The 104th Dawson Creek Exhibition and Stampede runs through Sunday, bringing together producers, ranchers, exhibitors and families for five days of agriculture. The event features livestock shows, agricultural exhibits, trade displays and competitions showcasing the region's farming and ranching roots.

The company has teamed up with Saskatchewan-based Prairie Proud to launch a limited-edition apparel collection. It includes hoodies, T-shirts and hats, with all proceeds going to The Do More Agriculture Foundation to support mental health in agriculture.

For over 40 years, Aggie Days has brought the farm to the city during the Calgary Stampede, and volunteers play a huge role in making it happen. For Heather Mills of Bar HD Farms near De Winton, Alberta, giving back while helping connect the next generation to agriculture and teaching kids where their food comes from is what's important. "We come out to help every year with Aggie Days because I've got young kids and they've really started to get into the whole 4-H, and I think it's really important to teach our youth about agriculture and also being able to give back to the community," says Mills.

The Do More Agriculture Foundation, a national charitable organization championing mental health in agriculture, has a new board Chair. Emma Cross, a pedigreed Hereford cattle producer from Tofield, Alberta, says the foundation is near and dear to my heart because mental health is something that we all have, we all deal with. She says one of their big goals is to reduce the stigma around mental health in agriculture, creating an environment where farmers feel empowered to seek support through workshops, education and community connections

From equipment fires and severe storms to power outages and severe injuries, emergency preparedness is just as important on the farm as seed, feed and fuel. AgSafe Alberta's Jody Wacowich says the best way to prepare for an emergency is to plan and then practice that plan. "You know, what would happen if we had a fire? Who's doing what? Where are they going? Where is everybody safe? " And how are we going to manage that?" says Wacowich, referring to some of the questions farmers should be asking themselves as they build their plan.

Producers looking to get the best return from their precision agriculture equipment may want to keep an eye on research underway at Olds College Centre for Innovation. The SmartAg Applied Research team has partnered with Alberta Grains on the On-Farm Precision Experimentation (OFPE) program, a project designed to help farmers identify the most economical seeding and nitrogen fertilizer rates for wheat and barley under real-world growing conditions. Project Lead Daniel Stefner says the research makes use of equipment producers already own.

The inaugural CDC Newell Ag Summit in June brought together producers, industry, academia, researchers and innovators for a day of collaboration, networking and tours of the renovated and upgraded Crop Diversification Centre near Brooks. County of Newell Reeve Arno Doerksen says they were excited to be able to bring together a diverse group of people.T "This attracted a lot of really good people who have a significant opportunity to make a difference. You know, in in their industry but also to our future here at CDC. A lot of horsepower in the room today, really," said Doerksen. More than 120 attendees participated in the event, introducing newcomers to the capabilities of CDC South while reconnecting industry leaders with its research and development opportunities.

At this year's Calgary Stampede, local seasonal ingredients were on full display at the first-ever Taste of Stampede. The culinary cup pitted chefs from across Alberta against one another in a mouth-watering competition. Errin Massolin is the head chef of The Nash in Calgary's Inglewood neighbourhood. Using local is so important to her. She grew up in High River in a family of farmers. Massolin finished fourth overall in the event.

Canadians overwhelmingly believe the country should maintain control over its food supply, and want Ottawa to stand firm in defending farmers, dairy farmers, and supply management as trade negotiations continue with the United States, according to new polling by Nanos Research. The survey, commissioned by the Dairy Farmers of Canada, found 91 per cent of Canadians say maintaining Canadian control over the food supply is important, while 68 per cent believe the federal government should strongly defend the interests of dairy farmers during CUSMA negotiations.

The Jr Steer Classic at the Calgary Stampede brought together competitors from across Western Canada... One of the participants was Wyatt Elias from Prince George, B.C. Elias says bringing a steer to this show has been on his list for a long time.

Shelby Dutertre from Bonnyville, Alberta, talked her way to a first-place finish in the Senior division of the Youth Agriculture Speaking Championships at the Calgary Stampede on the weekend. Youth had to compete at a regional competition in order to qualify for the finals. Duterte says the win in the finals was a complete surprise.

The BC Agriculture Council is moving forward with plans to establish a provincial Farmland Trust aimed at protecting agricultural land and keeping it in production for future generations. The proposed trust would preserve farmland, support farm succession and help ensure productive land remains available for farming rather than being lost to other uses. The council says the initiative comes as rising land values, affordability challenges and a growing number of farm transitions are making it increasingly difficult for new and next generation farmers to access land.

The federal government is investing more than $4 million to grow demand for Canadian beef around the world. Announced Wednesday at the Calgary Stampede, the investment comes through Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's AgriMarketing Program. Canada Beef will receive $3.7 million to promote Canadian beef and veal through advertising, promotional campaigns and market development activities, while the Canadian Cattle Association (CCA) will receive up to $300,000 to support trade advocacy, strengthen international relationships and advance science-based trade rules. Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Heath MacDonald said the funding is about both protecting existing export markets and creating new opportunities for Canadian producers.
