Remap Radio 153: Let's Not Get Mired in So-Called Research

Bruno Dias joins the crew to talk about his review of The Sinking City 2 and Lovecraft as author versus Lovecraft as brand. Then the gang gets into our glorious era of privacy annihilating personal technology and engages in a philosophical exploration of Siri Recap and when an audio file ceases to be an audio file. It is with a heavy heart that we share that the XCOM and Star Wars mashup, Star Wars: Zero Company, seems pretty good. You have another video game to play this year. At least, that’s what Rob told Patrick and Chia on this episode of Remap Radio, where we chat about turn-based Clone Wars, Twitch’s shockingly honest admission about AI, why nobody should work at Saber Interactive, the great time Patrick’s having repairing electronics in ReStory, and more.Links: Saber Interactive CEO Responds to Accusations, Twitch Makes AI Training Opt-Out. A beautiful game deserves a beautiful podcast, so Janet and Rob sat down to discuss the 2026 World Cup. Is Argentina that punchable or are people just tired of them? Does soccer romanticize a rags-to-riches pastime that is increasingly at odds with a stratified global sport that permits a dwindling number of real contenders? Can an event like the World Cup be ruined by the rancid politics of the host nation and amoral opportunism of its governing body? Where is Janet going next for her soccer fix? Remap Radio 142: Entering Our 40's Era

There comes a time in every person's life when they must contend with the question: which golf game is for me? For Rob, well he and his dad spent some time this past week hitting the links in PGA 2k25. Patrick and Chia were both won over by a totally Normal Golf Game, (which they will make Rob play next week when the crew gathers at Highground). Unfortunately, there's only so much golfing that can distract from Xbox closing multiple studios, Epic putting AI in Unreal Engine 6, and Don't Nod teetering on the edge of shutting down for good. As bleak as the AAA space is, at least Steam Next Fest has given Patrick and Chia games to look forward to in the indie zone, including Penguin Colony, the next game from the folks who made Umurangi Generation, and even more golf in the form of Sting and Swing, a stylish looking metroid-vania golfing game.Reminder: Last year, the pro-Palestinian human rights movement BDS that’s pressuring Israel by promoting boycotts, divestment, and sanctions against the country added Xbox to its boycott list. Breaking News: three members of Remap Radio are really enjoying 007 First Light, a new stealth/action/Hitman-esque game from the developers behind, of course, Hitman. But Janet, Rob, Patrick, and Chia are also enjoying and thinking about other things, including apocalyptic signs in the PC buying market, the return of “due to ongoing market conditions” (now with a jingle!), and questions about what it means to return to The Witcher 3 so years later. Plus, Patrick has dug deep into Mina the Hollower and is trying to drag Janet and Chia down with him.Links: Bungie Layoffs, Valve raises prices on Steamdeck, Gamers Nexus: The Collapse of Personal Computing, New Witcher 3 Expansion Announced00:00:00 - Intro0:05:24 - 007 First Light1:14:31 - Bungie Headed Towards Massive Layoffs1:19:06 - Steam Deck Raises Prices1:26:24 - The Collapse of Personal Computing2:03:58 - The Witcher 3 is getting a new Expansion2:23:03 - But Whatabout Moonlight?2:31:36 - Mina the HollowerSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Mina the Hollower’s Long Journey Underground Is Over

The developers of Shovel Knight are, at long last, back with a new game—and despite the long wait, it’s absolutely fantastic. Mina the Hollower is a love letter to topdown games like Zelda, mixed in with elements of Castlevania, Dark Souls, and many others. It’s also had a long journey towards release, which was a topic of conversation during a recent chat Patrick had with Yacht Club Games’ founder and director Sean Velasco and programmer David D’Angelo.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Plus, we’ve got plenty of games, including Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Zero Parades, Creature Kitten, UVS Nirmana, and others! The People vs. Bubsy 4D

Bubsy is an unlikely franchise to be receiving a new sequel in 2026. Bubsy 4D arrives this week, following one of the worst received platformers of all-time, Bubsy 3D. But is Bubsy 3D misunderstood? What did the original games do right? And why make a sequel, when you could make anything? Patrick went digging for answers with Bubsy 4D developers Fabian Rastorfer and Ben Miller to ask a simple question: Why? It has, of course, a nuanced answer.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Remap Radio 137 — Critical Hits

We’re delighted to welcome our old friend and colleague Renata Price to discuss her new project, Crit Build! Ren joins Patrick, Rob, and Janet to discuss launching Crit Build, Microsoft dismissing the head of its Israeli subsidiary, GameStop’s eBay bid falling apart, and what the heck happened with all that Mixtape discourse. Plus, we’ve got plenty of games to talk about, including Forza Horizon 6, Phantom Brigade, the incredible Ayn Thor handheld, and initial Steam Controller thoughts. Somehow, all of this took us nearly four hours. Five stars, baby!Reminder: Last year, the pro-Palestinian human rights movement BDS that’s pressuring Israel by promoting boycotts, divestment, and sanctions against the country added Xbox to its boycott list. Worth Reading: The Manbreaker and Masculinity

Welcome back to Worth Reading, where Patrick chats with people doing interesting writing, reporting, and criticism in the world of video games. This week, Patrick’s talking with Aftermath co-founder Chris Person and for the purposes of this podcast, the author of the excellent essay “Baby’ Steps Manbreaker Did Not Break Me.” Talking with Chris felt especially fitting at the moment, because last week, Patrick finally made it to the end of Baby Steps’ wild challenge.Make sure to read Chris’ piece at Aftermath, entitled “Baby Steps’ Manbreaker Did Not Break Me”: https://aftermath.site/baby-steps-manbreaker-did-not-break-me-challange/See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Rob has returned from the world of F1 to join Patrick, Janet, and Chia for another episode of Remap Radio. We dig into Nintendo’s reasons for revisiting Star Fox 64 yet again, the absurdity of GameStop trying to buy eBay, and plenty of video games, including Mixtape, Amberspire, and, yes, yet another dip into Titanium Court. (This time it’s Janet!) Every Good Story Needs a Banging Soundtrack

Mixtape is a new game from Beethoven & Dinosaur, the studio behind 2021’s whimsical musical adventure The Artful Escape. It’s Life Is Strange (absent the supernatural) by way of John Hughes. Patrick recently had an opportunity to chat with Mixtape’s lovingly eccentric creative director, Johnny Galvatron, and its producer, Woody Woodward, about what it means to make a video game about love, booze, and teenage friendship. Plus, we talk about Weezer.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The Clowns and Criminals of Titanium Court

One of the most fascinating games of 2026 is Titanium Court. Is Titanium Court a match-3 video game? Yes. A tower defense game? Yes. An adventure game? Well, yes. Does the entire game, at times, feel like an elaborate trick been played on you? Absolutely. To learn more, Patrick spoke with Titanium Court designer AP Thomson about making a game about mysteries, the highs and lows of working on two video games at the same time, and, of course, sports manga.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
