MH flight 370: The Disappearance of a Malaysian Airlines Flight
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This Week, Your Curator Zach is talking about a more recent mystery in the skies.A passenger jet doesn’t vanish like a magic trick, yet Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 does exactly that. We follow the night MH370 leaves Kuala Lumpur for Beijing like any routine long-haul flight, then slips out of the world’s grasp after one calm sign-off: “Good night, Malaysian 370.” We break down what’s known versus what’s assumed: how air traffic control handoffs work, why transponders matter, and what it means when military radar later suggests a dramatic U-turn and a route that still follows navigational waypoints. We also dig into the satellite “handshake” pings that push the search into the Indian Ocean, one of the most unforgiving places on Earth to find wreckage, evidence, or answers. From there, we lay out the main MH370 theories without pretending any one of them is airtight We end with our honest take, why the details make us lean away from a paranormal explanation, and why this case still rattles us every time we board a plane. If you have a theory, we want it. The Three Kings Ritual: Summoning Spirits From Reddit!
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This Week, Your Curator Kara is Summoning the Queen and Fool From Reddit.“Please don’t actually try this.” That’s the line that launches one of the strangest artifacts of internet horror culture: the Three Kings ritual. What starts as a 2012 r/nosleep post quickly turns into a step-by-step blueprint loaded with specificity: three chairs, two mirrors angled just right, a candle, water, a fan, an alarm set for 3:30 a.m.We dig into why the ritual hits differently than classic dare-style games like Bloody Mary. Then we get honest about the psychology: sleep deprivation, anticipation, suggestion, and the “felt presence” phenomenon that makes people swear someone is in the room with them. Are the Queen and the Fool external entities, archetypes, or just your own mind answering back under pressure? We read the original post’s instructions and unpack why the ritual can feel dangerous even if nothing supernatural is happening. Listen, share this with a friend who loves Reddit horror and paranormal rituals, and subscribe so you don’t miss what we cover next. The Cold War Car That Became A Monster
A black sedan crawls along at walking speed, matching you step for step, with windows you can’t see through and curtains that feel like eyes. That’s the doorway into one of the strangest Cold War urban legends ever whispered across Eastern Europe: the Black Volga. And here’s the twist that makes it stick under your skin, the car wasn’t imaginary. The Volga was a real Soviet luxury vehicle, which means the fear didn’t start as pure fantasy. It started with something people actually saw on their streets. We dig into why this story took root in Poland and across the former Soviet bloc, where government surveillance and controlled media created the perfect conditions for rumors to become “truth.” When information disappears, people fill the blanks with whatever explains the danger, and the Black Volga becomes a catch-all symbol for vanishings, power, and the sense that you’re never really alone. From there, the legend evolves fast: secret police kidnappings, priests as villains, Satanist rituals, and finally the devil himself, complete with red eyes, horns under streetlights, and license plates that may or may not read 666. The part that lingers isn’t whether any version is factual. It’s how fear works. We talk about why kids and adults remembered this as lived experience, how panic burns ordinary moments into permanent memory, and why every generation builds new monsters out of the same instincts. When you finish listening, tell us what your hometown warning story is, then subscribe, share the show with a friend, and leave a review so more oddballs can find us.Get All Your Spiritual Supplies From Mystic Moons On Etsy, or Check out their FacebookSupport the showThe Shop's phone lines are open! Fear Caught On Tape: The Pascagoula Alien Abduction
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This Week, Your Curator Zach is getting us all abducted.A secret tape recorder in a sheriff’s department. Two exhausted, terrified men left alone in a cold room. And a few minutes of audio that still makes UFO researchers stop and listen 50 years later. We’re digging into the Pascagoula, Mississippi alien abduction, a 1973 Gulf Coast story that starts with a normal after-work fishing trip and ends with a hovering craft, paralyzing force, and a clinical “scan” that feels more like procedure than science fiction. We walk through who Charles Hickson and Calvin Parker were before that night and why their backgrounds matter when people debate witness credibility. What keeps pulling us back is the aftermath. Instead of waiting days, they report immediately, and the police try to catch them in a lie by recording them in private. The result is a raw snapshot of panic and disbelief that’s hard to wave away, even if you lean skeptical. Listen now, then tell us where you land: physical abduction, psychological event, or something we don’t have language for yet. Lurking in the Trees: The New Hampshire Woods Devil
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This Week, Your Curator Kara is lurking for cryptids in New Hampshire. What’s worse, seeing the thing or feeling it? We head deep into Northern New Hampshire folklore and cryptid history with the New Hampshire Woods Devil, a legend tied to campers, hunters, hikers, and truck drivers who report glowing eyes, impossible movement, and the heavy feeling of being watched. We break down the reported description, the sensory clues, and the behavior that makes it feel intelligent rather than animal. We also dig into the leading explanations: a regional Bigfoot variant, a paranormal shadow entity, a forest elemental, or just darkness and isolation playing tricks on the brain. If you’ve ever been deep in the woods at night, you already know why this story sticks.Subscribe for more weird stories, share this with your favorite camping buddy, and leave a review if you want to help the shop grow.See our website for all episode references.Get All Your Spiritual Supplies From Mystic Moons On Etsy, or Check out their FacebookSupport the showThe Shop's phone lines are open! The Rosenheim Poltergeist: Spirit? Psychic Energy? SLIding?
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This Week, Your Curator Zach is Taking a Tour to Bavaria for a Poltergeist Tale.Your phone rings at work. You pick up. Static. It rings again. Static. Then it starts happening hundreds of times a day and the line begins dialing out by itself. That’s where we start before the story gets even stranger: lights flicker, fluorescent fixtures sway like someone shoved them, and the office goes from “annoying electrical problem” to “why are papers sliding off desks when nobody is near them?”We head to 1967 Bavaria for the Rosenheim Poltergeist, one of the most infamous haunted office cases on record. A law office full of practical, detail-obsessed people tries everything you’d expect: phone technicians, electricians, repairs, replacements, and engineering checks. Nothing stops the ringing, the outages, the surges, or the physical disturbances. Then parapsychologist Hans Bender steps in with a research method: observe, document, correlate, and refuse a tidy ghost story until the facts earn it. His conclusion lands on recurrent spontaneous psychokinesis, a stress-linked theory that frames poltergeist activity as an unconscious human effect rather than a spirit. The Villisca Axe Murder House: Unsolved Mystery, Still Haunting Today.
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This week, your Curator Kara is keeping with the Axe Murder Trend. Eight people are alive after a small town church program in Villisca, Iowa. By morning, the Moore family and two visiting children are gone, the house is staged in ways that make your skin crawl, and the investigation is already falling apart. The Villisca Axe Murders are infamous for the brutality, but what keeps pulling us back is the weirdness: covered mirrors, covered faces, a killer calm enough to move through the home and even cook food, then vanish with no conviction ever coming. We walk through what’s known about the 1912 timeline, the victims, and the suspect list that still fuels true crime debates today. We also talk about why these family-in-bed attacks feel connected to other unsolved axe murder cases, and how a lack of forensic tools plus a contaminated crime scene can lock a case into permanent limbo.Check out our website for all episode references Get All Your Spiritual Supplies From Mystic Moons On Etsy, or Check out their FacebookSupport the showThe Shop's phone lines are open! The Devil In Devon: Satan's Footprints In The Snow
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This Week, Your Curator Zach is trekking through the English Country Side. The Devil’s Footprints of 1855. A winter storm wipes Devon clean like a blank page, and by morning someone has written a message across it in hoof prints. Not a scattered trail, not a looping animal track, but a single-file line that seems to march straight through the countryside for miles, ignoring fences, walls, and common sense. Small cloven hoof prints with consistent spacing, reports of the trail continuing over rooftops and up vertical surfaces, and moments where it appears to stop at front doors before showing up behind homes. As newspapers and clergy latch on, the story spreads from local shock to a national obsession, with investigators collecting sketches, witness reports, and attempted explanations. If you like paranormal history, unexplained phenomena, cryptid lore, and true mysteries that still don’t have a clean answer, hit play, share this with your favorite skeptic, and then subscribe and leave us a review so more oddballs can find the show.Check out our website for all episode references Get All Your Spiritual Supplies From Mystic Moons On Etsy, or Check out their FacebookSupport the showThe Shop's phone lines are open! The Hinterkaifeck Murders: Mystery Remains On The Farm
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This week, your Curator Kara has an unsolved murder.Footprints in fresh snow lead straight to a farmhouse… and then stop. No trail away. That single detail captures why the Hinterkaifeck murders still get under our skin a century later: a remote Bavarian farm, a family with a dark private life, and a killer who may have been closer than anyone imagined. In this episode we unpack how six people were murdered near Munich in 1922 with no confirmed killer to this day. The story isn’t just “unsolved true crime.” It’s a knot of motives and warning signs: an incest conviction that isolates the family, bitter paternity disputes, and a household full of fear. We talk through the reports of attic footsteps, a missing house key, strange footprints that don’t return, and a newspaper no one ordered. Is it a haunting, a stalker, or a “frogger” secretly living in the attic or basement? That question becomes even darker once you learn what happens next. If you love unsolved mysteries, historical crime, and paranormal-adjacent dread that might have a real-world explanation, hit play.Check out our website for all episode references Get All Your Spiritual Supplies From Mystic Moons On Etsy, or Check out their FacebookSupport the showThe Shop's phone lines are open! 30 East Drive: The Black Monk of Pontefract
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This Week, Your Curator Zach is taking us to the most haunted home in England.A teenage girl jolts awake after midnight with invisible pressure crushing her throat, her bed shaking like something is trying to throw her off, and dark red finger marks blooming on her neck. That moment is the turning point in the case of 30 East Drive in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, a modest brick house that’s earned a lasting reputation as one of the most haunted homes in England and even Europe. We open the door on the Black Monk of Pontefract, tracing how a family’s “new home routine” turns into classic poltergeist activity: knocks that seem to answer back, flickering lights, objects moving on their own, unexplained pools of water, strange foam from taps, and footsteps that grow louder until neighbors and police can’t ignore them. The Great Lunar Hoax of 1835: Bat People on The Moon!
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This week, your Curator Kara is Taking Us to The Moon!A New York newspaper once got thousands of people to believe there were bat-like humanoids living on the moon, and the wild part is how reasonable it sounded at the time. We walk through the Great Moon Hoax of 1835, the infamous run of articles published by the New York Sun that claimed Sir John Herschel had a next-level telescope capable of spotting lunar forests, temples, strange animals, and “Vespatrilo Homo” flying around like it was normal field research. The story didn’t spread because people were dumb. It spread because it was written like science, released in a bingeable series, and backed by names that sounded impossible to question. From there, we connect the dots to today’s world of viral posts, “trust me bro” sources, and even AI-generated answers that sound authoritative while being totally wrong. Spontaneous Human Combustion: Tales That Turn To Ash!
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This week, your Curator Zach may just burst into flames! In this episode walk through one of the strangest forensic mysteries on record: the 1951 death of Mary Reeser in St. Petersburg, Florida, where investigators found a small burn zone, a greasy smoky odor, a clock stopped at 4:20 a.m., and roughly 10 pounds of ash where her chair once sat. From there, we zoom out into the unsettling pattern behind spontaneous human combustion reports, including historical cases like Countess Cornelia Brandi and modern controversies like the Irish ruling that officially recorded spontaneous human combustion as a cause of death.Listen now, share it with your most skeptical friend, and leave a review if you like our weird little shop. The Scole Experiment: Seances in Norfolk, England!
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This week, your Curator Kara is blending Science and Seance.A pitch-black basement. A small table. Were chatting about the Scole Experiment, one of the strangest and most controversial cases in modern paranormal research, and we’re taking you through it step by step. We start in Scole, Norfolk, where a dedicated séance room is built. Over years of sittings, the group reports classic physical mediumship phenomena: floating lights in total darkness, voices that don’t match anyone in the room, objects sliding across the table, bells ringing, and “apports” that seem to appear from nowhere. Then the Society for Psychical Research shows up. With experienced researchers observing dozens of sessions, the story shifts from spooky tale to attempted documentation and a formal write-up that becomes the famous Scole Report. We’re joined by Jonathan Robinson to talk past life regression, hypnotherapy, and how the theta state can open a door to memories, metaphors, and emotional roots you didn’t know you were carrying. Jonathan breaks down what hypnosis actually feels like, why it’s closer to guided meditation than Hollywood mind control, and how subconscious healing can create fast shifts in confidence, performance anxiety, and persistent phobias. If you’re curious about spiritual healing but still skeptical, this conversation keeps it practical: even if you label it imagination, the question is whether you feel freer afterward. To Contact Jonathan:WebsiteInstagramLinktreeEmail - [email protected] All Your Spiritual Supplies From Mystic Moons On Etsy, or Check out their FacebookSupport the showThe Shop's phone lines are open! Out Of Body!: How Astral Projection Took Shape
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This Week, Curator Kara will be separating our souls from our bodies!Astral projection didn’t just appear with candles and a playlist. We pull the thread through time to see how humans learned to imagine the self as detachable, mobile, and returnable, then tried to turn that idea into practice. From Egypt’s Ba, a bird-headed emblem of movement, to the Zoroastrian Arda Viraf’s supervised tour of heaven and hell, the early record reveals a sturdy pattern: induction, separation, journey, return, and testimony. Then Robert Monroe added method. He described the vibrational state, founded the Monroe Institute. The lab pushed back and helped, too. Neuroscientists can trigger out-of-body sensations by stimulating the temporoparietal junction, while near-death experiences across cultures repeat the same structure with different symbols. Is The Earth Hollow?: Conspiracy, UFOs, and...Nazis!
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This week, your Curator Zach is taking us to the center of the earth! We turn our attention below our feet and follow a breathtaking trail through ancient myth, Enlightenment science, wartime secrets, and modern UFO lore to ask whether an advanced civilization could be thriving inside the Earth.Greek gateways to the underworld, Mayan cenotes lined with ritual offerings, Norse craftsman-dwarves, and the powerful thread of Agartha from Hindu and Buddhist traditions all point to a living world beneath the surface. The plot thickens in the polar night. Nazi occult expeditions to Tibet, the Arctic, and Antarctica fed persistent rumors of hidden bases and vanished U-boats. After World War II, Admiral Richard E. Byrd led Operation Highjump, a massive Antarctic push that ended far earlier than planned, fueling speculation. We unpack the controversial “Byrd diary” that describes a warm valley inside the ice, a radiant inner sun, telepathic hosts, and disc-shaped craft alarmed by nuclear tests. Shag Harbor: UFO's Underwater Adventure in Nova Scotia
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This Week, Curator Kara is taking us under the Sea and into the Stars.A quiet harbor. Four steady lights on the water. Yellow foam blooming across the surface as something descends without a splash. We revisit the Shag Harbor incident of 1967—not as a dusty legend, but as a near‑perfect template for how we think about USOs and transmedium craft today. No wreckage. No debris. Just witnesses, a Coast Guard search, Navy sonar tracking deliberate underwater movement, and official paperwork that coolly labels it “unidentified.”Got your own UFO or USO encounter? The Witching Hour: Why Is 3AM So Terrifying!?
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This week, your Curator Zach is going to keep you up at nightThe clock flips to 3:00 and the room feels different, quieter, heavier, charged. Is that the veil thinning or just your brain finally quiet enough to notice what’s always there? We dive deep into the witching hour with a mix of curiosity, folklore, and hard science, asking whether 3 a.m. is truly a doorway for demons, a sanctuary for witches, or the time human attention becomes razor sharp.By the end, 3 a.m. feels less like a threat and more like a threshold. If you wake in that window, you can anchor with a breath, say a prayer, or journal what rises. The power isn’t outside you; it’s in the space the world gives back when everything else goes quiet.Check out our website for all references!Get All Your Spiritual Supplies From Mystic Moons On Etsy, or Check out their FacebookSupport the showThe Shop's phone lines are open! The Anthill Kids: Roch's Cult of Pain and Punishment
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This Week, Curator Kara has cult story that will make your skin crawl...with ants! What happens when a childhood shaped by violence meets a hunger for absolute authority? We follow the rise and collapse of the Anthill Kids, the Canadian cult built by Roch Thériault, a man who reinvented himself as a prophet after being rejected by his church. He promised salvation through obedience and suffering, then engineered a world where sleep was rare, food was scarce, and isolation was total. We walk through the mechanics of control—how isolation, exhaustion, and fear erode judgment. You’ll hear about Solange Boiliard’s tragic death after a grotesque “exorcism,” the children raised amid coercion and pain, and the chilling calculus that reframed abuse as spiritual growth. Most importantly, we center the courage of Gabrielle, who endured years of terror, escaped after a partial amputation, and told everything to authorities. Her testimony ended the commune and put Thériault away, proving that one voice can crack even the tightest grip.Check out Our Website for all references!Get All Your Spiritual Supplies From Mystic Moons On Etsy, or Check out their FacebookSupport the showThe Shop's phone lines are open! The Black Death: A Journey Through the Medieval Bubonic Plague
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This week, your Curator Zach Is telling the dark tale of the plague!Twelve ships slid into Messina’s harbor and history snapped. We follow the Black Death from its quiet beginnings in Central Asian rodents to the siege of Kaffa, where corpses were catapulted over walls and panic sailed for Sicily. What arrived in 1347 was more than a disease; it was a trio of killer plagues—bubonic, pneumonic, and septicemic—moving along the arteries of medieval trade and faith, turning crowded markets and cathedral squares into corridors of grief. You’ll hear how Yersinia pestis adapted to fleas, how Mongol movements amplified spread, and how lancing buboes and burning incense were no match for a pathogen that could leap from breath to breath. Origin Of "The Ring": Yurei Vs Onryo and Okiku's 10 Plates
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This Week, Curator Kara has another movie review: "The Ring".A voice counts to nine, pauses, and screams. That image pulls us from modern horror back to a legend that refuses to be quiet, as we explore the eerie thread connecting The Ring to the story of Okiku and the ten plates at Himeji Castle. We open with a simple question, if you were wronged and then died, would you seek justice or revenge, and use it to unpack how different cultures shape their ghosts: Yurē as the mournful echoes of unfinished lives, and Onryō as injustice turned into action. If you love folklore, film, and the way stories carry memory across centuries, this one’s for you. Press play, share it with a horror-loving friend, and then tell us: given the choice, do you haunt or help? Happy New Year: Oddball Traditions From Around The Globe
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This Week, Curator Zach is Springing you into the New Year with some wild traditionsMidnight isn’t just a timestamp; it’s a thin place where old stories exhale and new ones rush in. We packed our bags and crossed borders to explore how different cultures welcome the year: by smashing plates, hanging onions, racing with suitcases, counting grapes to a chiming clock, ringing 108 temple bells, burning human-sized effigies, and throwing coins into a house lit bright as noon.Along the way we share origins, folklore, and the practical “why” behind each tradition, then stitch them into a respectful, irreverent New Year relay race you can adapt at home. It’s part history lesson, part party plan, and fully about intention you can sense: noise for cleansing, flame for closure, circles for fortune, bells for release. If you’ve got a hometown ritual or a family superstition, we want to hear it. Subscribe, share with a friend who loves weird history, and leave a review with your good-luck tradition—we might try it next year.Check out our website for all episode referencesGet All Your Spiritual Supplies From Mystic Moons On Etsy, or Check out their FacebookSupport the showThe Shop's phone lines are open! Oddball Holidaze: We Got You a Murder! (Michigan True Crime)
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This Christmas, your Curator Kara is gifting us all a Michigan True Crime Story.\We revisit the Michigan co-ed murders across Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti in the late 1960s, where a clean-cut college student hid behind charm and familiarity while women disappeared. This isn’t a lurid deep-dive into a killer’s mystique. It’s a careful retelling of the victims’ lives, the warning signs people ignored, and the moments of courage that finally cracked the case.We walk through the shifting “safe” culture of a college town where hitchhiking felt normal and dorms stayed unlocked. Witness after witness noticed the small things: dead, cold eyes in a wig shop, a hovering presence, a fresh coat of paint in a basement that smelled like bleach. When those observations were reported early and clearly, the investigation turned. Forensics aligned with accounts, and the murders stopped. That’s the point: vigilance is a practice. You don’t need to be a detective to make a difference; you just need to act on the feeling that something isn’t right. If this episode resonates, share it with a friend, hit follow, and leave a quick review. And tell us: what safety habit will you change today? Hans Trapp: The Cannibal Christmas Scarecrow
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This week, your Curator Zach has a Dark Christmas Cannibal Legend.Somewhere in the borderlands between France and Germany a scarecrow waits by the road. We follow the threads of Hans Trapp, the “Christmas cannibal,” from his roots in the very real Hans von Trotha. A petty, powerful baron who feuded with an abbey and defied the Pope, to the folklore figure who haunts December nights with straw-stuffed sleeves and a sharpened stick. We unpack how a historical grudge spiraled into legend: dams built and shattered, towns flooded, papal letters ignored, and excommunication that turned authority into theater. Then we trace the folklore’s second life, as Hans Trapp becomes Saint Nick’s dark companion across Alsace. Santa offers sweets while the scarecrow tallies sins with sticks and chains. Along the way, we talk about why December carries so many shadow-creatures, how negative reinforcement outmuscles kind intentions. If you love haunted history, European folklore, and the strange places where church politics meet campfire stories, this one’s for you. Ten days In A Madhouse: Nellie Bly is Committed to Blackwell Island
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This week, your Curator Kara Has Gone Mad with Nellie BlyWe open the doors to Blackwell’s Island, once home to New York’s almshouse, workhouse, penitentiary, and the infamous asylum, and follow the razor‑sharp path of Elizabeth Jane Cochrane, better known as Nellie Bly, whose undercover reporting forced the public to look straight at what it wanted to ignore. From the ice-cold intake baths to rancid meals and nights spent shivering under thin blankets, we revisit the details she recorded and the people she met: grieving widows, immigrant women who couldn’t be understood, and a teenager who didn’t know why she was there. We walk through how Bly engineered her commitment, the moment she dropped the act and was believed even less, and the terrifying reality of the “credibility trap” once you’re labeled insane. This story isn’t just Victorian scandal; it’s a mirror. Understaffed psychiatric wards, overwhelmed hospitals, and carceral “solutions” still echo the same logic: out of sight, out of mind. If this resonated with you, use your voice: share the episode, leave a review, and subscribe so more people find these stories—and the courage inside them.Check out Our Website for all references used in this episode!Get All Your Spiritual Supplies From Mystic Moons On Etsy, or Check out their FacebookSupport the showThe Shop's phone lines are open! Oddball Guests: Jeff Belanger On Lore and Life Lessons
Welcome to a Very Special Episode of The Oddity Shop! In The Shop This Week we have a special guest: Adventurer, Author, Speaker, And So Much More - Jeff Belanger! What if the ghost’s unfinished business isn’t theirs at all, but ours? We sit down with author, researcher, and longtime Ghost Adventures writer Jeff Belanger for a fast, funny, and deeply humane tour of the paranormal that treats legends like cultural sermons. Jeff traces his path from teenage encounters near the Warrens’ Connecticut home to crafting TV stories that ask the only question that matters: why here? We wander into folklore’s global rhyme scheme: puckwudgies matching fae and Inuit little people before descending into winter with Grýla, Krampus, and Jeff’s Fright Before Christmas, where fear becomes the lever that shifts us back toward redemption. Then we tilt our eyes to the sky: if “aliens” look and breathe like us, maybe they’re future humans: time travelers with a vested interest in our better choices. Whether you come for Ghost Adventures secrets, New England legends, or a smarter way to think about hauntings, you’ll leave with more than goosebumps. Madison Seminary: Ohio's Most Haunted Spirit Hub
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This week, your Curator Zach has a Tale of Madison Ohios Haunted Seminary.Step into the seminary’s timeline: a mid-1800s school that became a Civil War refuge, a home for veterans and nurses under the Ohio Women’s Relief Corps, and later a patchwork of care facilities, government offices, and a work-release site. Each era left a distinct emotional charge, from classrooms buzzing with youthful focus to rooms filled with grief, comfort, and end-of-life care. The stories are personal and palpable. We follow the remarkable life of Elizabeth Stiles, a teacher turned Union spy recruited by Abraham Lincoln who spent her last years at Madison. We explore the reported spirits so many investigators talk about: Sarah, the childlike presence who collects dollar bills; Steven, the boy often seen in the main building; the watchful “Colonel”; and the basement’s territorial male energy. Why does Madison seem so active? We consider the stone tape theory, the idea of egregores, and how more than 10,000 visitors might seed an evolving social energy. Along the way, we celebrate the people preserving the site, from owner Adam Kimmel to Jeff Fent, Lauren Hellekson, and so many more who share their finding!See Our Website for all Episode ReferencesGet All Your Spiritual Supplies From Mystic Moons On Etsy, or Check out their FacebookSupport the showThe Shop's phone lines are open! The Fox Sisters: From Tiny Knocks To A Global Movement
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This week, your Curator Kara is Cracking into the Fox Sister's Story. Two sisters who turned raps in the dark into a movement that rewrote how we grieve. We follow Maggie and Kate Fox from Hydesville’s tiny room to roaring theaters, where audiences asked questions and the walls answered back. As their older sister Leah took the reins, seances spread across America and Europe, offering something people craved: a way to keep love alive with tangible signs, moving tables, and messages you could feel and hear. Spiritualism. Then came the bombshell: Maggie’s 1888 confession that the raps were toe and joint snaps, performed on cue before a stunned crowd. We walk through the contradictions with care: comfort versus deceit, belief versus proof, and what it costs to be the face of a phenomenon. You’ll hear why spiritualism exploded when it did, how it gave people hope, and why the Fox sisters’ complicated legacy still shapes ghost hunting, mediumship, and the way we talk about death. Miracle Of The Andes: 72 Days of Horrific Survival
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This week, your Curator Zach has chilling tale of Survival and Tenacity.A bad day can spiral fast. Were heading to 1972 and a chartered flight over the Andes that never made its landing. The crash of Flight 571 left a rugby team, family, and friends in brutal cold with little food, less shelter, and a strong will to survive. What follows is a stark, deeply human account of ingenuity and ethics under pressure. We don’t sensationalize the hardest part. The group confronts cannibalism with consent, ritual, and faith, reframing a taboo as a last-resort act of respect to preserve life. An avalanche buries more hope. A radio announces the search is over. And then two men decide to walk over 40 miles to get help. We end with a warm ask to share what you’re grateful for so we can amplify it for the community. The Corn Husk Witch: Brooding Hag or Harvest Queen?!?
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This week, your Curator Kara is talking about corn...and witches! The fields get quiet first. Then the air thins, the leaves rasp, and every step seems to wake something older than the rows. We follow that feeling straight into the legend of the Corn Husk Witch, a figure braided from European harvest rites, Native American teachings, and the American habit of turning warnings into campfire stories. What began as the Corn Mother, a sacred spirit kept safe in the final sheaf, evolves across time into a crackling guardian who walks the edges at dusk, reminding us that gratitude is not optional when you live by the land.If folklore, harvest history, and a little seasonal dread are your thing, hit play and join us in the rows. Ouija Come From? : Haunted Origins of Talking Boards
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This week, your Curator Zach has the Tale of Ouija's Origins.A century ago, a simple board promised something enormous: a chance to keep talking after goodbye. We follow that promise from candlelit parlors to factory floors, then through a single film that rewired an entire culture’s imagination. Along the way we meet the Fox sisters, watch automatic writing become a planchette, and see how Charles Kennard and Elijah Bond turned a parlor method into a mass‑market icon—only to have William Fuld claim the credit and build an empire that outlived him. The history is twisty, but it’s also deeply human: people searching for answers when life doesn’t give them one.Whether you see the board as a tool, a trap, or a beautiful piece of folk art, the core is connection—how we reach for each other when words run out. If you enjoyed this deep dive into spiritualism, talking boards, cultural myths, and the science of belief, follow the show, share it with a friend, and leave a quick review to help other curious minds find us. The Demon House: A Possession In Gary Indiana
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This week, your Curator Kara has a Possession Story guaranteed to give you chillsA boy “walked” up a hospital wall, nurses took notes, and a police captain left a rental house convinced something was terribly wrong. We trace the Gary, Indiana Demon House case from its first oddities—swarms of black flies in midwinter, booted steps from a dark basement—to the terrifying crescendo of levitation claims, guttural voices, and a DCS worker’s report that still sparks debate. Finally, we follow Father Michael Maginot’s blessings and three exorcisms, the family’s departure from Carolina Street, and the strange finale where Zak Bagan's buys the property, films Demon House, and demolishes it, preserving only soil and fragments in a museum. Whether you approach the case as spiritual warfare, psychological contagion, or a hard-to-classify mix, the documented trail forces a serious look at how communities respond when a home becomes a hazard. If this story hooked you, share it with a friend, follow the show, and leave a review with your take: hoax, horror, or something in between?Check out oddityshoppodcast.com for all references used in this episode!Get All Your Spiritual Supplies From Mystic Moons On Etsy, or Check out their FacebookSupport the showThe Shop's phone lines are open! The Leshy: Vodka-Loving Protector of The Woods
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This week, your Curator Zach has the Slavic Lor of the Leshy. The Leshy is a powerful woodland spirit from Slavic folklore who protects the forest and punishes those who disrespect nature. This shapeshifting entity exists in a state of duality, neither wholly good nor evil, embodying the wild and unpredictable essence of the forest itself. He can control forest animals, manipulate weather, and mimic familiar voices to lure travelers deeper into the woods. Also known to have a particular fondness for vodka, tobacco, and bread as offerings. No only does he form pacts with hunters, guiding them to game as long as they continue making offerings and take only what they need, he sometimes takes children who are mistreated, unbaptized, or lost into the forest. In case you ever run into one, listen on for some protection methods, including turning clothes inside-out, walking backward, carrying iron, and leaving offerings. The core lesson of the Leshy is about respecting nature and understanding boundaries between civilization and wilderness.References:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leshyhttps://www.reddit.com/r/slavic_mythology/comments/ibek0o/the_leshy/https://www.britannica.com/topic/leshyhttps://cult-of-the-lamb.fandom.com/wiki/Leshyhttps://allthatsinteresting.com/leshyhttps://www.thoughtco.com/leshy-4774301https://www.reddit.com/r/CultOfTheLamb/comments/1kps78y/is_there_a_lore_reason_leshy_keeps_saying_this_to/https://allthatsinteresting.com/leshyhttps://www.thoughtco.com/leshy-4774301Get All Your Spiritual Supplies From Mystic Moons On Etsy, or Check out their FacebookSupport the showThe Shop's phone lines are open! Oddity Shop Origins: 400 Years of Cabinet Curiosities
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This week, your Curator Kara is finally tracing the origin of the oddity shop!We trace the fascinating 400-year history of oddity shops and cabinets of curiosities, from royal gardeners collecting exotic artifacts to modern establishments displaying genuine mummies with bullet holes. From John Tradescant the Elder created the first public oddity museum, filling his house with fossils, ancient coins, and exotic artifacts collected while working as a royal garden to Seattle's Ye Olde Curiosity Shop, which opened in 1899, and still operates today with attractions including Sylvester the mummy, confirmed through CT scans to be a real human preserved with arsenic. Modern oddity shops continue to fascinate us with their blend of history, mystery, and the macabre! What is your favorite oddity!?Join us for the Gothic Garden Party in the Flint Cemetery on October 4th if you're in the area - Victorian costumes encouraged!Refs:https://gardenmuseum.org.uk/the-museum/the-ark-gallery/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musaeum_Tradescantianumhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Tradescant_the_Elderhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Tradescant_the_Youngerhttps://lukehoney.typepad.com/the_education_of_a_garden/2012/05/the-tradescants-and-south-lambeth.htmlhttps://www.cabinet.ox.ac.uk/ordinary-visitors-evidence-handlinghttps://britisharchaeology.ashmus.ox.ac.uk/collections/history-17thcentury.htmlhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Saltero%27shttps://ukersallaboutcoffee.wordpress.com/chapter32/https://dralun.wordpress.com/2017/10/10/the-gimcrack-whim-collector-don-salteros-coffee-house-and-museum/https://bhsecglobal.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/social-life-of-coffee.pdfhttps://etheses.dur.ac.uk/14925/1/MResBRUN000832352.pdf https://www.gutenberg.org/files/41516/41516-h/41516-h.htmhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Old_Curiosity_Shophttps://www.london-walking-tours.co.uk/dickens-london/old-curiosity-shop.htmhttps://commonplace.online/article/the-old-curiosity-shop-and-the-new-antique-store/https://Get All Your Spiritual Supplies From Mystic Moons On Etsy, or Check out their FacebookSupport the showThe Shop's phone lines are open! Sundown Towns: The Horrors of Racism Still Endure
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This week, your Curator Kara is telling us all about Sundown Towns. We delve into the disturbing reality of sundown towns across America, exploring how these racially exclusive communities didn't just disappear with the Civil Rights movement but continue to exist in both explicit and implicit ways today.• Sundown towns were communities where Black people and other minorities weren't allowed after dark• These towns existed (and some still maintain these attitudes) across all regions of the U.S., not just the South• Redlining and housing discrimination worked alongside sundown policies to create lasting segregation• Personal accounts from Reddit show people experiencing sundown town hostility in recent months• Truck drivers share stories of being warned to leave certain areas before dark for their safety• The impact of these policies continues through wealth gaps, housing segregation, and cultural attitudes• Even when laws change, the mindsets and practices often remain in more subtle formsPlease share our episode about sundown towns on your social media. This isn't just history—it's happening now, and spreading awareness is one way we can work toward change.Refshttps://www.reddit.com/r/blackladies/comments/1dnp7zs/considering_sundown_towns_while_on_road_trips/?utm_source=chatgpt.comhttps://www.reddit.com/r/blackmen/comments/1j306ig/have_you_ever_had_an_experience_being_caught_in_a/?utm_source=chatgpt.comhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minden%2C_Nevada?utm_source=chatgpt.comhttps://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/1iw4ppe/serious_white_people_of_reddit_who_have_lived_in/?utm_source=chatgpt.comhttps://www.reddit.com/r/illinois/comments/1j0xw42/megathread_recording_the_history_of_illinois/?utm_source=chatgpt.comhttps://www.reddit.com/r/roadtrip/comments/1k5jvdh/does_anyone_else_worry_about_sundown_towns_when/?utm_source=chatgpt.comhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sundown_town https://justice.tougaloo.edu/sundown-towns/using-the-sundown-towns-database/state-map/ https://justice.tougaloo.edu/sundown-towns https://www.nprillinois.org/2021-08-26/what-sundown-towns-represent-for-black-drivers-today https://www.wypr.org/2021-12-22/what-sundown-towns-discriminatory-all-white-neighborhoods-represent-for-black-drivers https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sundown_townhttps://www.zinnedproject.org/materials/sundown-towns Get All Your Spiritual Supplies From Mystic Moons On Etsy, or Check out their FacebookSupport the showThe Shop's phone lines are open! Pope Lick Bridge: Dangers of Searching For The Goatman
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This week, your Curator Zach brings a strong warning, Stay off The Pope Lick Trestle. The terrifying legend of the Pope Lick Monster has claimed more lives than any other American cryptid. Not through supernatural attacks, but by luring thrill-seekers to their deaths on a deadly railroad trestle. Standing 90 feet above Pope Lick Creek in Fisherville, Kentucky, this active train bridge has become the site of dozens of tragic accidents spanning generations. We take you deep into the dark history of this notorious local legend, exploring the origins of the Goatman. The most chilling aspect of this episode isn't the monster itself, but what happens to those who seek him out. We hear from those affected by the tragedies, including the heartbreaking testimony of a train engineer who personally witnessed 43 accidents during his career. As we debate the ethics surrounding the annual Goatman Festival and the responsibilities of storytellers, railroads, and thrill-seekers, we're reminded that sometimes the most dangerous part of any legend is human curiosity. Whether you're fascinated by urban legends, cryptids, or the psychology behind risk-taking behavior, this exploration of the Pope Lick Monster offers a powerful warning about the thin line between folklore and fatal attraction.References: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Lick_Monsterhttps://www.atlasobscura.com/places/pope-lick-trestle-bridgehttps://www.islands.com/1727666/pope-lick-trestle-bridge-haunted-railroad-kentucky-thrilling-tale-folklore-eerie-legend/https://u.osu.edu/popelickmonster/reality-in-legend/https://www.courier-journal.com/story/news/local/2016/05/14/pope-lick-monster-mythical-dangers-real/83667728/Hulus: OUT THERE: Crimes of the Paranormal S1 E3Get All Your Spiritual Supplies From Mystic Moons On Etsy, or Check out their FacebookSupport the showThe Shop's phone lines are open! Waverly Hills: Kentucky's Famously Haunted Sanitarium
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This week, your Curator Kara is diving deep into the halls of Waverly HillsThe gothic spires of Waverly Hills Sanatorium pierce the Kentucky sky like a warning – some places never truly empty, even long after their residents have gone. Built in 1910 as a tuberculosis hospital, this imposing structure holds the echoes of thousands who suffered and died within its walls. What began as a modest school on a hilltop transformed into one of America's most notorious haunted locations, where pain lingers in the very bricks and mortar. The stories here are countless and chilling. Room 502, where a nurse allegedly took her own life after becoming pregnant and contracting tuberculosis. The shadow people who peer around corners on the fourth floor. The terrifying entity known as "the creeper" that crawls along walls and ceilings, sending even seasoned ghost hunters fleeing. Waverly Hills isn't just about ghosts, it's about understanding how places absorb human suffering. With estimates of 6,000-10,000 deaths during its operation, the sheer concentration of pain and loss has seemingly imprinted itself on this gothic monolith. We're already planning our return for a more immersive overnight investigation, and perhaps something special for our listeners too. Stay tuned for what awaits in the shadows of Waverly Hills – where the door to the past never fully closes.References:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waverly_Hills_Sanatoriumhttps://sanctuaireveroniquelessard.wordpress.com/english-versions/waverly-hills-sanatorium-louisville-ky-usa/https://kyhi.org/waverly-hills-patient-death-index/https://www.americanhauntingsink.com/waverlytbhttps://usghostadventures.com/americas-most-haunted-trending/hauntings-of-waverly-hills-sanatorium/https://nurseslabs.com/13-haunted-hospitals-asylums-world/3/ https://www.kcghosts.com/kentucky-waverly-hills-sanatorium/https://usghostadventures.com/americas-most-haunted-trending/hauntings-of-waverly-hills-sanatorium/https://www.reddit.com/r/Ghosts/comments/8fcrhq/waverly_hills_my_experiences_in_a_haunted/Get All Your Spiritual Supplies From Mystic Moons On Etsy, or Check out their FacebookSupport the showThe Shop's phone lines are open! Cryptid Mayhem Part 2: More Lessor Cryptids
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This week, your Curator Zach is doing a part 2 of the lessor cryptids!Hidden beneath America's seemingly ordinary landscapes lurk creatures most cryptid hunters never discuss. While Bigfoot and Mothman steal the spotlight, these lesser-known monsters deserve their moment in the moonlight.Join curators Kara and Zach as they venture into the fetid swamps of Florida to track the Skunk Ape – a bipedal, ape-like creature whose overwhelming stench of rotting meat and methane makes witnesses physically ill. Descend into the mines of Colorado where Tommyknockers – small humanoid creatures with wrinkled faces – play mischievous pranks on miners. Your skin will crawl hearing about the Qalupalik, the Arctic's answer to sirens. This horrifying Inuit legend lures children with hypnotic humming before snatching them into an underwater lair. Finally, meet Sinkhole Sam – a 15-foot snake-like creature whose legend is quietly fading in Kansas. Once drawing crowds of curious onlookers to the "Big Sinkhole," Sam is now barely remembered as drought has claimed his habitat. His touching story reminds us how cryptid legends are born, evolve, and sometimes die with changing landscapes.Which of these forgotten monsters would you most want to encounter?References: https://www.reddit.com/r/bigfoot/comments/shjdxx/my_possible_skunk_ape_encounter_2018_in_ocala/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Cryptozoology/comments/y2u4z7/sinkhole_sam_newspaper_clippings/#lightboxhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skunk_ape https://www.ebsco.com/research-starters/social-sciences-and-humanities/skunk-ape-cryptozoology https://www.skunkape.info/https://kdvr.com/news/local/tommyknockers-the-legend-that-lives-inside-colorados-mines/ https://www.legendsofamerica.com/gh-tommyknockers/https://www.jahernandez.com/posts/the-qalupalik-of-inuit-folklorehttps://cryptidz.fandom.com/wiki/The_Legend_of_Sinkhole_Samhttps://www.reddit.com/r/Cryptozoology/comments/y2u4z7/sinkhole_sam_newspaper_clippings/#lightboxGet All Your Spiritual Supplies From Mystic Moons On Etsy, or Check out their FacebookSupport the showThe Shop's phone lines are open! Time's SlipINN: Time Slips, Disappearing Inns, and Liminal Spaces
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This week, your Curator Kara is going down the Time Slip Rabbit Hole. What happens when the places we visit completely vanish from reality? That's the unsettling question at the heart of our exploration into time slips - those rare moments when people seem to step briefly into another era.The story of two British couples vacationing in France in 1979 serves as our central mystery. After staying overnight at a quaint, rustic inn with oddly outdated features, they were shocked to discover on their return journey that the entire place had disappeared without a trace. Not only was the road gone, but all photographs they'd taken at the location had mysteriously vanished from their developed film. This isn't just about a missing building – it's about what happens when reality itself seems to shift around us. We dive into several other firsthand accounts from people who've experienced similar phenomena – from a man who stopped at a gas station selling products with expiration dates from years past, to travelers who stumbled into a pub where everyone dressed in early 1900s attire and seemed shocked by their "visitors." These stories share common elements: sudden environmental changes, interactions with people who seem from another time, and the inability to ever find these places again.Have you experienced something similar? We'd love to hear your story. Call our voicemail, email us, or connect on social media to share your own encounter with the unexplainable.References:https://strangeco.blogspot.com/2020/06/the-phantom-hotel-extraordinary-time.html https://crberryauthor.com/2016/02/18/the-hotel-that-slipped-forwards-in-time-then-back-again/ https://strangerearth.blogspot.com/2008/10/another-slip-in-time-in-france.html https://www.reddit.com/r/Glitch_in_the_Matrix/comments/45ll6q/always_found_this_very_interesting_not_sure_how/ https://pocketmags.com/us/psychic-news-magazine/august-2021/articles/couples-on-holiday-stay-at-timeslip-hotel https://www.mrosborne.co.uk/authors-blog/mont-limar-time-slip https://www.scribd.com/doc/159310037/The-Mammoth-Book-of-True-Hauntings https://psi-encyclopedia.spr.ac.uk/articles/time-anomalies https://www.academia.edu/35526326/Are_Perceptions_of_Time_Slips_Explainable_by_Quantum_Mechanics_as_Random_Time_Solitons_ https://forums.forteana.org/index.php?threads/time-or-dimensional-slips.13755/ https://publicdomainreview.org/essay/an-adventure/ Get All Your Spiritual Supplies From Mystic Moons On Etsy, or Check out their FacebookSupport the showThe Shop's phone lines are open! The Roswell Incident: UFO Crash, Cover Up and Conspiracy
Welcome To The Oddity Shop, Where The Bizarre is Always on Sale. This week, your Curator Zach is covering the Infamous 1947 Roswell UFO Crash in our 150th Episode!!!!The mystery begins when pilot Kenneth Arnold spots nine crescent-shaped objects flying at impossible speeds over Washington State, coining the term "flying saucer" and kickstarting America's UFO obsession. But the story truly takes flight when rancher Mac Brazel discovers bizarre debris on his New Mexico property. When Brazel reports his findings to the Roswell Army Air Field, something extraordinary happens: the military actually announces they've captured a "flying disc" before abruptly changing their story within 24 hours, claiming it was merely a weather balloon. Major Jesse Marcel, the intelligence officer who handled the original materials, would later break his silence, stating unequivocally: "It was not anything from this Earth. I'm absolutely sure of that."We trace how this incident faded from public consciousness before roaring back to life in the 1970s with hundreds of new witnesses coming forward. We examine the government's evolving explanations, and all the bizarre inconsistencies that have kept researchers questioning the official narrative for 75+ years.Leave us a voicemail with your thoughts on Roswell or share your own otherworldly experiences!
