Queertronica Podcast

by Saeleen Bouvar

Saeleen Bouvar is a Hamburg-based DJ, musician, curator and salonnière whose work moves between the dancefloor, queer cultural memory and the transmission of knowledge across generations.Behind the decks, Bouvar draws on more than three decades of lived queer club culture. Her sets move freely between disco, Chicago house, acid house, electroclash and techno, guided by a distinctly narrative approach to mixing: building tension, sensuality and unexpected connections rather than following genre boundaries. Her philosophy of Recreate – Restore – Reform treats the dancefloor as a living archive. Sounds and sensibilities rooted in historic gay discos and later queer clubs are recovered, rearranged and confronted with the present — not as nostalgia, but as material for something new. This understanding of transmission also shapes Bouvar's wider artistic practice. In 2017 she founded Salon Queertronique, creating a platform for trans visibility behind the decks in Hamburg. In 2022 she found

ALLOU, from the Greek for “elsewhere”, explored how trans artists continue to expand the language of electronic music: five visions, five approaches, five trans musicians reshaping rhythm, sound, and identity on Hamburg’s dancefloor. This mix is a remake of the set I made for @sicnalradio. Because of the very bad sound quality, I decided to re-mix it at my little home studio. 25. Dyane Prozak´s Birthday Bash @Dragslot

Another Sunday, another set. This one takes us backto 2019, when my dear friend Dyane Prozac asked me to play at her birthday bash party at the drag slot. For me Dyane has something essentially punk, so I was surprised to find out that she actually is a Disco Diva. I still want to share this set...

  26. Sissy, Elektrojahre einer Kaiserin @ Salon Queertronique Kampnagel

Here it is, finally! My set of the fifth Salon Queertronique at the Kampnagel, Hamburg. I had to cut my set into two parts. 28. Les Liaisons Dangereuses @ Le Salon Queertronique Kampnagel

A woman who would know exactly what she wanted was the most feared and the most desired creature by men. What do you get out of the nostalgia of 90 sissies? The fun is not over with tracks by Inner City, Simian Mobile Disco, Jimmy...

  31. Queertroniqal Trans Goddess @ Queertroniqa II Athens

An old whore´s knowledge has always been a major threat to the heteronormative and bourgeois society. 32. Techno Set #2: Athenian Street Queen Magic

Jenny Hiloudaki was and is one of my hugest influences and a warrior for the lgbtq+ rights through and through. In a world full of Drag Races and the thoughtless consuming of US-american black gay culture, people tend to forget the local sheroes who stepped up against the hypocrisy and the…

  36. House Set #2: The Velvet House

My definition of House music would be essentially queer. This House set is filled with playfulness, melodies to die for, crusty and crunchy beats and sensual vocals. 37. Techno Set #1: Justice For The Filthy Queens

I began djing 1998. It was the time I got so absorbed by the possibilites of IDM. I wanted to create a functional set that would highlight IDM tracks without losing…
