    Resistance Aggression 5.12.26

The attacks have started.A former vice-chair of the Colorado Republican Party decided to attack me publicly while defending PAC money and outside influence in HD47.Apparently the Republican establishment is beginning to realize that I’m not a placeholder candidate. In this video, I respond to the claim that my support somehow matters less because it comes from thousands of ordinary people instead of a handful of PACs and political insiders.I also take a closer look at one of the PACs backing my opponent, because if we’re going to talk about outside influence in this race, we should probably do it honestly. The bottom line is simple: this campaign is growing, and they’re nervous. If you’d like to help me fight back, chip in $5 at Vic Meyers for Democracy. Please It will make a difference. Resistance Choices 5.10.26

Americans have been talking about voting for “the lesser of two evils” for decades. But not every election is actually a choice between evil and evil. In this piece, I look at where that mindset came from, why it became so common in modern politics, and why I think voters have more power than we sometimes admit.I also give a few examples of candidates, that if they win their primaries, will allow for a choice in November that will not be the lesser of two evils.Julie Gonzales for U.S. Senate in Colorado Erin Petrey for Congress in Kentucky 6Leila Staton for Iowa House Dist 54 Jeff Pixley for Congress in Oklahoma 4Blythe Potter for Indiana Sec State Kelly Thompson for Congress Indiana 3Victoria Broderick for Congress Tennessee 4And if I may be so bold, Vic Meyers for Colorado House District 47 This is a public episode. Resistance Truth 5.6.26

Politicians love talking about redistricting maps. I’m more interested in the people living inside those lines. This idea that voters in “safe districts” are automatically locked in is part of what got us into this mess in the first place. Democrats stopped showing up for rural America years ago. Republicans learned they could win by simply reminding voters of that fact while slowly disappearing themselves.Meanwhile, both parties obsess over maps instead of conversations.I’m not running that kind of campaign. This district may be considered “safe” by political consultants and strategists, but the people living here are not political statistics. They’re voters who deserve to be listened to, whether they’re Democrats, Republicans, independents, ranchers, teachers, veterans, or somebody living at the end of a dirt road most politicians never bother driving down. That’s where democracy is supposed to happen.Support me at Vic Meyers for Democracy This is a public episode. This week, Big Mike is interviewing Michael Dougherty Michael is currently the Boulder County District Attorney and is in a four-way primary for Colorado State Attorney General.I have to admit that I’m a little jealous of Big Mike after listening to the interview. Michael Dougherty has many positions that line up well with things that I hope to accomplish as a state legislator. Learn more about that at vicmeyersfordemocracy.com This is a public episode. Resistance Surveillance 4.28.26

This isn’t about one bad stop or one mistaken accusation. It’s about a system that scans billions of license plates every month and treats its own data as certainty. In Colorado, we already have real examples of people being pulled over or accused of crimes because that system got it wrong. And once that happens, the burden shifts. People have to prove their innocence instead of the system proving guilt. The danger isn’t just that the system fails. It’s how often it operates—and how much power it has when it does.At the state level, we still have a chance to set limits, require oversight, and protect people before this becomes permanent.Vic Meyers for Democracy This is a public episode. Resistance Music 4.23.26

This has been a long time coming. Before I decided to run for Colorado House District 47 (learn more about that here: Vic Meyers for Democracy), I committed to having a TikTok live event and then a YouTube live event and, if things went well, a Substack live event to use my channels to promote artists who perform resistance music. This should have happened two months ago but since I announced my campaign, something I wasn’t planning on doing at the time, I’ve been too busy. The TikTok finally got scheduled. I’m not sure if I’ll get to the YouTube one. I’m still hoping to choose one or two of the artists who perform and do a Substack live.I think protest music is incredibly important and this is my way of using my platform to help get more of it out there.I also talk a little about the Virginia redistricting election victory. I don’t think we should be celebrating it so much. In addition to the bigger picture (it’s still gerrymandering), everybody seems to think this is guaranteed victory. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch. This is a public episode. If you'd like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit resistorvic.substack.com/subscribe

    Resistance Surveillance 4.21.26

Congress just rushed through another extension of Section 702, a surveillance program that allows the government to collect communications without a warrant. It was designed for foreign intelligence. But in practice, it has already been used to conduct hundreds of thousands of searches on Americans. That’s not a future concern. That’s already happened. The bigger issue isn’t just how the data is collected. It’s what happens once it exists. Because once your information is in a system like this, it doesn’t stay contained. It gets searched, shared, and expanded. That’s why I believe states need to step in where the federal government won’t.I’m committed to introducing legislation in Colorado to stop state and local agencies from collecting bulk data on innocent people and sharing it with the federal government.VicMeyersforDemocracy.com This is a public episode. I think I finally know what it’s like when folks who like to pan for gold find a big nugget.I initially invited Kelly Thompson, congressional candidate for Indiana CD3, because her ABOUT page on her website talks about how she used to be a Republican. While preparing to record, I read more of her website and I was starting to second-guess my decision. Then I talked to her. Now I wish she was running in my congressional district. (we discussed her website, I think she’s going to revise it)Our initial recording had connectivity problems because there was a storm in her area. I couldn’t clean up the recording well enough to post but I was so impressed by her that I had to try again. So, this recording is take two and I’m even more impressed. If Kelly Thompson loses to her incumbent, hardcore Trump sycophant Representative then Congress and America will be worse off for it.She’s the kind of person that I’m hoping we have more of when I get elected to the Colorado State House.VicMeyersforDemocracy.com This is a public episode. Resistance Responsibility

We don’t just vote for policies. We vote for the people who decide who holds power. The founders built a system to check power, requiring the Senate to confirm presidential nominees to prevent unfit people from taking office. But when we adopted direct election of senators, we didn’t just gain influence. We took on responsibility. If senators confirm unqualified or unfit individuals, that responsibility doesn’t stop with them.It comes back to us.So the question isn’t just who they confirmed. The question is: who put them there?vicmeyersfordemocracy.com This is a public episode. Resistance Plea 4.16.26

I was eight years old, and I don’t remember every detail, but I remember the feeling. The country came together. Not perfectly, not without problems, but there was a sense that we were part of something shared. That’s what stuck with me.And it’s what feels missing right now. After I finished recording the video, something hit me.This idea is bigger than a video. It’s not enough for one person to talk about conserving water. It’s not enough for people to make small changes at home, even though those things matter. What’s missing is leadership. We’re already seeing restrictions in places like Colorado. We’re already seeing warning signs in the snowpack. And yet, the response still feels scattered. Individual. Optional. That’s not how you get through something like this.If we’re heading into the kind of drought conditions this year is pointing toward, then we don’t need suggestions. We need direction. We need coordination. We need leaders who are willing to stand up and say, clearly and directly, “This is what we have to do, and this is why.”That’s not happening. And it should be.This shouldn’t be coming from some guy standing out on the prairie making a video. It should be coming from people with the authority to bring communities together and set expectations before things get worse. So I’m going to take that step myself.I plan to bring this idea to my local city council. Not because I think I have all the answers, but because I think someone needs to start the conversation in a way that matches the scale of the problem. And if I’m thinking about doing that, I have to assume I’m not the only one.If this resonates with you, don’t just watch the video and move on.Think about where you live. Think about who makes decisions in your community. Think about what it would look like for people there to actually lead on something like this.Because if this really is one of those moments where we need to come together, it’s not going to happen on its own. It’s going to take people deciding that it matters enough to act. Please share this one. The 25th Amendment isn’t the safety valve people think it is.It requires action from the very people who have shown no willingness to act — and Congress can’t invoke it themselves. That’s the reality we’re dealing with.So if that’s not the answer, what is?In this video, I break down what the 25th Amendment actually says, why it won’t work in this situation, and what action still matters right now.Vic Meyers for Democracy This is a public episode. We are days, if not hours, from having boots on the ground in Iran. Republicans could have stopped this. Before voting on the war powers resolution they all told us that they would vote differently if this were going to be a “boots on the ground situation.”They failed. Now the coming days, weeks, and maybe years will give us more stories like that of Sergeant First Class Alwyn Crendall Cashe. Resistance Trepidation

Long before I was on Substack, I made a series of videos on my YouTube channel about Trump’s long obsession with ending birthright citizenship. He’s been talking about it for over 10 years.Today it’s very likely that Trump lost before the Supreme Court. This video is encouraging people to go back and watch my Dec 2024 videos on this. These are links to the videos.Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4I hope I’m way off base. Unfortunately, too many of the things I’ve predicted about a 2nd Trump presidency have come true. Resistance in 2 Parts 4.1.26

This is Part 2 of a two-part series. In Part 1, I asked you to picture a logjam building on our river of liberty. In this video, I zoom in.These “logs” aren’t abstract ideas. They’re real systems already in place — surveillance laws, data collection, facial recognition, AI, and the ways that information is being used to shape outcomes in our daily lives. Some people are trying to manage this.Others are blocking those efforts. And that’s where the real problem begins.Vic Meyers for Democracy This is a public episode. Resistance in 2 Parts 3.31.26

This is Part 1 of a two-part series.I’m asking you to picture a river, a logjam, and a lake downstream that represents our democracy.Logjams don’t happen all at once. They build slowly over time. And if they’re not managed, they can change the course of the river… or break all at once and send everything crashing downstream. In this video, I lay out that picture and what’s at stake if we ignore it.In Part 2, I’ll show you what happens when that pressure finally breaks.Vic Meyers for Democracy This is a public episode. Resistance Rights 3.29.26

I’ve been thinking about something that feels obvious on the surface, but falls apart the moment you look closer: do we actually value public education?Every state constitution requires a system of public schools. But neither the U.S. Constitution nor any state constitution guarantees a child the right to be educated. That gap matters.Because when you look at how we actually spend money, what we prioritize, and what policymakers choose to focus on, the goal doesn’t seem to be learning — it seems to be maintaining a system. In this video, I walk through how we got here, what changed, and why that missing “right” might be more important than we think. If we want a functioning democracy, we need an educated population. And right now, we’re not acting like that matters.Vic Meyers For Democracy This is a public episode. Resistance Humor? 3.26.26

We’ve been watching Republicans endorsed by Trump lose all over the country, in special elections and in primaries. The latest being a special election for the Florida State House district that includes Mar-A-Lago. So I thought, “what the heck? I might as well try to get my opponent endorsed by Trump.”This video is part humor, part fundraiser, and part strategy. If, by some twist of fate, my video were to make it to Trump’s eyes and he endorses my opponent then I can run ads telling everybody that Trump endorsed him. Resistor Vic Pod 39: Julie Gonzales

State Senator Julie Gonzales appears to be leading the pack in the Democratic Party primary for U.S. Senate in Colorado. She has a solid lead in party preference polls conducted at local party assemblies. The State Assembly is this weekend (March 28). Incumbent Senator Hickenlooper has dropped out of the caucus process after securing enough signatures to get on the ballot. If he had stayed in the caucus and not received at least 10% of the coming vote, his petitions would not have qualified for him for the ballot. Stay tuned. This is a public episode. I went into the Heritage Foundation’s voter fraud database and did the math myself. Out of roughly 2.4 billion votes cast over four decades, they found 1,620 cases of fraud. Only 99 involved non-citizens.That’s not a widespread problem. That’s statistical noise. So why are we seeing calls for stricter voting laws, federal control of elections, and aggressive voter roll purges? A concise, evidence-driven breakdown for voters who want clarity. This should be the national message for Democrats. Since our party leaders are still horrible messengers, I’m hoping to show other candidates across the country that this message resonates. If it resonates with you, go here and donate to my campaign. In this video I give two clear examples of how the party establishment is trying to protect their turf by making life hard for challengers to the status quo.Karen Breslin in Colorado has been campaigning for a year while holding down her day jobs. The party establishment is making it hard for her to get visibility and raise money. If she emerges from the caucuses as the only challenger to Hickenlooper, she’ll take off.Kat Abughazaleh is hated by AIPAC and the party establishment in Illinois is falling in line by trying to reduce her visibility. These are the kinds of candidates that we need to succeed if we’re going to change the status quo. I used to treat the State of the Union as a civic responsibility. Counter events, boycotts, viral moments, and endless commentary can distract from the simplest and most revealing thing: letting people watch for themselves. This piece is about how we got here, what changed, and why sometimes restraint is the most powerful political response.#Politics #Democracy #PoliticalCulture #StateOfTheUnion #CivicResponsibility #AmericanPolitics This is a public episode. Resistor Vic Ep35: Alex Kelloff

I sat down with Alex Kelloff, who is running for Congress in Colorado’s 3rd District, to talk about what representation is supposed to look like.We covered the district itself, rural economic realities, infrastructure investment, job creation, and something I think matters more than almost anything right now: Congress reclaiming its authority as a co-equal branch of government. For too long, Congress has surrendered its power to the executive branch. That has consequences for accountability, for budgets, for war powers, and for everyday Americans who deserve legislators who actually legislate. This conversation wasn’t about buzzwords. It was about responsibility. If you care about the role of Congress, the future of rural communities, and what serious governance looks like, I think you’ll find this one worth your time. Resistance Brief 2.21.26

The Supreme Court ruled some tariffs illegal. That doesn’t mean the damage disappears. Consumers won’t get refunds. Small businesses don’t magically reopen. But big corporations will likely fight to get paid back. That raises a bigger question: who really benefits when policies like this collapse? This video looks at what happens next, and who ends up footing the bill. This is a public episode. Repping Resistance

Real representation means more than speeches and photo ops. It means using every tool available to stand up for the people you represent.A new VA rule affecting disability evaluations was published today, and this is exactly the kind of moment where elected officials should be pushing for oversight and accountability. If they will not act, the public needs to remind them who they work for. Resistance Brief 2.17.26

I grew up when schools helped build real community. Parents knew each other, kids looked out for each other, and we understood we were responsible for the next generation. That feeling is slipping away, and our kids see it. This is a conversation about what we owe them and why strong public schools still matter. This is a public episode. Resistance Remorse 2.15.26

I wanted Valentine’s Day to just be Valentine’s Day. But Parkland happened on that date. Then Uvalde. Then the children caught up in immigration enforcement. Then unanswered questions about abuse and accountability. This is about one thing: whether we actually protect children, or just say we do. This is a public episode. Resistance Fighter

Less than 48 hours after I posted my announcement video, my opponent posted a ridiculous lie on Facebook saying I went after his family. I’m not a Schumer Democrat. I fight back. Please watch the video. If you want to help me bury his political career, go to vicmeyersfordemocracy.com (same as vic4hd47 and vicforcolorado) and look for the donate link. I’m asking for $6. The explanation is at the end of the video. This is a public episode.
