BUY: https://nachopiek.bandcamp.com/track/sarr-band-magic-mandrake-piek-disko-rework-mpep040 The Sarr Band is a Portuguese musical project best known for the 1978/1979 disco-funk album Double Action, originally released on Portugal’s Boom Records. “Magic Mandrake” was the lead single from that album, and I have to admit I only discovered the track recently. It happened while listening to a marvelous set recorded by Vincent Lemieux for Yoyaku, where he played a housey version of the song. I couldn’t find that version anywhere, so I decided to make my own. My good friend Garcynoise ripped the track from the original vinyl, and that became the source for this rework. The result is a super fun, catchy, summer-ready disco rework that has been in constant rotation in my DJ sets. Also, yesterday was the first day I managed to take a swim at the beach this year, so it feels like the perfect moment to kick off the summer season with this one.

Which was also peerless. Mainly because of the artistry of Keith McIvor (DJ Twitch). But also because of the Venue (“the club with no furniture”), the lighting, the crowd- a family of zealots, akin to a friendly cult... if you were there at that time, it has probably moulded your life since. Derrick May thought it the best club in Europe. So did we. There are so many beautiful memories and emotions attached to this record.
