After the success of their national touring hit The Last Proxy, Tony Nikolakopoulos and George Kapiniaris reunite with co-writer Sally Faraday to present this tender, funny and deeply relatable new Australian play. Filled with humour, nostalgia and emotional depth, The Life of Byron follows Byron (not Brian), a middle-aged man in the throes of a mid-life crisis. As he confronts a life-changing decision about his ageing mother, who is in the early stages of dementia, he is forced to revisit the moments, memories and relationships that shaped him. Sorting through his childhood “glory box,” Byron unlocks a flood of memories. From boyhood dreams and teenage rebellion to love, marriage, loss and identity, each moment builds a portrait of a man trying to make sense of his life. Accompanied by a vibrant soundtrack, the story moves through time with warmth and honesty, revealing the profound influence of the most important woman in his life, his mother. At its heart, The Life of Byron is a story about family, culture and growing up, no matter how late in life that may come.
