    Recovery Journey _Find Your Way_#34 72226 #grief #resilience #empathy #podmatch

Please subscribe to our YouTube page to receive notices on all new podcasts as well helping us grow our audience. https://www.youtube.com/c/NewClevelandRadioThis episode of the Find Your Way - beyond grief, heartbreak and loss podcast features Krysti's sister, Connie Gold, who experienced ongoing, debilitating chronic pain after an accident several years ago. Over the years, Connie has gone through surgeries to relieve her pain, and improve her energy, mobility and quality of life. She shares her rollercoaster journey through the disorienting effects of intangible grief and who she has become in the process. Please watch, follow and subscribe for more. (We encourage you to contact us if you have a journey to share.)This podcast led by Alison Pena focused on Connie Gold, who is appearing for her third time on "Find Your Way” Beyond Grief, Heartbreak, and Loss. Connie provided an update on her recovery journey since her second hip surgery two years ago, explaining that while the surgery was successful and she has regained most of her mobility, she has adapted to certain activity limitations and now works at a dental office in a front desk role rather than as a hygienist. Overcoming Health Challenges JourneyConnie shared her journey of overcoming significant health challenges, beginning with a fall 5 years ago that resulted in broken hip and elbow during the COVID pandemic. After initial surgery, she experienced two years of physical therapy with limited improvement and increasing pain, eventually leading to the abandonment of her 40-year career as a dental hygienist. Through the recommendation of a podiatrist, she underwent a second surgery to remove problematic hardware, which successfully restored her mobility despite concerns about her advanced osteoporosis.***Check out the rest of the story at: https://newclevelandradio.net/contact-links/find-your-way/If you are looking for a Personal Coach contact Karen at #YESICAN coaching with [email protected] 526 1530

    Dill Pickle Energy Juice or a Toastable/Salute Oatmeal 72226 #282 #WITW #cleveland13news #podmatch

Our sponsors for this episode include: • The Beer & Belly Deli in Northfield, Ohio — Home of Bumble the Cryptic • Big Foot Landscaping in Oakwood Village, Ohio • “What Would You Say to a Naked Space Alien” by Paul Seaburn at paulseaburn.com • #yesican Coaching with Karen — affordable life coaching at [email protected] previewed what he’d be covering in this 282nd episode:1. Cleveland’s own energy drink2. Giant vegetables and seeds that give you gas3. Inconvenience store wolves4. Raccoons, bears, and jaws5. Party games that earn world records6. A surprisingly good reason to bring back malls7. AI invading golf, toastable oatmeal, and more…Paul kicked things off with a story from Poland, where dill pickle juice has officially been certified as an energy drink. That led to a discussion about a Taylor Farms product recall — a grocery item familiar to both Paul and John. Thankfully, no one at newclevelandradio.net is experiencing that “explosive situation.”Next came the tale of a competitive UK gardener who grew a world record garlic bulb weighing three pounds, 13.7 ounces. Paul added historical context about the Burpee seed company, now celebrating 150 years in business.Wolves, Bears & Mechanical ScarecrowsPaul then shifted to Japan, where wolves and bears have been causing trouble for convenience stores — especially the Family Mart chain. This launched a conversation about mechanical scarecrows, including a robotic wolf placed outside a store to deter bears… but which also terrified customers.Paul traced the history of scarecrows back to ancient Egypt, medieval Europe during the Black Plague, and even ancient Greece, where one scarecrow resembled the fertility god Priapus. And of course, those of us “of a certain age” remember Ray Bolger as the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz — and Michael Jackson as the Scarecrow in The Wiz.Raccoons, Jaws of Life & A Song in the MakingPaul shared a story from Rostraver Township, Pennsylvania, where firefighters used the jaws of life to free a raccoon stuck in a storm drain grate. He joked that he’s working on a song inspired by the incident: “Squirrels to the Left of Me, Possums to the Right, Here I Am Stuck in the Griddle with You.”The conversation moved to Guinness World Records, including a Chicago man who walked 10 meters with a balloon between his legs in 3.5 seconds.Paul and John explored other unusual records, including the most kisses in 30 seconds, and Paul suggested John attempt an air kissing record since none currently exists.Paul noted that Americans typically do one air kiss, Europeans do two, and the Swiss do three. This led to reminiscing about mall culture in the 1970s and 1980s — especially Spencer’s Gifts. Paul shared that the first Spencer’s opened in 1963 and still exists today, though some of their novelty items feel hilariously outdated.Paul introduced the IXI Trolley, an AI powered golf cart from Biotronik’s that uses cameras and GPS to track shots, identify hazards, recognize clubs, and even recommend drinks. He then mentioned Quaker’s new “Shake & Go” drinkable oatmeal, questioning why anyone needs a high tech version of something so simple. His comparison to cold pizza made the point clear.Paul wrapped his segment by handing things over to John for sports.John highlighted the World Eskimo Indian Olympics (WEIO), a four day July event in Alaska celebrating traditional skills of Northern Native Americans. Events include ear pulls, high kicks, knuckle hops, and blanket tosses. This year’s winners were Amanda Ogoshiek and Frank M. Lane.Paul and John reflected on how these games originated from real Inuit survival techniques — and joked about a college ear pulling contest they once organized that ended with beer can earrings instead. With more than fifty years in recovery and over two dozen published books—including her global bestseller Each Day a New Beginning, which has reached millions of readers—Karen brings wisdom, humor, and grounded spirituality to the conversation. The episode opens with lighthearted introductions and a bit of pet talk before Elise guides listeners into Karen’s extraordinary background. Karen shares that Each Day a New Beginning has now surpassed four million copies sold, a testament to its enduring impact. At 86 years old, she continues to write every day, in long-hand before moving to the computer. Her daily routine includes 11,000–12,000 steps on her walking pad, teaching classes, and lecturing at treatment centers. For Karen, purpose is not optional—it is the engine that keeps life meaningful at any age.Peaceful Aging and the Power of Daily ReflectionKaren discusses her book Peaceful Aging Meditations for Living a Long, Purposeful Life, designed as a year round companion with daily readings that can be started at any time. She speaks candidly about the realities of aging—health challenges, grief, and the shifting landscape of relationships—and emphasizes that none of us walk these paths alone. Spiritual support, she says, is always present. She also shares her belief in pre birth soul contracts, inspired by Carolyn Myss’s Sacred Contracts, describing life as a tapestry of interconnected lessons that unfold exactly as they are meant to.Finding Purpose Through ChallengeKaren reflects on a painful chapter of her life that ultimately led her to graduate school, where she discovered her love of writing. That turning point became the foundation of her career. She encourages listeners to view difficult experiences not as barriers but as doorways to unexpected growth. When Elise asks about meditation, Karen offers a gentle, accessible approach: think of it as quiet reflection or a conversation with God. Some days bring clarity, others do not—but the practice itself is the gift.Meditation, Movement, and Self CareKaren Casey shares her history with Transcendental Meditation and her personal mantra, which helps her settle her mind. Elise expands the conversation by suggesting walking meditations for those who struggle with stillness.Karen also talks about her step tracking habit, which became especially meaningful after her leukemia diagnosis. She stresses that self care is not a luxury—it is a commitment to kindness toward oneself.Health Challenges as Catalysts for GrowthIn one of the episode’s most powerful segments, Karen reframes health challenges as opportunities to strengthen other parts of life. She speaks openly about living with lung disease, glaucoma, and chronic leukemia, explaining how each condition has te.com/https://prabook.com/web/karen_casey.elliott/359199aught her resilience and adaptability.Elise highlights how timely this message is, especially during Disability Awareness Month, and the two share a moment of gratitude for the perspective Karen brings: that aging and illness do not diminish us—they deepen us.https://prabook.com/web/karen_casey.elliott/359199Follow Elise Marie Collins - https://linktr.ee/elisecollinshttps://www.facebook.com/elise.marie.collins/If you are looking for a Personal Coach contact Karen at #YESICAN coaching with [email protected] 526 1530

Listeners were also encouraged to support local sponsors and featured partners before the conversation shifted into a series of remarkable stories gathered from across the globe. One of the first topics centered on a grocery store in Estonia that was designed around a massive Ice Age boulder estimated to be 10,000 years old. Rather than attempting to remove the enormous rock, developers incorporated it into the building's design, turning a natural obstacle into its defining feature. Paul prompted memories of mechanical horses once found outside area stores and mechanical bulls popular in country western bars. Together, the collection of stories demonstrated how innovation, creativity and human curiosity continue to produce extraordinary headlines that entertain as much as they surprise. This podcast crew enjoys bringing real news with a flair for fun to their audience.Support our Sponsors:The Beer Belly Sports Grille in Northfield, Ohio|Big Foot Landscaping Oakwood Village, Ohio"What Would You Say to a Maked Alien" Paul Seaburn on Amazon#yesican Coaching with Karen [email protected] you are looking for a Personal Coach contact Karen at #YESICAN coaching with [email protected] 526 1530

World Cup Sausages, Pink Doors, Robot Beggars WITW #279 62326 #cleveland13news #podmatch

WCTU CLEVELAND 13 — A wide-ranging discussion of unusual global stories explored everything from World Cup-inspired sausages in Germany to robot panhandlers in China, highlighting the quirky traditions, remarkable achievements and bizarre headlines that continue to capture public attention around the world.Karen Hale, producer introduces the host Paul Seaburn who develops the weekly stories for this podcast series.Paul began the conversation opening with a look at Germany’s World Cup festivities, where Julia Bobo, the reigning Bavarian Weißwurst queen, has embraced soccer fever by creating soccer-shaped versions of the traditional sausage. The discussion examined the cultural significance of Weißwurst, a specialty made from ground veal and pork that is traditionally served with a pretzel, sweet mustard and wheat beer. John and Karen were informed that the meal is typically enjoyed before noon, a longstanding custom in Bavaria.Food remained a central theme as Paul shifted to the history of cup of noodles. The discussion traced the product’s origins in Japan and its rise in popularity among American college students during the 1970s. A humorous story about customized cup of noodle-themed hamster wheels sparked memories of amusement park attractions and led to reflections on classic rides once found at Euclid Beach, here in northeast Ohio. The exchange then turned toward an unusual controversy in England involving pink doors. That discussion expanded into stories connected to music history, including anecdotes involving Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood and the origins of songs associated with the band’s influential catalog. Since John DiNallo knows his music Paul tested his knowledge which did not meet the usual high standards. (Maybe next time.) The conversation also touched on a luxury fashion mishap involving expensive Valentino shoes that drew criticism from customers who believed the footwear made their toes resemble those of pigs. Karen was appalled by the cost of these shoes and declared she would not even consider a purchase.Several Guinness World Records provided additional material for discussion. One featured German builder Tommy Schmidt, who assembled the world’s largest Lego sausage sandwich using 65,000 Lego blocks with support from a local sausage company. The story prompted a lighthearted examination of whether Lego pieces are dangerous if accidentally swallowed, including mention of a study in which doctors intentionally consumed Lego components without suffering harmful effects. Paul reminded listeners to not try this at home, our personal PSA.Another record holder drew attention for combining athleticism with musicianship. Musician Alexander Merseka demonstrated the ability to perform complex exercises while playing instruments, including guitar performances while squatting with a barbell and piano playing during one-arm bench presses. The feat prompted comparisons to the stage energy and physical showmanship of legendary rock performers.Paul brought technology to the program with a robot begging for money on a public street. Additional records included German competitor Andre Ortolf’s achievement for consuming the most honey in one minute. The discussion examined both the amount consumed and the unusual techniques reportedly associated with the effort. Karen gagged at the thought of anything more than a teaspoon of honey to make the medicine go down.John DiNallo ventured into sports history through a look at cane de combat, a French martial art that combines athletic competition with cane-fighting techniques. As both a podcast host and a life coach, Karen has leaned on her training and inner resilience to navigate this transition with more steadiness than she once imagined. With the unwavering support of her two adult sons, she continues to pivot as life shifts around her, learning to walk the road ahead with intention and grace. She is committed to living fully—not only for herself, but in honor of her husband’s memory.Karen and Rich spent years having open, honest conversations about their final wishes. Even with that preparation, there were still small decisions that needed adjusting after Rich’s passing. Karen and her sons approached each one together, united as a family and grounded in love. Each day brings a new experience. Some days are heavy, others lighter, but Karen reminds herself to stay focused on what is positive and life giving, even when grief rises unexpectedly. She incorporates breathing exercises into her daily routine to help her stay centered and present.Karen closed the episode by encouraging listeners to reach out if they need support. Through his signature blend of honesty and compassion, he encourages listeners to think ahead—about safety, support, mobility, home layout, and the emotional realities of aging. This episode is part of her ongoing mission to help individuals and families move from fear and overwhelm to planning, preparation, and empowerment. It’s a reminder that aging isn’t something that happens to us—it’s something we can shape with thoughtful choices, open conversations, and practical steps.🎧 Watch the episode:https://youtu.be/4ImpyRU_vU4*Please note residental care is a need for some individuals as well as a choice. "Doug Wilber and I want to emphasize that we are not criticizing institutional care itself. Instead, we’re asking listeners to understand its origins and recognize the urgent need for evolution.AARP reports that 77% of adults want to age in place, yet only 9% receive the in home services that would allow them to do so. At the same time, U.S. Census data shows that while 4–5% of adults live in nursing facilities at any moment, 25–40% will require nursing home care at some point in their lives or similar services at home.In Episode #1, Doug offers a concise history of institutional living—from poor houses to orphanages to sanitariums—and how those early structures shaped today’s nursing facilities. With families living farther apart and juggling demanding lives, many older adults are placed in facilities earlier than necessary. This isn’t about blame; it’s about understanding the pressures that shape these decisions and exploring better options. We invite you to listen, reflect, and join the conversation as this series unfolds.Share your thoughts with Care Notes at [email protected]://cherishedagency.com/If you are looking for a Personal Coach contact Karen at #YESICAN coaching with [email protected] 526 1530

Did you know that roughly 80% of us say we want to age in place—at home, in familiar surroundings? Not only is it often less expensive, but it also allows us to age with more grace, dignity, and purpose. And yet, many older adults never get the information or support they need to make that choice. Too often, families end up moving loved ones into facilities by default, not preference. While many communities are beautiful and well intentioned, the costs are high, staffing is stretched, and independence can slowly slip away.I’ve seen both sides—facility care and home care—up close in my own family. My grandfather (my Zayde) chose to move into “The Jewish Home for the Aged” when his needs grew beyond what my parents and in home help could provide. He found friends and community there, even as I, as a child, experienced it as a frightening place filled with declining health and fading memories. Other relatives were able to remain at home, supported by devoted family, neighbors, and community connections. Their stories, and my parents’ and in laws’ experiences, have shaped my belief that how and where we age matters deeply.Today, I want to bring my personal journey together with Doug’s expertise in home care to help all of us better understand how to navigate this stage of life. How do we decide whether to age in place or move into a supportive community that still honors autonomy? How do we find the financial, physical, and emotional resources we need—especially if we’re not wealthy, don’t have home equity, long term care insurance, or VA benefits? The cost of aging, particularly long term care, is one of the biggest financial and emotional challenges many of us will face. Even if you’ve planned and saved, the reality of “someday” arriving as today can be sobering. On Care Notes with Doug Wilber, we’re going to talk about these questions openly. We’ll explore options, share tools and stories, and invite you, our listeners, to be part of the conversation.• What are you doing to prepare?• What has helped you or your loved ones?• Where are you still feeling lost or overwhelmed?Together, let’s dig deep, share what we know, and help each other live our later years as fully and independently as we are able.https://cherishedagency.com/ https://cherishedagency.com/resources/guides/home-care-guide***If you need someone to help you navigate through elder aging choices please contact me below:If you are looking for a Personal Coach contact Karen at #YESICAN coaching with [email protected] 526 1530

Yes, our DNA plays a role in health and longevity, but we also hold choices—tools and opportunities—that help us face challenges and, often, rise above them.In our latest Care Notes podcast with Doug Wilber of Cherished Companions, we explored one of the most powerful tools available to us all: purpose. From the time I was a young girl, I searched for meaning. Survival sometimes took center stage, but eventually the idea of living with purpose took root. Over the years, I’ve learned that purpose is not fixed—it evolves. As life shifts, so too does what feels significant and worthy of our energy. If we remain open and attentive, we begin to see how our purpose adapts—meeting us where we are and guiding us toward where we hope to go.And here’s another truth: we are never too old to meet and make new friends. This is a skill we must continue to practice. Old friends remain precious, but life changes—people move, pursue new opportunities, or pass away. If we grow complacent and stop seeking new conversations, we risk becoming stagnant, like a fixture in a rocking chair, dozing away the day.I believe age is just a number. We don’t have to surrender to society’s expectations. In fact, the greatest gift we can give ourselves and others is involvement. Engagement looks different for everyone, but here are a few ways to stay connected and purposeful:- Volunteer – Schools, libraries, and community centers always welcome helping hands. My mother-in-law, well into her late 80s, found joy as a lunch buddy volunteer.- Join an organization – Supporting a cause you believe in builds community and opens doors to friendships across generations.- Employment – Use your skills to start something new or contribute to another company. Refresh your resume and focus on what you can do.- Education – Many colleges offer free courses for seniors 55+. Learning alongside younger classmates fosters intergenerational friendships.- Clubs – Whether it’s Mahjong, Bridge, Scrabble, Canasta, Uno, cooking, or reading, clubs offer connection and fun.None of us have to age into loneliness. If we seek connection, we will find it. Sometimes we may need to ask for directions, but that’s not a weakness—it’s another opportunity to make a meaningful connection along the way.Cherished Companions - https://cherishedagency.com/If you are looking for a Personal Coach contact Karen at #YESICAN coaching with [email protected] 526 1530

These neurons control voluntary movements, such as walking, speaking, eating, and breathing. A fateful lunch with fellow widow Tesha McCord Poe sparked a partnership that became Beyond Widow.Together, these two women—at very different stages of their lives when they were widowed—offer hard-won wisdom and inspiration from the trenches.
