About Charles Wright Best known as the leader of `70s soul group The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band and the composer of the resourcefully recycled R&B smash “Express Yourself,” Charles Wright has evolved into a tireless watchdog of African American history. Mr. Wright is author of the richly engrossing “Up From Where We’ve Come”: his first in a 3-part series of autobiographies – this one detailing his childhood in a family of. This 2016 release is available as a physical book, a digital download and an audio book. Charles Wright was born and raised near Clarksdale, Mississippi. After his family moved to Los Angeles, Charles discovered music at Manual Arts High School, shortly after taking up singing, songwriting and playing guitar. He worked a few manual labor jobs including the pressing plant at Top Records before singing in doo-wop groups The Twilighters, The Galahads and The Shields [which also included Jesse Belvin with Johnny “Guitar” Watson accompanying, who scored a hit with “You Cheated” (#11 R&B / #12 Pop)]. Charles was briefly A&R Director at Del-Fi Records where he co-produced the1961 hit “Those Oldies but Goodies (Remind Me of You)” by Little Caesar and the Romans. By 1964, he formed Charles Wright & the Wright Sounds (Barry White played the drums for them briefly) that evolved into Charles Wright & The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band which included drummer James Gadson (lead singer of their hit “Loveland”) and guitarist Al McKay (later a key member of Earth Wind & Fire). Initially backing comedian Bill Cosby, this 8-piece ensemble of rhythm and horns became the first R&B band signed to Warner Bros. Records. Charles’ and the band’s best known number is the international crossover smash “Express Yourself” (#3 R&B / #12 Pop), written, arranged and sung by Charles. Since the Summer of `70, the Grammy-nominated song has enjoyed a long and lucrative life for Wright; sampled by many rap artists (including groundbreaking “Straight Outta Compton” gangster rappers N.W.A); utilized in dozens of commercials for everything from Burger King fast food in America to Bitburger beer in Germany; used in many movies (including “Mr. & Mrs. Smith”); and, in sports, has been used by the PGA, the Summer Olympics and the NBA. Wright also re-arranged “Express Yourself” for a public service campaign as “Protect Yourself,” a message to youth to use condoms that he performed at the first “AIDS Walk Circle of Life Concert.” 1969’s “Do Your Thing” (a masterful edit of a jam recorded live at the Haunted House club in Hollywood in 1967), was memorably utilized in the 1997 film “Boogie Nights” (set in the 1977 world of big screen XXX-rated movie making). Charles Wright recorded five LPs with the band and one solo LP for Warner Bros. (Poetry & Rhythm – 1972) followed by three for ABC-Dunhill. In the `90s, Wright started his own label, A Million Dollars’ Worth of Memories Records, through which he has released ten CDs. The 2014 CD Let’s Make Love Tonight featured the single/video “I’ll Give You Time.” His latest CD, Something to Make You Feel Good, was released in spring of 2016 featuring the single/video “She Don’t Believe In Love” as well as the pre-release video “Looking For an Ugly Woman.” The company also released the concert DVD “Live at The Ford Theater.” The video department of Charles’ company produced a documentary, “Bring Back the Harmony,” which follows Wright in his quest to return music education to the school system. It also produced 30 half-hour episodes of an interview show entitled “Express Yourself” showcasing the lives and careers of celebrities from rock and roll pioneer Little Richard to Hollywood actor James McEachin. Still going strong, Charles possesses a wealth of knowledge, experience and anecdotes – humorous to profound – that make him a compelling personality for interviews, panels and multi-media platforms. The first single from the album, "State of Attraction" peaked at #6 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 16 weeks, making it her highest chart appearance to date. The follow-up single, "Stay Here, Stay Near" peaked at #50 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 9 weeks. In 1992, Rhonda released her self-titled sophomore album. It's unknown how or if the album ever charted. Rhonda's first single from the album, "(If Loving You is Wrong) I Don't Want to Be Right", a remake of the Millie Jackson classic peaked at #26 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 13 weeks.The follow-up single from the album, "Must Be Real Love" peaked at #28 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 10 weeks. In 2004, she released her third album, "You Touch Me." In 2009, Rhonda released her new single, "Papers" which is now available on Amazon.com. She is still active in the music business.

On this Episode Brandon interviews Jody Mortara. Jody, is an actress, writer and producer in Television and Film. She has been a board member of the Los Angeles Veterans Committee as the Entertainment Chair and sat on the board of the Combat Vets for Congress with Joseph R. Johns, USNA ’62. Jody’s goal in the film and television industry is to be a source of uplifting, fun, engaging entertainment whether that is manifested in a program to showcase and educate the public about a specific community, or just to entertain through films and television shows. As a singer/songwriter, Jody has recorded two cd’s and is working on her third, which is entirely comprised of her original contemporary jazz music. She has worked with producers Freddie Ravel (producer/pianist with George Benson and Al Jarreau), and Randy Emata. On her recent film that she wrote, starred in, co-directed, she also was the post supervising producer where she worked hand in hand with the composer in creating the score for her film, "Cocoa". Some of her producing credits in film and TV are; “Hunter’s Moon, “The Appearing” (distributed by Lionsgate) and “Vertical”, "People on a Park Bench" with Armand Mastroianni and Candice Azzara, "Needs to Bake" , “My Family Circus”(which will begin filming August, 2016). Her clients for producing video games and corporate content include: SEGA, INTEL, COMCAST, Crystal Dynamics, Trip Hawkins of Electronic Arts, Breene Kerr Productions. Jody also acquired the funds for the ‘raise’ of a public film company (UNFC, United National Film Corporation) where she acted as COO for the film division. She also secured the funds for the feature film “The Appearing”, “After the Truth” and “Traders” and for her film, "Cocoa". Jody has produced and shot pilots for three of her TV shows and sizzles for her show, “US”, “Needs to Bake” and “The Crew’s Inn”. Freestyle and Dance iCon Stevie B has just released hit newest single “Take It All Back” featuring multi-platinum recording artist Pitbull remixed by DJ Sama.  A new era of dance music was born when Miami native Stevie B’s first independently released single “Party Your Body” hit South Florida’s glittering club scene in 1987. After years spent paying his dues doing everything from mowing lawns to washing cars, Stevie B’s skills as a writer, producer and performer thrust him into the pop spotlight. “Party Your Body” worked it’s way across America, eventually selling over 200,000 copies, an amazing achievement for an independently released single. This success paved the way for Stevie’s debut album “Party Your Body.” The album gave birth to two more hit singles, “Dreaming of Love” and “Spring Love”, which propelled the album to RIAA Platinum status. In 1989, Stevie B’s sophomore effort “In My Eyes” showed him growing as an artist, as the album took on a much more sophisticated flavor. In addition to his trademark dance songs, the album also featured smooth and soulful ballads and giddy pop tunes. “I Wanna Be The One” solidified Stevie’s crossover into the pop market as the song rose into the Billboard Top 40. However, it was the power ballad “Love Me For Life” that took Stevie all the way into the Top 10 and made him the artist with the highest debuting song in the history of R&R magazine. Like it’s predecessor, “In My Eyes” went onto RIAA Platinum status, setting the stage for Stevie B to become a household name worldwide.  Though the record debuted in the Top 10, “Love & Emotion” was released in 1990 to little fanfare. In fact, it was largely ignored until radio stations began getting barraged with requests for “that song about the postman.” That song of course was “Because I Love You” (The Postman Song) and it would be a highlight and pinnacle for Stevie B taking the Number One spot on Billboard, and remaining there four consecutive weeks.  “Love & Emotion” also garnered RIAA Platinum status. Stevie B’s career has been a whirlwind of success, with three RIAA Platinum albums containing a total of thirteen Top 40 dance and/or pop singles and one Classic #1 Hit.
