Both are genre-bending mind trip romances and I found similarities in marketing and contrasts in their structure and scenarios. I recommend both!

H/T to This American Life, their recent No Coincidence, No Story! episode had me wondering about a significant experience that I can’t explain away as JUST a coincidence. I also by chance met someone who knew a brother I didn’t know about, which led me to find other siblings who knew of me. I keep seeing my birthday everywhere is my most engaged post, when lets me know it happens a lot. Do you believe in the Simulation Theory? Peek into the rabbit hole! But what does it all mean? HBO’s Watchmen premiered on Sunday. If you’re not familiar, it is a series that is set decades after the DC Comics graphic novel of the same name that ran as 12 issue maxi series from 1986. The setting was an alternate U.S. in 1985 centered around a costumed crime fighter murder mystery. The series was groundbreaking and genre changing with political commentary and adult themes. In 1998 it won the Hugo Award, that annually highlights the best in science fiction.  Many fans either didn’t know about the massacre and many felt the plot was too political. I’m not going to address the other elements of the show but wanted to discuss the Tulsa Massacre and other events concerning white supremacist violence that were widespread events in American History that we may not be aware of. Picked up my phone after a long day with the news of the El Paso shooting. It keeps happening.

It’s been a minute since I’ve posted to the podcast but podcasting is WAY easier than vlogging, so I wanted to get one final episode in this year! I will share my thoughts on the Bird Box craze. Brandi Collins-Calhoun is the Director of Reproductive and Maternal Health at the YWCA Greensboro. She studied History at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and is currently a student midwife at the National Midwifery Institute. Brandi has been committed to birth work for 6 years in multiple capacities ranging from full spectrum doula, childbirth educator and lactation advocate . She has dedicated to centering her work around reproductive and birth justice to focus on maternal mortality rates in people of color. Jasmine Getrouw-Moore educator, professional networker, connection maker, and action taker. I am an experienced public health professional and social justice advocate with a wide range of skills. My professional expertise is rooted in maternal and child health education and anti-racism organizing. My maternal and child health education “toolbox” encompasses education strategies and approaches for expanding health and wellness across the lifespan (childbirth education, prenatal parenting education, Safe Sleep education, and life skills education). Christina M. Yongue is passionate about racial health equity, Black liberation, and community health and organizing. She was one of the Project Managers for the “Accountability for Cancer Care through Undoing Racism and Equity” Research Study, which was developed through the Greensboro Health Disparities Collaborative. She now works at UNCG to teach and direct educational programs for the next generation of community health educators. This weekend’s Greensboro Comicon was my first Comic Book themed convention. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will try to catch the Charlotte Comicon if not the Bull City One. I was able to get some time to talk to artists Marcus Williams (Tuskegee Heirs) and Afua Richardson (Black Panther: The World of Wakanda), along with professional Cosplayer, Eddie Newsome. Marcus, Afua and Eddie were the panel on the Black Heroes Matter forum. It was great to speak to them and thank them for their work and talents. Below were a few sights from the weekend.
