At the end of July the Space Cowboys gathered at The Artisan Hotel in Las Vegas for the 40th birthday of Cowboy managing partner and party-planner extraordinaire, Andrea Lundquist. Birthdays were the overriding theme of the entire weekend as several of our friends (Cindy, Matt and Spoon) were also celebrating another trip around the sun. The Artisan gave us control of the poolside sound system from Friday night to Sunday morning and our DJ friends from DISTRIKT, Deep End, Seismic and Green Gorilla joined the Cowboys on the decks to provide the soundtrack for the weekend. It was a sh*t show of Hunter S. Thompson proportions highlighted by an impromptu synchronized swimming performance, male strippers, a gorgeous custom print for the birthday girl from Finger Lickin' illustrator Jem Panufnik and a 5-hour closing set from our pal, Elite Force. Of course that is only the top line. The rest of what happened in Vegas, as they say, stays in Vegas. ;) The set you're about to hear is a live recording of our own, DJ rrrus, poolside from Saturday afternoon at the Artisan. rrrus was kind enough to stand in for not one, but two, DJs who were apparently indisposed and never made it down to the pool for their sets. :) Enjoy Everyone. "Ghost Ship continues to amaze me how some Burning Man crews can come together and throw an absolutely enormous party that still feels like a community event, not to mention the lights, sound, art, DJs, and everyone in costume.  It feels to me to be the closest thing to BRC in SF.  This year I played with the Pink Mammoth crew in their swanky lair and what a treat it was.  Secluded in a back corner it felt like an underground party within a party.  They did an amazing job with decor and vibe. Holy f***. Ten years of Breakfast of Champions! The most amazing dancing institution of SF. This was my 7th to DJ. An honor, a privilege, and what a motherf***ing blow out! I came to BOC 2010 ready to play the mid-tempo breaky funk, but stepping up to the tables while a Brad Robinson dance floor was in full effect forced more desperate measures. Playing to close is one of my favorite times to play. It gives me a lot of freedom to take a set almost anywhere and send the party people home with my tracks echoing in their ears. Coming out of Shissla, I tried to match his breaks, even trying to give the floor one more kick into the sky before bringing the party back down to the ground. Opening with throbby bangin’ breaks, I then dropped it down a notch into electro and acid house before finally landing in a big chunky funk party.
