Random Cinema: Season 4: Episode 3: Real Genius (1985)

Season 4: Episode 3: Real Genius (1985)This episode the guys talk about Real Genius.  A long time classic for Andrew, this was the first time Brennan had seen this movie. This movie is a 1980’s College raunch film… if done by Disney. It stars a young Val Kilmer as an Einstein level intellect at a made up version of Cal Tech who develops a laser.Brennan and Andrew talk about this film, realize how good it is for a PG - 13 (at best… or worst?) movie and compare it to some fairly problematic other films. Andrew also discusses something that he only realized for the first time on this watch (his 12th or 13th). This movie has some WEIRD sexual moments around a pair of blonde women… not like offensive or rapey but just genuinely… weird. Andrew also tee’s Brennan up perfectly… but does he connect? Tune in to find out!Anyways join us next time when we talk about American Mary!Music byFollow us on Instagram: @randomcinemapodcast Contact us at: [email protected] like, follow and subscribe for the latest episodes. Random Cinema: Season 4: Episode 2: Titane (2021)

Season 4: Episode 2: Titane (2021) This week Andrew and Brennan watched the 2021 French body horror, Titane. Buckle up ya’ll this is another one for the books. This was not an easy watch and this movie takes some interesting turns but woof, is it ever not for the faint hearted. We discuss the twists and turns of the movie, have some differing opinions on the deeper meaning of the film and some audio issues for good measure! We also make sure to discuss the how's and whys of how this film could possibly be as well reviewed as it is! Seriously this movie has some crazy high review numbers and is very well received for being what it is… why this and why not Fried Barry?Join us next time when we talk about Real Genius from 1985 starring a very young Val Kilmer! Andrew’s really hoping to redeem himself with this one, he loves this movie. Music byFollow us on Instagram: @randomcinemapodcast Contact us at: [email protected] like, follow and subscribe for the latest episodes. Random Cinema: Season 3: Episode 10: Strange Brew (1983)

Season 3: Episode 10: Strange Brew (1983)This is the season finale of the Canadian Content season of Random Cinema, and we end on a classic. This episode we talk about the Rick Moranis/Dave Thomas classic, Strange Brew. And this movie is exactly that, a classic. But not much can be said about this classic. It’s based on the sketch comedy characters of Bob and Doug Mackenzie, the UBER Canadian brother pair. Andrew compares this movie to Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein for a reason. It’s a series of sketches with a loose B plot based on Hamlet. Overall it’s a solid movie that you can see the DNA of in other films of its type, like Fubar. It was a blast talking about Canadian content for a year but there are other films we want to talk about so we combined the leftover Canadian films with a trimmed down list from Season 2 to make a new season with more Canadian content mixed in with the international films we want to discuss.Join us next time for Season 4! Random Cinema Season 3: Episode 7: Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person (2023)

Season 3: Episode 7: Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person (2023)Happy Halloween!! This episode we talk about the appropriately horrific, dark comedy Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person. This French Canadian film is a surprisingly fun, well shot, well acted film about a compassionate vampire and what happens when they can’t bring themselves to hunt. It’s a beautifully shot and acted film with fantastic pacing that genuinely surprised both Andrew and Brennan. While not as scary as other films on our list, or even that we have reviewed this season, it’s still a perfect fit for spooky season and is a solid 7/10.Join us next time as we talk about the cult Canadian classic from 2002, Fubar!  Music by Dark Jazz LofiFollow us on Instagram: @randomcinemapodcast Contact us at: [email protected] like, follow and subscribe for the latest episodes. Season 3: Episode 6: Seeds (2024) Welcome to the first episode in our guerilla phase! In this episode we discuss Kaniehtiio Horn’s directorial debut, Seeds (2024). Andrew and Brennan also ruin all sorts of people’s evenings at Blow Job Point. In all seriousness though Andrew and Brennan really enjoyed this movie. It’s a little rough but as far as debuts go, it’s pretty good. It’s a well written, well acted film that has a great spirit to it and shows a ton of promise. Also Graham Greene is Horn’s spirit guide in what may well have been his last role.RIP Graham Greene.Join us next time when we talk about the French Canadian Vampire Comedy, Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person (2023).Matt Frewer Count (remains): 2Follow us on Instagram: @randomcinemapodcast Contact us at: [email protected] like, follow and subscribe for the latest episodes. Random Cinema: Season 3: Episode 5: Men With Brooms (2002)

Season 3: Episode 5: Men With Brooms (2002)This episode we continue our exploration of Canadian film with one of the most Canadian films to ever Canada. We watched and discussed 2002’s Men With Brooms. A heartwarming comedy about a small town batch of misfits trying to reunite and win the coveted Golden Broom. This movie was it all, curling, comical ejaculation, Leslie Nielson on mushrooms… what more could you want? OH YA it was also written by, directed by and starring Paul Gross. However there is no Matt Frewer, they do the have the Tragically Hip!I just, as I write this, realize this was billed as a romantic comedy with the tag line “There’s more than one way to sweep a woman off her feet.” Listen to the episode to find out why that’s a little icky and join us next time when we talk about 2024’s Seeds.Matt Frewer Count: 2Music by Follow us on Instagram: @randomcinemapodcast Contact us at: [email protected] like, follow and subscribe for the latest episodes. Season 3: Episode 4: Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter (2001)Where are the lesbians? That’s the question that starts the oddly entertaining, 2001 Canadian comedy, Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter. This episode Andrew and Brennan watch and then discuss this campy vampire comedy, one of them watched it twice. If you were a fan of FUBAR or… student films… you’ll enjoy this movie. Not much fanfare for this one as it’s a solid, made for MTV movie, 2004’s Going the Distance. It’s a good film with a surprising cast, with stars from Vikings, the Resident Evil franchise and Warehouse 13! Random Cinema: Season 3: Episode 2: Dawn of the Dead (2004)

Season 3: Episode 2: Dawn of the Dead (2004)Join us for this episode as Brennan and Andrew explore, debate and reminisce about the questionablly Canadian film, 2004's Dawn of the Dead, a remake by Zack Snyder, written by James Gunn and George A. Romero. Let's be honest about this one, this episode is a bit looser then normal. Both Andrew and Brennan have seen this movie countless times and have very little to say about it. Andrew does find a fairly annoying (at least to him) plot hole and we hope you enjoy the engaging silence as Andrew (0 - 2) and Brennan (2 - 0) search Wikipedia and scan through to moviie in an attempt to prove the other wrong! Our next film in our exploration of Canadian films is... We set Ed aside for this one and spun the Reel instead and this season’s premiere episode is… Young People F@#king (2007)!This oft overlooked sex comedy classic features a look into the bedroom of 5 couples as they experience the typical stages of a night of romance. Which, spoiler alert, we do not talk about for 2 hours! Random Cinema: Season 2: Episode 37: Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017)

Season 2: Episode 37: Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) This week we celebrate the 50th episode of our show! Which was last episode where we talked about 12 Monkeys! What better way to celebrate though then discussing a series that Andrew and Brennan both love. Star Wars is important to both of us and instead of focusing on just Rian Johnson’s entry in the saga, we kind of end up discussing our feelings on the “Sequel Trilogy” as a whole. Deciding that the problems with this movie, of which there are many, are often caused by the problems with the trilogy as a whole.  There are some great scenes and additions to the franchise, a lot of broken promises and some contentious feelings on the big sabre battle. All this and more on Chapter 7 of our discussion of Star Wars.   Join us next time as we talk about Valhalla Rising! Random Cinema: Season 2: Episode 36: 12 Monkeys (1995)

Season 2: Episode 36: 12 Monkeys (1995)  This is a divisive one as Brennan enjoyed it but Andrew did not. Join us as we discuss why, and Andrew actually gives an articulate reason, unlike his seemingly endless hatred of Dredd. We discuss the highs and lows, what worked and what didn’t and how Brennan understood the third act completely differently from Andrew. We also meet Brennan’s new roommate, get distracted by cats and dogs and pick the next film. Next time on Random Cinema we celebrate the release of the 50th episode (by the Instagram count) by watching and discussing everyone’s favourite Star Wars film… The Last Jedi!  Music by Follow us on Instagram: @randomcinemapodcast  Contact us at: [email protected] Please like, follow and subscribe for the latest episodes. In this movie there are problematic scenes and relationships, but unlike most 80’s comedies, they actually discuss them. This is another fun, inoffensive film that you could watch with the whole family. Season 2: Episode 33: The Burbs (1989) This week Brennan and Andrew talk about The Burbs. Another 1989 film, this one with fantastic performances from people like Carrie Fischer, Wendy Schaal and Corey Feldman, paired with, in Andrew’s opinion, a subpar Tom Hanks.  Andrew really didn’t like the ending and disliked the story a bit but both he and Brennan greed that this was a perfectly ok movie.
