News: Gas Motorhomes Saved, New RVs Leak, Used RV Prices Rise
The future of gas-powered Class A motorhomes just got a whole lot clearer — and the company stepping in to save the segment probably isn’t one you would have guessed. Plus, while the RV industry continues to struggle overall, one manufacturer just posted its three best sales months ever, used RV values are actually up double digits, and campground owners are fighting back over the credit card fees you pay every time you book a campsite. And Hershey is less than a month away, where we’re expecting a radically different new travel trailer from Forest River — and it looks like the show may have accidentally revealed a brand-new Brinkley fifth wheel before Brinkley did. 421. Is Summer Camping Losing Its Appeal? Fall RV Travel Is Surging
Is the traditional summer camping season starting to shift? New travel data shows growing interest in September and October trips as travelers look to escape extreme summer heat, peak-season crowds, and higher prices. In this episode, we dig into why fall and shoulder-season camping may be becoming a bigger part of the RV travel calendar — and what that could mean for campgrounds that traditionally close their gates in October. Plus, we follow up on the FCC's new rules affecting foreign-made connected inverters and what they could mean for RV solar, batteries, portable power stations, and other connected power equipment. We also debate campgrounds charging separately for electricity, share the wild story of a hiker who walked 10 miles after being impaled by a trekking pole, and look at an incredibly detailed experiment showing what really happens inside your RV black tank when you use the flush system. All that and more on this week's RV Miles Podcast. News: FCC Targets RV Power Inverters, Battle Born Buys Competitor & Big Ram Truck Changes
The federal government has declared foreign-made power inverters a national security threat — and the new restrictions could eventually affect some of the biggest names in RV solar and portable power. Plus, Battle Born’s parent company has purchased competitor Dakota Lithium at a pretty interesting moment for the brand. Ram is making some major changes to its trucks, including more payload for the 2500 and the end of automatic stop/start on the Hemi. We’ve also got an RV toilet conversion that lets you basically abandon your black tank, an all-electric furnace that can run through your existing ductwork, and one of the old-school satellite internet companies that RVers used before Starlink has filed for bankruptcy. And somehow, none of that is the craziest story this week — because a Montana hiker impaled himself completely through the torso with a trekking pole…and then hiked ten miles out of the mountains with the pole still sticking out of him. NEWS: Campers Airlifted, RV Sales Slide, and Hotels Move Into Camping
This week, catastrophic flooding in Missouri forced hundreds of campers to be rescued, including more than 200 young campers and counselors airlifted out by Black Hawk helicopters after the Black River rose to record levels in the middle of the night. We’ve also got a scary rockfall incident on Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park, gas prices ticking back up, and new RV sales continuing their long slide. Plus, campground planning tools are seeing record traffic, KOA has been named one of the most profitable franchise brands in the country, and major hotel companies are moving even deeper into glamping and outdoor hospitality. Camping may still be about getting outside, but more than ever, it’s also big business — and sometimes, a serious safety story. 403. Spring RV Prep: De-Winterizing Tips Beyond the Water System
In episode 403 of the RV Miles podcast, Jason and Abby share spring RV prep tips that go beyond flushing the water system, including doing a nearby campground “spring shakedown” to wash the rig, check seals, test smoke detectors, and more. Abby explains RV Miles’ rebranded, curated newsletter now publishing four times a week (podcast, news, national parks, and a weekend “Road Signs” edition) and, in the tank segment, they discuss a planned 2,300-site RV park near Abilene, a cougar under an RV in British Columbia, Abby’s bread-baking mishaps, and a recommendation to read Project Hail Mary before seeing the movie. Thor Industries — the world’s largest RV manufacturer — just announced a major corporate restructuring, grouping brands like Jayco, Tiffin, Keystone, Dutchmen, and others under new leadership structures. 399. RV Owners Rate Their RVs, And Can You Tow a Real Trailer with an EV? Bowlus Says Yes
This week we dig into a viral RVTravel.com poll asking: How well built is your RV? The results surprised us—and they raise a bigger question: if so many RVers say their rigs are “well built,” why does the industry’s quality reputation feel so rough… and why can’t buyers easily choose truly better-built options? Then we’re joined by Geneva Long, founder and CEO of Bowlus to talk about reviving a nearly-forgotten 1930s aviation-inspired aluminum travel trailer and turning it into one of the most interesting luxury RV brands on the road today. We get into what “built like an airplane” really means, why lightweight doesn’t have to mean flimsy, and why Bowlus may be uniquely positioned for the future of EV towing. Plus: Abby’s “black tank” story about everyday kindness (and a parking lot door ding), and Jason’s take on the way people talk about travel safety in Mexico—especially Baja. *Support independent RV journalism and unlock great perks by becoming a Mile Marker 👉 https://rvmiles.com/milemarkers *Get your FREE weekly Road Signs Newsletter at https://rvmiles.com/mailinglist/ Vote for us as the People’s Choice for Best Podcast at the 2026 Outdoor Media Summit Awards: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/18EbvKNRa8/?mibextid=wwXIfr Support our Sponsors: *Check out all Blue Ox has to offer at https://BlueOx.com *Find all the RV parts and gear you need at etrailer: https://www.etrailer.com/vehicle-finder.aspx?etam=p0001 *Get 30% off your next RV Mattress at https://rvmattress.com/rvmiles with code RVMILES at checkout! *Find Liquified at https://liquifiedrv.com/ 00:00 Intro 00:31 Poll RV Build Quality 07:56 Sponsors 09:29 Bowlus Interview 10:27 Bolus Origin Story 18:00 EV Towing Future 22:38 Pricing and Ideal Buyer 23:59 Direct Sales and Growth 29:30 Mexico Travel Safety 36:07 Outdoorsy Event Boom 38:11 Parking Lot Door Ding 44:31 Book Club Pick 47:29 Episode Wrap Up

In episode 398 of the RV Miles podcast, we cover Alliance RV’s acquisition of Midwest Automotive Designs, marking Alliance’s first move into motorized RVs with Sprinter-based Class B luxury vans.
