This week I talk to Mr Joe McCullough, who needs no introduction. All I can say is that, as ever, it was a fun and engaging conversation and we hope that you like it. I am sure I speak for all of us when I thank Joe for coming onto the show and just doing all he does to enable us to enhance our nerd-dom.  PATM Discord Link: https://discord.gg/GXV9pbGGKS

    Ep 286: Why I love Halo:Flashpoint (Ryan)

This week I talk to Ryan about all of the reasons he enjoys Halo: Flashpoint, the recent Mantic release that builds upon the Deadzone rule set. Not much more to say in the intro other than that really. It was great to chat to Ryan and get to know him, he is a member of the PATM Discord so if you want to ask him any questions then that is the place to do it.  PATM Discord: https://discord.gg/GXV9pbGGKS

Ep 285: Why I love Bloodbowl (Ed)

This week I talk to Ed about all the reasons why he loves Bloodbowl. Ed was on the show in the not so distant past, episode 245 no less, where he came on to discuss why he loves Space Weirdos. So like a wanton strumpet of a gamer, he's back around flagrently flaunting his love for another game! Always fun to talk to a fellow hobby nerd about a game they love, and this is no exception, we hope you enjoy the listen.  PATM Discord: https://discord.gg/eHYTf4Z7t4 Email: [email protected]

Ep 283: Why I love Necromunda (Dave of Grot Cast Fame)

This week I talk to Dave about all of the reasons why he loves Necromunda, the older iteration, not so much the newer version. Always had an interest in Necromunda but never really dived in, so it was great to hear Dave flapping his gums about it! We also talk a little about his own venture Grot Cast in this episode, there is a snippet at the end and a link below. Go give it a look!  https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/grot-cast/id1873109859 PATM Discord Link: https://discord.gg/guJ7UhdFwY

Ep 282: Dreadball All Stars (Ronnie Renton Mantic Games)

This week I talk to Ronnie of Mantic Games. In this episode he gives us an update on what has been happening over the last 9 months since we last spoke and also talk about the current push from them in the shape of Dreadball All Stars. Dreadball All Stars is a sci fi sports game that you can play on your table top. I have always really enjoyed Blood Bowl and, as Ronnie mentions in the show this is not a competitor of, its more of a complimentary game that is in many ways opposite. Its Sci Fi, it plays a bit quicker, etc etc, I wont list all its quirks here, you can listen in. The Kickstarter campaign is in its last 48 hours as this show is released on April 7th, but you can bob into a late pledge at some point no doubt, or equally wait for it to be released in a retail version. I always find myself saying and thinking the same, but I really do feel that Mantic and Ronnie especially do a great job of creating really well thought out, good value, and well produced game for us to play, thanks guys, us hobby nerds really appreciate it. Ep 277: Chris (Ash and Stone Youtube Channel)

This week I talk to Chris of the Ash and Stone YouTube channel. Its a channel I really enjoy as he focuses heavily on the narrative side of our hobby. He puts together narrative focused battle reports along with a wider variety of hobby content too. Its always great when you invite someone on and they are a really nice person too, and Chris really came across as a down to earth guy, the sort you'd love to play a game with.  PATM Discord: https://discord.gg/eHYTf4Z7t4

Ep 276: Why I love Star Wars Shatterpoint (Scott R)

This week I talk to Scott Radom about why he loves Star Wars Shatterpoint. I was a little bit turned off from Shatterpoint on release due to no crossover from Star Wars Legion, which I was pretty deep into, and also the special dioramas, promos, and other big marketing things I saw that made it seem like money may be more important than substance. So it was great to hear from Scott about all the things he likes about it, I dont think I am dropping everything to be involved with it, but I am more open to it than before. If you play it then give us a shout about all the things you like. Personally I like old school Star Wars, the first triology, so I am not too fussed about the shark dudes, bad company etc etc, cartoons and comics are not really what I personally like best about Star Wars, but it is great that the models for Shatterpoint are so diverse. It was great to have a reason to talk to Scott once more, amazing guy for sure. Hope you enjoy the chat.  PATM Discord: https://discord.gg/eHYTf4Z7t4

Ep 275: Casey Garske (Voidfighter, Space Weirdos, et al)

This week I talk to Casey Garske a rules writer who has created Space Weirdos, Sword Weirdos, Stay Frosty, and Voidfighter which was recently published by Osprey Games. It was brilliant to speak to and get to know Casey, he has a fun loving, dont take life to seriously mentality and that certainly comes through in his rules writing. Thanks for coming onto the show Casey, I hope that everyone enjoys the show.  PATM Discord: https://discord.gg/eHYTf4Z7t4

Ep 274: General Health and Wellbeing (Mark)

This week I talk to Mark about our feeling on general health and diet. Its about this time of year for a lot of us that we have indulged over christmas and with new years resolutions, we potentially reflect on what we do and what we can do. About 10 years ago I started to really question and reflect on life choices in terms of diet and general health. I have tried so many different things over the years, keeping what has seemed to have a positive effect and ditching things I felt didnt help enough. There are far too many things to talk about in just one show, and equally I am not some sort of health guru. I just wanted to chat to Mark about it, and if it gives you pause for thought then great! Equally if you want to chat about any of this further then you can come and hang out on the discord, link in the description. It will be back to regular episodes next friday!  PATM Discord: https://discord.gg/89QFKXtVgJ

  17. 292

Ep 273: Ed (Minisodes Youtube Channel)

This week I talk to Ed from the Minisodes Youtube channel. Ed puts together content on his channel that mostly revolves around 2nd edition Warhammer 40k, although recently he has done some epic too. I personally really enjoy his channel and what I like most is what he explains in the show. He got tired of chasing the new thing, keeping up with new releases, and just wanted to enjoy our hobby for what it is, I heartily subscribe to that! You can tell that he is having fun in his videos and thats what we should all aspired to have! PATM Discord: https://discord.gg/eHYTf4Z7t4

  18. 291

Still time to pick it up before christmas if you like the sound of it. Thanks to Derrick for coming onto the show, always great to find an excuse to chat.  PATM Discord: https://discord.gg/fAhXZZMtbc

  19. 290

Ep 271: Chris (The Unrelenting Brush)

This week I talk to Chris, the mind behind all things Unrelenting Brush. Chris is first and foremost a commission painter but he is also more than that and you get the feeling that he is becoming more than that. I wont talk about it any more here, you can listen to the show. But I can say that it was really fun and interesting talking to Chris and his insight and mindset are interesting to listen to, you can check out The Unrelenting Brush on all of the usual socials, you can add him, reach out, or whatever it is the youngsters do these days and connect with him.  PATM Discord: https://discord.gg/wutY3a4bU3

Ep 269: Stuart (Miniature Realms Youtube Channel)

This week I talk to Stuart of the Miniature Realms Youtube channel. Stuart puts together a wide range of content for us to enjoy from chats to tutorials to book overviews. I have wanted to talk to Stuart for a long time as he always comes across as a solid stand up chap who is passionate about our hobby, and he was! Thanks for coming onto the show Stuart, we appreciated hearing from you, and if you haven't checked out his channel then swing by and see if it is something you may enjoy.  PATM Discord: https://discord.gg/FDHZK94x

Ep 268: Why I love 5 Parsecs from Home (Dave Schmidt)

This week I talk to Smiddy once again, thats Dave Schmidt for those who didnt listen to our last show. Smiddy wanted to talk about why he loves Five Parsecs from Home. Thats it, he loves it. We meander along and have a ramble chat about the things that occur to us. It is also the first reported usage of my actual paint mixer in a show. Usually I shake my paints by hand in the show, you may hear this, you deffo hear me tinkling my paint brush in my cup for sure, but this is a bonafide hearing of the electric mixer! I saw the opportunity and I took it! Hoping for the Oscar for best natural ambiance now.  PATM Discord: https://discord.gg/FDHZK94x

  24. 285

Ep 267: Peter (Fellow Hobby Nerd & Rules Writer)

This week I talk to Peter, who is a PATM discord member, fellow nerd, and also he has taken the dive into writing his own rules. I wont spoil any of the chat here but it was fun talking with him and I am sure I speak for all the listeners when we wish him all the best with his rule sets. In the chat Peter brought up sustainable gaming. As I come up on my first decade in gaming it is a good opportunity to take stock of what I have learned and why I am still in love with it. Back in episode 150 through 153 we talked about how people may hobby effectively and sustainably during our life, I am sure we will revisit it soon, but it came up in the show and if you are not familiar with those shows, then it may be worth having a wee listen. Both Peter and I believe in this concept.  PATM Discord: https://discord.gg/rAseucvH

  25. 284

Ep 266: Barry (Optimal Game State Youtube Channel)

This week I talk to Barry from the Optimal Game State Youtube channel. In the show we do the usual hobby history dive, along with talking about Barry's Youtube channel, being an analytical force for good in the games he plays, and also we talk about Warcry Card Creator that Barry husbands. It was great talking to Barry, thanks to him for spending an hour chatting with us.  PATM Discord: https://discord.gg/hnMq4Jv7

  26. 283

Ep 265: Alex (Storm of Steel Youtube Channel)

This week I talk to Alex from the Storm of Steel Youtube channel. Alex puts together content for games he loves, often playing solo, and his Youtube channel is one I enjoy. If you like the cut of his jib, despite him being a Yorkshireman, then check out his channel. Regardless of any Youtube channel he is an interesting guy to speak to and we spent a good chunk of time talking about Lard games, the cult of lard. Games from Two Fat Lardies. I love Lard games, a lot. You should check those out too.  PATM Discord: https://discord.gg/vy5CduX7

  27. 282

Ep 264: Stephen Baker (Creator of Heroquest)

This week I talk once again to Mr Stephen Baker the creator of Heroquest, Space Crusade, and Battle Masters to name just three! Stephen and I spoke first in Ep 257, in that episode we talked about his formative steps in the hobby and his first steps into the hobby industry, so if you havent listened to that yet then I recommend going back as it really sets the tone for this chat where we predominantly speak about Heroquest.  Heroquest is the starting point for so many of todays hobbyists and it is a brilliant example of so many iconic things coming together in one place. I wont spoil any of the chat but we start off talking about famous Stephen's and we end up with me yelling BRODESODE…..We both hope you enjoy the chat.  PATM Discord Link: https://discord.gg/eHYTf4Z7t4

  28. 281

Ep 263: Non conventional play time? (Matthew Mc)

This week I talk to Matthew from the Bedroom Battlefields Podcast about playing games at what we would call "non traditional times". I would say that usually when we think of tabletop gaming we would think of playing at a club night during the week, or on a weekend afternoon. I personally play early am on saturday morning, Matthew likes to play then too and so we had a chin wag about it, and here are the noises we made! Its a bit of a tiddler this week, that wont be the first time Matthew has heard something like that, but the show is quite short so I added an extra long post ramble ramble on specifically about why you should take a look at the A Song of Ice and Fire game. Ep 262: Mental Health Awareness Day (Mark)

This week I talk to Mark, we spoke back in episode 248 about him and his hobby history. This time we are speaking a bit about mental health. Today, the 10th of October 2025 marks mental health awareness day. Mark messaged me a while ago and wanted to put something together for it, so thanks Mark, nice one, we appreciate your care about this subject.  PATM Discord Link: https://discord.gg/eHYTf4Z7t4

Ep 260: Dave Schmidt (Author and Fellow Hobby Nerd)

This week I talk to Dave Schmidt. Dave is not only a hobby nerd like us but he is also a self published author. He writes the Clay and Aether saga and he's not done! He is writing more books as we speak, maybe at this very moment, so be quiet, dont disrupt him. It was great to talk to Dave, he is one of our own, he's been a member of the PATM discord for ages and he is always a positive presence and influence on those around him, thanks Dave, was a great chat and we all wish you the very best. Dave also sent us a snipped of one of his books and we can listen to that right after the intro, so if you like it you can check out the audiobooks or ye'olde'skool read if yourself versions. Its on Amazon, I picked up the series the other week and I have a bit of holiday coming up sooooooo, I am on it!  PATM Discord: https://discord.gg/eHYTf4Z7t4

  32. 277

Ep 259: Jordan Heckman (County Road Z)

This week I talk to Rodman Hellman, you'll get that joke in a bit. We talk about what has been happening for him since we spoke back in 2017 and then go on to talk about his rule set County Road Z. County Road Z is a co op post apocalyptic game, it sounds super fun and it is one on my christmas/birthday list. I'm not going to go into the show more as it is nice to just listen to it unfold as we go.  PATM Discord Link: https://discord.gg/eHYTf4Z7t4

  33. 276

Ep 258: Alex (Alex Paints Tiny Things Youtube Channel)

This week I talk to Alex of the Alex Paints Tiny Things Youtube channel. We have the usual rambly chat about his hobby history, likes, and highlights. We dig into a big of competitive painting, and a whole bunch of other stuff. I am pretty sure I mention it in the show, but I generalise Scottish people a little in the show, I just wanted to ensure that I mention that this is in jest, and I am totally and fully aware that you cant generalise people, it was just a lighthearted bit of banter. I dont think it was too savage, but I just thought I would throw it out there.  It was great fun talking to Alex, he was insightful and interesting and his video work makes for a positive learning experience.    PATM Discord Link: https://discord.gg/eHYTf4Z7t4

  34. 275

Ep 257: Stephen Baker (Heroquest, Space Crusade, Battle Masters, et al)

This week I talk to Stephen Baker the world renowned game designer. Stephen's work includes but is not limited to Heroquest, Battle Masters, and Space Crusade. This is the first of….some podcasts Stephen and I will have.  I wanted to take the time to get to know him and really discuss things as opposed to rushing or just him feeling like we were superficially pumping him for click baity answers to questions that he has probably been asked a thousand times. So in this show we get to know him, his hobby history, and any interesting tid bits that popped up as we chatted. We end this show ready to discuss Heroquest and its genesis.  Thanks to Stephen for coming onto the show!  PATM Discord: https://discord.gg/eHYTf4Z7t4

  35. 274

Ep 256: Chris (Offbeat Builds Youtube Channel)

This week I talk to Chris from the Offbeat Builds Youtube channel. Chris creates videos of himself kitbashing Warhammer 40k models and his videos are slick and he is also a chipper and funny chap so his work is always good value. Chris came across as a really nice guy and I was very fortunate to be able to spend a while with him, I had a good few chuckles when I was listening back during the edit, I hope you enjoy listening to it also. Thanks Chris for coming onto the show, I hope we find common cause to chat again in the future. If you are into kitbashing, or want to be, go check Offbeat Builds out.  PATM Discord Link: https://discord.gg/eHYTf4Z7t4

  36. 273

Ep 255: Tom P (Warriors Table Wargaming)

This week I talk to Tom of Warriors Table Wargaming YouTube channel. Tom and accomplices put together a whole bunch of stuff for us to watch and listen to from The Walking Dead All Out War to Malifaux, and Moonstone, amongst others.  It was fun talking to Tom as he has very clear opinions and ideas about what he does and that made for an interesting conversation. I wont spoil any of the content here as you can follow along like you were there with us, but you may want to look up what a pie butty is, and also what pea wet is! Thanks to Tom for coming onto the show and for all the effort he goes to for the community. PATM Discord Link: https://discord.gg/eHYTf4Z7t4

  37. 272

Ep 254: Why I love Space Weirdos (Ed)

This week I talk to Ed about why he loves the tabletop skirmish game Space Weirdos. I love these shows, they are the purest form of our podcast. Ed didnt write the game, he's not got anything to gain about selling it to you. He just loves is, and wants to share that with us, and thats amazing!!!! Thanks to Ed for taking the time to come onto the show, it was a pleasure to meet him and to speak to him. If you are a Space Weirdo then I hope you feel happy that your common love is getting some world attention. A little like Patrick Swazye in Dirty Dancing "No one puts Space Weirdos in the corner" Anyway listen to the chatter, we start out talking about Southern Softies and we go from there.  PATM Discord Link: https://discord.gg/eHYTf4Z7t4

  38. 271

Ep 253: Scott Wainwright (Brutality games & Let's Talk Tabletop Youtube Channel)

This week I talk to Scott Wainwright, the creator of the Brutality rule sets, he also has a Youtube channel called Let's Talk Tabletop. Let's Talk Tabletop is a reflective and philosophic inquiry into our hobby and Brutality rule sets give you the ability to play lots of genres with a similar set of guiding principles. Its always great to talk to creative people about their mentalities and ethos's and Scott was no exception. I wont ruin or spoil any of the chat here by signposting it, but we hope that you enjoy the show and I must thank Scott for coming onto the show and giving up an hour of his consciousness to chat with us.   PATM Discord Link: https://discord.gg/dAYXASPJ

  39. 270

Ep 252: Roger Yates (Duncan Rhodes Painting Academy)

This week I talk once more to Mr Roger Yates of the Duncan Rhodes Painting Academy. We spoke back in episode 230 so if you haven't listened to that one you may want to as this is a continuation of that chat and we delve into what has been happening in recent times with the paint line, and also a lot of chat into the future. It was another fun chat with Roger and it was nice of him to give up another hour of his time to chat to us, thanks Rog.  I talk about it in the show but I exclusively use the Two Thin Coats range of paints now, and I wouldnt throw your current paints out the window to go and buy all 180 of their paints, but if you are in the market for a new red, or a new leather brown or what not, then give a couple of their paints a go. I painted all of my Baratheons with Two Thin Coats paints, you can check out the article on paintalltheminis.co.uk and see the results. I do a lot of yellow there so you can see how the paint deals with my mediocre talents! PATM Discord: https://discord.gg/dAYXASPJ

This week I speak again to Will Rahman-daultrey, the creator of Forbidden Psalm, The Last War, and the upcoming Hope is for the Dead game.  We spoke to Will back in episode 241 so if you want to hear about him, his background, and The Last War/Forbidden Psalm you can go back and listen to that, this episode we split our time between talking about his new game and some general design principles he appreciates when it comes to tabletop games.  As this episode comes out on July the 4th, Hope is for the Dead is still available to back on Kickstarter, you can back it for 10 quid, 10 dabs, 10 knicker, which I think is a pretty good deal. If you like the sound of it you can check it out.  Thanks once more to Will for giving up an hour of his time to talk to me.  PATM Discord link: https://discord.gg/eHYTf4Z7t4 250th Episode Questions (send to [email protected]) What brought you to PATM, what do you like about it?
