    Myopia Management Close-Up: AOA President-Elect Robert Layman, OD, on New Myopia Guide

    January 15, 2021 The new guide, Managing Myopia: A Clinical Response to the Growing Epidemic, aims to improve on the fact that only five percent of eye care practitioners worldwide are actually engaged in myopia management.  AOA President-Elect Robert Layman, OD, and Johnson & Johnson Vision’s Noel Brennan, BOptom, MScOptom, PhD, FAAO, spoke with Review of Myopia Management’s John Sailer about their organizations’ involvement in creating this new guide along with the American Academy of Optometry, the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry, and the Singapore Optometric Association. Listen to this podcast to learn what this new guide has to offer eye care professionals, patients, and parents in regards to slowing the onset and progression of myopia, and hear what we can expect from Johnson & Johnson Vision “over the next year or so.” Managing Myopia: A Clinical Response to the Growing Epidemic is available to download here.

    Myopia Management Close-Up: Richard L. Abbott, MD, on the AAO’s Myopia Task Force

    The American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Myopia Task Force brought together experts on myopia from around the world to develop an action plan to delay the onset of myopia in children and slow its progression. Review of Myopia Management’s John Sailer recently interviewed the leader of the AAO’s Myopia Task Force, Richard L. Abbott, MD, to discuss how they will implement some next steps, including: ·      educating the health care community, public policy makers, and the public about the public health burden imposed by myopia·      promoting myopia as an important public health concern both nationally and internationally·      working with the pediatric and family physician organizations to encourage the value of outdoor time for children and to encourage the early diagnosis of children Listen to discover how the AAO is working with global ophthalmological organizations as well as U.S. organizations such as the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Optometry, and the American Academy of Pediatrics, and learn more about the AAO’s upcoming white paper on the subject.
