Replay: Pete Murano
Pete Murano was raised all across America. Born in the Northeast, he moved to St. Louis and finally settled in New Orleans, Louisiana. He developed an attachment to an equally nomadic music form, the blues, at an early age. Starting on saxophone at age 11, he began teaching himself to play guitar as a teenager. Murano's music then underwent a natural evolution as he began to explore R&B and rock. Finding himself drawn to the sights and sounds of the Crescent City, Murano soon relocated to New Orleans. The next piece of his musical maturation would stem directly from the influence of his new home. Murano began learning the standards, becoming a working musician in the dimly lit clubs of the city's fabled Frenchmen street. In 2003, Murano joined forces with Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue. Here, he developed a sound that was all his own, combining elements of rock, funk, and R&B. With Shorty, Murano has written, recorded, and toured the world extensively. His sound on guitar is often raw and distorted, yet soulful. Now, on his first solo release, he embraces that sound as it vibrates into the world. Pete also runs the Apollo Clinic which brings local youth into the studio to learn about the process of making music alongside Grammy nominated and Grammy award winning musicians and engineers. In Part 2 of this two-part conversation, host Leroy "Whistle Monsta" Mitchell sits down with his friend Jeff Duncan. Jeff is the sports columnist for The Times-Picayune/NOLA.com, FOX 8 analyst, and the journalist who has covered the New Orleans Saints longer than anyone in the country. Jeff and Leroy also talk about the joy of the @NewOrleansSaints return to the @caesarsdome after Hurricane Katrina. Jeff shares his experience of attending the @U2official and @GreenDay rehearsal for the pregame festivities, and shares a fun story about Steve and Michel that happened later that night after the game. Jeff Duncan Pt. 1 - Nick Saban, LSU, Steve Gleason, Buddy D, & the Night the Saints Came Back
Part 1 of 2. Host Leroy "Whistle Monsta" Mitchell sits down with longtime friend Jeff Duncan — sports columnist for The Times-Picayune/NOLA.com and the longest-tenured Saints beat writer in America. Jeff traces his unlikely path from a wildlife management major at Eastern Kentucky University to the newsrooms of Louisville, Monroe, and eventually New Orleans. He details breaking the Nick Saban to LSU story by chasing a single anonymous message board post — and the phone call that confirmed everything without a word being said. He also opens up about co-writing Steve Gleason's 2024 memoir A Life Impossible: Living with ALS, and what it was like to watch a man he'd known since the locker room days become one of the most inspiring figures in the country. Leroy closes the episode with a deeply personal reflection on the night of the Saints' return to the Superdome after Katrina — the blocked punt, the tears, and what it felt like for a city to exhale together. Stay tuned for Part 2. Subscribe for weekly inspiring interviews, community stories, and positive news. Chef Will Avelar - From Emeril's Kitchen to Mawi Tortillas
On Episode 75 of the Only Good Vibes News Network, host Leroy "Whistle Monsta" Mitchell sits down with his longtime friend, Chef Will Avelar. Will is a New Orleans native, Grace King and Delgado alum, and one of the most genuine success stories this city's food scene has produced. Will's journey reads like it was written for the screen. He walked into his first restaurant job not even knowing what a busboy was and just figured it out. That fearlessness and hunger to learn carried him through every station in the kitchen, from dishwasher to line cook, butcher to saucier, all the way through nearly 15 years inside Emeril Lagasse's restaurant organization. He worked at Emeril's Delmonico, NOLA Restaurant, and eventually rose to Chef de Cuisine at Meril, Emeril's Warehouse District restaurant. Then Will did what only the truly loyal and fearless do. He walked away from the top spot to bet on his family. Together with his father Carlos and brother Fernando, Will built Mawi Tortillas, starting as a small wholesale tortilla bakery in Metairie, then pivoting during COVID to pupusas and birria tacos that went viral on Instagram. What started as a family hustle has grown into one of the most beloved Latin American restaurants in the New Orleans area. And in 2025, Mawi expanded to Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Leroy and Will also get into the 2009 Saints Super Bowl season, the Zen card that set the tone for the whole conversation - loyalty - and why walking in the path of your own heart is the only way to truly win. Ben Collier - Ben's Burgers and Cyborg Saint
In New Orleans, food and Saints football is a passion and a lifestyle. And nobody lives it harder than Ben Collier. On this episode of the Only Good Vibes News Network, host Leroy "Whistle Monsta" Mitchell sits down with Ben Collier - better known to Saints Nation as Cyborg Saint, one of the most recognizable superfans in the entire NFL. But there's way more to Ben than the costume. He's also the owner of Ben's Burgers, the beloved chargrilled burger joint at 2008 Clearview Parkway in Metairie. Ben's superfan alter-ego, Cyborg Saint, was born on Halloween night 2010, when Ben got tickets to a game, decided to show up in costume, and never looked back. As a kid he always made his own costumes - cutting car floor mats into pads, building a black and gold superhero suit from scratch. What started as one night of fun turned into a full superfan identity, with Ben earning season tickets, suiting up for every home game, and joining a krewe of superfans who travel together and even attend the Superfan Hall of Fame in Ohio every summer. Off the field, Ben built Ben's Burgers into its own thing - chargrilled burgers, chicken sandwiches, smoked sausage, chili cheese fries, shakes, and a homemade hickory smoked BBQ sauce and fry sauce that people come back for again and again. His signature sandwich? The Big Ben. This is a conversation about fandom, entrepreneurship, community, and what it means to go all in on the things you love - in the greatest place on earth. Who Dat! Michael Guidry - Punk Rock Audubon
On this episode, host Leroy "Whistle Monsta" Mitchell welcomes Michael Guidry — New Orleans oil painter, Louisiana marsh devotee, and the artist critics have called "the punk rock Audubon." Trained at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts and LSU, Guidry builds richly layered compositions on wood, burlap, canvas, and aluminum — inspired by time spent at his fishing camp in the South Louisiana salt marsh. From albino alligators to bayou wildlife to the myths and memories of personal experience in the natural world, his work is bold, vibrant, and distinctly New Orleans. A fascinating conversation about art, life, and seeing the world a little differently. See his work at mguidrystudio.com. On Episode 70 of the Only Good Vibes News Network, host Leroy "Whistle Monsta" Mitchell sits down with Jena Housman (Board Treasurer), Shel Roumillat (Creative Reuse Store Manager), and Julie Lodato (Project Management & Marketing) from RicRACK — a New Orleans-based 501(c)3 nonprofit that's been transforming textile waste into opportunity for 15 years. Jazz Fest Takeover! Only in the Green Room, Jamie Bernstein, and Whistle Monsta

Pete Murano - Guitarist (Trombone Shorty) and Founder of the Apollo Clinic
Greg Ravy and Laney Chouest - Heroes of New Orleans
Whistle Monsta welcomes Heroes of New Orleans' Greg Ravy and Laney Chouest to the fan cave for Only Good Vibes News Network. Founded in 2016 by Algiers native Gregory Ravy, Heroes of New Orleans began with a simple but powerful mission: to give opportunities to disadvantaged youth and families in the community where Gregory was born and raised. Growing up on New Orleans' West Bank, Gregory witnessed the challenges facing underserved communities—limited access to quality programs, economic barriers, and systemic gaps that prevented talented young people from reaching their potential. He founded Heroes of New Orleans to change that reality. Since 2016, we've grown from a grassroots organization to a comprehensive community institution that has impacted over 10,000 families through stipend-paid programs, vital resources, and community initiatives. Today, we operate two locations serving thousands of youth and families annually with programs spanning STEM education, workforce development, entrepreneurship training, mental health support, and essential resource distribution. Heroes of New Orleans remains committed to bridging gaps and ensuring that underserved communities have sustainable resources and support—staying true to our founder's vision, that every young person deserves access to opportunities that help them build the future they deserve. Devin Snow - Hold the Mayo
Whistle Monsta and Jamie Bernstein welcome Devin Snow to the fan cave for Only Good Vibes News Network. Devin Snow is a New Orleans-area food influencer best known for his weekly series “RB&R Day” (Red Beans & Rice Day), where he travels across Louisiana and beyond sampling red beans and rice from mom-and-pop restaurants, corner stores, and hot plate lunch spots. What started as a college love for red beans & rice turned into a thriving social media presence after he launched a humor blog and later quit his car sales job to pursue content creation full-time. Snow’s authentic, unscripted approach to food reviews and his celebration of a New Orleans staple dish have earned him a large following and brand partnerships, all built on highlighting local eateries and genuine experiences rather than rankings or tourist favorites. Tracy Parker - Nurse Practitioner - New Orleans Musicians' Clinic
Whistle Monsta and Jamie Bernstein welcome Tracy Parket to the fan cave for Only Good Vibes News Network. Tracy Parker, FNP-BC, embodies a spirit of compassion and dedication shaped by her life experiences and her connection to New Orleans. Originally hailing from Morgan City, Louisiana, Tracy's path to becoming a nurse practitioner was deeply influenced by her childhood and personal challenges. "I always took on a caregiving role since I was young," Tracy reflects a sentiment rooted in her upbringing as the eldest child in a complex family. She received her undergraduate BSN-RN degree from University of Southwestern Louisiana (now UL) in 1994 and master's degree from University of Arkansas for Medical Science in 1998. Familial ties and a sense of calling drove her journey to New Orleans in 2011. "New Orleans drew me here," Tracy shares, recounting how she followed her son to the city after her divorce. Initially involved in nonprofit youth healthcare, she later transitioned to cardiology and electrophysiology, where she felt she could make a deeper impact. In 2024, Tracy was asked by the LSU New Orleans Musicians' Clinic to become the new clinician when the practice closed at LSU, she joined St. Thomas Community Health Clinic and continued to see her patients there. New Orleans holds a special place in Tracy's heart due to its cultural richness and inclusivity. "It's such a non-judgmental place," Tracy observes, “everyone is free to be their most authentic selves in a way I’ve never seen anywhere else.” She speaks passionately about the sense of community at St. Thomas, describing it as a welcoming family that embraces diversity and authenticity. Tracy's role extends beyond medical practice; it embodies her personal ethos of compassion and service. "I come from a humble background," Tracy acknowledges, noting her empathy stems from personal experiences of overcoming challenges and loss. This empathy shapes her approach to patient care, ensuring each individual feels heard and understood. Tracy continues her mission of providing accessible and quality healthcare to her patients. She remains actively involved in ministry and participates in annual church medical mission trips, demonstrating her dedication to community, service, and holistic healing. Outside of her work, you may also catch her at a local concert or art market due to her love of music and the arts for their ability to bring people together and enhance emotional well-being, viewing them as essential components of community and personal enrichment. Tracy’s journey as a nurse practitioner exemplifies dedication, empathy, and a steadfast commitment to holistic healthcare reflects her belief in treating the whole person, enhancing both physical and emotional well-being. As Tracy continues to make a difference in the lives of her patients and community, her story inspires aspiring healthcare professionals everywhere.

Happy New Year! Replay - Dylan Frechette
This week on the Only Good Vibes News Network, Whistle Monsta and Jamie Bernstein welcome a rising voice in the New Orleans music community: Dylan Frechette, drummer, guitarist, bandleader, and lifelong friend of the show. Dylan sits down in the Fan Cave to talk about his musical journey, from playing Willie Green’s drum kit as a kid on Oak Street’s Po’Boy Fest, to falling off the stage, to developing into one of Loyola University’s most promising young musicians. He shares stories of growing up between Orlando, Denver, and New Orleans, discovering improvisation, and finding a true musical family through Frenchy, Maple Leaf culture, and the city’s deep generational lineage of funk, jam, jazz, and roots music. Whistle and Jamie dive into: Dylan’s first memories of New Orleans, including Leroy yelling at a speeding car, setting the tone for what “NOLA energy” really means. His Po’Boy Fest debut at age 6-7, how the crowd embraced him, and the unforgettable moment when he passed out from adrenaline after crushing his first gig. Learning under legends, playing with Leo Nocentelli, Nick Daniels, and others; hearing stories from the Meters universe; and what it’s like being 14 in a rehearsal room full of Grammy-winners. Why he chose Loyola over music schools across the country, and how New Orleans’ sense of family reshaped his musical identity. Building a new live-music culture for his generation, bringing Loyola students into jam sessions, and creating opportunities for young musicians to connect with the raw, improvisational heart of New Orleans music. Dylan Frechette - The Next Generation of New Orleans Music
Insights on listening, jamming, and music as community, including how real improvisation requires listening to others instead of yourself. Dylan also talks about his band Surco, their weekly residency at the reborn Jimmy’s, upcoming Funk Fest performances, and why he believes live improvisational music is essential for young listeners today.
