My Career Story From 2007 Until Now | #OnTrackWithLF S3 E17
This is my career story. Once upon a time, I was just a ‘nerdy teacher's pet' grappling with the decision of going to university or following an unconventional path. Today I run a successful international consulting business off the back of what’s been a pretty interesting career. I've come a long way from my first job as a receptionist in 2007! From long hours in finance to co-founding successful businesses in New Zealand, I've learned that saying yes to opportunities and showing that you want to contribute value is a winning combination.

The Joy of Hobbies and Life Outside Work | #OnTrackWithLF S3 E16
Today we're taking a deep look at the societal pressures that equate self-worth to career success, and challenging the narrative that your job should be your ultimate passion. This episode explores the psychological benefits of hobbies, and how they can lead to personal growth, new relationships, and provide a sanctuary from external pressures, and considers a perspective that I don’t often hear talked about - that work can simply be an enabler for pursuing your passions outside of work. I also share my personal journey of rediscovering the joy of hobbies outside of work despite already learning the lesson of the importance of doing so before, and how I’ve been learning to play the pipe organ!

You Don’t Want That, You Want The Way That Makes You Feel | #OnTrackWithLF S3 E13
What if the one thing you thought you wanted most in life turned out not to be a thing at all, but a feeling? In this episode I cover how we often mistake our longing for feelings of accomplishment, security, and beauty for a pursuit of just material possessions themselves. Even money, houses, cars - once our basic human needs are met, it’s not these items we crave, but in fact the feelings they represent. I posted a short video about this on TikTok which went viral, and got me a ton of subscribers on YouTube - and here I unpack the thoughts behind that video a bit and challenge you to consider how you can give yourself the gift of the feelings you think you might get from some of the things you want, today. (0:00:00) - Prioritizing Feelings Over Material Possessions (4 Minutes) Discuss the idea of wanting the feelings that come with material things rather than the things themselves. Financial security is a need, not a want, and if you are living in a first world country and have a job and roof over your head, this concept can still be beneficial to you. Here we address the elephant in the room and clear up any confusion about money and needs vs. wants. (0:03:52) - Seeking Feelings in Material Things (7 Minutes) We explore the idea of wanting the feelings that come with material things rather than the things themselves. We use financial security as an example of a need and discuss how it can make us feel secure and safe. We move on to talk about houses, cars, and toys and how they can make us feel a sense of accomplishment, flexibility, or even being a good parent. We then examine the idea of why these material things should not be the source of our fulfillment and happiness. Lastly, we discuss the importance of seeking those feelings elsewhere and what happens if we can't find those feelings. (0:11:08) - Joy of Feeling Accomplished and Beautiful (1 Minutes) We explore the idea that instead of buying material things to make ourselves happy, we should focus on the feelings that come with those things. We discuss ways to give ourselves the gift of feeling that today.

Rising Above Tall Poppy Syndrome: A Path to Embracing Success | #OnTrackWithLF S3 E8
Do you ever feel like your success is met with resentment and criticism instead of support and admiration? I'm tackling a crucial topic today: Tall Poppy Syndrome - the damaging social phenomenon where successful individuals are criticized, alienated, and ultimately "cut down" - which threatens to stifle ambition and innovation in the next generation. Join me as I trace the origin of this social issue back to ancient Roman mythology and explore its negative effects on individuals and society as a whole, but most importantly what we can do to combat it! With inspiration from Sir Ray Avery, Jay Geldard, and Israel Adesanya, I discuss the responsibility of the media in perpetuating Tall Poppy Syndrome and how businesses, organizations, and the wider community can help create a cultural shift to change mindsets. I also examine the impact of this phenomenon on mental health and ambition, ultimately offering solutions on how we can all combat Tall Poppy Syndrome and embrace success. Don't miss this crucial conversation; together, we can pave the way for a more supportive and uplifting future. Tall Poppy Syndrome, Social Phenomenon, Ancient Roman Mythology, Mental Health, Ambition, Innovation, Media, Cultural Change, Adrian Portelli, Sir Ray Avery, Jay Geldard, Israel Adesanya --------- CHAPTERS --------- (0:00:04) - Tackling Tall Poppy Syndrome (5 Minutes) Today we’re talking about Tall Poppy Syndrome - a social phenomenon characterised by successful or high achieving people being criticised, alienated, resented and ultimately cut down. We're not having a whinge, we're just really worried about the next generation and what it's potentially going to do to them. We trace the origin of Tall Poppy Syndrome to an ancient Roman mythology, where Tarquinius took his son, Sextus Tarquinius, to the gardens and, using his staff, demonstrated that by cutting off the tallest poppies, one could prevent them from overshadowing the others. We also discuss the negative effects of Tall Poppy Syndrome and ways to combat it. (0:05:02) - The Impact of Tall Poppy Syndrome (11 Minutes) Today, we're exploring the impact of Tall Poppy Syndrome on New Zealand society. We discuss how this phenomenon can discourage ambition and innovation, stifle personal and professional growth, and hinder societal progress. We also look at the detrimental effect it can have on mental health and how, in some cases, it has resulted in people feeling unsafe in their own country. (0:15:40) - Overcoming Tall Poppy Syndrome (6 Minutes) We explore the responsibility of the media in perpetuating Tall Poppy Syndrome, and how businesses, organizations, and the wider community can help create a cultural change to shift mindsets. Successful but Miserable? Finding Happiness Beyond Societal Expectations
Does this ring a bell? Some people seem to be blessed looking in from the outside when in fact they're miserable. Others are miserable because they want to be as externally blessed as others they see, but aren't! In this episode, I dive into the concept of being externally blessed but still miserable, which is essentially when people achieve material success but remain unhappy. I discuss how society often conditions us to follow a certain path that leads to accumulating possessions and reaching milestones that may not necessarily bring lasting happiness or fulfillment. And who's breaking this mold? Gen Z certainly are, as well as Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus, known together as "The Minimalists". They break this mold by focusing on experiences and living more minimalist lifestyles. We also explore the importance of finding contentment and sustained fulfillment through personal passions rather than chasing material success. Join me as we uncover ways to find happiness beyond societal expectations and create a more fulfilling life. A pilot of the podcast that’ll help you start living the life you actually want
Two years ago I launched a podcast on my birthday in January, but a few short months later the world was taken over by a certain virus, which made me re-think the very blunt tone I took in this show! Before I knew it, my business took off in a direction I didn't expect and my attention was turned elsewhere. Fast forward to 2021 and I bought an apartment on New Zealand's international race track, Hampton Downs, to house my new podcast studio - 13 days before a nationwide lockdown stopped us from going out there to film episodes 😂 But the obstacle is the way, and here we are finally, 2 years from the original launch date, with a show that's going to be even more epic than the original. I can't wait to yarn with you all about mindset and motivation, success, confidence, money, goals, and all the fun shit that makes life sparkly. Enjoy this pilot episode and lookout for episode 1 coming on Friday 28th Jan! Follow me on Instagram @lanifogelberg

The Person Behind The Podcast: Your Questions About Me Answered

Financial Lessons We Can Learn From The Pandemic
Some of the best lessons come from adversity, and I think it's fair to say the pandemic will be a bit of a financial wake up call for many people. For those who are willing to take a good hard look at their habits and priorities, these lessons will serve them well to become more financially resilient in the future. That's not to dismiss the severity of the situation for those who've lost their livelihood, but I think if you're listening to this episode, you're in a place of acceptance and learning, rather than a place of victimization. Here are the 4 lessons I see coming out of the pandemic and what steps you can take to be better off in the future. Anti-Accumulation & Proud: Why Minimalism Creates Space For Success
Why must we accumulate more and more just because we have the financial means? I'm anti-accumulation and I'm proud of it, but usually that shocks people. If I can afford it, why not? That's not the mentality I have and because I don't, it creates so much more time and energy for the things that are truly meaningful to me in life. In today's episode I discuss physical minimalism - owning fewer possessions and creating physical space. I share a little bit of my own story, and next week go into the benefits of time minimalism. Energy to Action Part 2: Increase & Protect Your Energy
This episode is part 2 of a 2-part episode series explaining two "snakes" that can prevent you from converting your energy into action, which I spoke about in S1E2 (Clarity, Meaning, Energy & Action: Climbing The Action Ladder & Avoiding Snakes). How can you go forth and conquer when you feel tired and drained? It's a simple concept to grasp - we need the energy to do the things! Physical energy can be impacted by our physical actions, as well as our thoughts and our environment. I have a lot of experience on this topic having suffered from extreme burnout in 2019 and very quickly realising the things that contributed to it, so if you're not feeling your best there are some great lessons in this episode. I talk about the absolute fundamentals of protecting and increasing your physical energy, as well as the ways people wouldn't necessarily expect, particularly around thoughts and values. Energy to Action Part 1: Put Paralysis By Analysis In Your Past
This episode is part 1 of a 2-part episode series explaining two "snakes" that can prevent you from converting your energy into action, which I spoke about in S1E2 (Clarity, Meaning, Energy & Action: Climbing The Action Ladder & Avoiding Snakes). When you're ready to take action on something it's easy to start overthinking your plan or your strategy and end up suffering from paralysis by analysis - PBA! - putting you back to square one and leaving you feeling unclear. So what can you do to prevent this from happening? Learn and start practising the ways to trick your mind OUT of PBA. Learning to Love Uncertainty: Courageously Embrace the Unknown
Life is full of twists and turns and often we have no idea what's around the corner! Uncertainty means a lack of predictability, consistency, and feeling unsure, and for many people it's an uncomfortable place to be. Some choose to escape it, and some choose to face it head on, which is what I'm going to make a case for doing in this episode, as well as provide some tips on how to do it. Being able to embrace uncertainty really gets you thinking more expansively, and more open to opportunities that you might not have considered before. It's time to get comfortable with being uncomfortable and learn to love uncertainty! Follow @ohheylife.podcast on Instagram --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ohheylife/message

Time Management in Disguise: It's Time to Start Managing Yourself
Planning, batching, eliminating the unnecessary. From the outside these look like time management tools, but is there even such a thing? What if it's time to stop managing time, and start managing yourself? In today's episode I reveal what strategies enable me to juggle all my projects and hobbies, and why having the time to do so is more about looking inwards at myself, not at the clock. Stop Acting Your Age, Adulting is a Fallacy!
Have you ever felt limited by having to "act your age"? Living inside the constraints of what society considers "adulting" can really limit the happiness and contentment you experience in your life! In this episode I explore the idea that adulting is a societal construct and why I believe it is a complete and utter fallacy! I did say this podcast would question the status quo, right?
