    Change is coming

    Every year over 2,200 students graduate with their Bachelor’s in pharmacy eager to make their mark on this industry. How will this new emerging class impact how we interact with our local communities and run our businesses. Most importantly, how can we leverage this new class of talented professionals to meet the impending challenge of Amazon’s expansion.Dr. Jane Xia joins Pindy on this episode. Dr. Xia has practiced in various areas of pharmacy including community, hospital, regulatory, and industry. She also helped launch the Hepatitis C Screening program at London Drugs.  As a faculty member of Pharmaceutical Sciences at UBC, Dr. Xia has compelling thoughts about the changes that are coming.About Dr. Jane XiaDr. Jane Xia joined the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences in January 2019. She obtained her bachelor of science in pharmacy at the University of British Columbia, MBA at Simon Fraser University, and PharmD at the University of Toronto.Dr. Xia has practiced in various areas of pharmacy including community, hospital, regulatory, and industry. Dr. Xia has built trusting relationships with physicians and other health care professionals while working at Merck and Boehringer-Ingelheim. In 2018, Dr. Xia and her team at London Drugs launched the Hepatitis C Screening Program at selected community pharmacies after establishing strong partnerships with patient advocacy groups, healthcare teams, and specialists. Dr. Xia’s academic areas of interest include patient journeys, interprofessional collaboration, and business in health care.     Working together

    As we make our way through a pandemic world, it’s becoming evident that increased collaboration between Pharmacists and Doctors is paying out dividends on many levels. How do we lean into this momentum, and what are some of the challenges we still face today?Joining Pindy on this episode is Dr. Edward Fang. Edward began his career as a pharmacist and has extensive experience working in nursing homes, the Vancouver Downtown Eastside population, and consulting for independent pharmacies.     Stepping up to the plate

    It’s no secret that the pandemic has had a seismic impact on our lives, and the way we seek healthcare advice. Local pharmacies have seized the opportunity, stepped up to the plate and, to date, administered a record number of vaccinations to the Canadian public. We were also in the frontlines conducting massive numbers of COVID-19 tests. But how exactly has this virus shifted the average Canadian’s perception of community pharmacists and the part that they play in healthcare?   Geraldine Vance, CEO of the British Columbia Pharmacy Association joins Pindy on this episode.  About Geraldine VanceGeraldine began her career as a journalist, which led her to interview politicians and senior business leaders. Her interaction with Saskatchewan Premier Allan Blakeney resulted in her joining his staff as the very first woman to hold the position of press officer to a provincial cabinet. After leaving the premier’s office, she worked in communications consulting, for the premier’s office in B.C., and the Doctors of B.C. (previously the BC Medical Association) as the director of communications and public affairs.
