Queer Love Stories

Growing up under the shadow of Section 28, I never thought love—or a full, authentic life—was possible for someone like me. Suppressing my true self until my late twenties, I found that love stories for people like us were rare—so I decided to create a space where they could thrive.Dubbed the “THE gay Carrie Bradshaw of the 2020s,” I share my own dating highs and heartbreaks alongside real, heartfelt stories from the LGBTQ+ community. From romance and friendship to chosen family and self-love, Queer Love Stories celebrates the connections that define and inspire us.Each episode offers moments of struggle but leaves you with hope, positivity, and the belief that love—queer, messy, and magical—is out there for everyone.Let’s celebrate love—queerly and unapologetically.

Sam Ashby: 43% of LGBTQ school pupils have been BULLIED in the last year

Before Smashby became a Big Brother UK name, this is the conversation that came first.Yorkshire country-pop singer-songwriter Sam Ashby (Smashby) sat down with me for a rare, unguarded conversation about love, vulnerability, and the emotional armour so many of us build without realising it.We talk about the pressure to perform confidence even when you don't feel it, what dating and heartbreak look like when you've never actually had a boyfriend, and a genuinely shocking statistic: 43% of LGBTQ+ school pupils have been bullied in the past year, compared to 21% of non-LGBTQ+ pupils.Recorded the summer before everything changed for Sam, this conversation feels even more special looking back. Expect honesty, a few tears, and one very memorable TikTok dance lesson. Recorded the summer before his appearance on Big Brother UK, this episode features Sam Ashby (Smashby) in a rare, pre-house conversation about love, vulnerability, and the emotional patterns that shaped him - before everything changed.Follow Eden on Instagram 💕Follow Sam Ashby on Instagram 💙GIVE YOUR FEEDBACK IN OUR LISTENER SURVEY ⚡️SUPPORT THE PODCASTEden funds this podcast to bring the highest quality content, the most interesting guests and inspiring conversations whilst working full-time. Glinda is for everyone who never gets chosen first

What Wicked's Glinda taught me about never being chosen first — plus a solo dating update from Berlin. In this solo episode of Queer Love Stories, I'm catching up on my trip to Berlin (including an unexpected date with someone I met in Sitges), a big win at my latest drag competition, and the movie that completely wrecked me: Wicked: For Good.Turns out my post-cinema meltdown wasn't really about Elphaba and Fiyero — it was about Glinda, and the very relatable, very queer experience of never quite being anyone's first choice. We get into chosen-family energy, self-worth, dating with intention instead of just filling a winter-shaped void, and what it actually means to choose yourself first. Plus, my weekly tarot pull for love and relationships. If you've ever felt like the runner-up in your own love story, this episode is for you.Follow me on Instagram and TikTok @queerlovestoriespodcast, and leave a review if this one made you feel seen.Get your love story started with Kindling Dating Coaching now 💗 Get your first and fifth Daily Doser for just £3.50 from Skin+Me to finally feel confident in your skin!Support the show

West End Girl & waking up from an emotional nap

Lily Allen's West End Girl, turning heartbreak into art, and why I might be shutting my emotions off.In this solo episode of Queer Love Stories, recorded on my way to the airport (chaotic, I know), I'm talking about Lily Allen's new breakup album West End Girl, why gossip-fuelled heartbreak records hit so differently, and what it means to turn pain into art — something I did myself with my own breakup series.I'm also getting into a recent drag competition win, a potential collaboration with the LGBT Foundation, and why I think I've been avoiding my emotions lately. Plus, my weekly tarot pull, which — fittingly — told me it's time to wake up from a long emotional nap and re-engage with love.If you're a fellow breakup-album connoisseur, or you're mid emotional-hibernation yourself, this one's for you.Follow me on Instagram and TikTok @queerlovestoriespodcast, and leave a review if this one made you feel seen.Get your first and fifth Daily Doser for just £3.50 from Skin+Me to finally feel confident in your skin!Support the show

Manchester is so small & what I want in a partner

Two dates with the same guy in one day, a rugby-induced injury, and what I actually want in a partner. In this solo episode of Queer Love Stories, I'm sharing what my first few weeks living in Manchester have actually looked like — from taking up rugby and embracing my masculine energy (gumshields matter, people), to prepping for my next drag competition and leaning into last-minute plans.I also tell the story of just how small the Manchester queer scene really is — you will not believe this small-world dating moment — and get into something I've been thinking about a lot: what I actually want in a partner, and how I can start embracing those same qualities in myself first.Plus, my weekly tarot pull on love and relationships. Female couples account for 75% of same-sex divorces in the UK and are 250% more likely to divorce than heterosexual couples in Australia. So who better to unpack heartbreak with than comedian, author and broadcaster Rosie Wilby — dubbed The Queen of Breakups by BBC Radio 4?We talk about her book The Breakup Monologues, why queer relationships get built on completely different rules to straight ones, monogamy versus non-monogamy, why so many exes stay friends in queer communities, and why growing apart from a partner should never be seen as failure.Rosie isn't afraid to ask the tough questions about how we approach love — and this conversation will change how you think about your own breakups. Rosie Wilby is an award-winning comedian, author, speaker and broadcaster who has appeared many times on BBC Radio 4 programmes including Woman’s Hour, Saturday Live and Four Thought, TV programmes including Good Morning Britain and Sunday Morning Live and at major festivals around the world. Episode 6 (finale) of Dating Rehab: setting a real relationship goal, nurturing emotional connection, and learning to forgive. In the final episode of my six-week Dating Rehab series with coach Eimear from Kindling Dating Coaching, I set myself an actual, tangible relationship goal for the first time in my life: to build a free-flowing, emotionally open relationship by November 2026. We dig into why I keep shutting down emotional intimacy the moment things start to feel secure, why "safe" has always felt like "boring" to me, and how a somatic breathwork session unlocked something I didn't expect — forgiveness.I also share the update on the guy I've been seeing (spoiler: it's going well), read a poem that's been living rent-free in my head, and answer a listener's dilemma about balancing a new relationship with independence and alone time.If you've ever confused anxiety for excitement, or sabotaged something good because it felt too calm, this one's for you. Get your love story started with Kindling Dating Coaching now 💗Heartbreak is so last season, and I've teamed up with Eimear from Kindling Dating Coaching to transform my dating life over the next six weeks. DATING REHAB: Letting go of control and judgement in relationships, discovering NATO dating + talking to 100 strangers

Letting go of control and judgement in dating: Eden discovers "NATO dating" (Not Attached To Outcome) with dating coach Eimear from Kindling Dating Coaching. In week three of the Dating Rehab series, Eden and dating coach Eimear unpack why chasing relationship milestones - the "official" label, moving in, getting engaged - creates anxiety instead of connection. Eimear introduces the concept of NATO dating: enjoying someone's company without being attached to where it leads, staying present instead of racing toward a destination.Eden puts the theory into practice on a second date around Leeds - a food hall detour to Northern Market after White Cloth Hall turned out to be closed, followed by a comedy night at Hedgerow House - and opens up about the "soldier with shell shock" feeling of dating again after heartbreak: enjoying the moment while still bracing for the fear of getting hurt. Eimear also shares why judgement on dates so often says more about us than the person across the table.Plus, a listener dilemma: a bisexual listener shares the biphobia she's faced dating women on apps like Hinge, and Eden talks through self-worth, boundaries, and why the right person will never make her feel she has to hide part of who she is.Get your love story started with Kindling Dating Coaching now 💗Heartbreak is so last season, and I've teamed up with Eimear from Kindling Dating Coaching to transform my dating life over the next six weeks. DATING REHAB: Letting go of past hurt, the science behind subliminals + what makes a good date

Week 4 of Dating Rehab: using affirmations and subliminal messaging to let go of old heartbreak, plus dating coach Eimear's secret to what makes a good date.Eden and dating coach Eimear from Kindling Dating Coaching tackle why it's so hard to let go of an old relationship story, even once the love is gone. A guided visualisation reveals the fear behind staying closed off versus the safety and freedom of opening back up, and Eimear explains how logically knowing "I'll be fine on my own" is different from actually feeling it.Eden shares her own affirmations for love and security, then dives into the science of subliminal messaging - including a real study where subliminal Coca-Cola frames spliced into an episode of The Simpsons made viewers measurably thirstier, and a Lipton Ice Tea priming experiment - and how she's using subliminals alongside affirmations to reset her mindset around dating. Eimear also reveals what actually makes a good date: a shared emotional reaction, whether that's chemistry or shared horror at bad comedy, plus Eden's three go-to low-pressure date ideas.Plus, a listener dilemma: great chemistry and even better sex, but the conversation stays surface level. DATING REHAB: How to recover after being told you're TOO MUCH, noticing self-sabotage + finding security in relationships

Week 3 of Dating Rehab: unpacking self-sabotage, being told "you're too much," and why Eden is done waiting to be chosen.Eden and dating coach Eimear from Kindling Dating Coaching dig into the "old story" Eden tells herself about relationships - including the pattern of pushing partners away early so she can't be hurt later. They explore her fearful-avoidant (disorganised) attachment style, why relationship beliefs tend to form by around age 21, and the difference between acting from love versus acting from fear.Eden reframes being called "too much," and Eimear names a pattern she's noticed: waiting to be chosen instead of actively choosing who's right for you. Plus practical, low-cost dating advice - Eden's coffee-date-first approach and her framework for what to focus on across date one, two and three - and a listener dilemma about how to date on a budget without every night ending in drinks, regret and never seeing the person again.Get your love story started with Kindling Dating Coaching now 💗Heartbreak is so last season, and I've teamed up with Eimear from Kindling Dating Coaching to transform my dating life over the next six weeks. DATING REHAB: Tackling my limiting beliefs, the power of visualisation + sending the perfect rejection text

Week 2 of Dating Rehab: tackling limiting beliefs, the power of visualisation, and how to send the perfect rejection text.Eden and dating coach Eimear from Kindling Dating Coaching unpack the limiting belief that's shaping Eden's love life: the quiet fear that relationships "aren't going to last." They talk through limerence versus real connection, why visualisation and vision boards matter for manifesting a relationship (not just a career or money), and Eimear's advice for a first date that doesn't spark: "date them till you hate them," and know it's fine to end things early if you can't picture kissing them.Eden also gets real about why she struggles to be direct when a date isn't working out, and shares her attempt at crafting the perfect, kind rejection text after a date that was lovely but missing the spark. The final episode of Heartbreak Chronicles: seven weeks on, Eden shares how far she's come and an updated breakup playlist to match.Wrapping up the Heartbreak Chronicles mini-series, Eden reflects on the anxiety of releasing something this vulnerable, what she's learned about her own attachment style and relationship patterns, and why she's choosing to stay open to love without actively chasing it. She also revisits her breakup playlist with five brand new tracks from Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter and Madonna, swapping the sad-girl songs from episode two for something a lot more healed.Plus this week's listener dilemma: how do you know if you're bi, queer or just sexually open-minded, and Eden's take on why you don't need to have dated someone to know your own sexuality. This week is the FINAL episode of the Heartbreak Chronicles (for now...) and I get into what the future holds for me on my journey and give you my updated breakup tracks seven weeks after it happened.Listen to Eden's ULTIMATE BREAKUP ANTHEMS PLAYLIST ❤️‍🩹You can send me your dilemmas by direct message or by emailing [email protected]❗️ DISCLAIMER ❗️These episodes were recorded in the immediate aftermath of my  breakup and only show my version of events. HEARTBREAK CHRONICLES: How to remain friends with an ex after a breakup

Should you stay friends with an ex? Eden shares the three questions to ask yourself before deciding, plus moving flats, astrology, and a sex-life dilemma three years into a relationship.Six weeks post-breakup, Eden moves out of the flat she's lived in for four and a half years and gets some unexpected closure when her ex helps her move. That kicks off this week's topic: should you stay friends with an ex? Eden breaks it down into three honest questions - why do you actually want the friendship, are you truly in a healthy place to have it, and what would it realistically look like - drawing on what worked (and didn't) when she stayed friends with her first ex.Plus, a listener dilemma about a three-year relationship where sex has dropped off and initiating it keeps ending in rejection, and Eden's take on how to open up that conversation without more shame or hurt feelings. This week I discuss the steps to remaining friends with an ex after a breakup, and if you should even bother! HEARTBREAK CHRONICLES: Spotting the signs of codependency in a relationship

Spotting the signs of codependency: Eden breaks down independence, dependence and interdependence using the scale her therapist taught her, and why she loses herself every time she falls for someone.Fresh off a surprisingly good week, Eden shares the therapy exercise that finally explained her relationship pattern: a scale running from independence to dependence, with codependency and interdependence in between. She walks through the real signs of codependency - loving people you can rescue, feeling responsible for a partner's happiness, needing approval to feel worthy - and admits which ones hit close to home. Then she lays out exactly what she wants to do differently next time: setting boundaries early, not disappearing into constant texting, and learning to listen without trying to fix.Plus, a listener dilemma on whether cuddling with a friend while your partner's away counts as cheating - and how to navigate the answer when you and your partner don't agree. This week I give you secondhand therapy, courtesy of my therapist, on the scale of independence. HEARTBREAK CHRONICLES: The real reason why my relationship ended...

Eden finally answers the question everyone's been asking: why did the relationship actually end?In this raw, unfiltered Heartbreak Chronicles episode, Eden digs into the real, self-reflective answer — not gossip about her ex, but an honest look at her own patterns in relationships. She unpacks how a deep-rooted need for external validation shows up as love addiction, why she loses her independence and turns codependent once a relationship gets serious, and why the most passionate, intense connections are often the ones that burn out fastest.Along the way, Eden talks about watching Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and asks the question that's been on her mind ever since: if you could wipe every memory of an ex, would you? Plus a Brat Girl Summer update, an Ariana Grande "Eternal Sunshine" deep dive, and practical takeaways on breaking codependent relationship patterns for good. This week's listener dilemma: what do you do when your partner's family decides you're "a distraction" holding him back from success? This week I get real deep and reflect on the self-sabotaging patterns I seem to repeat in relationships, but the bets part is by noticing them I can make changes in the future to have healthy, long-lasting relationships.Listen to Eden's ULTIMATE BREAKUP ANTHEMS PLAYLIST ❤️‍🩹You can send me your dilemmas by direct message or by emailing [email protected]❗️ DISCLAIMER ❗️These episodes were recorded in the immediate aftermath of my  breakup and only show my version of events. The Witch Blair: Challenging the stigma of an open relationship, dating in drag & Eden's live Tarot card reading

The Witch Blair very nearly stood Eden's guest up on a bad first date - if a phone call from a friend hadn't stopped them mid-text, they might never have met their husband of eight years.Blair opens up about growing up mixed-race, autistic and Muslim-and-Catholic in a tiny North Yorkshire village, the racism they and their sister faced after 9/11, and coming out to religious grandparents who responded better than expected. We get into meeting husband James on Grindr, the string of ghostings and near-misses right before it, and what almost 11 years together (eight of them married) has taught them about honesty, compromise and not expecting one person to meet every need.Blair also walks through why they and James opened their relationship, how they handle jealousy, communication and the "admin" of polyamory, and what it's actually like navigating the stigma around it. Plus the story of becoming The Witch Blair - from an accidental drag debut in a charity shop wig to running Lincoln's pride cabaret circuit for six years - and a full live tarot card reading Blair does for Eden's own relationship, right there in the episode.GIVE YOUR FEEDBACK IN OUR LISTENER SURVEY ⚡️The Witch Blair is a drag performer, podcaster, and tarot card reader.Growing up mixed-race in the late 90s and early 00s with both muslim and catholic family was challenging, especially when it came to navigating their pansexuality and non-binary identity. They've been happily married for the last 8 years whilst discovering the joys of an open relationships and battling the stigma of polyamory.Follow Eden on Instagram 💕Follow The Witch Blair on Instagram 🔮SUPPORT THE PODCASTEden funds this podcast to bring the highest quality content, the most interesting guests and inspiring conversations whilst working full-time. Kirsty & Natalie: Creating a thriving community, bisexuality & fragmentation within the LGBTQ+ community

Only 20% of bisexual people are out to their entire family, compared to 63% of gay and lesbian people. Kirsty and Natalie know that statistic intimately — both have been in long-term relationships with men for years, and both say their families still haven't clocked that they're bisexual.Kirsty and Natalie run Bi+ Leeds Social Group, a grassroots community that grew out of a monthly cafe meetup into something nominated for LGBT Community Organisation of the Year at the National Diversity Awards. They talk candidly about their own bisexual awakenings, coming from very different upbringings — Kirsty an only child raised in Leeds who's never felt the need to track down the father she never knew, Natalie one of potentially eight siblings from Newcastle who spent years bouncing between undiagnosed ADHD and not quite fitting in — and how straight-passing relationships mean the question of their sexuality almost never comes up at all. They open up about the fragmentation within the LGBTQ+ community, the loneliness epidemic affecting one in five queer people, and why they build every event around affordability and accessibility, from free monthly meetups to pom-pom making workshops. It's an honest, funny conversation about building a chosen family from scratch, and what community really means when you've spent years feeling like you don't quite belong anywhere.GIVE YOUR FEEDBACK IN OUR LISTENER SURVEY ⚡️Bi+ Leeds Social Group is a social space for Bisexual, Pansexual, Queer, exploring or otherwise people within Leeds to come together, attend events and create a thriving community. They've been nominated at the National Diversity Awards for LGBT Community Organisation of the Year 2024 and have been an integral part of the Leeds Queer community. The organisation is run by four inspiring individuals, and I'm joined by two of the key drivers who spearhead the project. Follow Eden on Instagram 💕Follow Bi+ Leeds Social GroupSUPPORT THE PODCASTEden funds this podcast to bring the highest quality content, the most interesting guests and inspiring conversations whilst working full-time. Kaue & Ryan: Creating LGBTQ+ allies through sport, buying Keighley Cougars Rugby Club and battling transphobia

Kaue Garcia came out at 16 in Brazil and was kicked out by his own mother the same day — Ryan O'Neill spent his childhood at an English boarding school where two of his teachers are now serving 28 years combined for paedophilia. Twelve years later, the couple own a professional rugby club together.Kaue grew up in a country he calls one of the most dangerous places in the world to be LGBTQ+, coming out young despite the bullying and being thrown out of his mother's house after she found him sending a kiss emoji to a male friend. He moved in with his grandmother, rebuilt his relationship with his mum a year later, and eventually left Brazil at 24 to travel — a trip that took him through Ireland and Thailand before he met Ryan on a night out in Bangkok.Ryan's path was very different: seven years old and sent to boarding school with no contact from his parents for the first three weeks, a "quite Victorian" old boys' culture, forced rugby every day, and years spent dating a girl and working for the Conservative Party before finally coming out after university. The pair talk candidly about the culture clash of their first year living together, and how in January 2019 a spontaneous decision to save Keighley Cougars Rugby Club from extinction turned into them becoming the first, and still only, openly LGBTQ+ owners of a professional sports club outside the US.They open up about the transphobic abuse they receive for flying trans pride flags and appointing India Willoughby as the club's first openly trans patron, why they refuse to delete hateful comments from their social media, and how a rugby club in a small Yorkshire town became an unlikely home for LGBTQ+ visibility in sport.GIVE YOUR FEEDBACK IN OUR LISTENER SURVEY ⚡️In January 2019, Keighley Cougars Rugby club was saved from the brink of extinction by Ryan O’Neill and his husband Kaue Garcia. The married couple became the first, and still to this date, only openly LGBTQ+ owners of a professional sports club outside of the United States of America.Since taking over the club they've used their platform to champion LGBTQ+ rights, create a more inclusive sporting environment and have raised nearly six figures for LGBTQ+ charities, and will continue to do so as they look to make Keighley a united town, and Rugby League a united sport. Follow Eden on Instagram 💕Follow Keighley Cougars 🏉SUPPORT THE PODCASTEden funds this podcast to bring the highest quality content, the most interesting guests and inspiring conversations whilst working full-time. Lewis Oakley: "Only 20% of bisexual people are out to all their family..." How to handle ignorance, discrimination and erasure as a bisexual

Bisexuals make up roughly 52% of the LGBTQ+ community but receive around 1% of LGBT grant funding. Lewis Oakley has spent five years trying to fix that, and it all started with him ranting drunk at a stranger in a bar.Lewis didn't realise he was bisexual until he was 19, and his activism began almost by accident: a heated defence of his sexuality at a party led to someone offering him his first writing gig, which snowballed into national columns for Metro and Attitude, an advice column, Ask A Bi Dad, and now his book, Bisexuality: The Basics. He talks candidly about the biphobia he's faced from both straight women and gay men, losing friends after coming out as bisexual rather than gay, and the guilt of watching his partner receive homophobic abuse for being with him.Lewis also opens up about growing up mixed-race in a Jamaican and English family, the family intervention that cancelled a long-planned trip to Jamaica over safety concerns tied to his public profile, and why he's committed to staying visibly bisexual as a father of three rather than quietly disappearing into a "straight-passing" family life. It's a sharp, funny and occasionally furious conversation about erasure, discrimination and what real allyship to the bi+ community actually looks like.GIVE YOUR FEEDBACK IN OUR LISTENER SURVEY ⚡️Lewis Oakley is one of the leading bisexual advocates in the UK, with his work in the LGBTQ space changing attitudes around what it means to be a bisexual man.He appears regularly across radio, TV and podcasts including TalkTV, GB News and most notably, Queer Love Stories. Lewis has successfully kept bisexuality in the media for over five years having written articles for leading publications such as the Metro, Attitude magazine, and Gay Times, as well as answering life problems in his successful column  Ask a Bi Dad.On top of all this, he is a husband, father-of-three and co-host on the unique podcast 'Bisexual Brunch.' Follow Eden on Instagram 💕Follow Lewis on Instagram ⚡️SUPPORT THE PODCASTEden funds this podcast to bring the highest quality content, the most interesting guests, and inspiring conversations while working full-time. Rossi Lewis: "When you're totally independent, you're at your peak..." Ditching dating apps for six years, toxic relationships and redownloading Grindr

Rossi Lewis spent six years refusing to date on apps, went viral on TikTok for it, moved to Clapham to become "gay central"'s biggest cheerleader - and then quietly redownloaded Grindr.Rossi tells me about coming out at 20 after finding a stranger in an anonymous chat room, flying to Indiana on a whim to meet him in person (with his nan warning him not to tell his dad before dinner "or he won't eat it"), and the string of relationships that followed: a four year relationship he jumped into without ever being single, a toxic Marrakech holiday that ended with him finding out via a shower full of pinging Snapchats, and a COVID-era relationship in Belfast so bad he calls it his lowest point. We get into why he ditched dating apps entirely in favour of organic meets, the police officer he fell for on a Greek island, buying a pair of Speedos on Vinted that turned into a Paris date, and being scouted for Discovery Plus' astrology dating show Written in the Stars. Plus the TikTok video about Clapham going cold-shoulder culture that blew up and genuinely changed how his neighbourhood treats strangers, and the honest reasons he's back on Grindr after six years away.GIVE YOUR FEEDBACK IN OUR LISTENER SURVEY ⚡️Rossi Lewis is a storyteller, content creator, social media manager, and newly appointed Clapham gay as of 2024. For six years, Rossi has ditched dating apps in favour of organic meets and shares the hilarious outcome of his dates on his popular TikTok channel @its.me.rossi On top of all that, he's a Jessie Ware superfan, a previous contestant on Discovery Plus' reality dating show, 'Written in the Stars,' and a bonified actor. Follow Eden on Instagram 💕Follow Rossi on Instagram ⚡️SUPPORT THE PODCASTEden funds this podcast to bring the highest quality content, the most interesting guests and inspiring conversations whilst working full-time. Kayleigh & Meg: How to start a family as an LGBTQ+ couple, handling early-pregnancy loss and breaking the traditions of marriage

Kayleigh and Meg met while Meg was in a throuple with her then-fiancé, fell for each other over Gilmore Girls and Grey's Anatomy, and ended up proposing to each other in Venice two days apart, both without telling the other. They talk through the unconventional start to their relationship, coming out to very traditional families who turned out to be far more accepting than expected, and why they're rewriting the rulebook for their second, bigger wedding (two proposals, two ceremonies, and a "man of honour" who happens to be Meg's ex). Then we get into their NHS fertility journey: what it actually involves, why access depends entirely on your postcode, the eye-watering cost of going private, and the shockingly under-informed reactions from some health professionals along the way, including being told to find "a willing male friend" or buy sperm online.Kayleigh and Meg also speak openly about the early pregnancy losses they've experienced during treatment, and why they started their Instagram page Our Little Gay Life to make fertility information for LGBTQ+ people easier to find.GIVE YOUR FEEDBACK IN OUR LISTENER SURVEY ⚡️Kayleigh and Meg are a fabulous Bisexual couple living in Leeds who had an unconventional start to their relationship story, followed by TWO proposals in Venice and a lovely little wedding last year. Jonathan Mayor: "You have to constantly reassess who you are..." Sustaining a long-term relationship through all phases of life

Jonathan Mayor met his husband Leon through a small ad in The Guardian, fell in love over the phone before they'd even met in person, and 23 years later he's telling me it still feels exciting having him in the house.Jonathan is a Manchester comedy institution, Sarah Millican's go-to warm-up act and host, and a Canal Street favourite - but this episode is really about Leon. About answering machine tennis that turned into months of phone calls, a first meeting that ended with Jonathan opening the door naked and wet in a towel, a proposal on day three (that Jonathan turned down, obviously), and an "I love you" blurted out on ecstasy less than 24 hours after they met.We talk about the sixteen years they spent commuting between Manchester and Nottingham while Leon was a closeted local politician (he came out for Jonathan, and later became Nottingham's first ever out Sheriff), the family reactions on both sides, and the reality of now navigating Leon's Parkinson's diagnosis together after finally moving in under one roof. Jonathan also opens up about a recent stroke and what it's like relearning his own spontaneity mid-conversation.Away from the relationship stuff, we get into how a chaotic pub quiz turned Jonathan into "Quizmaster, I am God" and accidentally launched his comedy career, plus his genuinely great advice for anyone struggling to date: stop laser-focusing on a six-pack, go and find your actual people, and be kind to whoever's brave enough to talk to you.GIVE YOUR FEEDBACK IN OUR LISTENER SURVEY ⚡️Jonathan Mayor is a huge cult figure in comedy, a Canal Street favourite, and quite frankly, a bit of a Manchester legend. He was Sarah Millican’s go-to host and support act, MC’ing her new material nights: 'Sarah Millican and Friends,' and performing as the warm-up man for her television series: 'The Sarah Millican Television Show'.Away from the comdey circuit he is happily married to the real-life former Sheriff of Nottingham and hosts the Manchester Pride Candlelight AIDS Vigil every year. Follow Eden on Instagram 💕Visit Jonathan's website ✨SUPPORT THE PODCASTEden funds this podcast to bring the highest quality content, the most interesting guests and inspiring conversations whilst working full-time. Andy Downs: Breaking through a breakdown, manifesting love & the adoption process

Manifestation coach Andy Downs on surviving a mental breakdown during the adoption process, and how self-love and authenticity changed his life.Andy opens up about meeting his husband in secret before either of them had come out, and the 17 years since. He also shares the story behind his and his husband's adoption journey — getting approved to adopt two children, only for Andy to suffer a major mental breakdown right before they were due to move in, and how that turning point led him to manifestation and the law of attraction as a career. They get into practical, no-nonsense manifestation advice: the difference between manifesting from ego versus from your authentic self, how to actually manifest love (hint: it starts with self-love and gratitude, not a vision board), and why taking real-world action is the missing half of the law of attraction that most people skip.GIVE YOUR FEEDBACK IN OUR LISTENER SURVEY ⚡️From a young age, Andy Downs knew he wanted an exciting life. However, as he entered adolescence he knew there was something different about him.As a teenager, he knew he was gay, but tried to suppress his sexuality and had accepted this was something he would need to do for the rest of his life.Thankfully, he chose to be his authentic self which resulted in him meeting his now husband.
