Painter Steve Berger, a student of Fr. Edward Catich, shared his exhibition, “Destinations,” in the Catich Gallery through Thursday, April 14, 2022. All things are traveling through time and space and the art in this exhibit is an attempt to visually capture moments involving people, places and things taking the same journey through time. The Studio of Exhaustion project is named for the Studio of Exhaustion from Diligent Service, a building in the Palace of Tranquil Longevity, which is a complex of buildings in the northeastern corner of the Forbidden City in Beijing. The Qianlong Emperor, having reigned for many years, began building a retirement retreat in anticipation of his abdication. Qianlong vowed that "if the Heavens blessed him to be on the throne for 60 years," he would retire out of respect so as not to outreign his beloved grandfather Kang'xi, China's longest-reigning emperor. However, Qianlong never retired and never inhabited his modest retirement hall. Clifton Meador combines writing, photography, printmaking, and design to make books that explore how the narratives of culture, history, and place are the basis for identity. His work is in many collections, including the Library of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Yale Art of the Book collection.

"I want to explore ideas about climate, weather, history (both art and geopolitical), personal emotional and psychological states, what it means to have relationships, being a mother, the enormity of what it means to be human being. Parched landscapes, extreme flooding and uncontainable wildfires speak to a natural world out of balance."

Rowen Schussheim-Anderson, professor at Augustana College, has also taught at The Figge Art Museum, The Smithsonian Institution, National Endowment for the Arts’ Artists-in-Education program, Maricopa Community College and Arizona State University where she earned an MFA. She has served as a panelist for the Illinois Arts Council.

Every year we put on a show with faculty and staff at St. Ambrose University. This includes tenured, adjuncts, instructors, and staff are welcome to include artwork. We got the whole group together and everyone got to speak so check it out.

Marty Harris, artist and professional illustrator that lives in Minneapolis was featured in the Catich Gallery. The exhibit was called 42,000 Years on the Same Block Pictures by Marty Harris. It included collective books of vibrant and colorful multimedia pieces suggesting nature and community.

In the Morrissey Gallery, the spring exhibit was based on a Print Portfolio exchange by local artists called Moving Pictures. A print portfolio is when artists get together with friends, make prints into a portfolio and all individuals that participate get a copy of everyone's work. The podcast represents visual narratives, the theme of this years atmosphere at St. Ambrose University. Joseph Lappie (print making professor) and Neil (artist in the collective) talk about their different processes.

Audrey Niffenegger, american writer and printmaker. She is most famous for her novel the Time Traveler's Wife.

Ben Blount's exhibit Typecast was featured in the Morrissey Gallery for the spring of 2019. Blount is a designer, letterpress printer, and maker. His work explores questions of race and identity and the stories we tell ourselves about living in America. This exhibit created a lot of buzz and opinions throughout faculty, staff, and students. In the Spring of 2018, the Catich Gallery was pleased to present two senior students work for the Senior Honors Exhibition. The exhibits were Fall for Me, Exposing the Intimacy of Sleep by Marlene Sack and Pathways to Heaven, multimedia pieces that utilized laser engravers and illustrator vector files by Christopher Murphey. Matthew Hoffman is a Chicago-based artist that showed off his work in the St. Ambrose University Catich Gallery. Hoffman is the custodian for the You Are Beautiful Project, transforming cities and the public eye with large installations. Molly Wood creates digital color images of toxic and medicinal botanicals. She uses only natural light and styles the photographs to resemble Dutch still life paintings. The photos are printed as large-scale images – much larger than life – so that the viewer can closely examine every detail of these complex plants. Kristin Musgnug navigates the tension between our constructed ideas of nature and the actual landscape. For Musgnug, painting is approached as a process of inquiry that draws on her interests in the scientific view of nature as well as the role that nature plays in culture and the human psyche. The work in the Catich Gallery exhibition, Disturbed Ground, began in response to Albrecht Durer's 1503 watercolor drawing, Great Piece of Turf. Jessica Gondek exhibited drawings in the Morrissey Gallery in the fall of 2017. Her drawings consider the relationship between human beings and machines. In the complex world Gondek sets before her viewers, machines are not simply friend or foe, but tools contributing to the quality of human life while at the same time challenging and even threatening human beings' central position in the universe. Greta Songe is an artist, surface & textile designer, and an educator based in Iowa. She earned her MFA from the University of Iowa and is an Assistant Professor of Art at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
