Sam Mcmicheal talks on the book by Jaak Panksepp and Lucy Bivin, Archaeology of the Human Mind. This book elaborates on the seven emotional systems that explain how we live and behave. These systems originate in deep areas of the brain that are remarkably similar across all mammalian species. What happens when they are disrupted? Music: Clare and the Reasons

July 15th Rally for Women's Rights OKC

What is happening right now in Texas is disturbing enough in its own right, but should this anti-woman legislation succeed, it will become a model for anti-choice forces nationally (indeed, this is already happening). If the battle in Texas is unsuccessful it is very likely we will see an onslaught of attacks on reproductive rights in Oklahoma and around the country. We have to stand with the activists on the ground in Austin and beyond.

    The NSA Thing: Un-elected Government

Here’s a thought for ya. What if this is not big governments’ national security–the NSA thing? What if this is big corporation and contractor’s national security? What if the Big Brother that is supposed to or not supposed to be watching us is not our government but Unelected Government let loose by those in Washington paid for by big money?

    Not Voting

I hate it when people brag about not voting. Their attitude is that the political process is all bullshit, the people have no power to change it, and the answer is to just sit this shit out and wait until all of enormous crowds of protesters and signs take down our current system and replace it with something super awesome that they can’t even begin to describe because they don’t even fucking know. They don’t know. It’s cool if they don’t want to vote, but they need to shut the fuck up about how great they are for not doing it. Just shut up. It’s not something you should be proud of. It’s not a tactic. It’s just you not voting. I feel better having said this.

    What Republicans Want

Republican women, I don’t understand your attraction this party, but I’m guessing you’re not anti-choice. I’m guessing you do not want the government making decisions for you and your daughters or, at the very least, I am sure that you are helluva tired of hearing this shit. You should call your representatives and send them emails. They’re going to listen to what you have to say, and all you have to say is “Don’t do it. It’s terrible legislation that will probably be shot down after an expensive time in court, and it is not a good tactic for attracting voters because we are no longer interested in hearing what you have to say about the way we live our individual lives. We are free people, and we do not need to be controlled, and we can not BE controlled, so quit wasting our time. There are more important things to worry about right now than whether or not women who need abortions are being tormented enough.

    NRA: Failure to Communicate

I’ll tell you one thing that makes conversation and cooperation pretty difficult is a gun. Nothing shifts dialogue into monologue faster than the promise of violence. A gun is the promise of violence, no matter whose hand it is in. Jesus Christ said if we live by the sword, we will die by the sword. Right now, we are living by the gun, and we are dying by the gun. And there is no way to opt out. I don’t know how to solve the problem, but it is a problem. I want us all to agree that it is a problem. I do not want to live by the gun. I do not want to live in conflict, in competition and fear. I don’t want war. War on drugs, war on women, war on terror. I don’t want it.

    Episode 10: The Renaissance

Why not hate the Renaissance? Why love it? Some politicians these days don’t care too much for the re-birth of Europe (1330-1550) Some like Bachmann even say that today’s problems in the US can be traced directly back to the Renaissance. Others say maybe these folks have read too much Francis Schaeffer. “A number of Christian leaders, authors, and evangelists credit Schaeffer’s ideas with helping spark the rise of the Christian Right in the United States and were strongly influenced by him. Among them are Operation Rescue founder Randall Terry, Focus on the Family‘s James Dobson, the 700 Club‘s Pat Robertson, Prison Fellowship‘s Charles Colson, columnist Cal Thomas, preacher and author Tim LaHaye, former Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris, and Liberty University and Moral Majority founder Jerry Falwell.” — Wiki. Let us bring everything including religious beliefs into the realm of power and taxes. Here’s a thought: maybe some folks today want to be exempt from paying taxes. Maybe these same folks wish not to stick the paying of taxes to themselves—the rich and politically powerful—in a fair and just manner. Instead, they may wish to shackle the less powerful working middle class with the entire burden while still holding to the slogan that “We are all in this together.” But, dang it, due to the Renaissance serfdom became increasingly unpopular in most of Western Europe and eventually much the new world—not a happy turn of events if you are one of the rich and politically powerful. If one must know, a serf in addition to being property was part of the land. Included in the role as Lord’s assets in the pre-Renaissance years, serfs paid all the taxes.

Episode 9: Mother Earth Laws and Citizens United

Climate change is hard. Environment studies equal sophisticated sci-fi contraption devises that few have access to. How can we trust the internet or TV news to not be lying? At the moment, in North America it’s difficult to definitively see too much changing climate that can’t be attributed to a bad year. We’re just not feeling it yet or we’re feeling it as a temporary unpleasantness that will pass if we sit and wait awhile. Our hope in sitting is that climate change talk, too, will pass with time. The solution to climate change is easy, just don’t talk about it. Instead, let’s divert attention to stuff that doesn’t require a lot of pie charts, measuring sticks, barometers, Geiger counters, statistics, or thermometers. So, let’s do that. Today, we will NOT be talking about climate change. Let’s talk about Law. Specifically, the laws proposed by Bolivian citizens, (“Ley de Derechos de La Madre Tierra” as contrasted with the Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. Episode 8: Fate and Destiny. Femen. Henry Ford

A barista person that I did not know asked another barista person (again someone I did not know) to describe the difference between fate and destiny. These two coffee experts where at the same time whipping up coffee for me at what can only be described as the best coffee shop in Oklahoma City, the Red Cup. I did tip well for the superb service, so I felt all right about being a coffee shop conversation interloper. The question was raised, “What is the difference between Fate and Destiny?

    Episode 7: Femen

FEMEN is a Ukrainian protest group based in Kiev. They organize topless protests in response to sex tourism–sex tours– and international marriage agencies in the Ukraine. Since 2008, Femen has been working against sex exploitation of women. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, citizens have worked against forces creating conditions that have left the Ukraine labeled, the Bangkok of Europe. Thanks to Le Flying Saucer Hat for the cool tune. Additional Femen audio is from Russia Today.

    Episode 6: Guns Guns Guns

I once was at a party where all in attendance were Republicans. Naturally, the subject of guns was raised. So I told a joke that went something like this: “Well, I think everyone with a gun should be shot.” There swept over the assemblage a brief astronomical silence. Even though the joke wasn’t all that hilarious, they got mad. When I explained the joke to them they got even more annoyed. One said that he got it; yet I wasn’t sure: ”The person shooting the gun-persons would have to be shot as well,” I said slowly, “then someone would have to shoot the person who shot that person, then someone would have to shoot that person, then on and on, ad infinitum, till the ridiculousness was realized. -- Terry Gresham Thanks to the CSC Funk Band for Bad Banana Bread

    Episode 3: Henry Ford.Roasted.

When Henry Ford, founder of the Ford Motor Company, wrote his book, The International Jew, he did not know that I would one day be making this podcast. Most likely, he had other things on his mind. I would not be born until 1960. 2012 would not come for a while so he could write all day and all night without care, undisturbed by me. Ford even built things that were driven, like him. Oh, how he must have worked till he wrote a book–a book that expressed what it must have meant to be him, a book that would one day be looked at by me who would in turn realize a few things about him. Thanks to The Intergalactic Experience for Emily Dickinson and Sylvia Plath

Episode 2: Zombie Lie Tom Cole

Cole must be wishing that Oklahomans will run and scream in horror on command but Crocks and Liars calls this a Zombie Lie. A Zombie Lie is: n. A false statement that keeps getting repeated no matter how often it has been refuted. So lets refute it one more time but this time let’s refute it at Congressman Cole who keeps this lie moving somehow. Thanks to Party People in a Can for Surfing with My Two Little Brothers tune
