Happy Thanksgiving, and Happy Birthday to myself! There are many things to be thankful for, but the thing that would make me most grateful, the best birthday gift you can provide, is to listen to this brand new episode of Podcast Racing!2025 has had some major highs but also a lot of major lows critically, as well as multiple financial flops. How Can Star Wars Improve? - Episode LXXII

Happy 4th of July! It may not be May the 4th, but any day is a good day to talk about Star Wars!Despite the recent box office success of Revenge of the Sith’s re-release in theaters and Andor’s second and final season receiving critical acclaim, Star Wars as a brand and franchise is still struggling. I will be discussing where the franchise can go from here, and how it can improve, along with my friends MICHAELA, CAMERON, MATT, and SARA.There will be SPOILERS for all nine films in the Skywalker Saga and Ahsoka season 1, but none for Andor. Also, I was dealing with bad allergies while recording, so I apologize for all the sniffing and coughing; it annoys me so much that I can't get rid of that bad audio.

The Subjective Decline of Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Final Season - Episode LXXI

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is one of the most beloved modern sitcoms, and my friends MADDE, RACHELLE, WILLIAM, and I are all fans of the popular show.  Despite all seasons receiving positive reviews and some even critical acclaim, I believe that the show’s eighth and final season is not only its worst one, but also its only bad season.  My amazing friends and I will be discussing whether the show actually took a significant decline in quality or not.  There will be SPOILERS, and we incorrectly referred to season eight’s villain Frank O’Sullivan by the actor's name John McGinley.

2025 Personal Oscar Preference Picks - Episode LXX

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to listen to my brand new episode of Podcast Racing, where I will be sharing what I WANTED the Academy to nominate along with my dear friends MARYANN and BRIAN (unless you have not seen The Brutalist and The Substance because there will be SPOILERS for both of those films in this episode).I originally wanted to release this episode closer to the 97th Academy Awards, but life and personal issues got in the way. Well, even though the Oscars happened a while ago and has long been forgotten, recent Best Picture nominees Anora and Conclave have gotten a resurgence in online attention again, thanks to the unfortunate passing of Pope Francis, the election of new Pope Leo XIV, and Anora officially getting a Blu-ray release through the Criterion Collection.

Should (Christian) Parents Let Their Kids Watch Harry Potter and Spongebob? - Episode LXIX

At the church I regularly attend, there are quite a few people whose parents did allow them to watch stuff like Harry Potter and Spongebob during their childhoods. This is surprising to me, because despite growing up in a Christian household, I was allowed to watch pretty much anything that wasn’t R-rated. In today’s episode of Podcast Racing, I will be sharing the reasons why some Christian parents forbid their children from watching certain content as well as discussing whether their parenting choices are justified or not along with my good friends MADDE and BREE. (Unfortunately, there are quite a few audio glitches and background noises that I could not get rid of. I hope that these don’t ruin your enjoyment of the podcast.)

2025 Oscar Predictions - Episode LXVIII

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of legendary director David Lynch, as well as everyone living in Los Angeles right now. I hope that Lynch and those sadly deceased from the fires are living well in heaven, and that those surviving but still struggling will all be okay and be able to get somewhere safe away from the fires. In a special brand new episode of Podcast Racing, my amazing friends MARYANN, BRIAN, and I will be sharing our predictions for what we THINK will get nominated in the following categories (Picture, Director, Acting). We may share what we want to get nominated in a later episode. I hope you enjoy. SPOILERS for Wicked and The Substance are in this episode. Analyzing the “Romanticization” of True Crime / Cold Case Media - Episode LXVII

TRIGGER WARNING: murder, kidnapping, physical assault, sexual assault, child abuse, and other intense topics will be discussed in this episode. CORRECTION: In this episode, I referenced Adnan Syed being released after originally serving life in prison for the murder of his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee, thanks to the popular true crime podcast Serial covering his case and raising doubts about his conviction which lead to a reopening of his case and eventual freedom. However, I could not remember the name of the podcast or the murder victim, and I incorrectly referred to Syed as a "black man." I would like to sincerely apologize to Syed, his family, and the Lee family for sharing false information and not doing enough research beforehand. SPOILERS for Joker: Folie a Deux and Trap will also be featured in this episode. There has been an over-abundance of true crime media in the last decade (documentaries, movies, and shows about serial killers, missing persons, etc.). Some of these have been guilty of romanticizing or Hollywoodizing the actions of the perpetrators or killers, disrespecting the real-life victims or family members involved with these cases (intentionally and unintentionally), and getting greenlit for the sole purpose of creating more “content” for the increasing number of streaming services. MADDE, newcomer RACHELLE, and I will be delving into said “content” and how the filmmakers behind these biographical cinematic stories can portray these horrific events in a more honest and respectful way. There are a few points in the episode where the audio peaks suddenly. I did my best to adjust the audio, but there will be some points where the audio suddenly gets really loud so I apologize for any issues towards your hearing but I hope you will still be able to enjoy listening to the episode. I would also like to recommend a newly released film on Netflix called Woman of the Hour, directed by Anna Kendrick and based on a horrifying true story about a serial killer's sudden appearence on a dating show, that my friends and I would've talked about if we had recorded after the movie was released.

Top 5 Favorite Star Wars Characters - Episode LXVI

On the last episode of Podcast Racing, my friends and I delved into slightly more serious subject matter than what is usually discussed on this podcast. In today's episode, I decided to do something a bit more fun and light-hearted. My very good friends BEN, TIM, and I (as well as a welcome surprise guest) will be sharing our top 5 favorite Star Wars characters. Remember that we will be sharing our opinions and there are so many great and iconic characters in this franchise, so if we do not mention a certain character that you love then please don't get upset at us for neglecting to mention them. I hope you enjoy :) Ben's Picks: CA KL LS LC CD Tim's Picks: DR H4 IV KS GG My Picks: HS RD OK AT LR

Why Are There More Main Men Characters in Movies Than Women? - Episode LXV

This may just be the best episode of my podcast that I have ever released! Often in movies and television, the struggles and inner thoughts of the patriarch of a relationship or family are portrayed, but the wife or mother's perspective is an afterthought or not really presented at all. This is the case with movies such as Oppenheimer and Top Gun: Maverick, as well as TV shows like Breaking Bad and the Sopranos. My good friends MICHAELA, MADDE, JOHN, EVAN, and I will be discussing why this is the case as well as dissecting the psychologies behind the most famous examples of this imbalance. Mild SPOILERS for Avatar: The Way of Water, Killers of the Flower Moon, Oppenheimer, and the Star Wars films will be in this episode.

A brand new episode of Podcast Racing...released on a Monday!? What is this madness? I managed to finish editing today's episode much earlier than usual, so I decided to share it with you all early! My great friends MARYANN, BRIAN, and I will be sharing our favorite movies from each decade in which we have been alive. There will be SPOILERS in this episode for the following movies: Avengers: Endgame E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial The Godfather Goodfellas Kill Bill (Vol 1 & 2) The Lion King Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Oppenheimer Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End Promising Young Woman The Social Network Spider-Man: No Way Home Stardust Taxi Driver Tombstone

About two months ago, Netflix released their live-action remake of the beloved Nickelodeon series Avatar: The Last Airbender. In today’s episode of Podcast Racing, WILLIAM, TABETHA, and I will be sharing our thoughts on this remake and if we are excited for seasons 2 and 3.

Christopher Nolan Movies Ranked from Worst to Best - Episode LXII

Recently, Christopher Nolan finally won an Oscar for Oppenheimer. In a brand new episode of Podcast Racing, I will be ranking all 12 feature-length films that the talented Academy-Award winner has directed from Worst to Best along with my very good friend BRIAN. I know that this episode is very long, but we have a LOT to say about Nolan and his filmography so I hope you will still enjoy it despite the length. There also are some audio issues due to recording through my phone on top of a table with wobbly legs. Let me know in the Q&A section below what your ranking of his films would be :) There will be SPOILERS for all of Christopher Nolan's movies.

Top 5 Favorite Movie Directors - Episode LXI

On the last episode of Podcast Racing, my good friends Brian and Percy and I attempted to answer the difficult question asked to all cinephiles, “What is Your Favorite Movie?” Today, my friends MARYANN and BRIAN (different Brian) and I will attempt to answer a somewhat easier question, “Who is Your Favorite Movie Director?” or rather, our top five favorite movie directors. Let me know in the Q&A section below who your favorite movie directors are :) Spoilers for 2001: A Space Odyssey are in this episode. Brian's top 5 favorite directors: MS, SS, FFC, SK, DL MaryAnn's: MV, MH, SS, AF, KB Mine: AK, SS, HM, BJH, CN

What is Your Favorite Movie? - Episode LX

A question I and most cinephiles get asked is, “what is your favorite movie?”. That has always been a difficult question for me to answer. How can you pick just one movie from over a century of cinema to be the definitive best you have ever seen? I still cannot properly answer that question, but I am going to try to in today's episode of Podcast Racing. My friends BRIAN and PERCY and I will be sharing our favorites from the three main mediums of cinematic storytelling: animation, comedy, and drama, and then from there we will attempt to pick one movie that is our current favorite. Throughout almost the entirety of this episode there is excessive background noise, and I apologize for the annoying sounds, but I hope you are still able to enjoy today’s episode. Our favorite movie picks are listed down below in just their first initials: Percy: B, BB, FMF* Brian: ATSV, EEAAO, LLL* Me: ITSV, SS*, SLIH

Personal Oscar Picks for 2023 Movies - Episode LIX

It is extremely likely that films such as Barbie and Oppenheimer will be nominated for multiple categories at the Oscars this year. Is this decision justified, or are there other underrated films more worthy of awards recognition? In today’s episode of Podcast Racing, I will share my personal picks for Best Picture, Director, and Acting if I were in charge of the Oscars along with my very good friends MARYANN and BRIAN. I hope you enjoy :) SPOILERS for the movies below: Anatomy of a Fall Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Barbie Ferrari The Godfather Killers of the Flower Moon Oppenheimer (NOTE: This episode was recorded before the Oscar nominations were announced. In addition, I would now replace my own nomination for Erika Alexander with Emily Blunt. Also, Brian mentioned that he had not seen Poor Things at the time of recording. Since recording this episode, he has seen the movie and would definitely nominate it for several categories.) https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1T5ojUE6OGh4rztCsjxEFjhBRNipWT6_U4-n4BoDqhhk/edit?usp=sharing

Ahsoka SPOILER Review - Episode LVII

Many Star Wars fans, especially Rebels lovers, seem to love the new Ahsoka series. Was that the case for my good friend Tim and I? Hear our SPOILER-FILLED thoughts in today’s episode of Podcast Racing. (In this episode, I incorrectly said that Lars Mikkelsen only played Thrawn in live-action form.)

  23. 55

Did Green Book Deserve to Win Best Picture? - Episode LIV

At the 91st Academy Awards, Green Book won Best Picture. In today's episode of Podcast Racing, MaryAnn, Brian, and I will be discussing the 2019 Oscars ceremony and debating on whether the winners of each category were well-deserved or if something else should have won. We will also be briefly sharing various 2018 films that we believe were snubbed. Hope you enjoy :)

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 SPOILER Review - Episode LIII

Superhero fatigue seems to be going away briefly thanks to the overall positive reception for Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, as well as overwhelmingly ecstatic early reviews for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (which will be released in theaters nationwide next week). In a very special episode of Podcast Racing, my good friend Tim and I will be discussing the threequel of the Guardians franchise in full SPOILER detail. Please do not listen to this episode if you have not seen Guardians 3. Watch the movie first and then listen, or just click Play if you don't care about spoilers. I hope you enjoy :)

“Roasting” Each Other’s Letterboxd Profiles - Episode LII

On today’s episode of Podcast Racing, I decided to do something a little more laid-back.  My friends MaryAnn, Brian, and I are going to look at each other’s Letterboxd profiles and “roast” them.  We are not going to harshly criticize each other’s opinions or insult one another just because we may disagree.  This is something that I wanted to do just for fun, and I hope you will enjoy today’s episode :)

My farewell to the MCU (Marvel Films Tier List) - Episode LI

I have been increasingly disappointed and frustrated with the wavering quality of films and shows in the Marvel Cinematic Universe recently and have decided to stop watching MCU properties after Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 (at least the ones that take place in the main timeline; Loki and What If still interest me because they take place in other worlds in the multiverse). I still consider myself to be a fan of the MCU though. To celebrate their 15-year-long success (not counting 2020 because they did not release anything that year), I have revisited all 32 MCU movies and placed them in tier list categories that I will describe in this new episode of Podcast Racing you are about to listen to. I hope you enjoy! Please let me know what your favorite and least favorite MCU films are in the Q&A section below. This episode will contain SPOILERS for all MCU films except for Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3. If you are curious of what my exact ranking of all the MCU films and shows is, click on the link below: https://boxd.it/2ukEO MCU Category Timecodes: Banish Them: (movies I despise and never want to see again - 00:05:01) Not For Me: (movies I do not like but contain some good aspects - 00:22:54) Rewatchable: (flawed movies that I like a lot and will gladly rewatch - 00:49:26) Martin Scorsese: (films that I love that are more than just simple theme park ride movies to me, Marty - 01:22:03)

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Movie Review (SPOILERS) - Episode L

This episode contains spoilers for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, The Legend of Vox Machina, and Avengers: Endgame. In a very special episode of Podcast Racing, my good friends William, Tabetha, and I discuss in spoiler-filled detail our thoughts on the new movie Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. We actually got to see it at an early screening thanks to a promotion that Paramount did for Amazon Prime subscribers where they could get to see the movie a few weeks before wide release at select theaters. I hope you enjoyed the movie if you have seen it, and I hope you enjoy this brand new episode of Podcast Racing :)

If I Were in Charge of the Oscars, I Would Nominate... (Part 2) - Episode XLIX

In the previous episode of Podcast Racing, I determined what I wanted to be nominated for the Oscars with my good friends MaryAnn and Brian. We discussed our personal picks for the major picks such as Picture, Director, and the acting categories. In today's episode, we discuss who we would want to win for all the other categories (except for the short films because none of us have seen that many short films, let alone the ones that were nominated). We only determine winners and not all 5 nominees like last time because then the episode would have been too long. Happy listening! I hope you all are doing well! :)

  29. 49

If I Were in Charge of the Oscars, I Would Nominate... (Part 1) - Episode XLVIII

In today's episode of Podcast Racing, MaryAnn and I as well as welcome newcomer Brian (a real-life friend of MaryAnn) pretend that we are the Academy and choose who we personally would award the Oscar to for the main categories: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress. (This episode was recorded prior to the actual Oscar nominations announcement.  There are light spoilers for The Menu in this episode, even though one of us says that there will be no spoilers.  There will be a part 2 to this podcast available at the end of February.) If you cannot hear our picks clearly, you can read them using the link below: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1grUphkLqOyRMtIJ9sHcmnRZ2YE5pu5QkhGvqyZPOW1M/edit?usp=sharing

Singers Turned Actors: Career Dissection - Podcast Racing: Episode XLV

FINALLY! A BRAND NEW EPISODE OF PODCAST RACING! It has been too long since I have released an episode on the podcast and now I am back with my good friend MaryAnn to discuss the careers of several singers turned actors. We will NOT be discussing the careers of actors who just so happen to also be good singers, such as Emma Stone or Anne Hathaway. I have been eager to resume the podcast and I am happy to announce that one more episode will come out next month and hopefully many more in 2023! #podcastracing #barbrastreisand #ladygaga #justintimberlake #franksinatra #elvispresley #bingcrosby #common #icecube #madonna #jenniferlopez

Should Toys Based on Mature Movies Be Sold to Kids? - Podcast Racing: Episode XLIV

It’s no surprise that movies such as Lightyear, which is coming to theaters today, are usually made just to sell toys and other merchandise to impressionable kids and Toy Story fans.  But for some reason, studios and toy companies occasionally think that it’s a good idea to sell toys to kids that are based off of movies that are too violent or mature for kids to watch, such as the Terminator franchise.  Films in general seem to be becoming more adult lately, so my good friend Ben and I are going to be delving into the mindset of these Hollywood executives and whether their actions are harmless or truly ruining kids’ innocence.  We also discuss the role that parents could and do play in exposing or hiding their kids from said movies. (Mild spoilers for Obi-Wan Kenobi in this episode.)

  34. 44

How to “Properly” Critique and Analyze Movies - Podcast Racing: Episode XLIII

Sometimes it feels like people judge movies based on criteria that may not even be relevant to the film, whether it be judging said film as either pure entertainment or meaningful art.  Today, my good friend CeCe and I are going to share our thoughts on film criticism and what we think is the right and wrong way to analyze and review movies.  I have a feeling that the upcoming movie Jurassic World: Dominion will, like almost all other movies, be judged amongst mainstream audiences based on whether the action is satisfying or not and critics will judge it based on mostly the writing and directing. (Mild spoilers for Turning Red in this episode.)

Is Nepotism Still an Issue in Hollywood? - Podcast Racing: Episode XLII

You’ve all heard stories about how children of famous celebrities leech off their parents’ success in order to have careers of their own…but how much of it is truly a shallow attempt of reaching high levels of fame and how much of it are real earnest attempts to prove themselves as true thespians?  In today’s episode, MaryAnn and I address nepotism in Hollywood, analyze the careers of famous children of celebrities, and even delve deeper into the psychology behind how we inherit traits from our parents and inadvertently follow in their footsteps. (For some weird reason, whenever I export an audio or video file on my computer, the audio becomes corrupted.  I don't know what's the cause of this, but it makes all of my recent content sound weird.  That's why the audio sounds static-y in this episode.)

How Spider-Man: No Way Home Could Affect the Film Industry (SPOILERS) - Episode XLI

Finally a brand new episode of Podcast Racing!  Yay! SPOILERS AHEAD for Spider-Man: No Way Home. As of the initial release of this episode, Spider-Man: No Way Home has made $1.8 billion worldwide.  It's clear that people like this movie, but that might not be such a good thing.  This movie is the latest in a trend of films and television shows that rely on nostalgia baiting and fan service.  Does this mean that we're going to see more stuff from Hollywood come out that relies too heavily on nostalgia and references?  My very good friends and I discuss that in today's episode.  Hope you enjoy!

Has Summer 2021 Saved Cinema? - Episode XXXVIII

Due to the (still ongoing) pandemic, there were no blockbuster films released last summer to help theaters financially and help studios determine which ideas would work and which wouldn't.  This year, studios were much more comfortable releasing films that could be potential hits and revive the box office.  And revive the box office it (kind of) did.  But should the movies themselves be considered "cinema" by Martin Scorsese's standards?  Or our standards?  Hear some potentially controversial thoughts from me and my good friend in today's episode of Podcast Racing!

What is the Best Year for Movies? - Episode XXXVII

In today's episode, MaryAnn and I will discuss what we think is the best year for movies (which year had the best or most iconic films released in said year).  In recent history, some amazing movies were released in 2014 and 2019.  But are either of this years our personal favorites in cinematic history?  Find out in today's episode!  Hope you're all doing well.
