Situated at the borders between syncopated rhythms and intricate sound structures, these tracks were produced within a short period of time during Summer 2025. The lyrics on the track „Boule“, and especially „Gráve“, refer to "The Fall" by Albert Camus, whose reading has stimulated A_Phan in many ways. Falling and decay, sin and innocence are the motifs that have inspired him and that he has explored deeper in the production process. Their 2022 album Sent From My Telephone sometimes felt less like music than neural entertainment: a gargantuan sketchbook, nearly four and a half hours long, blending spoken-word poetry, distorted samples, and noirish drones. That epic transmission confirmed Voice Actor as one of the most mysterious acts on Belgian’s outsider-music label Stroom led by Ziggy Devriendt aka Nosedrip. In January 2025 Noa Kurzweil aka VOICE ACTOR released Lust (1) together with obscure Welsh producer Squu – an album which gracefully alternates between sensual ambient with soft gestures of two-step /garage and downbeat/dub. Though more compact than her debut, the new album’s hazy blend of blown-out ambient and indecipherable murmurs taps into a similarly delirious dream state. Even in its vaguest and most abstract moments, Lust (1) possesses sharp expressive powers. It mimics that state of good sex when thresholds explode and all logic flushes out. The two artists worked in a shared folder in their home studios in Berlin and Vienna without ever meeting or making explanatory phone calls. Each musician brought in his own elements, samples, sound designs and production techniques in order to play in new parts using the ping-pong process, to arrange them or to change the material of the predecessor through manipulation and processing. The sound generation and the sound design took place via analog / digital modular synthesizers as well as in the laptop or via conventional miking of acoustic instruments (percussion). The entire EP is supported by a sense of cooperation and innovative ways not to lose common creativity to isolation, even when contact is prohibited. The basis of all tracks consists of extractions from field recordings. The ambiences and original notes obtained in this way (mainly from Vienna and Berlin - A / B) were not only processed with effects, but also used via MIDI programming to output beat, melody or harmony. As a result, the recordings fit more organically into the track structure and are supported by the arrangement of those elements that are more familiar to the hearing of the recipients. Since 15 years or more Karl Knall, formerly known as A Nurse Called Mike is a very active mainstay within the viennese music scene: Nowadays as part of the Transformer community, a constant supporter of Tape/DIY Culture and organizer of countless parties like the legendary Future Echo nights. dj dérive provides an exclusive contribution to our mix series conjuring an imaginary rave in the woods, somewhere around Frankfurt, sometime around the mid 90ies. Influenced by the lust for transcendental imperatives of that time (open up your mind!) the mix provides an elegant journey to a moment before Trance in Germany became fully commodified. Full of bleeps, synthesised wobbles and a good portion of kitsch (you are a child of the universe!) the mix should not be mistaken as a nostalgic longing per se, but rather as a sonic time-capsule which tries to express an optimistic counterpoint to the ravelled months of March/April 2020. The sound of Frankfurt based labels such as Cyclotron, Fax +49-69/450464, Ongaku Musik or Eye Q Records offer an ongoing support of positive vibes, which she wants to share with us. The area around Frankfurt is not unknown to dj dérive, who grew up in Kassel and spent some time in the former capital of electronic music.
