The Rocky Boy Health Center hosted a grand opening of the Miyo Pimatisiwinkamik Youth Wellness Center. Miyo Pimatisiwinkamik is Cree for Good Life Lodge. This new building will provide a place where youth can engage in healthy activities, socialize with their peers, participate in cultural events, and take part in educational programming. They will also have access to mental health support, school-based care, wellness, dental health and screening, and maternal health. Emily Kallengberger and Joelnell Momberg talk about programming, Summer plans, and what to expect.

Gary Palladino works in the Pharmacy at the Rocky Boy Health Center at the Chippewa Cree Tribe in Rocky Boy Montana. Gary shares on what its like to work in Rocky Boy as a Pharmacist and what he experiences.

Our guest was here for a visit to the Rocky Boy Health Center. Diem Jones is an expert with Documentatiion. Documentation was the focus for todays discussion.  Diem Jones is a thought leader, writer,  poet/musician, multi-disciplinary producer, content-provider, and program designer. In addition to having directed creative writing programs on 6 US university campuses, his work as a writer has won critical acclaim in: books, anthologies, music videos, industrial films, documentaries as well as commercials. He is currently the COO of Penn Global Visions and CEO of All One Consulting.  Diem is Vice-President with Institute for Community Evolution. 

The Tribal Healing to Wellness Courtsare voluntary, restorative justice programs within the Chippewa Cree tribal court systems is designed to address substance abuse through treatment, cultural values, and strict supervision, rather than traditional punitive measures. They offer tailored, phased, and community-based rehabilitation for adults and youth, aiming for holistic, long-term recovery.  Mackenzie Sangrey, Adult Healing to Wellness Coordinator shares on the program.

The Chippewa Cree Tribe Courts Re-Entry Program was discussed with Kris Anne Billy, Re-Entry Coordinator.   The mission is to successfully help former offenders (reentrants) reintegrate back into our tribal community. It’s a reintroduction to society in a respectful and healthy self-sustaining way. Reentry’s purpose is to provide intervention and treatment for reentrants who want to make positive life changes and break the cycle of recidivism. The program generally takes 9 – 12 months to complete. Reentrants progress in phases. The Reentry Program provides access to holistic, structured, and phased treatment and rehabilitation services that are inclusive of our unique culture and traditions. Traditional concepts of justice and healing are incorporated into each offender’s treatment plan. Traditional healing modalities are offered and encouraged, as these practices have proven highly effective in the treatment of alcohol and substance abuse in Native people. 

Today Martha Hardwick, Rocky Boy Health Center Speech-Language Pathologist discusses articulation and phonological disorders. An articulation disorder involves difficulty physically producing specific speech sounds correctly (such as substituting or distorting sounds), while a phonological disorder involves patterns of sound errors where a person simplifies speech in ways that affect entire groups of sounds (such as consistently omitting final consonants). 

The Chippewa Cree Tribe Courts Healing to Wellness for Adults and Juveniles were guests today to talk about the process and outcomes for Healing to Wellness Treatment process for tribal members in Rocky Boy.  Makenzie Sangrey is the Adult Healing to Wellness Coordinator. 

Prevention and Interventions for Speech and Language conditions for children and adults are discussed with Martha Hardwick, Speech Language Pathologist at Rocky Boy Health Center. 

The Chippewa Cree Tribal Court Director, Elinor Nault, and Family Healing To Wellness (HTW) Coordinator, Tina Morales, discuss the phases of HTW, outcomes, duration, and resources for people.Healing to Wellness Courts are special dockets established within the general tribal court criminal or civil process to handle cases involving individuals who have committed offenses resulting from their abuse of alcohol and other drugs.  Triggering offenses could include possession or other nonviolent offenses that have historically tended to be associated with the use of alcohol or other drugs. Alternatively, in a Family Wellness Court setting, a triggering event may be the removal of children from the home due to a substance abuse issue. 

Martha Hardwick discusses how a Stroke effects the brain  and what types of interventions are available.  Other conditions are mentioned such as Aphasia, Dysarthria, Apraxia, and Ischemic attacks.

Martha Hardwick, Speech Language Pathologist, discusses the language conditions Dyspraxia and Apraxia.  Screening, diagnosis and Interventions are discussed.

Dr. Gordon Stanger, Dentist with Rocky Boy Health Center, discusses dental hygiene and how to sustain health.  Dental hygiene is the practice of keeping your mouth, teeth, and gums clean and healthy to prevent problems like cavities, gum disease, bad breath, and tooth loss. 

Joe Lafromboise, Montana Indian Language Program (MILP) Coordinator at Chippewa Cree Cultural Resources Department with the Chippewa Cree Tribe talks about opportunities to learn Ojibwe language. Joe sharing current doings with the program along with the website:  www.cccprd.org.

Today, RBHC PD talks with John Sunchild, Athletic Trainer. Across all levels of competition, sports teams are a huge asset to the community. Team athletics has benefits for people from all walks of life around the world: It’s a great way for people to get together, form strong bonds of friendship and teamwork, and enjoy healthy competition on the field, ice, or court. But to perform at their best — and to support safe, injury-free competition — athletes from students to pros need to be in the right physical condition and have access to immediate, expert care when needed. This is where an athletic trainer, or AT, comes in.Athletic trainers are qualified professionals specializing in sports injury treatment, prevention, and rehabilitation. They are on hand to assist players with direct care following an injury and to support ongoing recovery and rehab as athletes return to sport. In addition, athletic trainers work to promote general wellness and healthy lifestyles for team members and deliver injury prevention programs that help athletes give it their all safely.

The Rocky Boy Health Center Prevention Department focuses on Prevention of Suicide, Prevention of Substance use, and Prevention of commercial tobacco use. This message highlights what we can do to stay connected during the Winter break.

Martha Hardwick, SLP, discusses Aphasia. Aphasia is a language disorder caused by brain damage that affects a person's ability to communicate by interfering with their speech, comprehension, reading, or writing. It can range from mild to severe, depending on the extent of the brain injury, and it affects a person's ability to find the right words, form sentences, or understand others.   Aphasia in Native American communities in "Indian Country" is influenced by factors like higher rates of conditions leading to brain injury, such as stroke, and a complex linguistic landscape that includes both declining indigenous languages and revitalization efforts. Due to a lack of culturally and linguistically appropriate services, there are significant challenges in identifying, assessing, and treating aphasia within these communities, which requires a "decolonizing" approach that acknowledges historical and cultural contexts. 

The Montana REACH Program encourages physical activity, healthy nutrition, and family wellness.  This helps to prevent chronic illness and promotes good health. REACH aims to improve health, prevent chronic diseases, and reduce health disparities among our Tribal populations with the highest risk, or burden, of chronic disease. Such diseases include high blood pressure, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. The program's goal is to make healthy eating and active living more accessible and affordable to priority populations.

The Chippewa Cree Tribe Planner, Neal Rosette, talks about the current situation with the Emergency Food Distribution for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Recipients of Rocky Boy, Montana.

Meagan Geis shares on Occupational Therapy (OT) services available for the community in Rocky Boy.  Meagan discusses helping adults and youth improve their ability to perform everyday activities.

Dr. Clayton Small, N. Cheyenne, has come to Rocky Boy Health Center to provide the "Good Road To Life" program for the days 8-10 July 2025 for the Pre-Apprenticeship students hired at the Rocky Boy Health Center for the Summer.
