Alani highlighted the role of legal observation and educating the community about their legal rights. We discussed recent ongoing protest actions & the concerning pattern of overpolicing of Palestinian solidarity protests and the introduction of more invasive search powers. in public spaces who can be targeted or profiled with increased police presence. A key takeaway is there is a right to film in public, including police interactions. Finally we also talked about police interactions with disabled protestors and disproportionate harm to them, that legal observers have reported on.

As Evie’s research explores in particular weight stigma in public health, we discussed the prevalence of poor outcomes due to misconceptions about fatness as well as discrimination faced by fat people seeking healthcare. Her research explores encouraging positive health behaviours as opposed to interventions that are only oriented toward weight loss. We also talked about access for people in larger bodies in creative spheres with Kalpana, such as dance, representation and inclusion.
