The Black Chapel-All Things Black Sabbath EP 53 "Diary Of A Madman" OZZY
Send us Fan MailThe Black Chapel-All Things Black Sabbath EP 53 "Diary Of A Madman" OZZYDiary of a Madman is the final album recorded with late guitarist Randy Rhoads. Although bassist Rudy Sarzo and drummer Tommy Aldridge are credited in the liner notes and pictured on the inner sleeve for the vinyl and cassette release and later CD re-issues, it was bassist Bob Daisley and drummer Lee Kerslake who performed all bass and drum parts on the original release. Aldridge has stated of the album, "I think it's pretty obvious that it's not my drumming on that album. I have never taken credit for that recording and have always given Lee Kerslake, whenever asked or interviewed, the credit he rightly deserves."[5]Daisley provided significant contributions to the album's songwriting, having written some of the music and most of the lyrics. Kerslake claims to have also had a hand in the writing of the album, even performing lead vocals on some of the original demo recordings. "'Flying High Again' was one of my ideas, 'Over the Mountain' was another. The basic (demo) tracks were just Bob's words, my vocals—though some of the words I wrote—and Randy's playing. It was unreal. And then we got Don Airey to come in and do the keyboards", he stated in 2009. Kerslake says he used a piano in the studio to write many of the songs with guitarist Randy Rhoads.[6] Daisley and Kerslake were not given credit for their performance or songwriting contributions, a situation which resulted in a later lawsuit.During the album's recording, Kerslake says the band members were given no money to live on, prompting them to approach management. Shortly after, both Kerslake and Daisley were fired. "Everything was working fine," said Kerslake. "It was only when Sharon [Osbourne] came in that we had a problem. When she started managing—taking over—she wasn't the manager until Diary of a Madman. Before that was her brother, David [Arden]. He didn't really want to handle it. He had too much to do for Don [Arden] in the office. So she came in and it started to get edgy. But we never suspected a thing until we went away on holiday. Next minute, they're rehearsing with Tommy Aldridge and Rudy Sarzo, and going to America."[7]Although Don Airey is credited as keyboardist on the album, it was in fact a musician named Johnny Cook (who had worked with Daisley in Mungo Jerry in the 1970s) who actually recorded the keyboard parts. Airey was on tour as a member of Rainbow at the time of recording and was thus unavailable.Support the show

Purple Passion-All Things Deep Purple EP 85 Glenn Hughes "From Now On"
Send us Fan MailPurple Passion-All Things Deep Purple EP 85 Glenn Hughes "From Now On"Glenn and band in top formFrom Now On... was Hughes’ second solo release after finding his ‘higher power’ and kicking the drug habits that had marred his career throughout the late 70s and 80s.The album was recorded in Sweden in the Nordic Studio Lab and had its initial release just within that country. It was subsequently released in Japan, Europe and America. It is notable that From Now On… is the only Glenn Hughes studio album which features no bass playing from Hughes himself (a situation that apparently made him uncomfortable in Black Sabbath), claiming that he wanted a ‘knees up without the bass’.[7]Hughes was supported by a band of Swedish musicians including Europe members John Levén, Mic Michaeli and Ian Haugland as well as guitarists Thomas Larsson and Eric Bojfeldt. Swedish singer/songwriter Meja also contributed backing vocals to the track "If You Don't Want Me To". The album also featured the songs "You Were Always There" and "Devil in You" which were originally written for the abandoned follow up to the Hughes/Thrall album. The US release included a new version of the Deep Purple song "Burn", while the Japanese release featured both Burn and a new version of another Deep Purple track, "You Keep On Moving" originally featured on Come Taste the Band. Both these tracks were recorded in Sondtrade Studios in Solna by Ronny Lahti.A live album entitled Burning Japan Live was taken from the From Now On... tour.Track listing"Pickin' Up the Pieces" – 4:16 (Glenn Hughes, Bruce Gowdy)"Lay My Body Down" – 4:42 (Hughes, Thomas Larsson)"The Only One" – 4:38 (Hughes, Eric Bojfeldt)"Why Don't You Stay" – 4:24 (Hughes, Richard Baker)"Walkin' On The Water" – 4:33 (Hughes, Gowdy)"The Liar" – 4:33 (Hughes, Jean Beauvoir)"Into the Void" – 6:23 (Hughes, Bojfeldt, Mic Michaeli)"You Were Always There" – 4:47 (Hughes, Pat Thrall)"If You Don't Want Me To (Allyson's Song)" – 5:14 (Hughes, Jens Johansson, Per Stadin)"Devil in You" – 4:00 (Hughes, Thrall)"Homeland" – 4:42 (Hughes, Mel Galley)"From Now On..." – 5:06 (Hughes)US, EU and Japanese Bonus Track"Burn" – 6:13 (Ritchie Blackmore, David Coverdale, Hughes, Jon Lord, Ian Paice)Support the show

The Black Chapel-All Things Black Sabbath EP 41 Ray Gillen Final
Send us Fan Mail Phenomena project moved into its second faze with “Dream Runner” in 1987, featuring enormous guitars and shimmering keyboards contrasted by an astounding assortment of genuine vocal aptitude. Adding a touch more variety in the vocals department, Glenn Hughes is joined by one-time Black Sabbath singer Ray Gillen, whose clean and lean vocal lines define chunks of synth vamped numbers like “Stop!” and “No Retreat – No Surrender”. Another star vocalist joining the Phenomena caravan is John Wetton, Asia main man adding a decent touch of his AOR magic to the likes of “Did It All For Love”, a song that actually scored a No. 1 spot in South America (of all places). Hughes, on the other hand, handles the project’s irrefutable turn towards radio-oriented rock with vivid bravura. All this extraordinary singing talent is accumulated around contemporary hard rock, and since it was 1987, the album’s mountainous sound clearly has US market in its nostrils. The more streamlined approach is more guitar oriented and is heavy on synthesiser use. Choruses are big and bouncy, some harmonious lullabies like “Double 6, 55, 44”, others true fist throwing anthems such as “Move - You Lose”, and there’s even a touch of boisterous manliness oozing out of “Juke Box”. And while the album lacks that true standout moment, it is this combination of polished hard rockers and hooks that generally holds interest. Tracks:1. Stop!2. Surrender3. Did It All for Love4. PURPLE PASSION ALERT-NEW DEEP PURPLE ALBUM
Send us Fan MailRock legends Deep Purple have announced details of their 24th studio album. Splat! is the follow-up to 2024's =1, and will be released via earMUSIC on July 3. According to a press statement released by the band, the album is "the heaviest Deep Purple album in many years.""Where we are now with this incarnation of Deep Purple feels very much like a very 'now' version of Deep Purple as it was in the seventies," says frontman Ian Gillan. "I have to say, now we are very much back in with material that is compatible with Highway Star, Smoke On The Water, Lazy, the dynamics, the balance, and the fun of the music we made from 69 to 73.https://deeppurple.lnk.to/SPLAT?fbclid=IwdGRjcARoL-VjbGNrBGgv2WV4dG4DYWVtAjExAHNydGMGYXBwX2lkDDM1MDY4NTUzMTcyOAABHp1xQviMIoLgN-mI1OP1PSqdOMEEBZiJGJgVtRRT7GovgykNu6PLZ981Iri1_aem_B8GkV6zoPb0aDF8b9Wp9fwSupport the show
