Clang Clang Clang, Bang Bang Bang; high percussion in popular music
Iggy Pop once described his initial musical ethos as chasing the sound of ‘Clang Clang Clang, Bang Bang Bang; loud and louder’.Simple, impressive percussive sounds that can be easily mastered. Doom Scroll
Michele Vescio presents a mix performed by Sebastian Calvo, a multidisciplinary artist whose practice sits at the intersection of music, performance, and experimental sound. They've performed at iconic venues and events across Sydney, Melbourne, and New York, and their collaborations span visual art and choreography, with ongoing projects both locally and internationally.Doom Scroll started as a test mix for Sebastian Calvo’s upcoming EP NOĶŒNTROL, made up mostly of their own tracks. The title comes from a track in the mix, inspired by Sebastian’s own habit of doom-scrolling - something they turned into a cathartic sound piece. This mix reflects a mindset shift offering a layered, introspective journey following their own recovery. For more on Sebastian's work, head to Apple Music, Spotify, or Linktree for a full list of releases, projects, and more. Flourish Australia - supports mental health recovery and disability inclusion. SAMSN (Support After Sexual and Domestic Violence) - supports male survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Ya Gotta Be Kinddin': Songs with Tongue Firmly in Cheek
This episode is presented by Madison Moffat of Queering The Air and Trans-creator Radio. This is a selection of recordings where if you listen to them and think 'They have got to be kidding'; then you probably have cottoned on to the general idea. Novelty records, ‘outsider’ music (used particularly in the ‘60s and ‘70s), comedians having a lend, and bona fide musicians doing what it takes to get short-term attention from the media. Bob Dylan Part 1: A new book
Local Melbourne author Chris O'Connor has just released a new book on Bob Dylan called, You Don't Need a Weatherman - Bob Dylan for Beginners (Melbourne Books, 2025).In this episode, guest host John A. Tait and Chris cover some of the themes contained in the book, such as the many voices of Bob Dylan, the storyteller, cover versions of Dylan songs, and Dylan’s own reworkings of his tracks. They also play a selection of Dylan's songs—some classic, some with a few surprises. And no protest songs this time around—John and Chris are saving those for Part 2, later in the year.
