Something terribly wrong has been unfolding in the aftermath of a July 4, 2025 solidarity demonstration outside of the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, TX. On July 4th, around a dozen people gathered to make a display of noise and fireworks to express solidarity with immigrants and ICE detainees who face the threat of deportation under Trump’s sweeping anti-immigration crackdown. The state’s narrative about what happened that night is dubious and full of inconsistencies.
