Episode 4: Let's Talk About It. Sport and Mental Health 💚

In this episode, we are talking about sport, physical activity and mental health. We sit down with Sarah, who holds a BA in Psychology, to talk about what mental health looks like in Malawi, how sport can be a powerful tool for our wellbeing, and what athletes may be dealing with behind the scenes. We also hear from Loveness "Nyaksy" Nyakamera, who played football professionally and represented Malawi with the Scorchers, on the mental side of competing at the highest level. Throughout the episode, we are reminded that taking care of our mental health is not a luxury. It is essential. And sometimes the first and hardest step is simply opening up to someone and saying you need help. This year's Mental Health Awareness Month theme is 'More Good Days Together', and more good days together start with that conversation. If you or someone you know needs support, you can find a list of mental health practitioners working in Malawi on the mental wellbeing resources here 👉🏾 https://mhlec.com/resources/. Be kind to yourselves 💚 TIMESTAMPS Intro - 0:00 Chat with Sarah - 1:30 Recap of Chat with Sarah - 17:43 Chat with Nyaksy - 19:19 Outro - 28:19

Happy New Year! 🥳 In this episode, we are grabbing our controllers and levelling up on all things esports 🎮 We chat with Pretoria Kalimba, who brought home the gold in eFootball for Malawi at the Region 5 Games in 2025 🥇 TIMESTAMPS Intro - 0:00 Chat with Pretoria- 2:15 The Rundown, 2025 in Review - 19:15 Outro - 24:06 I’ll blame it on the "holiday brain," but I caught a couple of slip-ups in the recording that I wanted to clear up for you: 1:15 | The Big Bucks 🤑: When I mentioned the value of the Esports market as reported by CNBC Africa, the currency used was USD. Those are some serious numbers for the game! 22:11 | Wrong Ball Game 🤦🏾‍♀️: The Africa Netball Cup had netball teams competing, not football teams, as most of you probably guessed 🏐
