In this episode, I had the honour of interviewing Actor Nancy Olson Livingston, who recently released her autobiography, A FRONT ROW SEAT: An Intimate Look At Broadway, Hollywood, And The Age Of Glamour! She was one of the stars of the classic Film Noir SUNSET BOULEVARD! She shares stories about working and knowing William Holden, who she worked with on 4 films, which also includes another FILM NOIR "UNION STATION".  We also discuss stories she shares in her book on Ronald and Nancy Reagan, Frank Sinatra, Walt Disney, her first husband Alan Lerner, who wrote MY FAIR LADY, GIGI, AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, among many other classic musicals and films. Her second husband Alan Livingston worked at Capital Records and signed bands like The Beatles, The Band, The Beach Boys, Frank Sinatra and while at NBC, he created the hit television show, BONANZA! Other iconic movies Nancy appeared in was the Disney classic "The Absent Minded Professor" & "Pollyanna". She also appeared on Broadway and in several television shows. In this episode, which is a part of my series, FILM NOIR MOVIE REVIEWS, we review THE BREAKING POINT, which was directed by Michael Curtiz, and starred John Garfield (The First Ever METHOD ACTOR Movie Star), Patricia Neal and Phyllis Thaxter! Method Acting has always been a topic of debate. Is it harmful? Did it make acting better ? What actually Is Method Acting ? The public, the media and even Actors, Teachers, Directors and Writers often have all kinds of ideas about what Method Acting is and often the perception is wrong. It is not sending a dead rat to your co-stars as Jared Leto did. It is not walking around on set, while remaining in character and demanding everyone call you by your characters name, as Daniel Day Lewis does. It is not gaining 60 pounds to play Jake La Motta in Raging Bull as Robert De Niro did. The reality is Method Acting is not one dogmatic static approach to Acting. It began in Russia and was created and developed by Konstantin Stanislavski and members of The Moscow Art Theatre. It then came to America and members of The Group Theatre developed an American version of The Method.  Isaac Butler's NEW book, "THE METHOD: How The 20th Century Learned To Act", is a biographical approach to the history of THE METHOD! In this episode, I interviewed Writer Burt Kearns about his new book "Lawrence Tierney: Hollywood's Real Life Tough Guy", which just came out. I loved the book and highly recommend getting it. Lawrence Tierney was a film noir legend, who appeared in many feature films, television show and in commercials. He also did some theatre. His career went up and down for his entire life, due to his alcoholism and bar brawls, which lead to many arrests. He's best known as playing John Dillinger in "DILLINGER", as well as "THE HOODLUM", "THE DEVIL THUMBS A RIDE", "RESERVOIR DOGS", and television shows like "SEINFELD" & "HILL STREET BLUES", amount many other credits. His story is tragic, yet inspiring, as he continued to work and thrive, even after many ups and downs in his life. This film was highly controversial when it came out in 1974 and is still shocking to modern audiences. However, the film truly is more about world War II trauma and how the main characters are stuck in time as a result of what they experienced.
