; by repeating them aloud or to himself a man endeavours to experience what is in them, their whole content, with his mind and his feeling.” (from talk by G.I. Switch on the light; rise above shortcomings and make the connectionSummary: Review of episodesRESOURCESRobert A. RussellYou Can Get What You Want, If You Find it Within Yourself-audiobook, narrated by Barry Pederson (Youtube channel: Giving Voice to the Wisdom of the Ages)Comments:I drew on ideas from Russell in this episode. He was an Ecumenical minister. Of course, his concept of Jesus (evidently) as an historical personage does not accord with Neville's view; nor is it necessary to consider evil spirits as actual separate beings (as opposed to merely negative tendencies within the psyche). Those points aside, I think you will find what he says supports and complements Neville's message really well. I don't think there's anything wrong with using Neville's concepts when listening to Russell: i.e., awareness of being, pure consciousness is God; while the faculty of human imagination is Christ Jesus. So often in our discussions we are dealing with the ups and downs, the doubts, the negative inner talk, etc. We often despair that we cannot seem to appropriate fully the desired end state, because the evidence of the senses is too powerful; despondency ensues. Well, consider Russell's advice on how to clean house and maintain the right attitude. I hope you find it useful!

Neville and Christianity
Neville Goddard’s approach to faith was unconventional, yet rooted in the Bible...Views of Christianity, and how they affect the project of assimilating Neville’s ideas.1. Types of religion for types of persons2. Comparing methods and religions is a matter of balance3. Self-change involves challenging identity4. Neville’s explanation of Christianity5. Objections by conventional church-going Christians and even many non-religious persons6. Further objections: Neville’s thought is misguided, a faulty interpretation against historical authority 7. What is the standard of personal truth? 8. Further objections: self deception via evil entitiesSummary and ConclusionNeville, it appears, was the recipient of an underground current of psychological thought, enhanced by his own mystical revelations, not to mention his diligence in reading, rereading and practically memorizing all 66 books of the Bible -- all the while checking translations and commentaries. The result was his intuitive discovery of the blueprint for self change. He showed people how to extricate themselves from self-imposed persecutions in order to achieve what they had thought was impossible, against reason, against the social order, against the economic order, and against the laws of probability.KEY QUOTE“We fight for our opinions, not because we believe them, but because they involve the ordinary feeling of oneself.” (Maurice Nicoll Living Time)RESOURCESUPDATE: Credit goes to Jordan Maxwell (inadvertently edited out of the audio) for expose of thick pagan overlay in present day Christianity, and for investigating the etymology of the word “church”.The Naked Truth - critical survey of conventional religion. 12 Disciplines of Mind (Disciples)
Twelve Disciples - not historical personages, but mental disciplines. IntroductionNeville’s explanation of the 12 Disciples as aspects of the mind occurs in Chapter 18 of Your Faith is Your Fortune. Our purpose is to offer an interpretation and commentary on this extraordinary self-training. Neville’s introductionThe disciples received the power against “unclean spirits, sickness and disease.” Understanding this psychologically, it means a series of mental practices to revolutionize the mental economy; i.e., leaving behind unworthy content and gaining new standpoints.“Discipleship” means to awaken and bring to consciousness, to distinct awareness, these qualities, and so to effect a reversal of mind, so that they are no longer harmful and chaotic, but harmonized and beneficial.1. Simon, later surnamed Peter. The foundational practice and concept is that of self-consciousness. Notice that Simon is, precisely, this aspect of the mind that “discovers the I AM [awareness of being]...”. 2. Andrew, or courage. When the “facts of the case”, the apparent conditions of life, do not accord with your concept of what is worthwhile and ideal, then you find yourself in direct opposition to what most people will say is “reality”.3. James the righteous judgeThis is the quality of accurate assessment or evaluation of others. 4. John the belovedIt is the continuation and intensification of the same quality we started with, of “hearing” only the good. 5. PhilipThis aspect of the mind understands experientially, not theoretically, how Man (human beings) and God (the creative principle) are related. 6. Bartholomew, the imaginative facultyThe name etymologically means “abounding in furrows” -- obviously, being very fecund or fertile -- an appropriate symbol for the imagination.7. Thomas, disciplined denial "You're in denial!" Yes -- in a good way.8. Matthew, gift of GodNeville gives a fresh view on the nature of desires. 9. James, son of AlphaeusThis capacity of discernment strikes me as a function of higher consciousness. 10. Thaddeus, quality of praise and gratitudeThankfulness can and must precede the receipt of the gifts prayed for. 11. Simon of CanaanThe human condition is in some respects dire. We can follow Neville’s instructions and put things right. 12. JudasEntirely reversed from the ordinary understanding. Here is the psychological death, making way for the new person.KEY QUOTE“The twelve disciples represent the twelve qualities of mind which can be controlled and disciplined by man.”(Neville, Your Faith is Your Fortune, Chapter 18)RESOURCESEssentialNeville GoddardYour Faith is Your Fortune, Chapter 18Freedom for All, Chapter 2Feeling is the SecretRepeatedNeville GoddardAt Your Command, Part 1MentionedRobert A. How to Really Use Affirmations
Affirmations are form of prayer. How to make them more effective?..Consider Neville’s advice and nuances of technique. The goal is to inject fresh energy, conviction and effectiveness into our affirmations.1. Premise: we are awakening. We are self-regulating, self-developing, self-teaching. 2. Neville’s discussion of the sub-conscious mind is most helpful. engage in an exchange, create a rapport, with oneselfthe subjective mind is the sub-conscious: it is 100% susceptible to or subject to suggestionit is deductive in its thinking process, as opposed to inductiveit admits unconditionally the suggestion presented to itThe entire basis of affirmation is a reversal of mind, where we switch the polarity or the vector, so to speak, to stop being programmed by suggestion and instead provide the suggestion.Another reference to validate the premise: Claude Bristol, The Magic of Believing.3. Mind and speech. Two principles referred to by Neville from the Hermetica.4. Speech. Its nature and origin; its creative function.5. What is vain repetition? Speech without mind.6. Goal: speech with conscious intention. Shall not return unto me void.7. Goal: feeling of the wish fulfilled. (Word = logos = meaning). Go straight to the meaning -- the only thing worth having -- the state itself.8. Exception: use vain repetition as a means to get started, to pull oneself out of difficulty.9. Techniques: short formlong form elaborate description channels or forms of speech: thought, physically spoken, read silently, read aloud, recorded, listened to.10. Psychological instructions from Book of James: ship’s rudder; horse’s bit. Persistence. Do not fall into the trap of continually listening to new ideas without putting them into practice.KEY QUOTE“Stop all of the old mechanical negative inner talking and start a new positive and constructive inner speech from premises of fulfilled desire.” (Neville, Awakened Imagination and The Search, Chapter 5)RESOURCESRepeatedby Neville; text and audio by Barry Peterson:Prayer, The Art of Believing Essentialby Neville; text and audio by Barry Peterson: Awakened Imagination and The SearchMentionedClaude Bristol, The Magic of Believing
