Rebel Saints: Catholic Faith & Spiritual Growth
by Nicole Olea | Catholic Journalist & Storyteller
Rebel Saints is a Catholic podcast for restless hearts, for anyone who knows they were made for more and wants a deeper, real relationship with God.I’m Nicole, a Catholic journalist, wife, and mom, and this podcast is where I live the faith out loud. Not perfectly, but honestly.I started this because I was tired of treating faith like something to explain instead of something to actually live. As a journalist, I cover the Church, both the beautiful and the messy, but I wanted a space to go deeper. To wrestle with it, to grow in it, and to invite you into that journey with me.When I first heard St. Augustine’s words, “our hearts are restless until they rest in You,” everything clicked. That restlessness isn’t a flaw. It’s a call. Here, we lean into that call.We talk about what it really looks like to follow Christ in today’s world, navigating doubt, searching for purpos

What Catholics Believe About Mary: The Original Rebel Mother
Send us Fan MailThis One Goes Out to All the Baby Mamas ... and to the tired mamas, the bonus mamas, the spiritual mamas, and every single one of us who had a mother. On this Mother’s Day episode, we’re going straight to the heart of what Catholics actually believe about the Virgin Mary. No fluff, no stained-glass stereotypes — just real talk answering the questions people actually ask:Why do Catholics make such a big deal about Mary if Jesus is enough? What is the Immaculate Conception (and why it’s not the Virgin Birth)? Was Mary really a virgin her whole life? Why do we call her Mother of God?What’s the deal with the Assumption and praying to Mary? And why is she the ultimate Rebel Saint? We dive deep into the Catechism, Scripture (including her powerful Magnificat), Church history, and Mary’s radical “yes” that changed the world. Whether you’re a mom in the trenches right now, someone missing their mother, or just curious about Mary, this episode will encourage, challenge, and remind you that you have a heavenly mother who never leaves. If you’ve ever wondered why Catholics love Mary so much — or if you need a mother’s heart who truly gets it — this one’s for you.Key Topics:• The Theotokos (Mother of God)• Immaculate Conception & Perpetual Virginity• The Assumption & Queen of Heaven• Why Catholics ask Mary to pray for us• Mary at the Cross and her role as Mother of the Church• The revolutionary power of the MagnificatSupport the Journey: Help other restless hearts find us! Pope Leo XIV: One Year of Peace in a Restless World | Rebel Saints Podcast
Send us Fan MailOne year into the papacy of the first American pope, Nicole reflects on why Pope Leo XIV’s simple, repeated message of peace is cutting through the noise of our exhausted, outrage-driven culture. In this heartfelt episode, she explores how an Augustinian missionary from Chicago stepped onto the balcony of St. Peter’s and greeted a divided world with “Peace be with you” — and hasn’t stopped saying it since. With over 400 references to peace in his first year, Pope Leo is calling the Church back to something that is urgently needed: the disarming, unarmed peace of Christ that refuses to let hatred win.Drawing on St. Augustine’s restless heart, Nicole unpacks why this papacy feels so significant right now, amid political clashes, wars, cultural exhaustion, and the soul-deep tiredness so many feel. This isn’t about politics. It’s about the Gospel’s refusal to be captured by any earthly power and its relentless invitation to rest in God.Support the Journey: Help other restless hearts find us! Catholic Gospel Reflection: The Apostles' First Apostles | Easter Sunday (Year A)
Send us Fan MailCan small acts of faith change the world? On this Easter Sunday 2026, we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ by looking at the "forgotten co-conspirators" of the Paschal Mystery. While the world focused on the powerful, God was working through an underground network of Catholic women, children, and social "nobodies" to make the Resurrection known. In this episode of Rebel Saints, Nicole Olea dives into the lives of those who stayed when others fled. From the financial support of Joanna and Susanna to the bold witness of Mary Magdalene, we explore why the Catholic Church honors these women as the first apostles to the Apostles.Inside this Easter Episode:The Women of Galilee: How their "yes" provided the means for Jesus’ public ministry (Luke 8).St. Dismas (The Good Thief): A deep dive into the patron saint of "latecomers" and why his plea for mercy is the ultimate Easter message.Hidden Heroes: The roles of Joseph of Arimathea, Nicodemus, and even the boy with the five loaves and two fish. The Power of Small Fidelities: Why your tithe, your parish volunteering, and your quiet prayers are the "underground network" building the Kingdom today.Key Scripture & Catholic Teaching Mentioned:Luke 8: The women who accompanied Jesus.John 19-20: The Passion and the Empty Tomb.1 Corinthians 1:26-29: God choosing the weak to shame the strong.Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC): On the reality of the Resurrection and the Mercy of God.Topics covered in this episode: Catholic Easter Reflection, St. Dismas and the Good Thief, Women in the Gospel, The Resurrection of Jesus Christ, Catholic Women's Ministry, Joseph of Arimathea, Biblical History, Catholic Saints, Mercy of God, and the Paschal Mystery.A Message for the "Restless Heart": Whether you feel like a "nobody" in the Church or you're a busy parent struggling to raise children in the faith, this episode is for you. Catholic Gospel Reflection: Standing at the Foot of the Cross | Good Friday (Year A)
Send us Fan MailOn this solemn Good Friday 2026, we try to silence the noise around us to stand at the foot of the cross with Jesus. As Catholics do, there will be no rushing to Easter. No sanitizing the blood, the nails, or the agony. In this Catholic reflection for Good Friday Nicole takes her fellow restless hearts to Golgotha: the scourging, crown of thorns, the heavy beam, the nails piercing wrists and feet, the labored breathing, and the cry “My God, why have you forsaken me?” She explores why the Church still calls this darkest day “Good”— because God Himself came in the flesh to be crushed for our sins so we could be healed. You’ll hear:The brutal physical reality of the crucifixion and how it fulfills the Passover Lamb (unbroken bones, blood on wood)Jesus’ seven last words as gifts of forgiveness, promise, motherhood, and victory (“It is finished”)The deep connection between the cross and the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist—the same Jesus is truly, substantially present in every tabernacle and at every Mass (CCC 1374)A moving story from Cardinal McElroy about a Chinese bishop who endured 23 years in prison and missed the Eucharist mostHow our everyday sins and sufferings add weight to the cross—and how uniting them to Christ’s transforms everythingDrawing from Scripture, the Catechism, and saints like Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, Teresa of Ávila, John Paul II, Fulton Sheen, and more, this episode reminds us: the cross isn’t comfortable. It’s where real sacrificial love is measured. It’s where death is defeated and mercy wins.If your own cross feels heavy, this is your invitation. Don’t fast-forward past Good Friday. Offer whatever you’re carrying right now to Him.Because without a Good Friday in your life, there can be no Easter.Restless hearts, you are welcome here. You belong to the Man who was marked for you.Rebel Saints — A Catholic podcast for restless hearts who are called to be saints.Support the Journey: Help other restless hearts find us! ABOUT THIS SHOW
Rebel Saints is a Catholic podcast for restless hearts, for anyone who knows they were made for more and wants a deeper, real relationship with God.I’m Nicole, a Catholic journalist, wife, and mom, and this podcast is where I live the faith out loud.
