Episode #133 | The (Grocery) Pickup Artist
Summary:The pod has been monetized!! In our dreams...two dollars at a time.Christian and Damien kick things off with a grocery store experience that somehow turns into a whole bit about self-checkout, old people conspiracy and the strange social contract of modern checkout lines. From there, the conversation spirals into Damien's dream about the podcast finally being monetized for two dollars, before landing on a breakdown of hateful YouTube comments. It's interesting how engagement, even the annoying kind, can actually be fun to engage with.Chapters:(00:00) Grocery store errand turns into a self-checkout rant(01:10) Why stores employ a self-checkout attendant instead of just cashiers(02:21) Old people, coupons, and the need for human interaction(03:56) The fedora, ponytail, and Ed Hardy mystery shopper(04:39) Costco-style self-checkout and the scan-gun assistant manager(05:27) Trying to figure out what the mysterious guy was actually wearing(06:22) The bicycle exit and the “pickup artist” bit begins(07:40) From pickup artist to grocery pickup artist(09:07) Damien’s dream that the podcast is monetized for two dollars(10:10) How weirdly realistic dreams can feel(12:27) Why the dream being only two dollars made it feel believable(14:51) The sad midlife crisis of quitting a job to become a full-time podcaster(16:41) When chasing a dream becomes impractical in your 30s(17:18) Reading hateful YouTube comments for the first time(20:16) Why the Shane Gillis clip got the most engagement(21:53) Christian explains his criticism of Shane Gillis and timing(23:38) “Praise be” and the bot-like comment chain(24:54) Responding to trolls by narrowing in on one phrase(28:49) “Leftist rats” and the “one of us is a rat, the other is a hamster” reply(30:01) The “fake virtue signaling” comment and the honest-response bit(32:18) The “how the hell do neither of you have a chin?” comment(33:58) “Just a couple of dorks” and Damien’s typo reply(34:30) The newest comment, “you are pathetic,” and the devil joke(36:19) Christian fact-checks the Shane Gillis details(38:11) An invitation to commenters to come on the podcast(40:10) Why hate comments may actually help the algorithm(41:15) Dreams of monetization, views, and “spewing hate and vitriol”(41:52) byeeee

Episode #132 | Did We Mention We Have A Podcast?
SummaryFast and Furious rewatch, Always Sunny returns, and the Midwest’s weird relationship with shirtless energy.Damien and Christian kick off with a classic podcast problem, trying to explain their show in real life without getting embarrassed. From there, the conversation turns into a fast-moving mix of movie nostalgia, TV takes, Midwest car culture, and a surprisingly deep theory about when men should stop being shirtless in public.Key topicsChristian explains the chaos of joining a very important work meeting while his mic and setup are malfunctioning, then having to improvise with a rainbow microphone on camera. We discuss the weird social embarrassment of having a podcast, especially when people ask about it but clearly have not actually listened. Damien re-watched the first Fast and Furious in theaters and breaks down how different it feels from the later franchise. The conversation compares Fast and Furious to Point Break, especially the undercover-cop structure, the fringe group dynamic, and the abrupt endings. Christian shares a recent beer disaster involving a bad Guinness at a fancy dinner, then contrasts it with how good a properly poured Guinness is on draft. They react to the new Always Sunny episodes and agree the show is still very much in peak form, with the first two episodes landing hard. Damien and Christian discuss why Always Sunny works because the characters do not grow into better people, they just get more entrenched in their exact dysfunction. They talk about how newer viewers often misunderstand the show and expect character growth, when the entire point is that the gang stays awful forever. The episode closes with a surprisingly long and funny debate about shirtless men in public, shirtless social media posts, and the strange masculinity of driving a beat-up car in the heat.Timestamps00:00 - Mic problems and the work meeting from hell01:03 - Explaining the podcast without sounding insane03:12 - Why it feels embarrassing to have a podcast05:41 - The real problem with podcast “promotion”07:04 - Fast and Furious anniversary theater rewatch08:26 - The first movie’s “family” era versus the later franchise10:33 - Hijacking trucks for DVD players and why it still works12:05 - The ending that basically solves nothing13:09 - Why Fast and Furious feels like Point Break14:14 - Point Break, skydiving, and action-movie escalation15:12 - Pink slips, titles, and Nebraska car paperwork chaos16:05 - Seeing Fast and Furious in theaters with a crowd17:29 - Post-movie car culture and the perfect early-2000s vibe18:52 - What counts as a concert versus a festival21:22 - Beer House, liters of beer, and Czech lager24:19 - The worst Guinness ever versus a perfect draft pour27:58 - Initial reaction to the new Always Sunny episodes29:05 - Frank marries a corpse and classic Sunny schemes30:39 - Why Sunny is about awful characters, not growth32:12 - How the cast has evolved without becoming better people33:01 - Why binging Sunny is different from watching it weekly34:40 - Hope for the rest of the season35:14 - Rob McElhenney, physical changes, and the show’s visual evolution36:09 - Charlie Day’s role in Wildwood and why it fits perfectly38:47 - The Midwest dream of a pool table and full bar40:36 - Why a finished basement usually becomes a bar, theater, or gym45:00 - Turning the basement into a gym instead46:10 - When should men stop being shirtless in public?49:12 - Shirtless influencer culture and when it becomes embarrassing52:22 - Divorce bods, mirror selfies, and the logic of flexing online55:26 - Driving shirtless in a terrible car during Midwestern summers61:23 - Why everyone secretly loves a shitty car64:24 - A clunker donation idea for a triple R wrapped promo car67:46 - Pluto TV pitch and the dream of driving a branded beater68:19 - Wrap-up and glurp glurp goodbye

Nebraska Saga: Hey Damien
Damien visits Christian in Nebraska and immediately gets sentenced to the crawl space, which he can only fall asleep in after getting hilariously drunk. The next morning he discovers the “toilet” Christian provided—one that isn’t actually connected—and panics accordingly. Christian then gives Damien a baby-handling test, which Damien fails by dropping an egg and later proudly cradling a fox plushie, thinking it’s the real baby. The trip wraps with Damien roasting Christian’s ridiculous slippers, the only thing in the house scarier than the crawl space. Get ready for peak chaos and zero competence.
