Staffing shortages, heightened public scrutiny, and the increasing complexity of everyday patrol situations have raised the stakes for every officer in the field. Police Chiefs and Sheriffs are being asked to do more with fewer resources. In this episode of Officer Roll Call, Bob Plaschke, CEO of PepperBall®, makes the case for why non-lethal technologies like PepperBall can be a tactical force multiplier that helps officers change behavior and gain compliance while protecting those officers and civilians from injuries and as such reducing liability for their agencies. In the final of three special episodes looking back at 2025, retired Lt. Frank Borelli, OFFICER Magazine Editor Paul Peluso and News Editor Joe Vince put the spotlight on some of their favorite stories of any year: those dealing with dumb criminal. This year's incidents include: Ohio police made an unusual discovery during a traffic stop arrest when they found a raccoon holding meth pipe inisde the vehicle. A driver tried to elude Massachusetts State Police during a vehicle pursuit by hiding in a swimming pool. Pennsylvania police were able to crack a series of gas station robberies thanks to following a trail of money left by one of the suspects. A would-be car burlgar in New Jersey was foiled by doors that jammed. A chase between an Illinois deputy and a suspect on a stolen motorcycle ended on an anti-climactic note when the bike ran out of gas. A convicted felon pretended to be a Washington police officer while at the scene of a fire.

The end of the year is a perfect time for reflection, and News Editor Joe Vince and retired Lt. Frank Borelli using the change in the calendar to look back at our favorite stories of law enforcement valor in 2025. Those examples of heroism that they are spotlighting include the following: A dramatic hostage rescue by Florida deputies, who saved a boy who was being choked by a knife-wielding man in a helmet. An Arizona police officer who fought past flames to rescue a firefighter's daughter from a burning car. This time, it's bystanders doing the rescuing when citizens rushed to help a Tesxas deputy hanging from an overpass following a crash. A quick-thinking New Mexico State Police trooper found a creative way to use a ladder and a backhoe to save a family after fast-moving flood waters flipped their car. A Georgia deputy and police officer provided a compassionate rescue of sorts by helping a homeless couple and their dogs ahead of bad weather. A Missouri police officer was shot four times while trying to detain a domestic violence suspect, and he recalls his survival and road to recovery.
