Prior to the shutdown, one out of 8 individuals is food insecure, meaning they might not know where their next meal will come from. We help people in need get access to nutritious food and find relief from hunger.During the holidays especially families should not be without so we are pledging to make a difference in our communities and we encourage our listeners to do the same. What to donate? While each non-profit may have different needs, there are items that can be purchased that have a long shelf life and are always in need: Canned proteins (tuna, chicken), canned fruits and vegetables, pasta and sauce, and shelf-stable dairy products, peanut butter, jelly.​Ways to give: donate food, money donations, volunteer,  Dallas County Resources:​North Texas Food Bank- Partners with numerous local pantries and programs throughout the Dallas area.​Crossroads Community Services- Distributes large amounts of food to residents in need. Crossroads is meeting the urgent need for quality, nutritious food by distributing meal essentials to an average of 1,100 households every month.​Tarrant Area Food Bank - Working To Eliminate Hunger- Tarrant Area Food Bank empowers communities to eliminate hunger by providing food, education and resources through innovation and collaboration. As a regional clearinghouse for donated food, we provide a nutritious mix of fresh, frozen and shelf-stable products to a network of hunger-relief charities and social services organizations in North Texas. Sioux Falls Resources: ​Feeding South Dakota- 11.7 million meals. We distributed food to thousands of families in South Dakota in our 2024 Fiscal Year. Thanks to our incredible partners and supporters, Feeding South Dakota is able to fight hunger in all 66 counties of our state. Over the school year, we distributed 165,000packages of food to children across South Dakota through the year. Feeding South Dakota serves over 12,000 families each month through our Mobile Food Distribution sites across the state.​The Salvation Army- Every day, more than 106,000 people in South Dakota are at risk of going hungry. We welcome anyone in need who walks through the doors, including the homeless, people in need of a little extra help during a difficult season, older adults and families struggling to feed their growing children.​Sioux Falls Thrive- Food Rescue 605 started as a pilot project of Sioux Falls Thrive’s Community Food Security Network. The idea was to rescue unused produce from neighborhood gardens to process into healthy food items. In the fall of 2024, a team of volunteers and chefs collected more than 200 pounds of vegetables from donors and created salsa, marinara sauce, vegetable soup, and ratatouille. The salsa was donated to local food pantries, while the soup, marinara, and ratatouille were given away in the Eat Well Sioux Falls Mobile Market with the purchase of an accompanying low-cost food item. After this successful pilot, more partners were invited, including Bread Break and St. Francis House, to broaden the scope of the project, which has evolved to become Food Rescue 605, an initiative that the group plans to grow to involve more chefs, more volunteers, and even more rescued food.
